Oil-fired power plant usually uses several burners and combustion air is supplied to each burner through the complicated duct which is called windbox. A windbox should be designed to supply combustion air to each burner uniformly but, due to the complicated duct shape, flow distribution in the windbox is unbalanced and non-uniform supplies of combustion air are induced by these unbalanced flows in the windbox. These flow patterns tend to make flame unstable, increase the formation of pollutants and lower the overall combustion efficiency. To prevent these disadvantages, flow patterns in the windbox should be investigated for the uniform flow distribution. In this study, computational simulation method was used to investigate the flow distribution in a windbox and measured the velocities at the exit of burners in a real windbox and model tests to compare with CFD results. The results show two significant flow patterns. One is that the flow rates of each burner are different from each other and this means that all burners operate in different conditions of air to fuel ratio. The other is that the flow distribution at the exit of each burner is not axi-symmetric although the burner shape is axi-symmetric. Additionally some modifications of windbox shape and installation of baffles were proposed to make the uniform flow in the windox.

The temperature of vertical pump bearing metal in the pumped storage power plant has been high enough to shutdown the unit. Attempts such as decreasing the oil supply temperature, increasing the bearing oil gap etc. were performed to resolve the problem, but the issue was not resolved. Finally, the high bearing metal temperature was corrected by adjusting the bearing preload. The preload is formed by the oil wedge between the journal surface and bearing pad surface and the degree of preload is determined by the machined radial clearance, assembled radial clearance, rotor journal diameter etc. This paper focuses on the analysis of the preload depending on the bearing parameters and the result of the modification of the bearing following the analysis. The bearing metal temperature dropped as much as $20^{\circ}C$ which was similar as expected by software calculation. But the shaft vibration could increase when the assembled radial clearance is excessive. So, the adjustment of the bearing preload for the tilting pad type journal bearing should be carefully performed.

Electro-Rheological(ER) fluids change their apparent viscosity according to the electric field strength. Therefore, there are many practical applications using the ER fluids. ER effect on the dispersive system of polarizable fine powder/dielectric oil has been investigated. The electrical and rheological properties of starch based ER fluid were reported. Yield stress of the fluids were measured on the couette cell type rheometer as a function of electric fields, particle concetrations, and temperatures. The electric field is applied by high voltage DC power supply, The outer cup is connected to positive electrode(+) and the bob becomes ground(-). And the temperatures the viscosity(or shear stress) versus shear rates were measured. In this experiment shear rates were increased from 0 to 200s$^{-1}$ in 2 minutes. This thesis presents Bingham properties of ER fluids subjected to temperature variations. The temperature dependence of the viscosity was determined for ER fluids consisting of 35 weight % starch particles in automatic transmission oil.
The premature failure of a servovalve used for six months in a thermal power plant has been analyzed. The servovalve was made of stainless steel, containing 16Cr-0.44Mo, along with other elements. An overload of oil-supply pumping and an abnormal increase in the oil flux were observed during operation. A study revealed that erosion and corrosion could be the main causes of the failure. The visual examination of the servovalve did not show any appreciable damage. However, corrosion and erosion of the servovalve were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Upon examination of the servovalve, the corrosion was found to have occurred throughout the bushing and spool; however, erosion occurred at only the edge-side. In addition, the condition of the electrohydraulic control system (EHC) oil was investigated with respect to its satisfaction of the management standard.
The trend and outlook of energy supply and demand have an crucial effect on not only energy sector but also korean economy due to the rapid change of energy environments with continuous high oil price such as dubai crude oil price of above $60 a barrel. Specifically, korea is the 9th largest energy consuming nation in the world and the 97 percentages of energy import totally depends on the import of energy resources in korea. Korean economy is influenced directly by the trend and outlook of world energy on account of that. Moreover, Should korea be the annex 1 country having responsibility for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2000, in 2013, The effectuation of united nations framework convention on climate change will affect korean economy severely. In this study, we analyze the supply and demand of primary energy resources such as petroleum, coal, and natural gas. we then suggest the optimal alternatives of energy technology development that play an important part, which will be a temporary bridge, in going forward with hydrogen economy in the aspects of energy policy.
