  • This study investigates the effect of MnO2 and CuO as acceptor additives on the microstructure and piezoelectric properties of $0.96(K_{0.5}Na_{0.5})_{0.95}Li_{0.05}Nb_{0.93}Sb_{0.07}O_3-0.04BaZrO_3$, which has a rhombohedral-tetragonal phase boundary composition. $MnO_2$ and CuO-added $0.96(K_{0.5}Na_{0.5})_{0.95}Li_{0.05}Nb_{0.93}Sb_{0.07}O_3-0.04BaZrO_3$ ceramics sintered at a relatively low temperature of $1020^{\circ}C$ show a pure perovskite phase with no secondary phase. As the addition of $MnO_2$ and CuO increases, the sintered density and grain size of the resulting ceramics increases. Due to the difference in the amount of oxygen vacancies produced by B-site substitution, Cu ion doping is more effective for uniform grain growth than Mn ion doping. The formation of oxygen vacancies due to B-site substitution of Cu or Mn ions results in a hardening effect via ferroelectric domain pinning, leading to a reduction in the piezoelectric charge coefficient and improvement of the mechanical quality factor. For the same amount of additive, the addition of CuO is more advantageous for obtaining a high mechanical quality factor than the addition of $MnO_2$.

  • Many companies have implemented ERP systems to enhance their process competitiveness. Since most ERP systems down to date are implemented and managed on each separated business-unit or company level, such systems run short of the consideration about global business processes and global system managements. In order to integrate a successful global ERP, it is essential to apply the well-systematic implementation methodology which considers global standardization and global IT requirements. It is, however, the actual circumstance that such well-structured methodologies for global ERP implementation are hardly shown not only from domestic site but from foreign one. This paper indicates the global ERP implementation guideline with integrated approach including; the standard process design for efficient execution of global business; the ERP implementation method considering global IT requirements; and, the management method for global system operation. GSI ERP methodology is composed of 3 Phase:Global Strategy Planning, Global Template Construction and Global Roll-Out. Phase1; Global Strategy Planning contains Environment Analysis, GSI direction and Implementation Plan. Phase2; Global Template Construction contains Business blueprint, GSI operation design and Global template implementation. Phase3; Global Roll-out contains local business analysis, local ERP implementation and Global ERP Operation.

  • BaO layers were formed on the Si(100) surface by thermal evaporation of barium metal with simultaneous oxidation. The atomic structure of BaO layers at the initial stage of the deposition was investigated by the scattering intensity variation of $He^+$ions on time-of-flight (TOF) impact-collision ion scattering (ICISS). The results show that several number of BaO layers are formed on the Si(100) surface with the lattice parameter of bulk phase, and the occupation of oxygen atoms of the BaO layers is on-top site of silicon atoms.

  • In this study, we evaluated effect of particle size on arsenic solid-state speciation and bioaccessibility in soils highly contaminated with arsenic from smelting and mining. Soils were partitioned into six particle size fractions ($2000-500{\mu}m$, $500-250{\mu}m$, $250-150{\mu}m$, $150-75{\mu}m$, $75-38{\mu}m$, <$38{\mu}m$), and arsenic solid-state speciation and bioaccessibility were characterized in each particle size fraction. Arsenic solid-state speciation was characterized via sequential extraction and XRD analysis, and arsenic bioaccessibility was evaluated by SBRC (Solubility Bioaccessibility Research Consortium) method. In smelter site soil, arsenic was mainly present as arsenic bound to amorphous iron oxides. Fine particle size fractions showed higher arsenic concentration, but lower arsenic bioaccessibility. On the other hand, arsenic in mine site soil showed highest concentration in largest particle size fraction ($2000-500{\mu}m$), while higher bioaccessibility was observed in smaller particle size fractions. Arsenic in mine site soil was mainly present as arsenolite ($As_2O_3$) phase, which seemed to affect the distribution of arsenic and arsenic bioaccessibility in different particle size fractions of the mine soil.

