  • On-line reorganization in a shared nothing database cluster is crucial to the performance of the database system in a dynamic environment like WWW where the number of users grows rapidly and changing access patterns may exhibit high skew. In the existing method of on-line reorganization have a drawback that needs excessive data migrations in case more than two nodes within a cluster have overload at the same time. In this paper, we propose an advanced B$^{+}$ tree based on-line reorganization method that solves data skew on multi-nodes. Our method facilitates fast and efficient data migration by including spare nodes that are added to cluster through on-line scaling. Also we apply CSB$^{+}$ tree (Cache Sensitive B$^{+}$ tree) to our method instead of B$^{+}$ tree for fast select and update queries. We conducted performance study and implemented the method on Ultra Fault-Tolerant Database Cluster developed for high scalability and availability. Empirical results demonstrate that our proposed method is indeed effective and fast than the existing method. method.

  • Dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) is a well-known and effective power management technique. While there has been research on slack distribution, voltage allocation and other aspects of DVS, its effects on non-voltage-scalable devices has hardly been considered. A DC-DC converter plays an important role in voltage generation and regulation in most embedded systems, and is an essential component in DVS-enabled systems that scale supply voltage dynamically. We introduce a power consumption model of DC-DC converters and analyze the energy consumption of the system including the DC-DC converter. We propose an energy-optimal off-line DVS scheduling algorithm for systems with DC-DC converters, and show experimentally that our algorithm outperforms existing DVS algorithms in terms of energy consumption.

  • Multiresoluton analysis(MRA) of space of square integrable functions defined on whole entire line has been well-known. But for many applications, MRA on bounded interval was required and studied. In this paper we give a MRA for $L^2$(0, 1) by means of periodic wavelets based on regular MRA for $L^2$(R) and give the convergence of partial sums.

  • An applied technique of contrast enhancement for X-ray image is proposed which is based on combined enhancement of scaling and wavelet coefficients in discrete wavelet transform space. Conventional contrast enhancement methods such as contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE), multi-scale image contrast amplification (MUSICA) and gamma correction were applied on scaling coefficients to enhance the contrast of an original. In order to enhance the detail as well as reduce the blurring caused by up scaling of contrast modified scale coefficients from lower resolution, the sigmoid manipulation function was used to manipulate wavelet coefficients. The contrast detail mammography (CDMAM) phantom was imaged and processed to measure the image line profile of results and contrast to noise ratio (CNR) comparatively. The proposed technique produced better results than direct application of various contrast enhancement methods on image itself. The proposed method can enhance contrast, and also suppress the amplification of noise components in a single process. It could be useful for various applications in medical, industrial and graphical images where contrast and detail are of importance.

  • This paper presents a 3D object recognition method for generation of 3D environmental map or obstacle recognition of mobile robots. An active light source projects a stripe pattern of light onto the object surface, while the camera observes the projected pattern from its offset point. The system consists of a laser unit and a camera on a pan/tilt device. The line segment in 2D camera image implies an object surface plane. The scaling, filtering, edge extraction, object extraction and line thinning are used for the enhancement of the light stripe image. We can get faithful depth informations of the object surface from the line segment interpretation. The performance of the proposed method has demonstrated in detail through the experiments for varies type objects. Experimental results show that the method has a good position accuracy, effectively eliminates optical noises in the image, greatly reduces memory requirement, and also greatly cut down the image processing time for the 3D object recognition compared to the conventional object recognition.

  • A Conjugate Gradient (CG) algorithm for unconstrained minimization is proposed which is invariant to a nonlinear scaling of a strictly convex quadratic function and which generates mutually conjugate directions for extended quadratic functions. It is derived for inexact line searches and is designed for the minimization of general nonlinear functions. It compares favorably in numerical tests with the original Dixon algorithm on which the new algorithm is based.

  • Experimental investigations have revealed significant mismatches between analytical estimates and experimentally measured deflections of transmission towers. These are attributed to bolt slip and joint flexibility. This study focuses on effects of joint flexibility on tower deflections and proposes criterions for permissible deflection limits based on the stresses in joints. The objective has been framed given that guidelines are not available in the codes of practices for transmission towers with regard to the permissible limits of deflection. The analysis procedure is geometric and material nonlinear with consideration of joint flexibility in the form of extension or contraction of the cover plates. The deflections due to bolt slip are included in the study by scaling up the deflections obtained from analysis by a factor. Using the results of the analysis, deflection limits for the towers are proposed by limiting the stresses in the joints. The obtained limits are then applied to a new full scale tower to demonstrate the application of the current study.

  • The massive limit of black holes (BHs) is observed as present day ten billion solar masses. We search for observational signatures of BHs that become extremely massive (EMBHs, 1-10 billion solar masses). I will report on the evolution of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) through the growth of BH mass and their dust emission strength. First, we measured 26 EMBH masses of quasars at 1

  • The dynamic response of two-dimensional unbounded domain on the rigid bedrock in the time domain is numerically obtained. It is realized by the modified scaled boundary finite element method (SBFEM) in which the original scaling center is replaced by a scaling line. The formulation bases on expanding dynamic stiffness by using the continued fraction approach. The solution converges rapidly over the whole time range along with the order of the continued fraction increases. In addition, the method is suitable for large scale systems. The numerical method is employed which is a combination of the time domain SBFEM for far field and the finite element method used for near field. By using the continued fraction solution and introducing auxiliary variables, the equation of motion of unbounded domain is built. Applying the spectral shifting technique, the virtual modes of motion equation are eliminated. Standard procedure in structural dynamic is directly applicable for time domain problem. Since the coefficient matrixes of equation are banded and symmetric, the equation can be solved efficiently by using the direct time domain integration method. Numerical examples demonstrate the increased robustness, accuracy and superiority of the proposed method. The suitability of proposed method for time domain simulations of complex systems is also demonstrated.
