By using the offshore type submersible platform, Artificial sea floor anchored at a depth of forty meters several experimental studies have been conducted successfully during 1996. The facility consists of an artificial sea floor that floats at 7 meters below the surface, a machinery hut that projects above the surface at the center of the structure and a balance weight beneath the structure. The facility can be surfaced easily by using a water discharging pump in the water tank which is located at the center of it. To find out the behavioral character and the gathering factor of fishes around the artificial sea floor, investigations were carried out during the daytime and nighttime by direct observation and by echo-sounder. Around the testing reefs and artificial sea floor, six kinds of fishes were found by diving observation and the dominants were Scomber japonicus, Sebastes thompsoni and Oplegnathus fascitus. As Scomber japonicus was distributed around the artificial sea floor in dense small school, they were not seen elsewhere in the survey area. The artificial sea floor was concluded to act as a schooling ground far Scomber japonicus, Sebastes thompsoni and Oplegnathus fascitus. were close to the testing reefs(within 10m) in the daytime, and were thought to settle on the testing reefs at nighttime, To examine the distribution of 7shes around the artificial sea floor, an acoustic survey over a 1$\times$1km area, 0-50m in depth during the all day. Around the artificial sea floor many thin scattering fish echo(TS-54.5~ -51.5dB) and dense fish echo(TS-41~-38dB) were mainly distributed. Many scattering fish echoes, which were thought to be a mixture of small squid, pelegic crustacea and ethers, were distributed over the whole survey area. A dense fish school stayed beneath the artificial sea floor for a short duration. These phenomena were concluded to show an attraction and detention function of the artificial sea floor.

Sea-eels caught by fishing boat and trawl were analyzed to investigate feeding status and individual growth of sea-eels caught from the lost plastic sea-eel Pot which is estimated at the ghost fishing Average length of sea-eel caught from fishing boat and test fishing was 33.6cm, 48.9cm for trawl and 45.6cm for the lost plastic sea-eel pot, respectively. The length frequency distribution is the same as the fact that sea-eel goes to the offshore from the coastal waters according to the getting growth. Sea-eel rate having empty stomach were 5.0% for fishing boat, 4.2% for trawl and the empty stomach rate of sea-eel was the highest as 87.6% in the lost pot. Sea-eel rate feeding fish as prey were 98.7% for fishing boat, 78.8% for trawl and 63.3% for the lost pot, respectively and other preys were crustacean and cephalopod. Fatness index calculated using weight and length were 1.514 for trawl catches and 1.292 for the lost pot and the difference was 15% between trawl catches and the lost pot. There also was difference at the 5% significance level in the result of t-test of Covariance Analysis.

System grounding is applied to the neutral point of a power source to secure the from any abnormal voltage and/or grounding fault. System grounding, which is applied mainly in ships is an ungrounded and resistance grounded system. Vessels using the MV power system with 3.3kV, 6.6kV, and 11kV mainly adopt a high resistance grounding system among the resistance grounding systems. The ground fault accounts for 95% of all faults occurring in the electrical system and when a fault occurs, the line-to-ground voltage of the power system is increased excessively, which adversely affects the onboard insulation system. This study analyzed the variation characteristics of the line-to-ground voltage neutral point according to the degree of ground fault in a resistance ground system applied in vessels. For this purpose, the characteristics of the grounding system were first explained, and the modeling of the neutral point potential of the line-to-ground voltage of the resistance grounding system in the vessels was derived. Finally, this study examined how the line-to-ground voltage, line voltage, and neutral point change according to various variable environments through MATLAB simulations.
