  • In urban planning and architecture, there has been emerging paradigm of regeneration, taking place of demolishing first, and new development next principle. Retrofit and remodeling, thereby, became important. The purpose of the research in to examine a reused space with new function. The target space was the former slaughterhouse in the ailing district of the Bologna City with ever increasing vandalism and fear caused by empty buildings, which was regenerated into a culturally affluent area, such as cultural facilities including cinema, gallery, art school cluster along with elderly club and child care center nearby. Through this regeneration, more affluent life opportunity was provided for citizens and local residents. This case study shows how old the building and interior space have been transformed to accommodate contemporary needs, while preserving historical features.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the efficiency of the noise reduction measure in the downtown construction. For decades, the life level rise in Korea makes the environmental issues developed the important issues. Specially the noise problems have become the hot issue in the building construction. This study covers the efficiency of the measures, which is used in the construction field to reduce the noise. The case was obtained by Korean E&C company in 2003. It is used as important sources. The results of this study are as follows; the reduction efficiency is higher than that of the old measure. But more efforts are needed to comfort nearby residents.

  • There are about 3,500 people living in the Seoul Dosshouse, including Namdaemun, Dongdaemun, Donui-dong, Changshin-dong, and Yeongdeungpo. The daytime temperature in the Dosshouse is 43 degrees and the indoor temperature is 35 degrees, which is also higher than the surrouding area. Most of them live in one-person the poor strata, where they have been fighting the heat and the summer. The old building is closely located and a 1.5-pyeong room without windows is a hot environment. Water, air-conditioning is difficult or impossible for people who are economically inferior and cannot solve their own solutions. The solution that can be provided by the country is to heat up once or twice a day by fire hose or shelter. However, there are many patients with discomfort, the distance is far, and the effect is insignificant. Therefore, through this experiment by using discarded banner, I would like to suggest a way to solve the summere heat of the Dosshouse.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive an improved method for analyzing old buildings with risk of collapse using public big data. Previous studies on the risk of building collapse focused on internal factors such as building age and structural vulnerability. However, this study suggests a method to derive potentially collapsible buildings considering not only internal factors of buildings but also external factors such as nearby new construction data. Based on the big data analysis, this study develops a system to visualize vulnerable buildings that require safety diagnosis and proposed a future utilization plan.

  • These days, interior construction is performed to prevent the deterioration of old building finishings or to make distinctive designs. In case of interior construction, a construction cost is estimated through basic 2D drawings in the design step. Accordingly, an efficient construction plan and direction is established according to budget. In such a case, construction is dependent on 2D drawings. At that time, a risk can occur easily. This study is aimed at reducing the cost and risk of interior construction by implementing 3D drawings with the use of the visual data of 2D drawings. For accurate analysis, 2D drawings were completed, and then 3D interior construction modeling for various buildings was conducted with the 3D modeling software 3D Max. According to the 3D modeling, it reduced the cost and risk more than 2D drawings based design, and influenced the improvement in the understanding of orderers and workers.

  • Green remodeling of pubic buildings for improving indoor environment and reducing energy consumption is increasingly promoted. The objective of this study is to measure and analyze for wall's thermal performance, thermal transmittance, of existing buildings. The method of this present study refered the ISO 9869-1 and is to measured heat flow, surface temperature of wall, and in/outdoor temperature over 7 days. And it was compared the calculated thermal transmittance with measured one. The measured wall's thermal transmittance value is about two times than the calculated thermal transmittance value.

  • The purpose of the study was to suggest the housing alternatives for the elderly from the viewpoint of aging in place. The study was intended to present the alternatives on the basis of the concept of group home and shared housing. In order to achieve it, first, the concept and characteristics of group home and shared housing were examined. Then, the living conditions of the elderly and the home sharing related needs of them were examined. The subjects were 201 older persons whose age was more than 65 years and lived in detached houses. Results were as follows; 1) It was identified that group home and shared housing were acceptable to the subject aged. 2) The modified group home which consisted of less than 10 individual detached houses and common area was presented as an alternative for the elderly. The individual ones were existing ones which the elderly lived in. The common area included of common kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and living room for about 10 old persons. The common area can be provided by building a new one and remodeling the existing building for other purpose or community center for the elderly. The detached houses which had spare bedrooms can be shared by another old persons. This alternative would be economic and useful to the elderly.

  • Recently, the demand for the dismantling of old industrial complexes has been increasing, and the construction of restoring the dismantled industries to their original natural environment is underway. In this case, the felling method was applied to the explosive demolition method to dismantle a large steel frame structure in an old industrial complex. We used a charging container to cut the steel frame structure that generates a metal jet. The thickness of the thick steel structure in the blasting section was controlled by gouging which a method of digging deep groove by gas and oxygen flame or arc thermal. As a result of the explosive demolition, the steel frame structure collapsed precisely according to the estimated direction. The explosive demolition was completed without causing any damage to the surrounding facilities.

  • Due to the aging of a building, 38.8% (about 2.82 million buildings) of the total buildings are old for more than 30 years after completion and are located in a blind spot for an inspection, except for buildings subject to regular legal inspection (about 3%). Such existing buildings require users to self-inspect themselves and make efforts to take preemptive risks. The scope of this study was defined as the general public's visual self-inspection of buildings and was limited to structural members that affect the structural stability of old buildings. This study categorized possible damage to reinforced concrete to check the structural safety of buildings and proposed a checklist to prevent the damage. A damage assessment methodology was presented during the inspection, and a self-inspection scenario was tested through a chatbot connection. It is believed that it can increase the accessibility and convenience of non-experts and induce equalized results when performing inspections, according to the chatbot guide.
