The oil and concentrated protein powder from squid viscera was extracted and recovered by a semi-batch supercritical carbon dioxide ($SCO_2$) extraction system and the degree of oxidation in the extracted oil was measured in order to compare with extracted oils using organic solvents. The degree of storage in treated squid viscera by $SCO_2$ extraction was measured in order to compare with untreated squid viscera. As results obtained, it was found that the auto-oxidation of the oils using $SCO_2$ extraction occurred very slowly compared to the oils by organic solvent extraction. And the treated squid viscera by $SCO_2$ extraction was reached the point of initial rottenness slowly than untreated squid viscera.
Conversion and oil-yield of a used automotive tire sample in supercritical decomposition and extraction for three solvents such as water, 28% ammoina solution and ammonia, were compared. Supercritical extraction with ammonia gave the highest conversion and oil-yield at the same temperature and pressure. In this paper, supercritical ammonia was used as major solvent and tetralin acting as hydrogen-donor, was used as cosolvent. As the amount of tetralin increased, oil-yield was Increased. When a tire sample was extracted by supercritical ammonia, oil-yield was 48.8% at $280^{\circ}C$, 22.3MPa. But when the weight ratio of tetralin to tire sample (weight of tetralin/weight of tire sample) was 5, oil-yield was 61.2% at $280^{\circ}C$ and 22.3 MPa. These phenomena indicate that as radicals produced in supercritical decomposition become stable, the polymerization and the second decomposition of products may be inhibited. Supercritical extraction of a tire sample swollen by tetralin gave high oil-yield although the amount of tetralin was a little.
Objectives : This study was performed to analyze the effective components of essential oil obtained from Yongdamsagantang, which has been efficacious against leukorrhea in gynecologic diseases. Methods : I obtained the essential oils of Yongdamsagan-tang by hydrodistillation extraction method and supercritical fluid extraction(SFE) method, and then I analyzed those by GC/MS(Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrum). Results : 1. The optimum SFE(Supercritical Fluid Extraction) condition was obtained in the following experiment conditions: pressure 200atm, temperature $45^{\circ}C$, duration of extraction 25minutes. 2. With GC(Gas Chromatography) and GC/MS(Gas Chromato- graphy/Mass Spectrum) analysis, I identified 37 compounds in the Yongdamsagan-tang's essential oil obtained through the SFE method. The main compounds were as follows : 3-Methyl-but-2-enoic acid,2,2-dimethyl-8-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H,8H -pyrano[3,2-g]chromen-3-yl ester(49.81%), (Z)-6-Pentadecen-1 -ol(3.19%), (-)-Spathulenol(2.40%). 3. I identified 4 compounds in the Yongdamsagan-tang's essential oil obtained through the hydrodistillation method. The main compounds were as follows : 3-Methyl-but-2-enoic acid, 2,2-dimethyl-8-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H,8H-pyrano [3,2-g]chromen-3-yl ester(2.61%). 4. 3-Methy I-but-2-enoic acid, 2,2-dimethyl-8-oxo-3,4-dihydro-2H,8H-pyrano[3,2-g] chromen-3-yl ester, all were identified in both the SFE method and the hydrodistillation method, but the others were not identified in common. 5. I also conducted an additional test in order to examine the essential oil's antimicrobial action against bacteria. Both MIC(Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations) and MBC(Minimum Bactericidal Concentrations) were $0.125mg/m{\ell}$ against N. meningitidis, however MIC and MBC were $1.0mg/m{\ell}$ in antimicrobial action against 12 different genera of bacteria.
In this study, two supercritical extraction systems of different scale, analytical-scale and lab-scale, were employed to investigate the extraction efficiency of canola oil from canola seeds using supercritical carbon dioxide ($SCCO_2$) as an extraction solvent. The effects of various parameters such as extraction temperature ($40{\sim}80^{\circ}C$), pressure (200~500 bar), particle size, and $SCCO_2$ flow direction on the extraction rate and yield were examined in detail. Triglycerides and fatty acids in the extracted canola oil were analyzed quantitatively by high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography. The solubility values of canola oil in $SCCO_2$ could be calculated from the experimental results. Similar extraction yields were obtained from both analytical-scale and lab-scale extraction systems. The extraction rates obtained under solvent ($SCCO_2$ ) upflow conditions were found to be higher than those of solvent downflow extraction. However, the effect of $SCCO_2$ flow direction on the extraction yield was observed to be relatively insignificant.

Full fat sardine oil is readily extracted with supercritical carbon dioxide($SC-CO_2$) at pressure of 5,000~8,000 psig. and temperature of 50~$80^{\circ}C$. Under these conditions $SC-CO_2$ has the density of fluid and diffusivity of gas. Therefore, equilibrium solubility is readily achieved in a column batch extractor which permits high gas flow rates. The results showed that extraction was higher at the pressure of 6,000 psig. and $60^{\circ}C$. Fish oil extracted with $SC-CO_2$ is lighter in color, smells less and contains less iron and phosphorus than hexane-extracted crude oil from the same sardine oil. Eicosapentaenoic acid($C_{20-5}$) in sardine oil was fractionated at 90.5% by the $SC-CO_2$ extractor with heat exchange.
