  • SEA method have been developed for prediction sound radiation power from vibration of machinery. In this study, sound radiation power was predicted from coupled structures by transmission of vibration, which composed of two plates welded at right angle. The predicted sound radiation power is agreement within 2 or 3 dB on octave band comparing with values obtained from direct measurements. Also, in order to prove the validity of this method in changes of sound radiation power associated with modifications to structures, rubber pad stuck on a plate. This result is agreement approximately within 3 or 5 dB.

  • The sound absorption coefficient of glass wool (bulk density of 48 kg/$m^3$ and 32 kg/$m^3$) was measured by reverberation room method as varying their cross-sectional area. The results show that the absorption is larger for smaller samples because of edge effect. The absorption coefficient with two different kinds of sources, 1/3-octave band and white noise, gives similar values.

  • To get minimum noise level by making full use of the constrained geometric space and being compatible with the minimum pressure-drop condition, 3-pipe through-flow system is designed by inserting a new pipe which is shaped a resonator in the cavity of 2-pipe system. As a result of the 1/3-octave-band frequency analysis for the noise reduction characteristics, this system is proved to have good sound attenuation effect in the high frequency region, so that it is found to be a useful component of a muffler.

  • In this paper, the correlation between the vibration characteristics of the track components and the parameters affecting the vibration is analysed. To do it, the accelerations of each track component such as rails, sleepers and ballast are measured in Kyong-Bu high-speed line. The RMS values of the measured data are calculated and the pad stiffness, the longitudinal irregularity, running velocity and the corrugation, are considered as the parameters in the viewpoint of track. By using the linear regression, the correlation coefficient is calculated to analyse the relationship. Also, the 1/3 Octave analysis is calculated to analyse the dominant frequency band of tile vibrations of the track components.

  • The binaural auditory system of human has the capability of differentiating the direction and distance of sound sources. This feature is well characterised in terms of the inter-aural intensity difference (IID), the inter-aural time difference (ITD) and/or the spectral shape difference (SSD) arising from the acoustic transfer of a sound source to the outer ears. This paper proposes an effective way of extracting the three sound perception factors (IID, ITD, SSD) from the head-related transfer functions (HRTF's) that depends on the direction and distance of the acoustic source from the listener. It includes the estimation method of the equivalent ITD and 1/3-octave band-based IID factors and their usage to locate a sound source in space. Subjective and objective tests were carried out to examine the effectiveness of the proposed methodology and its applicability to real sound systems. Those experimental results are illustrated in this paper.

  • For analog optical transmission of narrow-band microwave signal, a novel all-optical linearization technique of electro-absorption (EA) optical modulator by using dual modulation scheme is proposed and theoretically investigated. By using the dual modulation scheme where the sub-modulator has a different length, DC bias and band-gap wavelength, the DC bias operation point where the third-order intermodulation products of ~30dB and the following increase of spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) of ~20dB wave achieved in sub-octave narrow band operation.

  • Recently, due to various environmental problems, blast tracks in tunnel are replaced with concrete tracks, but they have more adverse effects on noise than blast tracks so that additional noise measures are needed. Among these measures, sound-absorbing blocks start to be used due to its easy and quick installation. However, the performance of sound absorption blocks need to be verified under real environmental and operational conditions. In this paper, interior noise levels in KTX train cruising in Dalseong tunnel are measured before and after the installation of sound-absorbing blocks and the measured data are analyzed and compared. Additionally, noise reduction are estimated by modeling the high speed train, the tunnel and absorption blocks. Measurement devices and methods are used according to ISO 3381 and the equivalent sound pressure levels during the cruising time inside the tunnel are computed. In addition to overall SPLs(Sound Pressure Levels), 1/3-octave-band levels are also analyzed to account for the frequency characteristics of sound absorption and equipment noise in a cabin. In addition, to consider the effects of train cruising speeds and environmental conditions on the measurements, the measured data are corrected by using those measured during the train-passing through the tunnels located before and behind the Dalseong tunnel. Analysis of measured results showed that the maximum noise reduction of 6.8 dB (A) can be achieved for the local region where the sound-absorbing blocks are installed. Finally, through the comparison of predicted 1/3-octave band SPLs for the KTX interior noise with the measurements, the understanding of noise reduction mechanism due to sound-absorbing blocks is enhanced.

  • The heavy-weight floor impact sound field of the receiving room in a testing building with bearing wall structure was investigated using bang machine and impact ball. The sound field was investigated through the impact sound pressure level distribution by the field measurement and computational analysis. Predicted sound field using the computational analysis agree with measurement result in the low frequency band. Result shows that standard deviations of the single number rating value are about 2dB in each impact source. Particularly, impact sound pressure level at 120cm height in 63Hz octave band was 5dB lower than spatial averaging value. It was found that receiving positions in the ministry of construction and transportation notice should be reconsidered.

  • This experimental study describes the propagation characteristics of the impulse noise emitted from the exit of a straight pipe attached to the open end of a simple shock tube. The sound pressure level and directivity of the impulse noise propagating from the exit of pipe with several different diameters are measured in the far sound fold for the range of the incident shock wave Mach number between 1.07 and 1.26. The experimental results showed that the peak values of impulse noises had a strong dependance on the exit diameter of a pipe and the shock wave Mach number. The impulse noise had the directivity propagating toward to the pipe axis and the characteristics of inverse square law of propagation distance. Moreover, it was shown that the one-third octave band SPL of impulse noise was almost constant regardless of the frequency band.

  • This paper describes Active Noise Control (ANC) using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) Domain Least Mean Square (LMS) Method. DWT-LMS is one of the transform domain input decorrelation LMS and improves the convergence speed of adaptive filter especially when the input signal is highly correlated. Conventional transform domain LMS's use Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) because it offers linear band signal decomposition and fast transform algorithm. Wavelet transform can project the input signal into the several octave band subspace and offers more efficient sliding fast transform algorithm. In this paper, we propose Wavelet transform domain LMS algorithm and shows its performance is similar to DCT LMS in some cases using ANC simulation.