An experiment was conducted to compare the effect of the same amount of 18:2 offered either as 18:2n-6 or as a mixture of unprotected 18:2c9t11 and 18:2t10c12 on feed intake, milk components as well as plasma and milk fatty acid profile. Fifteen cows were blocked by milk yield and milk fat percentage and within block assigned randomly to 1 of 3 treatments (n = 5). Each cow passed a 12-d adjustment period (AP) on a basal diet. After the AP cows received 1 of 3 supplements during an 18-d experimental period (EP). The supplements contained either 1.0 kg ground sunflower seeds (S), 0.5 kg conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)-oil (C) or 0.75 kg of a mixture of ground sunflower seeds and CLA-oil (2:1; SC). All 3 supplements contained the same amount of 18:2 either as CLA (${\Sigma}18$:2c9t11+18:2t10c12, 1:1) or as 18:2c9c12. During the last 2 d of AP and the last 4 d of EP feed intake and milk yield were recorded daily and milk samples were collected at each milking. Blood samples were collected from the jugular vein on d 11 of AP and d 15 and 18 of EP. The 18:2 intake increased in all treatments from AP to EP. Regardless of the amount of supplemented CLA, the milk fat percentage decreased by 2.35 and 2.10%-units in treatment C and SC, respectively, whereas in the treatment S the decrease was with 0.99%-unit less pronounced. Thus, C and SC cows excreted daily a lower amount of milk fat than S cows. The concentration of trans 18:1 in the plasma and the milk increased from AP to EP and increased with increasing dietary CLA supply. While the concentration of 18:2c9t11 and 18:2t10c12 in the plasma and that of 18:2t10c12 in the milk paralleled dietary supply, the level of 18:2c9t11 in the milk was similar in C and CS but still lower in S. Although the dietary concentration of CLA was highest in treatment C, the partial replacement of CLA by sunflower seeds had a similar inhibitory effect on milk fat synthesis. Comparable 18:2c9t11 levels in the milk in both CLA treatments implies that this isomer is subjected to greater biohydrogenation with increasing supply than 18:2t10c12. The fact that unprotected 18:2t10c12 escaped biohydrogenation in sufficient amounts to affect milk fat synthesis reveals opportunities to develop feeding strategies where reduced milk fat production is desirable or required by the metabolic state of the cow.

The depletion of conventional oil reserves and the increasing energy need in developing countries such as China and India result in exceeding oil demand over supply. As a solution of the problem, the efficient utilization of heavy oil has been receiving more and more interest. In order to utilize heavy oil, upgrading processes are required. Among the upgrading processes, thermal decomposition is thought to be relatively simple and economical. In this study, to understand basic characteristics of thermal decomposition of heavy oil, we conducted pyrolysis experiments of deasphalted oil (DAO) produced by a solvent deasphalting process. DAO is a mixture of many components and consists mainly of materials of carbon number 20~40. For the comparison with results of DAO pyrolysis, additional pyrolysis experiments with single materials of carbon number 30 ($C_{30}H_{62}$, $C_{30}H_{58}O_4S$, $C_{30}H_{63}O_3P$) were conducted. Pyrolysis experiments were carried out non-isothermally with variation of heating rate (10, 50, $100^{\circ}C$/min) in a thermogravimetric analyzer. Average pyrolysis activation energy determined by using Arrhenius method, Ingraham and Marrier method, and Coats and Redfern method was 72~99 kJ/mol. In the activation energy calculated by Ozawa-Flynn-Wall method, DAO had wider variation than other single materials.
