Effect of Orifice Type and Number on the Mixing and Flow Characteristics in In-line Mixer (관내 혼화장치의 오리피스 형상과 개수에 따른 혼화 및 유동특성)

  • This study examines the effect of the type and number of orifices in an in-line mixer to improve the mixing performance and pressure loss. Recently, in-line non-power-consuming mixers have been increasingly used to complement mechanical mixers, which have a long dwell time, noise, excessive energy consumption, and high maintenance costs. An in-line mixer with an orifice for efficient mixing in water treatment was examined by numerical analysis using the commercial code FLUENT. The flow characteristics of pressure loss and velocity distribution within the mixer and the mixing efficiency were compared with and without the orifices. The CFD results show that the mixing efficiency was improved, but the pressure loss was increased by the in-line mixer with an orifice. A sensitivity study was also done on the principal parameters.

  • For a successful construction project not only construction engineering and project management technology but also economic evaluation technique is required. Design and construction technologies are necessary to receive a project order. However, construction management technology which can be apply from the project initial phase to the project operation and management phase is required to create a benefit from the project. Construction management technology is one of the effective factors for project success. Economical and efficient cost management from the planning phase influences the project success. This study investigated cost flow and cost factors of domestic Sewage Treatment Plant project for systematic analysis of cost items following the entire project phase. Particularly, data modeling based on domestic Sewage Treatment Equipment maintenance cost DB was performed, and maintenance cost estimation trend line is suggested using Monte carlo Simulation Method to decrease uncertainty of actual results DB and for feasibility study.   • Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation, managing the line number 5,6,7 and 8 has inspected and maintained for the maintenance of the facilities spread in the extended 152km and 148 stations. Despite the thorough inspection for prevention of the facility failure, the failure has continuously occurred, due to the environmental factors of the underground, mechanical worn-out caused by frequent use, aging facilities, system error, negligence on use, etc. We have achieved a 53.4% reduction in the number of failure by the end of June, 2010 by breaking the conventional way of inspections and maintenance and by adopting quantitative goal management and new way of work. In this paper, we will analyze the problems of inspections and maintenance of the railway facilities, the failure reduction strategy and the performance of each strategy.

Characterization of HEK293 and Namalwa Cell Cultures by Using Design of Experiment (실험계획법을 이용한 HEK293 및 Namalwa 세포배양 특성 규명)

  • Various human host cell lines, which are more effective than the other original human cell lines, have been developed and used. Highly efficient human cell line can be obtained from the fusion between human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) and human Burkitt's lymphoma cells (Namalwa). Fused cell line has the advantages of both cell lines such as the high transfection efficacy of HEK293 cells and the constitutive expression of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genome which is related with high expression of target protein and anti-apoptotic growth of Namalwa cells. In this study, characterization of two original cell lines was performed by using design of experiment (DOE) considering cell maintenance, media development, optimization of culture condition, and scale-up. The formation of aggregates was apparent with high glutamine concentration at more than 6 mM. Supplementation of hydrolysates showed positive effects on the growth performances of HEK293 cells. On the contrary, Namalwa cells showed negative results. It was confirmed that Namalwa cells were more sensitive to lower temperature at $35^{\circ}C$ and hyperosmotic condition over 260 mOsm/kg. In addition, both cell lines showed limited growth in 3-L bioreactor due to shear stress.

  • Leak-before-break(LBB) approach has been shown to be both cost and risk effective by reducing maintenance cost and occupational exposure when applied to high energy piping in nuclear power plants. For Korean Next Generation Reactor(KNGR) development, LBB is considered for the Main Steam Line(MSL) piping inside containment. Unlike the reactor coolant piping leakages which can be detected by particulate and gaseous radiation monitoring, main steam line leak detection systems must be based on principles that do not involve radioactivity. Ceramics are widely used as humidity sensor materials which can be further developed for nuclear applications. In this paper, we describe the progress in the development of ceramic humidity sensors for use with the main steam lines of KNGR.

  • Opening commercial service of KTX at the time of demanding more flexible train set for HONAM line and JEONLA line, it's necessary for the Korean High speed train, performing the stabilization; to modify the design in aspect of passenger and maintenance. In order to ensure the optimized interior design in Korean High speed train, it is necessary to review the major items such as disabled passenger facility, toilet, seat arrangement, compartment partition and door, access door, electrical cabinet, color and paint through the European standard and compare with other high speed train.

  • In the case of construction equipment, internal wiring has a very complicated structure such as an electrical wiring and hydraulic equipments. Because of these complex wiring, a lot of time is spent on maintenance and equipment manufacturing. In this paper, we design and implementation of the high-reliability PLC(Power Line Communication) -CAN(Controller Area Network) communication module to reduce electrical wiring of the construction equipment.

  • Recently, the progress of industrialization has been taken concern of material handling automation. So for, the conveyor belt has been popular for material handling. However, this system has many disadvantages such as the space, cost, etc. In this paper, a new navigation algorithm using fuzzy is introduced. The mobile robot follows a line installed on the roads. These informations are inputted with three approximate sensors. These obtained informations are analyzed with fuzzy control technique fur autonomous steering. Therefore, unlike existing systems, high reliability is guaranteed under bad environment conditions. The installation and maintenance of a line is easily made at lower cost. This developed mobile robot can be applied to material handling automation in manufacturing system, hospital, inter-office document del ivory.

ACSR Inner Corrosion Detection by Eddy Current Test Method (ACSR 가공지선의 부식 검출에 관한 연구)

  • This paper deals with ACSR(Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) inner corrosion detection using a detector which automatically runs on an ACSR transmission line and inspects the inner corrosion of the conductor by utilization of the nondestructive eddy current test. And the relationship between the corrosion grades and the tensile strength can be estimated by means of this test. According to corrosion appearance and development of ACSR, the impedance change of the eddy current coils is theoretically verified. And then specifications And performances of the detector are described. Experimental procedures and desirable test results are reported. In conclusion, this detector can realize the nondestructive detecting of an ACSR inner corrosion. Upgrading the maintenance effciency and improving the reliability of transmission line would be expected by this nondestructive test method.

  • In this paper a new distributive control system for BA(Building Automation ) lighting control used on general microprocessors is presented. For optimal lighting control and saving energy, The system have to control the group and pattern lighting control as well as individual light control at one time. Tn this paper, This functions are accomplished with low-cost and simple microprocessor. A plurality of modulated light control terminals are connected to the central control unit through a pair of power line. This power line provide both power and signal to the each terminal and the data is transmitted through cyclic time division multiplex transmission. With this structure a low-cost distributive control system for lighting applications has been achieved, allowing energy and maintenance saving and reliability increase of the light control system.
