Estimation of Genetic Parameters for Finished and Furlong Times in Thoroughbred Racehorses

  • The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for racing performance traits of thoroughbredracehorses, using a total of 58,124 racing records of 4,200 horses at Gwacheon Racing Park collected from January 2002 to December 2006. This study measured start one furlong time, last three and last one furlong times, and the resulting furlong time averages were 14.2 seconds, 39.9 seconds and 13.9 seconds, respectively. Furlong time means a split time measured based on a 1/8-mile (or approximately 201 m) distance and finished time means total racing time measured from start position to finish line. In the shortest distance races of 1,000 m, the average last three and last one furlong time was fastest at 38.7 seconds and 13.6 seconds, respectively. The correlation between finished time and start one furlong time decreased as the race distance increased, and the same trend was recognized from the correlation between finished time and last three furlong time. In short distance races of 1,400 m or less, the starting ability was found to be an important trait. The average speed was highest at 56 km/h for a 1,000 m race and lowest at 53.2 km/h for a 1,700 m race. Heritabilities of the start one furlong time, the last three and last one furlong time were estimated to be 0.337, 0.245 and 0.210, respectively; and repeatabilities for them were 0.452, 0.353 and 0.309, respectively. Phenotypic and genetic correlations between the start and the last one furlong time were negative at -0.141 and -0.155, respectively.

ALM-FNN을 이용한 IPMSM 드라이브의 HIPI 제어기 (HIPI Controller of IPMSM Drive using ALM-FNN)

  • 종래의 고정된 이득을 가진 PI 제어기는 지령속도, 부하변화 등과 같은 파라미터 변동에 대해서 매우 민감하다. IPMSM 드라이브의 정확한 속도제어는 비선형적인 전자기적 발생저항뿐만 아니라 회전자 속도와 권선저항사이의 비선형적 관계 때문에 복잡한 문제점이 있다. 따라서 광범위한 동작상태에서 최적 제어를 위해 PI 제어기의 이득값을 실시간으로 조절해야한다. 본 논문은 FNN과 ALM을 이용하여 IPMSM 드라이브의 HIPI 제어기를 제시한다. 제시된 제어기는 ANN을 이용하여 속도를 추정하고, 시스템 외란에 대해서 IPMSM 드라이브의 고성능 속도제어를 제시한다. PI 제어기의 이득값은 모든 동작상태에서 ALM-FNN에 의해 최적화 되어진다. 제시된 제어기는 다양한 동작상태에 대한 분석을 통해 타당성을 입증한다.

  • 音聲과 데이터가 集積된 패킷 通信網의 性能을 豫測하고 시스템 파라메터를 最適化하기 위한 시뮬레이터의 개발에 관하여 記述하였다. 具現된 시뮬레이터는 CCITT의 勸告事項에 따라 運用되는 데이터 터미널이나 host는 물론 패킷 音聲터미널도 연결가능한 音聲 및 데이터集積通信網의 性能을 여러 상황에서 豫測할 수 있다. 시뮬레이션 技法으로는 지금까지 알려진 세가지 discrete event 시뮬레이션 技法 중 process interaction 方法이 사용되었는데 이 方法을 사용하면 실제 시스템과 가장 비슷한 시뮬레이터를 具現할 수 있다. 시뮬레이터는 약 4,000line의 GPSS 시뮬레이션 언어와 PL/I으로 具現되었다. 시뮬레이터의 컴퓨터 run time을 줄이기 위하여 GPSS의 LINK block을 사용함으로써 條件的 event의 數를 줄이는 方法을 사용하였다. 구현된 시뮬레이터를 사용하여 7-node 通信網의 性能을 豫測하였다. 또 개발된 시뮬레이터의 妥當性을 檢證하기 위하여 간단한 音聲과 데이터 multiplexer를 시뮬레이션 모델로 구성한 뒤 그 시뮬레이션 결과를 解釋的 방법에 依한 결과와 比較하였다.

