Studied was impact assessment of sea dike construction in Saemankeum. To represent complexity of the geometry and topography of the region a flexible finite grid system are adopted. Combined fine and coarse meshes based on automatic mesh generator were applied in pre-processing. A nonlinear periodic finite element model. TEANL, was implied in this analysis, which gave good results compared to the observed data. It was predicted that the front region of dike connecting Shinsi-Karyeok-Daehang-Pyunsan will behave as a closed rectangular bay with wide width, which may affect significantly to the circulation and dispersion mechanism in the region.

The Coanda effect is the phenomenon of a fluid jet to stay attached to a curved surface; when a jet stream is applied tangentially to a convex surface, lift force is generated by increase in the circulation. The Coanda effect has great potential to be applied practically applied to marine hydrodynamics where various lifting surfaces are being widely used to control the behavior of ships and offshore structures. In the present study, Numerical simulations and corresponding experiments were performed to ascertain the applicability of the Coanda effect to a horn-type rudder. It was found that the Coanda jet increases the lift coefficient of the rudder by as much as 52% at a jet momentum coefficient of 0.1 and rudder angle of $10^{\circ}$.
In this paper a Vortex Lattice Method is used to predict the performances of a contra-Rotating Propeller. Greeley and Kerwin's(1982) wake model is adopted instead of the exact trailing vortex geometry. The interaction of the two propellers is treated by the sense that the induction of one propeller upon the other propeller is averaged in the circumferential direction . Two single propellers (DTRC 4119 & DTRC 4842) are chosen and compared with the experimental and other numerical results published. Then the computational results for three CRP's (4-0-4 CRP(DTRC 3686+DTRC 3687A) 4-0-5 CRP(DTRC 3686+DTRC 3849) & DTRC CRT(DTRC 5067+DTRC 5068) are compared with the experimental and numerical results published. The interaction of both propellers by the change of inflow velocity and circulation of each propeller is investigated.
The dispersion of surface oil is generally described as a break-up of oil slick into small oil droplets. These small droplets are subjected to turbulence and vertical circulation so that it can be entrained into subsurface. Sometimes they tend to be submerged into sea bottom permanently. The diameter of oil droplets is a critical parameter to determine their behavioral characteristics under water surface. At the same time the variations of droplet stability depends on the weathering of it. That is why the weathered oil has different mechanism from the unweathered one. The variability of physical properties of oil including viscosity and density contribute to interfere with effective separation of oil and emulsion droplets in water. Also in the presence of interactions among the droplets there are coalescing or coagulating effects on the dispersion process of droplets.

The purpose of this study is to find a variation in traveling patterns of soil and soil diffusion due to construction of the sea dike in Saemangum coastal sea region. Water circulations are calculated diagnostically from the observed water temperature, salinity and wind data, and tidal residual current. Three-dimensional movements of injected particles due to currents, turbulence and sinking velocity are tracked by the Euler-Lagrangian method. Calculated a variation in traveling patterns of soil and soil diffusion due to construction of the sea dike deposited mostly from estuarine area of the Geum River to Gokunsan coastal sea region. This results are believed to be the combined effect of coastal circulation.

The Tartar Strait currents of different scales are analysed using results of observations and modeling. The paper focuses on tidal phenomena and general circulation features. It is shown that the areas of maximal tidal currents are located in the regions of stable boundary streams. The stability of the streams under different meteorological conditions and energy concentration in the small areas may be explained by non-linear effects of tide over rough bottom topography.

Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) is one of the key players in greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction portfolio for mitigating climate change. CCS makes it possible not only to reduce a huge amount of carbon dioxide directly from coal power plant but also to maintain the carbon concentrated-energy infrastructure. The objective of the present paper is to review and introduce R&D progress and large scale demonstration plan focused on marine geological storage in Republic of Korea.
In order to understand phytoplankton and bacterial distribution in tropical coral reef ecosystems in relation to the mangrove community, their biomass and activities were measured in the sea waters of the Chuuk and the Kosrae lagoons located in Micronesia. Chlorophyll a and bacterial abundance showed maximal values in the seawater near the mangrove forests, and then steeply decreased as the distance increased from the mangrove forests, indicating that environmental conditions for these microorganisms changed greatly in lagoon waters. Together with chlorophyll a, abundance of Synechococcus and phototrophic picoeukaryotes and a variety of indicator pigments for dinoflagellates, diatoms, green algae and cryptophytes also showed similar spatial distribution patterns, suggesting that phytoplankton assemblages respond to the environmental gradient by changing community compositions. In addition, primary production and bacterial production were also highest in the bay surrounded by mangrove forest and lowest outside of the lagoon. These results suggest that mangrove waters play an important role in energy production and nutrient cycling in tropical coasts, undoubtedly receiving large inputs of organic matter from shore vegetation such as mangroves. However, the steep decrease of biomass and production of phytoplankton and heterotrophic bacteria within a short distance from the bay to the level of oligotrophic waters indicates that the effect of mangrove waters does not extend far away.

In order to investigate the initial stage of deep water formation between Vladivostok and the subpolar front in the East Sea, the factors, temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, measured by multi-ship surveys in ]969 have been used. Deep water formation in the .cast Sea occurs in essentially two different forms: near continent and open ocean formation. The position of eddy derived from potential vorticity matches well with that of deep water formation. The vertical and horizontal distributions of potential vorticity, geostrophic current, temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen give clues for the preconditioning phase qf open ocean formation like a doming of isotherm, associated with a cyclonic circulation.
The areas consisting of frost susceptible soils in cold regions, such as the Arctic area, have problems of frost heave and thaw settlement due to the seasonal air temperature changes and internal temperature of installed structures. Ground stabilization methods for preventing frost heave and thaw settlement of frost susceptible soils include trenching, backfilling and thermo-syphon. The thermo-syphon is the method in which refrigerant can control the ground temperature by transferring the ground temperature to atmosphere in the from of two-phase flow through the heat circulation of the internal refrigerant. This numerical study applied the function of these thermo-syphon as the boundary condition through user-subroutine coding inside ABAQUS and compared and analyzed the temperature results of laboratory experiments.
