The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the number of occlusal contacts in centric occlusion. The 50 strictly selected subjects, who have good natural dentition and occlusion, were impressioned with Alginate Impression material, and dental stone models were madel. After transfering the models from mouth to Hanau Articulator Model H2 by means of SM type Face-Bow, condylar guidances were registered, red articulating papers($13{\mu}$ in thickness) were inserted between upper and lower posterior teeth, and the red marked points and lines were counted as occlusal contact points. 1. The number of occlusal contact points in centric occlusion were 1st Molars 2nd Molars, 2nd Premolars and 1st Premolars in order. 2. The number of occlusal contact points of right side showed comparatively much more than those of left side. 3. The number of occlusal contact points of upper in Premolar area were much more than those of lower, and in Molar area were the reverse. 4. The total number of occlusal contact points in centric occlusion were approximately 105 points.
Background : Even though there were developments in various treatment techniques for acute arterial occlusion this disease still has high rate of mortalities and limb amputations. We investigated the combined diseases symptoms location of occlusion type of treatment complication and prognosis in our patients. Meterial and methods: This study recruited 48 patients(42 men, 6 women, mean age 57.7 years) who received the operation from January 1995 toDecember 1998. We investigated the post-operation course via medical record review or telephone interview with patients or their family members. Result: The most common combined diseases were atherosclerosis in 30 patients. other diseases were 17 diabetes mellitus 16 hypertension and 12 atrial firillation. Pain and clod sensation were noticed in all patients paresthesia in 5 patients fibrillation. Pain and cold sensation were noticed in all patients paresthesia in 5 patients and lower extremity paralysis in 11 patients. In 29 patients the time interval from the onset of symptom to admission was over 72 hours and 15 patients were admitted within 24 hours. The distribution of arterial occlusion location was at 28 femoral arteries 14 popliteal arteries and 6 iliac arteries. All the patients were received embolectomy and 5 patients were received additional bypass grafting. Postoperative complications were 12 reocclusions. 6 compartment syndromes 6 skin necrosis and 2 acute renal failure. The mortality rate was 16.7%(8/48) and the amputation rate was 25% Conclusion : This study revealed 25% reocclusion 25% limb amputation and 16.7% mortaliyt. To improve the prognosis of acute lower extrements arterial occlusion early diagnosis and understand the underlying diseases prompt treatment and operation additional operation including interventional radiologic examination and thorough postoperative care would be appreciated.
PURPOSE. To study the distribution of various occlusal schemes as well as associated static occlusal relationship among Thais. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The subjects'occlusal schemes on the left and right sides were classified as canine protected occlusion, group function, or unclassified according to the definition from Glossary of Prosthodontic Terms ($8^{th}$ edition). In addition, the presence of occlusal interferences during mandibular excursions were recorded. The measurement of the horizontal overlap and vertical overlap was also performed. Chi-square, One-way ANAVA and Mann-Whitney U statistical tests were used with level of significance set at P=.05. RESULTS. Total of 104 subjects were included in this study. The ratio for male to female was 1.8 to 1. Average age of the population was $25.01{\pm}6.87$ years old. The mean vertical overlap and horizontal overlap were $1.94{\pm}1.20$ and $2.41{\pm}1.32$ mm respectively. The majority of the populations (68.3%) possessed group function occlusal scheme. For the remaining, 17.3% possess canine protected occlusion and 12.5% possess combination of both occlusal schemes. We also found that occlusal interference was presented in 20.2% of the population. The most common was protrusive interference (57.14%), the second was balancing interference (38.1%) and the third was working interference (4.1%). CONCLUSION. Among Thais, the most common occlusal scheme was group function, however there were no significant occlusal factors related to any particular occlusal scheme.
