Effect of Layer-by-Layer (LbL) Encapsulation of Nano-Emulsified Fish Oil on Their Digestibility Ex Vivo and Skin Permeability In Vitro

  • Omega-3 rich fish oils are extremely labile, thus requiring control of oxidation and off flavor development. A recently proposed emulsification method, layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition, was found to be a plausible method to enhance the characteristics of bioactive ingredients, especially lipids. The present work was designed to test the possibility of enhancing the uptake and utilization of omega-3 fatty acids present in fish oil. The bioavailability of nano-emulsified fish oil was monitored in terms of intestinal absorption as well as skin permeability by using the everted intestinal sac model and Franz cell model. The skin permeability and intestinal absorption characteristics was significantly improved by LbL emulsification with lecithin/chitosan/low methoxypectin. Multilayer encapsulation along with nano-emulsification can be a useful method to deliver biologically active lipids and related components, such as fish oil. The protective effect of this tool from lipid oxidation still needs to be verified.

Anatomical and Histochemical Changes in Berries of Piper nigrum L.

  • Anatomical and histochemical changes taking place in Piper nigrum berries during their ripening are described. The important observations on the pericarp are the development of sclereids in the exocarp, a continuous band of oil cells in mesocarp and the wall thickening of the endocarpic cells. The mature seed with a single layer of seed coat, representing the innermost tegment layer, encloses abundant perisperm. The endosperm and embryo are situated laterally at the terminal part of the seed. The perisperm is distinguished into an outer protein-rich zone and inner starch-filled zone. Starch and protein are also deposited in the mature pericarpic tissue. Lipid bodies are seem in the form of oil globules in oil cells.

들기름이 Dimethylhydrazine으로 처리한 쥐에서 대장암의 Biomarker인 지방산조성과 1, 2-Diacylglycerol 및 Eicosanoid 함량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of $\alpha$-Linolenic Acid Rich Perilla oil on Colonic Mucosal Levels of Biomarkers(Fatty Acid Profile, DAG, Eicosanoid) in Colon Carcinogenesis of DMH-Treated Rats)

  • The study was designed to observe the effect of blend fat calculated from the foods consumed in Korean with those of perilla oil, beef tallow and corn oil on colonic mucosal phospholipid fatty acid composition and the levels of TXB2 and diacylglycerol (DAG) which were known as biomarkers for cancer. Male Sprague Dawley rats, at 7 weeks of age, were divided into control and 1, 2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-treated group, and each group was subdivided into four groups. The experimental diets contained one of four dietary fats, blend fat (BF), perilla oil(PO), beef tallow (BT) or corn oil (CO), at 15% (w/w) level. At the same time, each rat was injected with saline for control group or DMH twice a week for 6 weeks to give total dose of 180mg/kg body weight. DMH injection, regardless of the type of dietary fats, significantly increased the levels of PGE2 and TXB2 in colonic mucosal layer compared to control (p<0.01). However, the level of eicosanoids was influenced by the types of dietary fats in both control and DMH group. In control groups, colonic mucosal level of TXB2 was higher in beef tallow group, but lower in perilla oil group compared to that of blend fat (p<0.01). In DMH groups, the level of TXB2 was higher in beef tallow and corn oil groups(p<0.05). The level of PGE2 showed the same trends with TXB2 and beef tallow most significantly increased the level of PGE2. DMH treatment did not influence on tissue fatty acid profile, which was directly reflected by dietary fatty acid composition. Proportions of C18 : 2 in colonic mucosal phospholipid well reflected dietary level of C18 : 2 showing the order CO>BF>PO>BT. The precentage of arachidonic acid(AA) in mucosal phospholipid was the highest by CO adn BT groups and the lowest by PO group. The incorporation of $\alpha$-linolenic acid in colonic mucosal phospholipid in perilla oil group was negatively correlated to the content of AA. Dietary level of C18 : 2 might not be the only controlling factor for the production of eicosanoids in colonic mucosa layer and might function with $\omega$3 fatty acids. The level of DAG was significanlty lower in PO group than that of BT group. Therefore, $\omega$3 $\alpha$-linolenic acid rich perilla oil could be very important dietary sourec in controlling eicosanoid production DAG level in cloln and recommenced to use more often in meal preparation to reduce the risk factor against colon cancer.

