To achieve mine development, a large amount of data concerned with the geological structure and the ore body had to be investigated and collected through geological survey, drilling and geophysical explorations. In most previous cases, however, the data were usually analyzed two dimensionally and those results showed some limits because of their 2D presentation. Those 2D maps such as geological plane sections or longitudinal sections cause lots of difficulties in understanding the complex geological structure or the feature of ore body in a spatial way. In this study, research area was set on the abandoned Yangyang iron mine in Korea and the Sugaeng ore body within the mine was selected as the research target to design a mine haulage system for reopening. A 3D mine model of this area was tried to be constructed using a 3D modelling software, GEMS. An accurate 3D model including the ore body, the geological structure, the old underground mine drifts and the new mine drifts was constructed under the purpose of reopening of the abandoned iron mine. Especially, mine design for trackless haulage system was conducted. New inclines and drifts were planned and modelled 3 dimensionally considering the utilization of old drifts and shaft. In addition to the 3D modelling, geostatistical technique was adopted to generate a spatial distribution of the ore grade and the rock physical properties. 3D model would be able to contribute in solving problems such as evaluating ore reserves, planning the mine development and additional explorations and changing the development plans, etc.

The patient was a 30-day-old female infant with symptoms of severe dyspnea and cyanosis, when she was admitted to the ER. The echocardiography revealed DORV with subpulmonary VSD, and the diagnosis of Taussig-Bing anomaly was made. Two days after admission, an urgent operation was performed. The operation consisted of intraventricular tunnel repair and arterial switch operation. She was discharged, and after checking her chest X-ray through OPD, there was no interval change of cardiomegaly. She was then re-admitted, and the angiography revealed coactation of aorta. We performed a resection and end-to-end anastomosis of aorta. She is currently in good condition 11 months postoperatively.
Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is a combination of signs and symptoms caused by the compression of the vital neurovascular structure at the thoracic outlet region. It may stem from a number of abnormalities, including degenerative or bony disorders, trauma to cervical spine, fibromuscular bands, vascular abnormalities and spasm of the anterior scalene muscle. CPT (current perception threshold) is defined as the minimum amount of current applied transcutaneously that an individual consciously perceives. It enables quantification of the hyperesthesia that precedes progressive nerve impairment, as well as hypoesthetic conditions. We experienced a case of thoracic outlet syndrome caused by fibrosis of anterior scalene muscle. The patient was a 30 years old woman with a 3 years history of numbness on the ulnar side, progressive weakness and coldness of both hand, tiredness in the left arm, nocturnal pain in the left forearm, and pain in the left elbow, shoulder and neck. Conservative treatment, stellate ganglion block, cervical epidural block, anterior scalene block and previous operation, including both carpal tunnel release, provided no remarkable relief to the patient. A left scalenectomy and first rib resection were performed by transaxillary approach and left cervical root neurolysis was done. After surgery, we measured CPT using neurometer and found conditions worsening in the opposite arm. We performed the same procedure on right side, and followed by CPT measurement. This case suggests that CPT is a useful measurement of recovery and progression of TOS.
The clinical findings with cardioangiography and successful surgical treatment of a 10 year old girl with double-outlet right ventricle is reported at The Dept. of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Korea University Hospital, College of Medicine. The patient has been suffered from intermittent cyanosis, palpitation, and exertional dyspnea since 1 year after NFSD, and a holosystolic ejection murmur of grade 4 at the left 3rd intercostal space with mild cyanosis of the lips was the only physical findings at the time of this admission. Cardiac catheterization revealed ventricular septal defect with left to right shunt of 43% and right to left shunt of 10.2%. On cardioangiography from the left ventricle revealed all of the left ventricular outflow shunted into the right ventricle through the large ventricular septal defect, and the aorta originated from the infundibular chamber of the right ventricle with left, anterior sided pulmonary artery. The atria, viscera, and ventricles were normally located, and right ventricular out-flow was narrowed with infundibular hypertrophy and pulmonary valvular stenosis. Surgical correction was accomplished by closure of the ventricular septal defect in such a way that left ventricular outflow was routed via a Teflon felt prosthetic tunnel to the aorta, and pulmonary valvulotomy with infundibulectomy Was done to pass Hegar`s dilator No. 15 for reconstruction of the right ventricular outflow tract. The patient tolerated complete repair and has continued to improve over a period of three months after operation with normal school life. Details of the disease and method of repair are presented with related references.