Vertical distribution of eggs and larvae of Maurolicus muelleri were studied in the south-eastern waters of Korea during 1985 and 1986. Samples were collected vertically at three different layers, 0~30 m, 30~50m and 50~100m. The densities of egg and larva were high in August. Eggs and zooplankton were abundant around the thermocline in the temperature range of $10{\sim}15^{\circ}C$ at the layers of 50 m depth in 1985, and 30~100m depth in 1986. Eggs in the cleavage stage were abundant at the layer of 50~100m depth, while those of processing embryonic body formation were tended to concentrate at the layer of 30~50m depth. The vertical distribution of each developmental stage differed according to sampling time. They were distributed uniformly at water column from 30 m to 100m depth in the midnight, but concentrated at the layer from 30 m to 50 m from dawn to sunset. Before and after midnight, eggs in the cleavage stage were most abundant. It was assumed that M. muelleri spawned at the layer of 50~100m depth around the midnight, and the eggs ascended to the layer of 30~50m depth with development.
We investigated species composition and spatial distribution of the euphausiid community in the Yellow Sea and identified the relationship with environmental factors (temperature, salinity, chlorophyll $\alpha$, nitrate, phosphate, and silicate) using bimonthly data from June, 1997 to April, 1998. The environment varied during the sampling period. In warm seasons, thermocline was well developed rendering lower temperature and higher salinity and nutrient concentrations in the bottom layer. During cold seasons the water column was well mixed and no such vertical stratification was noted. Horizontal distribution of temperature, however, differed slightly between near-coast and offshore areas because of the shallow depth of the Yellow Sea, and between southern and northern areas because of the intrusion of water masses such as Yellow Sea Warm Current and Changjiang River Diluted Water. Four euphausiid species were identified: Euphausia pacifica, E. sanzoi, Pseudeuphausia sp. and Stylocheron affine. E. sanzoi and S. affine were collected, just one juvenile each, from the southern area in June and December, respectively. Pseudeuphausia sp. were collected in the eastern area all the year round except June. E. pacifica occurred at the whole study area and were the predominant species, representing at least 97.6% of the euphausiid abundance. Further, the distribution pattern of the species was varied in regards to developmental stages (adult, furcilia, calyptopis, egg). From spring to fall, E. pacifica adults were abundant in the central area where the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water prevailed. Furcilia and calyptopis extended their distribution into nearly all the study area during the same period. From late fall to winter, adults were found at the near-coastal are a with similar pattern for furcilia and calyptopis. The distribution pattern of E. pacifica was consistent regarding temperature, salinity, and three nutrients during the sampling period, whereas chlorophyll $\alpha$ showed a different pattern according to the developmental stages. The nutrients should indirectly affect via chlorophyll $\alpha$ and phytoplankton concentration. With respect to these results, we presented a scenario about how the environmental factors along with the water current affect the distribution of E. pacifica in the Yellow Sea.
The abnormal low water temperature phenomenon of the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water in summer, 1981 is studied on the basis of the oceanographical data collected by the National Fisheries University of Pusan in July, 1981 and Fisheries Research and Development Agency of Korea from 1960 to 1981 and meteorological data within the same 22 years. In winter, 1980 the northwesterly monsoon was vary predominant and the air temperature was lower than that of mean year by 1∼8$^{\circ}C$ and also the surface temperature was lower 1∼3$^{\circ}C$. And then the temperature of the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water in summer, 1981 became lower 2∼3$^{\circ}C$ than that of mean year and the influence of this cold water was extended to about 50 miles off the coast of Cheju Island. Comparing with mean year, the water temperature at 30m depth in February, 1981 was lower by 1∼2$^{\circ}C$ in entire regions except near sea of Sohuksando and at 50m depth in August, 1981, it was lower by about 3.5$^{\circ}C$. Particularly, the offshore of Hongdo shower value of 5$^{\circ}C$ than that of mean year. It was found that the abnormal low water temperature phenomenon of Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water in summer, 1981 resulted from the sea surface cooling by the predominant northwestly monsoon and abnormally low air temperature in winter, 1980.