한국 재래 돼지 근교 계통 돈의 산육 형질에 대한 유전모수 및 표준 성장 곡선 추정에 관한 연구 (Study on Estimation of Genetic Parameters for the Meat Production Traits and the Standard Growth Curve in the Inbred Line of Korean Native Pig)

  • 본 연구는 재래 돼지의 산육 능력을 개량하기 위한 기초 자료를 제공하기 위하여 축산과학원에서 2001년부터 2006년까지 20 kg에 검정을 개시하고 70 kg에 검정을 종료하여 발육 능력을 조사한 546개의 재래 돼지 산육 능력 검정 자료를 활용하여 유전모수를 추정하였으며, 재래 돼지 사육 농가의 사양방법 개선을 위하여 2003년부터 2005년까지 조사된 재래 돼지성돈 및 검정돈 132두의 발육 단계별 체중 및 체위 조사 자료를 다중 회귀 분석하여 재래 돼지 발육 표준 자료를 제시하였다. 재래 돼지의 주요 산육 능력에 대한 유전력을 추정한 결과, 일당 증체량과 등지방 두께에서 중도의 유전력이 나타나는 것을 확인하였으며, 체중 및 체위에 대한 성장 곡선을 추정한 결과 11개월령 이후는 체장, 체고 및 흉폭의 변화가 거의 없는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 결과를 통하여 본 연구에서 추정한 재래 돼지 산육 형질의 유전모수를 이용하여 육종가 추정과 후보돈 선발에 적용함으로써 유전적 개량을 증대시키고, 발육 단계별 체중 및 체위 표준 자료를 재래 돼지 능력향상 연구와 사육 방법 개선을 위한 기초 자료로 활용함으로써 재래 돼지의 산업화에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • 본 연구는 폐쇄종돈군을 유지하면서 장기간 선발육종을 실시한 Landrace 및 Yorkshire 모계 종돈집단에서 임신기간, 총산자수, 이유후초종부일 및 사산두수에 대한 유전적 변이성을 제시함으로써 이들 형질들에 대한 선발지표에 참고자료를 제시하고자 실시하였다. 분석에 이용된 자료는 상기의 형질들에 대하여 사전 이상치를 제외한 후, Landrace 품종에서 1,910두의 모돈으로부터 수집된 7,616복의 기록 및 Yorkshire 품종 2283두의 모돈으로부터 수집된 총 10,454복의 기록을 이용하였다. 분석형질들에 대한 유전변이를 추정하기 위하여 상기의 4개 형질을 동시에 고려한 혼합모형을 설정하였으며, 특히 사산두수에 대하여는 정규성에 크게 위배되기 때문에 범주형 자료로 가정하여 다형질 선형-임계형 반복동물개체모형을 설정하여 분석하였다. 분석방법으로서는 Bayesian 추론의 일종인 Gibbs Sampling (GS) 방법에 의하여 모수의 사후분포 함수로부터 모수에 대한 GS을 50,000회 실시하고 burn-in을 제외한 후 모수의 사후분포에 대한 통계량을 제시하였다. 유전변이를 추정한 결과, 임신기간에 대한 유전력은 0.21~0.35로 추정되었고, 이유후초종부일에서는 0.16~0.23, 총산자수는 0.14~0.16 및 사산두수에 있어서는 0.09~0.10으로 추정되었다. 임신기간에 대한 유전상관 추정치는 총산자수 및 사산두수에서 부의 상관을 갖는 것으로 추정되었고 총산자수와 사산두수와는 정의 상관을 갖는 것으로 추정되었다. 총산자수와 이유후초발정일 간의 유전상관은 낮은 부의 상관을 갖는 것으로 추정되었으며 임신기간과 이유후 초종부일 간에는 유전적 상관관계가 매우 미약한 것으로 분석되었다. 따라서 총산자수를 개량하고자 할 때, 사산두수를 고려하여 선발지표를 설정함이 타당할 것으로 판단되었다.

연속방법을 사용한 Bayesian 영상복원 (Bayesian Image Restoration Using a Continuation Method)