Since two oil crises in the 1970s, Korea has actively engaged in overseas E&P projects to increase energy diversity as well as its self-development rate of energy resources. Korea's energy self-development rate, an index that indicates the ratio of resources acquired through overseas development compared to direct imports. Currently, Korea is conducting a total of 180 promising overseas oil development projects in 36 countries as of the end of 2010. By now, it has secured a reserve of around 1.63 billion barrels and production of around 176 thousand barrels of oil per day. The self-development rate for oil rose from 2.8% in 2006 to 7.4% in 2010. Not content with these remarkable successes, the korean government is planning to raise its self-development rate in oil to 25% by 2019, by promoting the active participation of Korean companies in overseas oil development projects. This paper is concerned with estimation of the required amount of government subsidies that includes loans and financial support through state-controlled banking institutions in order to reach the target 25% rate by 2019. The estimation results shows that government subsidies of at least 268 million dollars are needed for the current rate of 7.4% in oil. However, the amount sharply increases up to 1.25 billion dollars in 2019 when domestic oil demand rises to 1.02 billion barrels.
This study was designed to investigate the effect of different sources of $\omega$3 fatty acid in the diet with a similar polyunsaturated/saturated (P/S) fatty acid ratio and $\omega$6/$\omega$3 fatty acid ratio as well as excess DHA on the plasma fatty acid composition and cholesterol level of rats. Three experimental diets contained 10% (w/w) dietary lipids. The control diet and one treatment diet were corn oil-based diets with different $\omega$-3 fatty acid sources: perilla (CO) or fish oil (CF), respectively. In order to examine the effect of excess DHA, the other treatment diet (FO) was a fish oil-based diet with corn oil to supply essential fatty acids at the level of 1.8% (w/w) of the diet. Female Sprague Dawley rats were fed the experimental diets for 2 weeks prior to mating and throughout gestation and lactation. Pups were weaned to the same diet of dams at 21 days of age. Plasma fatty acid compositions and cholesterol contents were analyzed for pups at 3th, 7th and 10th week after birth. Plasma DHA concentrations increased significantly as the level of fish oil supplementation increased. Three-, seven- and ten-week old rats fed on CO diet which contained only $\alpha$-lino1enic acid as a $\omega$-3 fatty acid Source had Plasma DHA levels of 4.85%, 3.15% ana 2.47%, respectively, suggesting that rats at this period of development can convert $\alpha$-linolenic acid to DHA. But the ability to form DHA might be limited, since dietary DHA showed to be more effective in raising the plasma level of DHA. There was a significant negative correlation between DHA and cholesterol concentration of the rat plasma at 7th week (r=0.34, p<0.05) and l0th week after birth (r=036, p<0.05), proving the hypocholesterolemic effect of DHA.
Objectives : The glial cell, located in between the blood vessel and nerve cell, takes charge of the cell support, nutrition supply, elimination of body waste, and cell action. GagamSohabhwangwon(GGSH), a chinese traditional medicinal prescription has been used orally for the treatment of seizures, infantile, convulsion, stroke and so forth. This paper examines the effect of the GagamSohabhwangwon(GGSH) essential oil on cell activity and anti oxidation. Methods : MTT assay methods were employed to measure the cell activity based on the amount of the GagamSohabhwangwon(GGSH) essential oil by using primarily cultivated glial cell. In addition, this paper measured a viability of the glial cell after a protein active retarder control to confirm the multiplication of the cell and examined the cell extinction by the active oxygen, an extinction shielding effect with different amount of the GagamSohabhwangwon(GGSH) essential oil to observe anti oxidation. Furthermore, this paper measured a viability of the cell and phosphorylation(phosphorylation) of the protein which affects the multiplication of the glial cell. Results : When controlling the amount of the GagamSohabhwangwon(GGSH), there was a multiplication effect of the primary glial cell, the multiplication of the cell was dependent on the density of the GagamSohabhwangwon. The multiplication power of the primary glial cell was suppressed by PKA inhibiter (H89). In compliance with the active oxygen the extinction of the primary glial cell was dependent on the density of the GagamSohabhwangwon, there was a shielding effect of the cell extinction when GagamSohabhwangwon(GGSH) was preprocessed. When inducing the multiplication of the primary glial cell, phosphorylation of the Akt, BDNF, CREB, ERK and ERM were increased. Conclusions: Based on the results, GagamSohabhwangwon essential oil will have the effect which activates the nervous system cell and protects the cell through anti oxidation.
