Background: Blunt chest trauma accounts for 90% of all chest traumas in Europe and the United States and this causes 20% of all trauma-related deaths. The major cause of morbidity and mortality after blunt chest trauma is undetected injuries. For this reason, chest computerized tomography has gained popularity for the evaluation of trauma, but it is expensive and it exposes patients to radiation. This study identified the clinical features associated with the diagnosic information obtained on a CT chest scan, as compared with a standard chest X-ray, for patients who sustained blunt trauma to the chest. This study also evaluated the role of a routine computed tomographic (CT) scan for these patients. The patients who had chest computed tomography done after the initial chest x-ray were analyzed separately for the presence of occult injuries. Material and Method: We studied 100 consecutive patients from November 2006 to July 2007: 74 patients after motor vehicle crashes and 26 patients after a fall from a height >2m. Simultaneous with the initial clinical evaluation, an anteroposterior chest radiograph and a helical chest CT scan were obtained for all the patients. The data extracted from the medical record included the vital signs, the interventions and the type and severity of injury (RTS). Result: Among the 100 cases, 79 patients showed at least more than one pathologic sign on their chest radiograph, and 21 patients had a normal chest radiograph. For 17 of the patients who had a normal chest X ray, the CT scan showed multiple injuries, which were pneumothorax, hemothorax, lung contusion, sternal fracture etc. This represents that a CT scan is statistically superior to a chest radiograph to diagnose the pathologic signs. But on the other hand, as for treatment, only 31 patients were diagnosed by CT scan and they were treated with chest tube insertion ect. 42 patients needed ony conservative management without invasive thoracosurgical treatment such as chest tube insertion or open thoracotomy. 27 patients were treated based on the diagnosis made by the chest radiograph and physical examination. Conclusion: Chest computerized tomography was significantly more effective than routine chest X-ray for detecting lung contusion, pneumothorax and mediastinal hematoma, as well as fractured ribs, scapula and, sternum. Although the occult findings increased, the number of patients who needed treatment was small. Therefore, we suggest making selective use of a CT scan to avoid its overuse in ERs.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to determine proper position and angulation of an implant for immediate implantation. Materials and Method : From the years 1997 to 2000. 52 Denta $scan^R$ views, 22 upper and 32 lower jaw with an average age of 43 and 40 respectively, were investigated, which comprise intact upper and lower 6 anterior teeth and premolars. On the Denta $scan^R$, the optimal placement for the immediated implantation was simulated. The measuring methods included 1) Angulation difference between tooth long axis and alveolar bone process. 2) Angulation difference of long axis between tooth and installing fixture 3) Distance between center of tooth at cervical area and center of fixture. 4) Distance from root apex to the bone limit of vital structure. One sample t-test was used for statistical analysis. Result : The results were as follows. 1) At the maxillary central incisor and lateral incisor, angulation difference of long axis between tooth and installing fixture was respectively 0.5 and 3.2 degrees with the fixture center's palatally positioned 2mm apart from tooth center. 2) At the lower anterior 6 teeth, that was about $-2.8^{\circ}\;to\;-4.6^{\circ}$ with the fixture center's lingually positioned 1mm apart from tooth center. 3) At the maxillary canine and premolar, that was respectively $11.8^{\circ}\;and \;7.2^{\circ}$ with the fixture center palatally positioned $2\sim2.4mm$ apart from tooth center. 4) At the lower premolar area, that was about $0^{\circ}\;to\;2^{\circ}$ with the fixture center's lingually positioned $0.5{\sim}1mm$ apart from tooth center. 5) Distance from root apex to the bone limit of vital structure, at the maxillary anterior and premolars. was the range of 10 to 12mm, and at the mandibular anterior teeth and the 1st premolar, that was the range of 18 to 20mm. Conclusion : The proper implant position of maxillary anterior and premolar teeth is as paralleled as or more buccally angulated than long axis of tooth with the fixture center's palatally positioned. In mandiblular anterior region, long axis of implants is lingully angulated compared with long axis of tooth and in premolar, almost parelleled with long axis of tooth and alveolar process.