  • 영상복원법 중에는 복원하고자 하는 원 영상의 화소밝기분포가 부분적으로 평탄하다는 가정을 한 부가적인 Gibbs 사전정보를 포함하는 방법이 있다. 이 경우 Gibbs 사전정보를 표현하기 위해 원 영상의 화소밝기를 나타내는 실변수 뿐 아니라 경계를 정의하는 이진변수를 포함하는 에너지 함수를 정의하게 된다. 그러나, 이러한 실변수와 이진변수의 복합형태가 존재할 경우 이들을 동시에 추정하는 것은 매우 어려운 것으로 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 deterministic annealing 방법의 응용을 고찰하기로 한다. Deterministic annealing 방법은 다른 방법과 달리 실수 값을 취하는 변수 및 이진변수가 복합형태로 존재하는 문제를 다루는데 있어서 매우 원리적이고 효율적인 방법을 제공한다. 이 방법에서는 복합형태를 취하는 원 함수에 근접하도록 하는 일련의 함수들을 정의하게 되는데, 이때 새로운 일련의 함수들은 실변수만을 취하도록 변환된다. 일련의 함수 중 개개의 함수는 조종파라미터(냉각시 온도에 해당)에 의해 지정된다. 고온에서의 에너지 함수는 저온에서의 에너지와 유사하나 좀더 완만한 형태를 취하게 된다. 따라서, 온도를 서서히 낮추면서 고온에서의 에너지 함수를 저온에서의 에너지 함수로 변환시켜 감으로써 에너지 함수를 최소화하는 작업이 용이해 진다. 이것이 연속방법의 핵심이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 연속방법을 Bayesian 영상복원 모델에 적용하여 그 성능을 실험을 통해 검증한다.

Selection response and estimation of the genetic parameters for multidimensional measured breast meat yield related traits in a long-term breeding Pekin duck line

  • Objective: This study was conducted to estimate the genetic parameters and breeding values of breast meat related traits of Pekin ducks. Selection response was also determined by using ultrasound breast muscle thickness (BMT) measurements in combination with bosom breadth (BB) and keel length (KL) values. Methods: The traits analyzed were breast meat weight (BMW), body weight (BW), breast meat percentage (BMP) and the three parameters of breast meat (BB, KL, and BMT). These measurements were derived from studying 15,781 Pekin ducks selected from 10 generations based on breast meat weight. Genetic parameters and breeding value were estimated for the analysis of the breeding process. Results: Estimated heritability of BMW and BMP were moderate (0.23 and 0.16, respectively), and heritability of BW was high (0.48). Other traits such as BB, KL, and BMT indicated moderate heritability ranging between 0.11 and 0.28. Significant phenotypic correlations of BMW with BW and BMP were discovered (p<0.05), and genetic correlations of BMW with BW and BMP were positive and high (0.83 and 0.66, respectively). It was noted that BMW had positive correlations with all the other traits. Generational average estimated breeding values of all traits increased substantially over the course of selection, which demonstrated that the ducks responded efficiently to increased breast meat yield after 10 generations of breeding. Conclusion: The results indicated that duck BMW had the potential to be increased through genetic selection with positive effects on BW and BMP. The ultrasound BMT, in combination with the measurement of BB and KL, is shown to be essential and effective in the process of high breast meat yield duck breeding.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The CF 15-11 HFDs which failed APD test did not show changes in the UFR compared to normal dialyzers indicating that APD is a more sensitive test than UFR test to evaluate the integrity of the fibers. 30527 T00401030527 ^x For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. The strip loader and cassette were made to obtain more accurate reflectance parameters. The strip was illuminated at 45˚c through optical fiber and the intensity of reflected light was determined at rectanguLat angle using a photodiode. The kubelka-munk coefficient and reflection optical density were determined ar four different wavelengths(500, 550, 570 and 610nm) for blood glucose strip. The mice were divided into two groups. One group was injected with Photofrin II, intravenously (2.5mg/kg body weight). The other group received no Photofrin II. A photosensitizer behaved as an added absorber. Under our experimental conditions, the presence of Photolfrin II increased surface temperature by at least 40% and the temperature rise due to 300 mW/cm2 irradiation exceeded values for hyperthermia. Light and temperature distributions with depth were estimated by a computer model. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. The results suggested that the femoral component suitable for Asians should be different from the currently-used components designed and manufactured mostly by European or American companies. 30537 T00401030537 ^x It is well known that nonlinear propagation characteristics of the wave in the tissue may give very useful information for the medical diagnoisis. In this paper, a new method to detect nonlinear propagation characteristics of the internal vibration in the tissue for the low frequency mechanical vibration by using bispectral analysis is proposed. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms. Our department has developed an information system for routine hematology using down-sized computer system. The operating system and database management system were SCO UNIX and SCO foxbase, respectively. For program development, we used Xbase language provided by SCO foxbase. The C language was used for interface purpose. To make the system use friendly, pull-down menu was used. The system connected to our hospital information system via application program interface (API), so the information related to patient and request details is automatically transmitted to our computer. Our system interfaced with fwd complete blood count analyzers(Sysmex NE-8000 and Coulter STKS) for unidirectional data tansmission from analyzer to computer.   • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70${\pm}$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32${\pm}$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N.
