  • Biodegradation of carbon tetrachloride (CTC) in denitrifying and aerobic columns was investigated under various conditions of electron-acceptor and electron-donor availability. CTC removal increased when the electron-acceptor (nitrate) injection was stopped in the denitrifying column; however, CTC remova1 decreased when electron donor (acetate) was deleted in the denitrifying and the aerobic column. Small fractions of the CTC removed appeared as chloroform, indicating that reductive dechlorination of CTC was occurring. The results from the denitrifying column support the hypothesis that CTC behaves as an electron acceptor that competes for the pool of available electrons inside the bacterial cells.

This document provides comprehensive guidelines for the proper shutdown and reactivation of UHPLC systems to prevent damage and maintain operational efficiency. • Shutdown: Remove the column and replace it with a union to avoid blockages. Flush the system with a compatible solvent mix, clean mobile phase reservoirs to prevent microbial growth, flush the pump with storage solvent, and clean the autosampler, including the needle and injection port. • Reactivation: Inspect the system for wear or damage, gradually reintroduce mobile phases starting with a weak solvent, reinstall the column securely, and perform system checks on baseline stability, pressure consistency, and detector performance. Simultaneous Determination of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Their Nitro-derivatives in Airborne Particulates by Using Two-dimensional High-performance Liquid Chromatography with On-line Reduction and Fluorescence Detection

  • An analytical method using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence (FL) detection was developed for simultaneously analyzing 10 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and 18 nitro-derivatives of PAHs (NPAHs). The two-dimensional HPLC system consists of an on-line clean-up and reduction for NPAHs in the 1st dimension, and separation of the PAHs and the reduced NPAHs and their FL detection in the 2nd dimension after column-switching. To identify an ideal clean-up column for removing sample matrix that may interfere with detection of the analytes, the characteristics of 8 reversed-phase columns were evaluated. The nitrophenylethyl (NPE)-bonded silica column was selected because of its shorter elution band and larger retention factors of the analytes due to strong dipole-dipole interactions. The amino-substituted PAHs (reduced NPAHs), PAHs and deuterated internal standards were separated on polymeric octadecyl-bonded silica (ODS) columns and by dual-channel detection within 120 min including clean-up and reduction steps. The limits of detection were 0.1-9.2 pg per injection for PAHs and 0.1-140 pg per injection for NPAHs. For validation, the method was applied to analyze crude extracts of fine particulate matter ($PM_{2.5}$) samples and achieved good analytical precision and accuracy. Moreover, the standard reference material (SRM1649b, urban dust) was analyzed by this method and the observed concentrations of PAHs and NPAHs were similar to those in previous reports. Thus, the method developed here-in has the potential to become a standard HPLC-based method, especially for NPAHs.

  • A vertebral cage is a hollow medical device which is used in spine forgery. By implanting the cage into the spine column, it is possible to restore disc and relieve pressure on the nerve roots. Most cages have been made of titanium alloys but they detract the biocompatibility. Currently PEEK (polyether ether ketone) if applied to various implants because it has good properties like heat resistance, chemical resistance, strength, and especially biocompatibility. A new shape of vertebral cage is designed and injection molding of PEEK is considered for production. Before injection molding of the cage, it is needed to evaluate process conditions and properties of the final product. Variables affecting the shrinkage of the cage are considered, e.g., injection time, packing pressure, mold temperature, and melt temperature. By using the numerical simula-tion program, MOLDFLOW, several cases are studied. Data files obtained by MOLDFLOW analysis are used for stress anal-ysis with ABAQUS, and shrinkage and residual stress fields are predicted. With these results, optimum process conditions are determined.

