In this study, the electronic power steering control system was developed and it was carried out to investigate experimentally the effect of the steering force for the on-road and off-road. The electronic power steering control system was engineered new trend system of power steering control system for tractor. It was composed of the electronic controller, detector, motor and mechanism mounted on tractor chassis. It was tested at the field in condition of tractor traveling speed 0 km/h, 3 km/h, 8 km/h, 11 km/h, 15 km/h, 18 km/h, 22 km/h, 25 km/h for measuring a maximum steering force. As a speed of tractor increased, a steering force decreased regardless of on-road or off-road. In addition, it is sufficiently a possibility of application of the steering system of tractor.
To meet the Tier-4 emission standard, a variety of combustion technology in the field of off-road engine has been applied in conjunction with the engine after treatment technology. In this study, as the basis study for applying VGT and HPL EGR to 3.6 L CRDi engine, exhaust gas characteristics and fuel economy characteristics are confirmed in accordance with VGT and EGR operating conditions. Consequently, in the EGR applicable conditions, 60% VGT vane duty condition was confirmed that the trade-off characteristics between NOx and smoke are advantageous. In addition, in view of BSFC, VGT vane duty is considered desirable to control at around 50%.
The reduction technologies of exhaust gas from both the off-road engine and on-road vehicles are important. It is possible to apply various combustion technologies with engines after the application of a treatment technology to this field. In this study, main injection timing, pilot injection timing, and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) rate were selected as the experimental parameters whose effects on the emission of exhaust gases and on the fuel consumption characteristics were to be determined. In the experiment, the emission of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and Smoke, and the Torque at the same fuel consumption level, were measured. The experimental data were analyzed using the Taguchi method with an L9 orthogonal array. Additionally, analysis of variation (ANOVA) was used to confirm the influence of each parameter. Consequently, the level of each parameter was selected based on the signal-to-noise ratio data (main injection timing, 3; pilot injection timing, 3; EGR rate, 2), and the results of the Taguchi prediction were verified experimentally (error: NOx, 10.3 %; Smoke, 6.6 %; brake-specific fuel consumption (BSFC), 0.6 %).
This paper develops scenarios to evaluate the safety performance of Unmanned Ground Vehicle on military circumstances. The scenarios were created using Pegasus Project 6-layer format. These scenarios consist of straight road, curved road, merging road and crossroad. We adapt these scenarios to unpaved road. The characteristics of unpaved roads were divided into roughness, friction coefficient and road frequency. This adaption is validated via computer simulation. We observe the scan lines of vehicle become tangled of the straight road that make the cognitive abilities of the vehicle low and the lane-keeping is unable when vehicles entering curved off-roads over 40 km/h. The developed scenarios will contribute to enhancing stability from the perspective of introducing autonomous driving technology to Korean military.
A method to recognize unpaved road region using a 3D depth measurement system is proposed for mobile robots. For autonomous maneuvering of mobile robots, recognition of obstacles or recognition of road region is the essential task. In this paper, the 3D depth measurement system which is composed of a rotating mirror, a line laser and mono-camera is employed to detect depth, where the laser light is reflected by the mirror and projected to the scene objects whose locations are to be determined. The obtained depth information is converted into an image. Such depth images of the road region represent even and plane while that of off-road region is irregular or textured. Therefore, the problem falls into a texture identification problem. Road region is detected employing a simple spatial differentiation technique to detect the plain textured area. Identification results of the diverse situation of unpaved trail are included in this paper.
The purpose of this study is the measurement of whole-body vibration for different road surfaces. Experimental measurements were taken on asphalt, cement, and off-road surfaces as defined by ISO 2631-1. Each experiment was conducted under the same set of conditions (measurement duration, times, speed, vehicle type). Measurement duration was 10 minutes and 3 separate measurements were taken on each road surface. Vehicle speed was 60km/h. In accordance with ISO 2631-1, an acceleration sensor is set up between the driver's seat and the human body. For evaluation, RMS(root-mean-square) values were taken as suggested by ISO 2631-1. The results suggest "health guidance caution zones", and the evaluation was based on obtaining the vector sum with "health guidance caution zones".
The off-road tractive performance of tracked vehicles can be evaluated in terms of soil thrust, motion resistance and drawbar pull. The ability to predict accurately ground pressure distribution under track is of importance since the vehicle sinkage and motion resistance are closely related to it. While the formulation of the method for predicting ground pressure distribution follows closely in spirit the ideas outlined for the terrain with linear pressure- sinkage relation case by Garber and Wong, the analysis of various terrain stiffness is magnified by numerical implementation procedure. The effects of soil parameters on tractive forces can be introduced through the terrain-track interaction such as pressure-sinkage and shearing characteristics. It is illustrated by determining the drawber pull-slip relation and corresponding ground pressure distribution for the terrains typically chosen and by comparing the results with the conventional ones based on normal ground pressure. The factorial experiment method is finally adopted for checking the sensitivity of the values of soil parameters on the drawbar pull.
In this paper a power conditioning system suitable for the fuel cell powered off-road vehicle is proposed. The proposed system employs a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell stack combined with boost converter, a super capacitor module combined with hi-directional buck-boost converter, a 4-quadrant DC chopper and a permanent magnet DC motor. The momentary overload condition occurring during the motor starting is handled by the energy stored in the supercapacitor module. Also, the regenerative energy can be stored in the supercapacitor module by operating the system in either buck or boost mode. This capability gives the system designer the higher flexibility in designing the system and assures the lower cost of the system. The validity and feasibility of the proposed system is proven by the computer simulation.
A mathematical model was developed to investigate the mechanical interrelation between soil characteristics and main design factors of a tracked vehicles , and predict the tractive performance of the tracked vehicles. Based on the mathematical model, a computer simulation program(TPPMTV98) was developed in this study. The effectiveness of the developed model was verified by comparing the predicted drawbar pulls using TPPMTV98 with measured ones from traction tests with a tracked vehicle reconstructed for test in loam soil with moisture content of 18.92%(d.b). The drawbar pulls measured by the TPPMTV98 were well matched to the measured ones. Such results implied that the model developed in this study could estimate the drawbar pulls well at various soil conditions , and would be very useful as a simulation tool for designing a tracked vehicle and predicting its tractive performance.