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of ultrasound on the extraction of oil from canola seeds when supercritical carbon dioxide ($SCCO_2$) was used as an extraction solvent. The ultrasound-assisted $SCCO_2$ extraction were carried out while varying such operating parameters as particle size of crushed canola seed, flow rate of $SCCO_2$, aspect ratio of the extraction vessel, and ultrasound power. The extraction rate decreased with increasing particle size of samples, showing a maximun at a $CO_2$ flow rate of 6.2 L/min. Both the extraction rate and extraction yield increased with a decrease in the aspect ratio of the extraction vessel. For the ultrasoundassisted $SCCO_2$ extraction, the extraction yield was slightly increased when the $CO_2$ flow rate was below 6 mL/min with sample A and B.
This study was conducted to investigate the extraction characteristics including total polyphenol compound content (TPC) and the antioxidative effect of Rumex crispus root extract on commercial corn oil. Extraction yield was increased with extraction temperature but decreased with extraction ratio. No significant differences in aromatics content were found among the extracts prepared with various extraction conditions; extraction ratio, extraction temperature, extraction pH and composition of extractant. Total flavonoid content of the extract was increased with extraction temperature and extraction pH, and highest value of it was found when extractant composition of ethanol in water was 75%. Total polyphenol compound content (TPC) of the extract with 10 fold extraction ratio showed the highest value, but no significant difference in TPC was found with extraction temperature. Reducing power and DPPH (${\alpha}$,${\alpha}$-diphenyl-${\beta}$-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging ability (RSA) of the extract in spectrophotometric absorbance were decreased with extraction ratio but increased with extraction temperature and showed 63.1%~98.4% and 67.6%~86.7% of those of ascorbic acid in reducing power and DPPH RSA, respectively. The antioxidative effects of the extract on corn oil were 84.8~93.0% of that of commercial butylated hydroxytoluene, the antioxidant index value was highest when the ethanol composition to water in extractant was equal ratio.
Histochemical distribution and varietal variation of schizandrin and oil compounds, and the changes of their extraction yield were investigated in fruits of collected Schizandra chinensis including Inje cultivar. In histochemical analysis on the distribution of schizandrin and oil in fruits of Inje cultivar, higher concentrations of them were found in the seed (1.01% and 27.6%, respectively) than in the epicarp and mesocarp of the whole fruit. Average contents of schizandrin in fruits and oil in seeds of collected lines were 0.84% and 27.9%, respectively. The mean composition of fatty acids in seeds oil was 3.6% of palmitic acid, 0.6% of stearic acid, 19.7% of oleic acid, 73.0% of linoleic acid, and 3.1% of linolenic acid, showing high composition(95.8%) of total unsaturated fatty acid. Oil extracted from seeds of Inje cultivar contained 4.29% of schizandrin, indicating that seed oil contained much schizandrin, a bioactive lipid-soluble compound. Compared with 80% methanol extraction in fruits and seeds, yields of schizandrin and oil were lower showing 23.8% and 17.3%, respectively in boiling water extraction of the fruits and seeds without grinding. The seeds soaked with water during four months contained 1.18% of schizandrin and 25.2% of oil, whose contents were similar to those of the seeds stored at room temperature. These results demonstrated that the seed in the whole fruit could be utilized as a source to extract its functional oil and bioactive lipid-soluble compounds like schizandrin, especially after using Schizandra fruits for the beverage manufacture.
Extraction of phytoncide oil from korea pine cone waste without damaging the pine cone tree itself was investigated using a steam distillation method. Also various components in the extracted phytoncide oil were separated using a column chromatography method. The extraction of phytoncide oil was effectively proceeded, and the maximum production yield of phytoncide oil could be obtained under $100^{\circ}C$ of distillation temperature and within 30 minute of distillation time. According to chemical analysis, it was found that the phytoncide oil from korea pine cone waste was consisted of more than 12 components such as ${\alpha}$-pinene, ${\beta}$-pinene, D-limonene, as main components. In addition, the aqueous hydrogel containing other components such as verbenone, ${\alpha}$-terpinieol, fenchol, different from components of phytoncide oil itself could be obtained through the steam distillation.

In order to predict thermodynamic performance of refrigeration system, it is required to know the oil concentration of the refrigerant/oil mixture. The current method to measure the oil concentration is to extract the working mixture and then to measure the oil weight. However, it is Quite necessary to estimate oil concentration without any extraction of the working fluid. In this study a new method and working equation is presented as follows. It is based on the measurement of spedific gravity and temperature : $$C=a+b{\times}t+c{\times}t^2+(d+e{\times}t+f{\times}t^2){\times}SG$$ C is oil concentration, t is temperature($^{\circ}C$), SG is specific gravity of mixture and a~f is coefficients. The oil concentration ranges over 0~12 wt% and the temperature ranges over $20{\sim}50^{\circ}C$. The specific gravity and temperature are measured using the on-line densimeter and thermometer. This working equation enables to predict the oil concentration without any extraction of the mixture. This equation can be applied for R-12/Naphthenic oil and R-134a/POE oil oiquid mixtures.
