Patients with cleft lip and palate require interdisciplinary treatment to achieve successful rehabilitation. However, there are special difficulties in orthodontic treatment of adult cleft lip and palate patients: 1. Lack of Tissue, Bone, and Soft tissue; 2. Heavy Scar Tissue, Vestibule, and Palate; 3. Severe Anteroposterior discrepancy and Impaired Maxilla; 4. Distortion of Alveolar Ridge; 5. Abnormal Eruption Path and Malalignment of Tooth. Solving these problems, orthodontist should have differential diagnosis on extent of cleft site and residual deformities of adult cleft lip and palate patient. The tooth missing area in cleft site was commonly treated with a removable or fixed prosthesis, but this method is not stable to retain maxillary arch shape. To establish the more stable arch shape in cleft lip and palate, endosseous implants in the alveolar clefts with bone graft is helpful for management of adult cleft lip and palate patient.
In order to define about concern with discharge and water-quality, it is calculated drought flow, low flow, normal flow and wet flow in Chungju watershed from flow duration analysis. Water quality modeling study is performed for forecasting at upstream of Chungju lake. It is devided method of modeling into before and after the equipment of environmental treatment institution. And it is estimated the change of water quality. Before the equipment of environmental treatment, BOD concentration is increased from 23000 to 2006 years at all site and decrease on 2012 years. The rate of increasing BOD concentration is showed height between 2000 years and 2003 years most of all site. And after the equipment of environmental treatment, it is showed first grade of BOD water quality in most of sample site beside Jucheon river. The result of water quality modeling using drought flow showed that a lot of pollution occurred. And water quality using wet flow is good, so much discharge make more improve water quality than little discharge.
Concentrations of the principal volatile organic compounds, such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, m,p,o-xylene, styrene, and chlorobenzene were measured at the solid waste treatment plants classified into four categories; municipal waste incinerator, municipal waste landfill site, industrial waste incinerator and industrial waste landfill site. The average concentration of VOCs in industrial waste treatment facilities was 33.43 ppb and was significantly higher than that measured at municipal waste treatment facilities (4.71 ppb). The average toluene concentrations measured at incinerators (13.05 ppb) were a little higher than those measured at landfill sites (11.54 ppb). The contribution of the waste treatment facilities to the concentration of benzene (0.35 ppb) and o-xylene (0.15 ppb) in the industrial area was relatively small. However, toluene measured in the industrial waste treatment facilities was the most abundant VOCs with the average concentration of 21.37 ppb. As a result of analyses of fingerprint, in cases of IISH and ILUS, a variety of compounds other than major VOCs were detected in high level. On the Pearson correlation analysis, the correlation was generally positive and some pairs of these VOCs were very strongly correlated (correlation coefficient > 0.75).
The monitoring system for maintaining on-site wastewater treatment plants(Biofilter) was developed. Proposed system applied PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) technique. In process of development, the research against the monitoring parameters which will be able to represent condition and operation of the plants was accomplished. These parameters are ORP(Oxidation-Reduction Potential), Water Level, Pump and Power on/off. Also, to measure, collect, transfer and display these parameters, DMU(Data Measurement Unit), MCU(Main Controller Unit) and Display Board were produced.
Mercury-induced changes in Chl a fluorescence induction kinetics of scratched barley leaf segments were dependent on the presence of light. By the treatment of 50$\mu$M HgCl2 under light condition, Fm and Fp were decreased. However, they were not significantly reduced under dark condition even after 2 h of mercury treatment. Under dark condition the decrease in variable fluorescence (Fv) after P transient was blocked within 20 min of the treatment. The analysis of fast fluorescence rise curve suggests that the inhibitory site of mercury under both light and dark conditions is not at QB binding site and the inhibition does not involve the increase in inactive PSII centers. Under light condition the decrease in Fp was partially recovered by addition of 50 $\mu$M NH2OH. These results suggest that a major inhibitory site of mercury under dark condition is at the reducing side of PSII and the site under light condition is at the oxidizing side of PSII possibly in addition to the one under dark condition. Under both light and dark conditions, energy-dependent quenching(qE) was alomost completely repressed within 20 min of mercury treatment and noticible change in Fo was not observed. The qE repression is probably due to the blockage of transthylakoid ΔpH formation.