Purpose: In developed countries, vesicovaginal fistula occur from various pelvic operations including total hysterectomy, leading to urinary leakage and incontinence. Although various methods have been proposed for adequate tissue coverage in fistula repair, the surgical treatment of is not simple and still controversial. We report a case of neobladder-vaginal fistula repair using modified Martius fat pad flap. Methods: A 62-year-old female patient underwent radical cystectomy with total abdominal hysterectomy and neobladder formation due to invasive bladder tumor 5 years ago. For 3 years following the operation, urine leakage was observed. Exploration demonstrated neobladder-vaginal fistula and primary repair including fistulectomy and direct closure was performed. Urinary incontinence relapsed 2 years after primary repair, and after demonstrating the recurrence of fistula on urography, repair of recurrent fistula was performed. After dissection of vagina and neobladder and closure of fistula by urologic surgeon, fibroadipose flap was elevated, rotated and advanced through the tunnel at vaginal sidewall, and interpositioned to the fistula site between neobladder and vagina. Results: There was no acute complication after the surgery and urethral catheter was extracted on the 8th day after the operation. During six month follow-up period after the operation, there is no clinical evidence of fistula recurrence. Conclusion: From our clinical experience and literature review, we think Martius fat pad flap is a useful technique in management of neobladder-vaginal fistula, for it provides enough vascularity, major epithelization surface and better lymphatic drainage, and also prevents overlapping of vesical, vaginal suture lines at the same time.
Many old domestic mines were excavated with the room and pillar method or the sublevel caving method and they involve the great possibility of surface subsidence, especially in the shallow depth mines. In most of these cases, the mine roadways and openings are very irregular in shape and the information about the local geology is uncertain. Consequently it is not simple to standardize the estimation method for the possibility of subsidence, especially the sinkhole subsidence. In this study, the fuzzy reasoning method has been applied for development of estimating the possibility of subsidence occurrence in abandoned mine area. This method has the advantage in producing the reliable estimation results with a simple performance procedure even when the precise information on the local geology and mining conditions is rare. For the verification of applicability of this method, the developed method has been applied to Kumho mine in Bonghwa, Kyungbook province and the Choong-ju mine in Iryu, Choongbook province where the surface subsidence occurred already.
Aortic regurgitation in the pediatrics who had previous cardiac surgery is increased with their improved longterm survival rate and their complexity of heart disease. So the need of aortic valve surgery in pediatrics is also on the increase. A 10-year old boy was admitted for progressive cyanosis and dyspnea on exertion(DOE). The patient had been underwent lateral tunnel Fontan operation before. Echocardiography and cardiac catheterization study revealed hepatic vein drained to pulmonary atrium via intrahepatic collaterals, moderate atrioventricular regurgitation, and severe aortic regurgitation due to aortic root dilation. We report a case who had aortic root reconstruction, valvuloplasty of the atrioventricular valve, and hepatic vein ligation successfully Cyanosis and DOE was dramatically improved after the operation

The surgical management of patients with transposition of the great arteries, ventricular septal defect, and pulmonary stenosis remains a challenge. The Rastelli operation or Lecompte operation is the preferred surgical procedure, but its long-term results are not optimal because of a warped left ventricular outflow tract through a space-occupied intraventricular tunnel and a contrived right ventricular outflow tract. We performed a half-turned truncal switch operation as an alternative surgical procedure in a 3-year-old boy (weighing 9.6 kg) with this anomaly. Postoperative echocardiography showed laminar flow through straight and nonobstructive aortic and pulmonary ventricular outflow tracts.
Hydraulic analysis in a dam that has a single outlet of water can be made through a simple comparison between the total precipitation and the volume of discharged water. In case of tailing dams this estimation could yield an error because several drainage facilities are worked independently as well as simultaneously. In this research, a capability of the drainage system in the tailing dam of the old Sangdong Mine was analysed by the means of GIS technic. As a result of this study, it was expected that in the normal working condition of the whole drainage system, the flooding of water over the dam should not occur in spite of the consecutive precipitation during one hour with an intensity of 80.31 mm/hr, a probable precipitation within 100 years. It was, however, revealed that, if the drainage system did not work completely, the water could flood over the dam when the total precipitation reached 251.1 mm.
This study analyzed the features and various applications of Bluetooth beacon technology for utilization in the mining and construction industries. Through a literature survey, the concept and version-specific features of Bluetooth were reviewed, and representative types of the Bluetooth beacon-based service and its real-world applications in other fields were analyzed. Although a few previous studies that used the Bluetooth Classic (the old version of Bluetooth technology) in the mining industry have been reported, no mine site could be found where the Bluetooth beacon technology was utilized. In the construction industry, this study could find a site where the Bluetooth beacon technology was used to improve the haulage works of construction raw materials. Since the Bluetooth beacon technology has low power consumption and is easy to integrate with smartphones, it will be effectively utilized to improve the productivity and safety in the mining and construction industries.