The study planned to testify the accuracy of the 3D scanner through analyzing the human body measurement method and the evaluation of flare skirt with 3D scanner. The results obtained from this study were as follows; First, the results of measurement for the dress form and human body by 3D scanner were more accurate than one or two dimensional measurement method. Second, from the results of the scan for the flare skirts as worn the human body, we could obtain very accurate horizontal section map. Third, in the clothing ergonomics viewpoint, the accuracy of the 3D scanner was very excellent and its utility was higher than that of the moir photography method. Therefore, the 3D scanner is very useful for the human body measurement and the wearing evaluation. In a nutshell, this study illustrates that we have to develop a program of automatic human body measurement system which will enhance the application of the 3D scanner.
An accurate non-model-based method for delamination identification of laminated composite plates is proposed in this work. A weighted mode shape damage index is formulated using squared weighted difference between a measured mode shape of a composite plate with delamination and one from a polynomial that fits the measured mode shape of the composite plate with a proper order. Weighted mode shape damage indices associated with at least two measured mode shapes of the same mode are synthesized to formulate a synthetic mode shape damage index to exclude some false positive identification results due to measurement noise and error. An auxiliary mode shape damage index is proposed to further assist delamination identification, by which some false negative identification results can be excluded and edges of a delamination area can be accurately and completely identified. Both numerical and experimental examples are presented to investigate effectiveness of the proposed method, and it is shown that edges of a delamination area in composite plates can be accurately and completely identified when measured mode shapes are contaminated by measurement noise and error. In the experimental example, identification results of a composite plate with delamination from the proposed method are validated by its C-scan image.
Purpose : Information about electrical activity inside the brain during fMRl scans is very useful in monitoring physiological function of the patient or locating the spatial position of the activated region in the brain. However, many additional noises appear in the EEG signal acquired during the MRI scan. Gradient induced noise is the biggest one among the noises. In this work, we propose a gradient noise reduction method using the independent component analysis (ICA) method. Materials and Methods : We used a 29-channel MR-compatible EEG measurement system and a 3.0 Tesla MRI system. We measured EEG signals on a subject lying inside the magnet during EPI scans. We selectively removed the gradient noise from the measured EEG signal using the ICA method. We compared the results with the ones obtained with conventional averaging method and PCA method. Results : All the noise reduction methods including the averaging and PCA methods were effective in removing the noise in some extent. However, the proposed ICA method was found to be superior to the other methods. Conclusion : Gradient noise in EEG signals acquired during fMRI scans can be effectively reduced by the ICA method. The noise-reduced EEG signal can be used in fMRI studies of epileptic patients or combinatory studies of fMRI and EEG.

Purpose: Currently, decrement revision using LDCT is used in PET/CT. But cold artifacts are often found in decrement revision image by mismatch between LDCT image and Emission image near diaphragm due to patient's respiration. This research studied reduction of cold artifact by patient's respiration using CTAC Shift among revision methods. Materials and Methods: From March to September in 2012, 30 patients who had cold artifacts by respiration were targeted using PET/CT Discovery 600 (GE Healthcare, MI, USA) equipment. Patients with cold artifacts were additionally scan in diaphragm area, and the image shown cold artifacts at whole body test were revised using CTAC Shift. Cold artifacts including image, additional scan image and CTAC Shift revision image were evaluated as 1~5 points with naked eye by one nuclear medicine expert, 4 radiotechnologists with over 5 year experience. Also, standard uptake value of 3 images was compared using paired t-test. Results: Additional scan image and CTAC Shift revision image received relatively higher score in naked eye evaluation than cold artifacts including image. The additional scan image and CTAC Shift revision image had high correlation as the results of ANOVA test of standard uptake value and did not show significant difference. Conclusion: When cold artifacts are appeared by patient's respiration at PET/CT, it causes not only patient inconvenience but troubles in test schedule due to extra radiation exposure and time consumption by additional scan. But if CTAC Shift revision image can be acquired with out additional scan, it is considered to be helped in exact diagnosis without unnecessary extra radiation exposure and additional scan.