Entrapped media with cellulous triacetate in which activated sludge was applied to induce operating factors and sewage treatment on site. The results are summarized as follows; The treatment efficiency of entrapped media is 92%, 90% and 80% at the size of 5mm, 7mm, and 12mm, respectively. Also, treatment efficient rate was increased by the packed amount of media in less than 30 % packed, while in more than 40 % packed that was decreased. It takes 10 day to reach the steady states and it is less than the existing activated sludge method. The slopes of oxygen consumption rate are almost parallel both in the entrapped media and free sludge. When organic loading rate is less than 1.0 kg/m$^3$ㆍd on site, it is achieved good removal rate independent of changes of loading rate.
On-site sanitation systems are typically installed to treat grey and toilet wastewaters in areas without sewer and centralized treatment systems. It is well known that, due to inappropriate design and operation, treatment performance of these systems in developing countries is not satisfactory in the removal of pathogens and organic matters. This research aimed to investigate the hydraulic conditions occurring in some on-site sanitation systems and the effects of hydraulic retention times (HRTs) on the system performance. The experiments were conducted with a laboratory-scale septic tank (40L in size) and an actual septic tank (600L in size), to test the hydraulic conditions by using tracer study with HRTs varying at 12, 24 and 48 hr. The experimental results showed the dispersion numbers to be in the range of 0.017-0.320 and the short-circuit ratios in the range of 0.014-0.031, indicating the reactors having a high level of sort-circuiting and approaching complete-mix conditions. The removal efficiency of $BOD_5$ was found to be 67% and the $k_{30}$ values for $BOD_5$ was $2.04day^{-1}$. A modified complete-mix model based on the relationship between $BOD_5$ removal efficiencies and HRTs was developed and validated with actual-scale septic tank data having a correlation coefficient ($R^2$) of 0.90. Therefore, to better protect our environment and minimizing health risks, new generation toilets should be developed that could minimize short-circuiting and improving treatment performance.
This study was conducted to use disused vinyl as biofilm for biological sewage treatment. Efficiency verification was performed on laboratory and on-site plant. In laboratory study, total biochemical oxygen demand(TBOD) removal rate was ranged 94.8~97 % in each hydraulic retention tim(HRT), 12, 16, 20, 24 hr, respectively. At that time, filling rate was 50 %. And effluent TBOD concentration was low ranged 3.64~6.28 mg/L. In on-site plant, TBOD removal rate was ranged 88.2~96.8 % and effluent TBOD concentration was 4.8~17.7mg/L. This concentration was lower than disign effluent concentration, 30mg/L. Total kjeldhal nitrogen(TKN) removal efficiency was ranged 56.8~90.9%. This was resulted higher than Lab. scale treatment efficiency.
Supraclavicular lymph node (SCLN) flap is a common donor site for vascularized lymph node transfer for the treatment of lymphedema. Chyle leakage is a rare but serious complication after harvesting SCLN flap in the neck. We report a case of chyle leakage at the SCLN donor site and its successful management. A 52-year-old woman underwent SCLN transfer for treatment of lower extremity lymphedema. After starting a regular diet and wheelchair ambulation on the 3rd postoperative day, the amount of drainage at the donor site increased (8-62 mL/day) with the color becoming milky, which suggested a chyle leak. Despite starting a low-fat diet on the 4th postoperative day, the chyle leakage persisted (70 mL/day). The patient was started on fat-free diet on the 5th postoperative day. The amount of drainage started to decrease and the drain color became more clear within 24 hours. The drainage amount remained less than 10 mL/day from the 8th postoperative day, and we removed the drain on the 12th postoperative day. There was no seroma or other wound complications at follow-up 4 weeks after the operation. The current case demonstrates that a fat-free diet can be a first-line treatment for low output chyle leakage after a SCLN flap.
To ensure the safety of underground infrastructures, ground can sometimes be first treated by cement slurry and then stabilized using artificial ground freezing (AGF) technique before excavation. The hydration heat produced by cement slurry increases the soil temperature before freezing and results in an extension of the active freezing time (AFT), especially when the Metro Jet System (MJS) treatment is adopted due to a high cement-soil ratio. In this paper, by taking advantage of an on-going project, a case study was performed to evaluate the influence of MJS and AGF on the ground temperature variation through on-site measurement and numerical simulation. Both on-site measurement and simulation results reveal that MJS resulted in a significant increase in the soil temperature after treatment. The ground temperature gradually decreases and then stabilized after completion of MJS. The initiation of AGF resulted in a quick decrease in ground temperature. The ground temperature then slowly decreased and stabilized at later freezing. A slight difference in ground temperature exists between the on-site measurements and simulation results due to limitations of numerical simulation. For the AGF system, numerical simulation is still strongly recommended because it is proven to be cost-effective for predicting the ground temperature variation with reasonable accuracy.
