비디오 영상 기반의 해운대 해빈 변동특성 (Variation Characteristics of Haeundae Beach using Video Image)

  • In this study, we analyzed the real time video image obtained from the video monitoring system to grasp the shoreline, beach width, and area change of Haeundae beach. The video monitoring techniques enabled continuous monitoring for a long period at a much lower cost than general survey methods. It was possible to grasp quantitative beach variation characteristics of Haeundae beach through image acquisition, rectification, and image processing of video images. According to the monitoring results, the erosion rate of Haeundae beach in spring and summer was -19.8% in 2014 and -6.7% in 2015. The erosion rate in 2016 was -6.4%, which showed that the erosion rate in spring and summer continued to decrease. In particular, the influence of the erosion at the time of typhoon CHABA was revealed to be smaller than in the past. It can be concluded that these variations were due to beach width expansion by beach nourishment and the installation of submerged breakwaters.

  • As the world energy consumption grows, the interest in marin energy resources is increasing. In excavating such resources, the marine riser which connects the floating structure and sea bed is an essential device. The riser system is often exposed to harsh ocean environment and thus vulnerable to damage. Since the failure of the riser system may cause serious economical loss as well as environmental problem, the structural integrity of the riser is very important. Generally, the riser is an extremely slender structure with a much smaller diameter than a length. Therefore, a structural integrity monitoring methodology for typical buildings and bridges may not be applicable. In this paper, the applicability of a damage identification method for a structure to a marine riser is examined via a numerical example. Also, recent research practices and findings for monitoring the behavior and the structural integrity of the marine riser are examined and summarized.

Autonomous smart sensor nodes for global and local damage detection of prestressed concrete bridges based on accelerations and impedance measurements

  • This study presents the design of autonomous smart sensor nodes for damage monitoring of tendons and girders in prestressed concrete (PSC) bridges. To achieve the objective, the following approaches are implemented. Firstly, acceleration-based and impedance-based smart sensor nodes are designed for global and local structural health monitoring (SHM). Secondly, global and local SHM methods which are suitable for damage monitoring of tendons and girders in PSC bridges are selected to alarm damage occurrence, to locate damage and to estimate severity of damage. Thirdly, an autonomous SHM scheme is designed for PSC bridges by implementing the selected SHM methods. Operation logics of the SHM methods are programmed based on the concept of the decentralized sensor network. Finally, the performance of the proposed system is experimentally evaluated for a lab-scaled PSC girder model for which a set of damage scenarios are experimentally monitored by the developed smart sensor nodes.

  • From the 1978 Seasat synthetic aperture radar(SAR) to present systems, spaceborne SAR has demonstrated the capability to image the Earth's ocean and land features over broad areas, day and night, and under most weather conditions. The application of SAR for surveillance of commercial fishing grounds can did in the detection of illegal fishing activities and provides more efficient use cf limited aircraft or patron craft resources. In the area of vessel traffic monitoring for commercial vessels, Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) which uses the ground-based radar system has some difficulties in detecting moving ships due to the limited detection range cf about 10 miles. This paper introduces the field testing results of ship detection by RADARSAT SAR imagery, and proposes a new approach for a Vessel Monitoring System(VMS), including VTS, and SAR combination service.

Vision-based technique for bolt-loosening detection in wind turbine tower

  • In this study, a novel vision-based bolt-loosening monitoring technique is proposed for bolted joints connecting tubular steel segments of the wind turbine tower (WTT) structure. Firstly, a bolt-loosening detection algorithm based on image processing techniques is developed. The algorithm consists of five steps: image acquisition, segmentation of each nut, line detection of each nut, nut angle estimation, and bolt-loosening detection. Secondly, experimental tests are conducted on a lab-scale bolted joint model under various bolt-loosening scenarios. The bolted joint model, which is consisted of a ring flange and 32 sets of bolt and nut, is used for simulating the real bolted joint connecting steel tower segments in the WTT. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed vision-based technique is evaluated by bolt-loosening monitoring in the lab-scale bolted joint model.