초임계조건에서 $CO_2$-PEC9 혼합물의 물성예측을 통한 냉각 열전달특성 연구 (Gas cooling heat transfer coefficient for $CO_2$-PEC9 mixture under supercritical condition)

  • Due to environmental concerns $CO_2$ has been reintroduced as a potential candidate to replace HFCs in refrigeration systems. Oils are always required in a vapor-compression cycle, and thus actual working fluid in the system is $CO_2$-oil mixtures even though the oil concentrations are low at the heat exchangers and the expansion device. The cooling heat transfer coefficients for $CO_2$-oil mixtures under supercritical condition are required to designing of the gas cooler in the $CO_2$ refrigeration system properly. In the present study, the gas cooling heat transfer coefficients for $CO_2$-PEC9 was estimated by using the Gnileinski correlation, and the Kim and Ghajar model through the previous prediction models for the thermo-physical properties of $CO_2$-oil mixture. The Gnileinski correlation was used when the oil wt.% in the mixture is less than 1.0, and for the higher oil concentration the Kim and Ghajar model was applied. The estimated results agree with the experimental results conducted by the Dang et al.

지표변위를 고려한 북극 동토 지역의 자원개발 플랜트 건설 최적 입지 분석: 캐나다 Athabasca 지역의 오일샌드 플랜트 사례 연구 (Analysis of Optimal Locations for Resource-Development Plants in the Arctic Permafrost Considering Surface Displacement: A Case Study of Oil Sands Plants in the Athabasca Region, Canada)

  • 지구온난화로 인해 극지방에 대한 접근성이 높아짐에 따라 석유자원이 풍부한 영구동토 지역에서 자원개발 플랜트 건설의 수요가 증가하고 있다. 동토 지역에서의 자원개발 플랜트 건설 입지는 동토 활성층의 융해와 동결에 기인하는 지표변위가 필수적으로 고려되어야 한다. 그러나 동토의 변위를 고려하여 자원개발 플랜트 건설의 입지를 선정한 연구 사례는 거의 없다. 이 연구에서는 캐나다 앨버타 주의 Athabasca 남부 지역에서 최적의 오일샌드 개발 플랜트 건설 입지를 선정하기 위해 지표변위를 비롯한 다양한 공간정보를 활용하여 계층화 분석(Analytical Hierarchy Process)을 수행하였고, 동토 지역에서의 자원개발 플랜트 건설 활동에 있어 지표변위의 중요성을 논의하였다. 2007년 2월부터 2011년 3월까지 획득된 시계열 ALOS PALSAR 영상에 Small BAseline Subset-Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar 기법을 적용하여 지표변위 속도 정보를 구축하였고, ERA5 재분석 자료로부터 2000~2010년 기간에 대한 평균 기온, 지표온도, 지중온도 정보를 구축하였다. 도로 및 철도와 토지피복 공간정보는 각각 캐나다 연방 통계청과 북미환경협력위원회에서 제공하는 자료를 구축하여 활용하였다. 토지피복, 지표변위, 도로 접근성을 가장 중요한 공간정보로 설정하여 수행한 최적 입지 분석 결과는 2010년 이후 건설된 오일샌드 플랜트 건설지와 비교하여 그 타당성이 확인되었고, 입지 적합도 평가에 대한 지표변위의 민감도는 매우 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 이 연구를 통하여 동토 지역에서 최적의 자원개발 플랜트 건설지를 선정하는데 지표변위가 필수적으로 고려되어야 함이 확인되었다.