To investigate the relationships between ocean environmental characteristics and thechange of the catch, we analyzed various environmental factors such as mean temperature, salinity, current vectors, lunar day and wind vectors from 1995 to 1996 and the catch fluctuation of Hanlim set net from 1994 to 1996. The results are as follow ; 1) The proportion of fishes caught in Hanlim set net is highest for horse mackere1 ($69.2\%$) and is followed by common mackerel ($18.4\%$), hair tail ($5.6\%$), squid ($2.7\%$) and rabbit fish ($1.4\%$) in order. Two peaks in the monthly catch appeared in June and October in the operation period of May- December. 2) The flow direction was northward in flood time and southeastward in ebb time around the Hanlim set net. Thus, the vortical mixing of sea water was active and continued for more than 3 hours. In addition, mean daily temperature was low due to the presence of middle and bottom water in offshore. Increase in salinity or high salinity of sea water provides a favorable condition for catches of fishes. Catches in the first quarter and the last quarter of the moon were larger than that in full moon and the last of the month. In particular, when south or southeasterly wind velocity reaches about 3$\~$6.5 m/s, the possibility of catches increases.
The community structure and micro-scale distribution of plankton in relation to hydrography were investigated in Masan Bay, Korea in October 1989. Warmer and less saline waters with stratification was located in the inner part of the Pudo Strait, and chlorophyll-a and nutrients were higher. Both phytoplankton biomass and nutrients was changed dramatically around the Strait. Offshore/oceanic species in phytoplankton i.e., Chaetoceres decipiens, Rhizosolenia stolterforthii, Rhizosolenia styliformis and Ceratium trichoceros and zooplankton i.e., Sagitta enflata, Oncaea uenusta and Oikopluera longicaudata occurred mainly in well mixed waters of the outer part. This suggests that discontinuous layer seems to play an important role as an approximate border for the plankton population. This layer was located between Station 3 and Station 4 near the Pudo Strait, since the layer consisted of a series of micro-scale discontinuties of salinity and dissolved inorganic nutrients gradient. Phytoplankton patchs of more than 801e1 were found only in the inner part of the bay. Depletion of silicate caused by a rapid assimilation of phytoplankton in the inner part of the bay seemed to be responsible for the decline of blooms.
Based on the data collected by R/V "Shinkai Maru" of the Japan Marine Fishery Resources Research Center during the period from April 1978 to April 1979, seasonal migration of Merluccius hubbsi was studied using the catch per fishing effort (tons/30 min. haul) and gonad maturity index (gonad weight /body weight X $10^3$). Merlurccius hubbsi are found in the area between $36^{\circ}S\;and\;54^{\circ}S$ along the coast of Arzentine and are abundant especially above the 100 fathoms in northern offshore of $48^{\circ}S$. It was observed that critical maturity body lengths (spawning minimum body length) in terms of gonad maturity index are 40 cm and 30cm in female and male respectively, while spawning seasons are from December to January and from November to December for female and male respectively. It was assumed that while the group which distrbutes in the north ($36^{\circ}S{\sim}39^{\circ}S$) in spring moves down south to $42^{\circ}{\sim}46^{\circ}S$ for spawning in summer (from December to January), the group which does not move or a part of this group which comes back to the north spawn in the area north of $42^{\circ}S$ throughout the long period except winter time (from July to August). Southern group as well might move north and spawn after mixing together with northern group at $42^{\circ}{\sim}46^{\circ}S$ area around the period of December to January,

Escape behaviour of the anchovy (Engralius japonica, total length 4-7cm) at the inside wing net and bag net in the anchovy boat seine was observed by underwater video camera in order to clarify the relationship between visual stimulus of the gear or relative water flow inside gear and reacting behaviour. The vertical attenuation coefficient of underwater illuminance in the offshore of Keoje island and Tongyoung was ranged from 0.24 to 1.03 and it could be affect visual range and visual contrast of the fishing gear. The relative water flow at the joint part between inside wing and bagnet while towing was 1.5 times higher than at the middle part of inside wing or fore part of bag net, but it was estimated under than maximum swimming speed of 4-7 cm anchovy. The mean escaping number of anchovy from end part of inside wing of 30 cm mesh to out side for a minute within visual range of video camera was 455 and anchovy swimming forward from bag net through flapper was 308. These results revealed anchovy could escape as voluntary response in spite of higher visual stimulus or higher water flow.
