Basis Mode of Turbulent Flame in a Swirl-Stabilized Gas Turbine using LES and POD

  • Unsteady numerical study has been conducted on combustion dynamics of a lean-premixed swirl-stabilized gas turbine swirl injector. A three-dimensional computation method utilizing the message passing interface (MPI) parallel architecture, large eddy simulation(LES), and proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) technique was applied. The unsteady turbulent flame dynamics are simulated so that the turbulent flame structure can be characterized in detail. It was observed that some fuel lumps escape from the primary combustion zone, and move downstream and consequently produce hot spots. Those flame dynamics coincides with experimental data. In addition, basis modes of the unsteady turbulent flame are characterized using proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) analysis. The flame structure based on odd basis modes is apparently larger than that of even ones. The flame structure can be extracted from the summation of the basis modes and eigenvectors at any moment.

  • In this paper, we have dealt with the design and analysis methods of the frequency charateristics for the power dividers which are extensively used in CATV and DBS(Direct Broadcasting Satellite) systems. The lumped-element circuits have been implemented based on the Wilkinson power divider and the charateristics of the circuits approximated to ideal transformer examined. Then the frequency characteristics are analysised by using even - odd-mode method. Furthermore, in order to improve the charateristics, the optimum design method by adding compensating circuit has been Proposed and it has been shown that the charateristics are improved remarkably.

  • 본 논문에서는 탭 입력 Interdigital Stripline 형태의 군지연 선형화기를 설계하였다. Even 과 Odd mode에 대해 Pole-Zero Method를 적용하여 선형화기를 최적화하는 방법을 제시하였고, 이를 LTCC 기술을 이용하여 제작하기위해 Tap coupling 과 Via, 1/4파장이하의 결합선로 특성까지 고려한 최적화를 수행하여, 2.14GHz에서 160MHz 대역폭에 ${\pm}0.1nS$의 Group delay Variation을 갖는 4단의 선형화기를 설계하였다.

방향성 결합기를 이용한 가변감쇠기의 설계 및 제작에 관한 연구 (A Study on Fabrication of Variable Attenuator Using a Directional Coupler)

  • 본 연구에서는 방향성 결합기의 특성과 PIN다이오드의 특성을 이용하여 가변 감쇠기를 구현하였다. 기존의 Even-Odd Mode해석법이 아닌 간단한 2-port 기법으로 감쇠기를 분석하였으며, 산란 파라미터는 결합포트의 종단 임피던스가 동일한 경우와 동일하지 않은 경우에 있어서의 감쇠기의 동작특성을 평가하였다. 방향성 결합기의 결합포트는 가변종단을 HP사의 전류제어 소자인 HSMP-3864 PIN다이오드를 사용하였다. 구현된 가변감쇠기는 PCS 송신주파수 1.9 GHz에서 감쇠 범위가 30 dB 이상, 삽입손실 5 dB 이하, 입·출력 반사계수 -25 dB 이하의 특성을 나타내었으며, 이는 PCS와 셀룰러 이동통신 기지국용 전력 증폭기를 온도 등과 같은 외부의 환경변화에 따라서 이득을 가변 시킬 수 있으며, 또한 증폭기의 선형성을 향상시킬 것으로 사료된다.

  • Asymmetrical parallel coupled lines are used in a number of circuits such as multi-band coupler and combline type band pass filter. Although graphical results and formulas are available for the design of coupled lines, the design procedure is hard to use, because even- and odd- mode impedances are always expressed in terms of the physical geometry. In this paper, we introduce a method to find design parameter using finite element analysis. By employing the capacitance obtained by FE analysis, design parameters for each lines are extracted. To show the validity of extracted design parameter for asymmetrical parallel coupled line, we have designed and simulated a planar type combline band pass filter.

  • In this paper, we have designed a small size lumped/distributed hybrid element directional coupler using parallel coupled-line theory. a hybrid lumped equivalent circuit for a conventional parallel directional coupler is proposed. The equivalent circuit and design formula for the presented lumped element coupler are derived based on the even- and odd-mode properties of a parallel-coupled line. By using the derived design formula, we have extracted design parameters and designed the 3㏈ and 10㏈ small size lumped element directional couplers at the center frequency of 2Ghz. Excellent agreements between design theory and simulation on the designed directional couplers show the validity of this paper.

  • In this paper, a novel lumped equivalent circuit for a conventional parallel directional coupler is proposed. The equivalent circuit and design formula for the presented lumped element coupler is derived based on the even-and odd-mode properties of a parallel-coupled line. By using the derived design formula, we have designed the 3㏈ and 10㏈ lumped element directional couplers at the center frequency of 100Mhz. Furthermore, a chip type directional coupler has been designed to fabricate with multilayer configurations by employing the Low Temperature CofiredCeramic (LTCC) process. Designed chip-type directional coupler has a 10㏈-coupling value at the center frequency of 2㎓. Excellent agreements between simulations and measurements on the designed directional couplers show the validity of this paper

Design of an extremely miniaturized branch-line coupler

  • In this paper, a new size-reduction approach for branch-line coupler is introduced which uses parallel end-shorted coupled lines with lumped capacitors. The characteristic of the new design was analyzed using even-odd mode method, and simulated on HFSS before fabricated on the FR4 epoxy glass cloth copper-clad plat (CCL) PCB substrate at center frequency of 1 GHz. The electrical length of transmission line was reduced to 15 degrees, therefore the size of branch-line coupler was largely reduced approximately maintaining the same characteristic around the stable center frequency. The insertion loss of the branch-line coupler filter was -4.39 dB. The size of the overall hybrid is $20mm{\times}20mm$. Measurements results were well agreed with the simulated ones.

  • A wavelength filter based on a polymer Bragg reflector has received much attention due to its simple structure and wide tuning range. Tilted Bragg gratings and asymmetric Y-branches are integrated to extract the reflected optical signals in different directions. To optimize device performance, design procedures are thoroughly considered and various design parameters are applied to fabricated devices. An asymmetric Y-branch with an angle of $0.3^{\circ}$ produced crosstalk less than -25 dB, and the even-odd mode coupling was optimized for a grating tilt angle of $2.5^{\circ}$, which closely followed the design results. Through this experiment, it was confirmed that this device has a large manufacturing tolerance, which is important for mass production of this optical device.

  • In this paper, a $\lambda/4$ hairpin resonator is proposed to reduce the size of planar resonators for a LTCC MLC bandpass filter. The $\lambda/4$ hairpin resonator operates as stepped impedance resonator (SIR) without changing the width of the planar resonator. It is composed of two sections those are parallel coupled line and transmission line. The characteristic impedance of two sections is different each other. The design formulas of the bandpass filter using the coupling element at the arbitrary position are derived from even and odd-mode analysis. The formulas can take account of the arbitrary coupling of lumped ana/or distributed resonators. The advantage of this filter is its abilities to change freely the coupling structure between two resonators. Experimental bandpass filters for 2.4GHz Band are implemented and their performances are shown.