  • High-performance frontal analysis (HPFA) was used for the determination of the binding constant of Sibuprofen to human serum albumin (HSA). This experiment was based on an Inertsil 100 Diol 5 column and sodium phosphate buffer (pH 7.4 and ionic strength of 0.17) as the mobile phase. The mixture of S-ibuprofen and HSA (70 $\mu$M) solution were directly injected into the HPFA column. An injection volume of 200 $\mu$L and a “estricted injection”method were applied to ensure the drug to be eluted as a zonal peak with a plateau. The unbound drug concentration was calculated from the peak height of the zonal peak. Scatchard analysis was used for evaluation of the binding constant (K) and binding affinity (nK) of S-ibuprofen to HSA, and the results were K = 2.833 ${\times}$ 10$^4$ [L mol$^{-1}$], nK = 4.935 ${\times}$ 10$^4$ [L mol$^{-1}$], respectively.

  • 아음속 공기유동으로 수직분사하는 액체제트에 대하여 오리피스 형상이 달라질 경우, 분무특성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 실험적으로 연구하였다. 서로 다른 오리피스 길이 대 직경비와 타원형 노즐의 종횡비를 갖는 분사기들을 제작하여 수직분사 실험을 진행하였다. 원형노즐과 타원형 노즐에서의 분열길이를 비교하였으며, 타원형 노즐에서의 분열길이는 모든 실험조건에서 원형노즐에 비해 줄어들었다. 캐비테이션과 수력튀김 현상이 분사기 내부에 발달되는 분무차압 조건의 경우, 두 노즐 모두 분열길이가 감소하였다. 액주궤적의 경우, 장축으로부터 분무되는 액체제트가 횡방향 공기유동에 수직으로 부딪혀 나가는 경우가 액주의 궤적이 단축에 비해 더 휘어지며, 침투높이가 낮아진다.

  • Such carboxyl drugs as mefenamic acid, alclofenac, ketoprofen, cicloxilic acid and tolfenainic acid in rat plasma were determined by the gas chromatography flame photometric detector (GC-FPD). After methylthiomethyl (MTM) esterification with MTM-chloride in 1, 8-diazabicyclo [5.4.0] undec-7-ene (DBU) catalyst, determination of these drugs by this method was tried and compared with that by the GC-flame ionization detector (FID) method in respect to sensitivity and effect of inteferences. The results showed it was possible to analyze with accuracy by this method because of specificity of the FPD, although these drugs were not separated from interferences in plasma on GC column. The GC-FPD method was more sensitive than GC-FID method and the minimum detectable amount of monocarboxylic drugs on 3%, QF-1 column was about 15fmol/injection.

  • Liquid injection in a Venturi Scrubber creates great effect on the dust-collection efficiency and operation cost of venturi scrubbers. We have developed a model that can numerically simulate atomization of the liquid jet in the Venturi Scrubber. This simulation consists of models on liquid column, jet surface breakup, column fracture and secondary droplet breakup. These models have been embedded in the KIVA3-V code. We have calculated such parameters as the jet penetration, jet trajectory, droplet size, velocity field and the volume flux distribution. The results are compared with the experimental data in this paper.

  • 전단 동축 분사기의 Inner-stage와 Outer-stage의 기체 분사 비율 변화에 따른 축방향 유동 분포 특성과 분무 분열 특성을 실험적으로 연구였다. 무차원 측정 거리를 Z/d=100까지 변화시킴에 따라 운동량 교환, 공기역학적 항력, 점성 혼합의 영향으로 완전 발달된 유동의 형태를 나타내었다. Inner-stage의 기체분사와 Outer-stage의 기체 분사의 영향은 Z/d=5 이내의 영역에서 간섭받지 않고 분무 초기에 Inner-stage에서 분사된 기체 전단력에 의해 분열됨을 파악할 수 있었으며, Z/d=10 이상의 영역에서 완전 발달된 유동으로 변화하며, 유동의 혼합이 진행됨을 관찰 할 수 있었다. Inner-stage의 운동량 플럭스 비 0.84 이내에서 Outer-stage의 운동량 플럭스 비가 증가함에 따라 SMD가 감소하는 경향을 나타내었으며, Inner-stage의 운동량 플럭스 비가 1.38 이상의 조건에서 SMD의 분포가 유사하게 나타나는 경향을 관찰할 수 있었다.