  • The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) is under development to provide a monitoring of ocean-color around the Korean Peninsula from geostationary platforms. It is planned to be loaded on Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) of Korea. The GOCI has been designed to provide multi-spectral data to detect, monitor, quantify, and predict short term changes of coastal ocean environment for marine science research and application purpose. The target area of GOCI observation covers sea area around the Korean Peninsula. Based on the nonlinear radiometric model, the GOCI calibration method has been derived. The nonlinear radiometric model for GOCI will be validated through ground test. The GOCI radiometric calibration is based on on-board calibration devices; solar diffuser, DAMD (Diffuser Aging Monitoring Device). In this paper, the GOCI radiometric error propagation is analyzed. The radiometric model error due to the dark current nonlinearity is analyzed as a systematic error. Also the offset correction error due to gain/offset instability is considered. The radiometric accuracy depends mainly on the ground characterization accuracies of solar diffuser and DAMD.

Application of High-spatial-resolution Satellite Images to Monitoring Coral Reef Habitat Changes at Weno Island Chuuk, Micronesia

  • We present quantitative estimations of changes in the areal extent of coral reef habitats at Weno Island, Micronesia, using high-spatial-resolution remote sensing images and field observations. Coral reef habitat maps were generated from Kompsat-2 satellite images for September 2008 and September 2010, yielding classifications with 78.6% and 72.4% accuracy, respectively, which is a relatively high level of agreement. The difference between the number of pixels occupied by each seabed type was calculated, revealing that the areal extent of living corals decreased by 8.2 percentage points between 2008 and 2010. This result is consistent with a comparison of the seabed types determined by field observations. This study can be used as a basis for remediation planning to diminish the impact of changes in coral reefs.

부유식 해상관측시설의 파랑중 운동 및 표류력 해석 (Analysis of Motion Response and Drift Force in Waves for the Floating-Type Ocean Monitoring Facilities)

  • 본 연구에서는 부유식 해상관측시설의 파랑중 운동응답 및 표류력 해석을 위해 Green 적분방정식에 기초한 3차원 수치해법을 개발하였다. 본 방법에서는 소오스분포와 더브렛분포를 함께 사용하였으며, 판요소로는 3각형 요소와 4각형 요소를 병행 사용하였다. 불규칙파수 현상을 제거하기 위해 개량된 적분방정식 해법을 적용하였으며, 시간평균 표류력의 계산은 원인별 성분파악이 가능한 물체표면 직접적분법을 사용하였다. 개발된 전산 프로그램의 검증을 위해 비교자료가 있는 구형 부유체에 대한 계산이 수행되었고, 이에 대한 계산을 통해 개발된 프로그램으로부터 신뢰성있는 결과를 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다. 실제시설에 대한 적용예로서 직경 2.6m 흘수 3.77m인 원통형 해상관측용 부이에 대한 계산을 수행하여 그 운동특성 및 표류력 특성을 고찰하였다. 운동응답 해석결과는 공진주파수를 설치해역의 파랑 탁월주파수 범위밖에 놓이도록 부이의 형상과 치수를 조정하는데 활용할 수 있고, 또 이들 계산을 통해 댐퍼 등의 설치효과도 미리 예측할 수 있다. 또한, 계산된 표류력은 황천중에서 계류계에 걸리는 최대하중을 예측하는데 이용할 수 있으므로 계류계의 설계에 있어 중요한 기초자료로 활용된다. 본 수치해법은 원칙적으로 대상 부유체의 형상에 제약을 받지 않으므로 향후 다양한 형상의 부유식 해상관측 시설들의 설계 및 설치$\cdot$운용에 폭 넓게 적용할 수 있다.

Vibration-Based Monitoring of Stay-Cable Force Using Wireless Piezoelectric-Based Strain Sensor Nodes

  • This study presents a method to monitor cable force using wireless sensor nodes and piezoelectric sensors. The following approaches are carried out to achieve the objective. Firstly, the principle of piezoelectric materials (e.g., PZT) as strain sensors is reviewed. A cable force estimation method using dynamic features of cables measured by piezoelectric materials is presented. Secondly, the design of an automated cable force monitoring system using the data acquisition sensor-node Imote2/SHM-DAQ is described. The sensor node is originally developed by University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is adopted in this study to monitor strain-induced voltage from PZT sensors. The advantages of the system are cheap, and eligible for wireless communication and automated operation. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed monitoring system is evaluated on a lab-scaled cable.
