  • Translational research (TR) as high quality research can accelerate collaboration strongly between biotechnology-based researchers and clinical-research experts for overcoming diseases. TR facilitates basic science translated to clinical efficacy and effectiveness from bench (basic science) to bedside (clinical practice) for the enhancement of human health. Disease-oriented TR programs were defined as unilateral, bilateral and multilateral TR in this patent performance analysis. Patent performance was measured in a R&D project on Health and Medical Technology to enhance the productivity of R&D investment on disease-oriented TR in Health Technology (HT). Patent Map (PM) analysis and Bibliometrics were conducted to collect information for the assessment of research patents of TR programs. Futhermore, PIAS (Patent Information Analysis System) and Thinklear programs were applied for quantitative and qualitative analysis successfully. These indicate that multi-dimensional analysis of patent performance for disease-oriented TR could promote the connection of R&D-IP (Research and Development-Intellectural Property) and R&BD (Research and Business Development) supporting system significantly.

  • This paper describes a proposed performance criteria and evaluation procedures for transmission system planning in Korea. Performance criteria of the transmission system are expected to be used as a guideline for investment into a transmission network. Moreover, performance evaluation procedures, which are based on current practices and widely accepted theories, are suggested to achieve fair and acceptable results.

  • Interest has increased in academic research regarding key factors that drive box-office success as well as the ability to predict the box-office success of a movie from a commercial perspective. This study analyzed the relationship between key success factors of a movie and box office records based on movies released in 2010 in Korea. At the pre-production investment decision-making stage, the movie genre, motion picture rating, director power, and actor power were statistically significant. At the stage of distribution decision-making process after movie production, among other factors, the influence of star actors, number of screens, power of distributors, and social media turned out to be statistically significant. We verified movie success factors through the application of a Multinomial Logit Model that used the concept of choice probabilities. The Multinomial Logit Model resulted in a higher level of accuracy in predicting box-office success compared to the Artificial Neural Network and Discriminant Analysis.

  • This study is to provide the measures of the reduction which can improve the business efficiency of the office workers of construction company through the analysis of the status of their job stress. The important results obtained through this study are as follows. Firstly, the research on impact factor of job stress showed the performance appraisal and responsibility for business performance are the most stressful factors. Secondly, the research on the problems of activities for stress reduction carried out in the current workplace showed that the most office workers indicated the deficiency of financial investment and exploration of ideas related to the activities and insufficiency of public relation of activities.

  • In Korea, there are many attempts to automate architectural design tasks, focusing on government-led national R&D projects and private operators, in order to enhance global competitiveness and productivity of the building service industry. However, according to a survey of architectural design office practitioners, only 25% (9 out of 37) have used it, suggesting that there are fewer cases of practical use in the field compared to research and investment in automation technology development, and there are discrepancies between automation and technology development items required in the field. In this study, the priority of automation of planning and design work of architectural design office practitioners is derived, and a comparative analysis is conducted with domestic architectural design automation service items based on the priority. A survey was conducted on practitioners of domestic architectural design offices to derive automation priorities for 19 items of architectural planning and design work. Based on the derived priorities, the degree of reflection of the working-level automation needs of domestic services was confirmed by comparing them with the domestic architectural planning and design automation service items. As a result, it was confirmed that domestic architectural planning and design automation services did not properly reflect the priority of planning and design work automation of architectural design office practitioners. This suggests that it is necessary to reflect the priorities derived in this study in technology development in order to increase the cases of practical use of the automation technology in the working environment and improve the productivity of service.

  • The paper investigates the determinants of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam in 2000-2019 period. This study uses difference Generalized Methods of Moments (GMM) and Pooled Mean Group (PMG) to analyse panel data officially provided by General Statistical Office of Vietnam. The results show that market size impacts positively significant on FDI attraction: 1% -1.45% (PMG) and 1% -1.25% (GMM). Besides, some other factors have positive influences as labor force, macroeconomic policy, macroeconomic stability and skilled labor. Meantime, the trade openness negatively affects FDI inflows in the short-term, while not being statistically significant in the long-term. Moreover, economic shocks often have a negative impact on FDI inflows. The findings of this study lead to the following recommendations. First, authorities should pay special attention to encourage economic growth rate in Vietnam to expand market size because this is the first priority of foreign investors. Second, authorities need to continue increasing the rate of skilled labor, especially highly qualified management force, engineers and well-skilled workers. Third, the authorities should adjust trade openness to boost the role of its determinant in attracting FDI inflows. Fourth, macroeconomic stability needs to be governed by international standards in order to secure the belief of foreign investors in the long-term.

  • This paper examines the impacts of credit on income inequality in Vietnam. Though it is one of the most common measures of financial development, there is a dearth of research in this area. Unlike previous studies, the paper disaggregates the impact of each type of credit on income inequality, looking at the Gini coefficient. We employ the Generalized Method of Moment (GMM) to solve the endogenous problem. The primary data set contains a panel of 60 Provincial observations, from data collected from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam from 2002 to 2016. The empirical findings show that, while commercial credit increases income inequality, policy credit contributes to reducing income inequality in Vietnam. The results also confirm the important roles of education, institutional quality and foreign direct investment in fighting against income inequality in Vietnam. However, the paper does not provide adequate evidence to support the inverted U-shaped relationship between credit and income inequality. Based on the findings, we argue that the government should direct flows of credit to real economic activities rather than speculative investment; more bank credit should be allocated to rural areas and agriculture; and favorable credit programs should be designed to promote education, especially of those living in rural areas.

  • The R&D investment of Korean government has been concentrated into 6T areas-IT(Information Technology), BT(Bio-Technology), NT(Nano Technology), ET(Environment & Energy Technology), ST(Space Technology) and CT(Culture & Contents Technology) - for a couple of years. By this selection and concentration strategy, patent applications are on an increasing trend in these areas. This paper examined the trends of patent application in 6T areas. To do this, this paper classified each technology area into the detail technology area with the valid number of patent applications. According to the result, the analysis data will be used to make R&D budget appropriation of the government.