  • This paper summarizes the results of a two-year-long research project conducted by the CTBUH on the life cycle assessment (LCA) of tall building structural systems. The research project was made possible thanks to a $300,000 contribution from ArcelorMittal and the support of some of the most important structural engineering firms and players in the tall building industry. The research analyzed all life phases of a tall building's structural system: the extraction and production of its materials, transportation to the site, construction operations, final demolition of the building, and the end-of-life of the materials. The impact of the building structure during the operational phase (i.e., impact on daily energy consumption, maintenance, and suitability to changes) was also investigated, but no significant impacts were identified during this phase.

  • In this paper a numerical study was performed for the effect of the wall curvature on the behaviors of fuel sprays impinging on the concave Surface. Actually, in the real diesel engines, a piston head has a curved shape for the purpose of the controlling the movement of fuel droplets and the mixture formation. For past decades, although many experimental and numerical works had been performed on the spray/wall impingement phenomena, the curvature effect of impinged wall was rarely investigated. The wall curvature affects on the behaviors of the secondary droplets generated by impingement and the concave wall obstructs the droplets to advance from the impinging site to outward. In present study, the simulation code was validated for the flat surface case and three cases of the different curvature were calculated and compared with the flat surface case for several parameters, such as the spray radius, the spray height and the position of vortex center of gas phase. The simulation results showed that the radial advance of the wall spray and the vortex is decreased with increasing the curvature. It was concluded that the curvature of the impinged wall significantly affects the behaviors of both the gas-phase and the droplet-phase.

  • Well-defined surfaces of single-crystalline solid materials are starting points of self-organizationof nanostructures and chemical reactions controlled in nanoscale. Although highly ordered atomicarrangement can be obtained on semiconductor surfaces, they can be maintained only in vacuumand not in air or in aqueous environment. Since single-crystalline metal oxide surfaces arechemically stable and no further oxidation occurs, their atomic structures can be utilized fornanofabrication in liquid processes, nanoelectrochemistry and nanobiotechnology. Sapphire is oneof the most stable metal oxides and its crystalline quality is excellent, as can be applied to electronicdevices that require ultralow defect densities. We recently found that chemical phase separationoccurs on sapphire surfaces by annealing processes and the formed nanodomains exhibit specificproperties in air and in water [1,2]. In our experiments, highly selective and controllable adsorptionof various protein molecules is observed on the phase-separated surfaces though the materials andcrystallographic orientations are identical [3,4]. Planar lipid bilayers supported on thephase-separated sapphire surface also exhibit a specific formation site selectivity [5]. Chemicalnanodomains appear on other metal-oxide surfaces, such as well-ordered titania surfaces. Wedemonstrate that surface chemistry of the nanodomains can be characterized in aqueousenvironment using atomic force microscopy equipped with colloidal tips and then show adsorptionand desorption behaviors of various proteins on the phase-separated surfaces.

  • Objectives: To validate usefulness of the three phase bone scan for the diagnosis of osteomyelitis in the diabetic foot with soft tissue inflammation. Materials and Methods: Fourteen diabetic feet with soft tissue inflammation were included in this study. We took the bone biopsy from the site of hot uptake on the three phase bone scan but no abnormal findings on the plain radiographs. We observed whether the bone has evidence of osteomyelitis on the patholgic findings such as inflammatory cell infiltration within bone, dead bone, new bone formation and fibrosis. Results: Thirteen of fourteen cases (92.8%) were compatible with osteomyelitis on the pathologic criteria. Inflammatory cell infiltration within bone was observed in thirteen cases, dead bone in twelve cases. new bone formation in four cases. fibrosis in eight cases. All of the four findings were observed in three cases. Conclusion: In the diabetic foot with soft tissue inflammation, the osteomyelitis should be included in differential diagnosis if the lesion reveals increased uptake on three phase bone scan, even though the lesion does not show any abnormal findings on the plain radiographs.