The crystal structure of byakangelicin, one of furanocoumarin aldose reductase inhibitors, was determined by X-ray diffraction method. The crystal is triclinic, with a=8.114(1), b=10.194(1), $c=11.428(1)\AA,{\;}{\alpha}=111.50(1),{\}{\beta}=95.57(1),{\}{\gamma}=112.52(1)^{circ},{\;}D_x=1.41,{\;}D_m=1.39{\;}g/cm^3$, space group P1 and Z=2. The intensity data were collected by ${\omega}-2{\theta}$ scan method with $CuK_{a}$ radiations. The structure was solved by direct method and refined by full matrix least-squares procedure to the final R-value of 0.056. There are two molecules with different conformations in an asymmetric unit. The molecules are kept by two intermolecular O-HO type hydrogen bonds and van der Waal's forces in the crystal. The absolute configuration of the molecules was estimated to S-form by the 'Eta refinement' procedure.

Thermal fatigue is one of the life-limiting damage mechanisms in the nuclear power plant conditions. The turbulent mixing of fluids of different temperatures induces rapid temperature changes to the pipe wall. The successive thermal transients cause varying cyclic thermal stresses. These cyclic thermal stresses cause fatigue crack nucleation and growth similar to the cyclic mechanical stresses. The aim of this study was to fulfil the need by developing an real crack manufacturing method, which would produce realistic cracks. The test material was austenitic STS 304, which is used as pipelines in the reactor coolant system of a nuclear power plants. In order to fabricate thermal fatigue crack similar to realistic crack, successive thermal transients were applied to the specimen. Thermal transient cycles were combined with heating (60sec) and cooling cycle (30sec). And, In order to identify ultrasonic characteristic, it was performed the ultrasonic reflection measuring method for the fabricated specimen. From the results of ultrasonic reflection measuring testing, it was conformed that A-scan results(average 83% of real crack depth) for the TFC reference specimen was more enhanced NDT reliability than results(average 38% of real crack depth) for the EDM notch reference specimen.
This paper considers a method of fast correspondence matching for iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm. In robotics, the ICP algorithm and its variants have been widely used for pose estimation by finding the translation and rotation that best align two point clouds. In computational perspectives, the main difficulty is to find the correspondence point on the reference point cloud to each observed point. Jump-table-based correspondence matching is one of the methods for reducing computation time. This paper proposes a method that corrects errors in an existing jump-table-based correspondence matching algorithm. The criterion activating the use of jump-table is modified so that the correspondence matching can be applied to the situations, such as point-cloud registration problems with highly curved surfaces, for which the existing correspondence-matching method is non-applicable. For demonstration, both hardware and simulation experiments are performed. In a hardware experiment using Hokuyo-10LX LiDAR sensor, our new algorithm shows 100% correspondence matching accuracy and 88% decrease in computation time. Using the F1TENTH simulator, the proposed algorithm is tested for an autonomous driving scenario with 2D range-bearing point cloud data and also shows 100% correspondence matching accuracy.

This paper proposes an approach to generate tool-path for laser pattern machining. Considering the mechanical structure of a laser pattern machine, it is quite similar to that of a 2D milling machine. Based on the observation, one may try to utilize the tool-path generation methodologies of 2D milling for the laser pattern machining. However, it is not possible to generate tool-path without considering the technological requirements of laser pattern machining which are different from those of 2D milling. In this paper, we identify the technological requirement of laser pattern machining, and propose a proper tool-path generation methodology to satisfy the technological requirements. For the efficient generation of tool-path, this paper proposes a tool-path element computation method, which is based on the concept of a monotone chain.