Objective : This study was performed to investigate the protective effect of Stephania tetrandra(ST) against ischemic brain damage after a middle cerebral artery(MCA) occlusion. The effect was evaluated using histological tests, neurobehavioral tests, and biochemical tests. Methods : Rats(Sprague-Dawley) were divided into four groups : sham operated group, MCA occluded group, post MCA occlusion Stephania tetrandra administrated (7.6mg/l00g) group, and normal group. The MCA was occluded by intraluminal method. Stephania tetrandra was administrated orally twice at 1 and 4 hours after MCA occlusion. The neurobehavioral test was performed at 3, 6, 9 and 24 hours after MCA occlusion by posture reflex test and swimming behavioral test. All groups were sacrificed then. The brain tissues were stained with 2% triphenyl tetrazolium chloride(TTC) or 1 % cresyl violet solution, to examine infarct size, volume and cell number. Tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$ level was measured from sera using Enzyme-Linked Immunoabsorbent Assay(ELISA). The mRNA expression level of inflammatory cytokines and related receptor type I and II, $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6, and IL-10 6hours after MCA occlusion were also studied by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction(RTPCR). Results : The results showed that : Stephania tetrandra (1) reduced infarct size and total infarct volume by 52.2% compared to the control group; (2) attenuated significantly in neuronal death, which was shown by a decrease in cell number(P<0.01) and size(P<0.01) in the boundary area of the infarction; (3) significantly reduced serum $TNF-{\alpha}$ level, and increased the mRNA level of IL-10 in the cortex region(P<0.01). However, there was no significant effect on motor deficit in swimming behavioral test. Conclusions : In conclusion, Stephania tetrandra has protective effects against ischemic brain damage at the early stage of ischemia.

Purpose: The aim of this retrospective study was to determine the association between dental implants in the posterior region and traumatic occlusion in the adjacent premolars, using data collected during from 2002 to 2015. Methods: Traumatic occlusion in the adjacent premolars was assessed by examining clinical parameters (bleeding on probing, probing pocket depth, fremitus, and tooth mobility) and radiographic parameters (loss of supporting bone and widening of the periodontal ligament space) over a mean follow-up of 5 years. Clinical factors (gender, age, implant type, maxillary or mandibular position, opposing teeth, and duration of functional loading) were evaluated statistically in order to characterize the relationship between implants in the posterior region and traumatic occlusion in the adjacent premolars. Results: The study inclusion criteria were met by 283 patients, who had received 347 implants in the posterior region. The incidence of traumatic occlusion in the adjacent premolars was significantly higher for splinted implants (P=0.004), implants in the maxillary region (P<0.001), and when implants were present in the opposing teeth (P<0.001). The other clinical factors of gender, age, and duration of functional loading were not significantly associated with traumatic occlusion. Conclusions: This study found that the risk of traumatic occlusion in the adjacent premolars increased when splinted implants were placed in the maxillary molar region and when the teeth opposing an implant also contained implants.

Background: Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) has recently gained popularity as an adjunct to resuscitation of patients with traumatic shock. However, the effectiveness of REBOA is still debated because of inconsistent indications across centers and the lack of medical records. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness and feasibility of REBOA by analyzing clinical results from a single center. Methods: This study included 96 patients who underwent REBOA between August 2016 and September 2021 at a regional trauma center according to the center's treatment algorithm for traumatic shock. Medical records, including the time of the decision to conduct the REBOA procedure, time of operation, type of aortic occlusion, and clinical outcomes, were collected prospectively and analyzed retrospectively. Patients were classified by REBOA protocol (group 1, 2, or 3) and survival status (survivor or non-survivor) for analysis. Results: The overall success rate of the procedure was 97.9%, and the survival rate was 32.6%. In survivors, blood pressure was higher than in non-survivors both before the REBOA procedure (p=0.002) and after aortic occlusion (p=0.03). The total aortic occlusion time was significantly shorter (p=0.001) and the proportion of partial aortic occlusion was significantly higher (p=0.014) among the survivors. The non-survivors had more acidosis (p<0.001) and higher lactate concentrations (p<0.001) than the survivors. Conclusion: REBOA may be a feasible bridge therapy for resuscitation of patients with traumatic shock. Prompt and accurate decision-making to perform REBOA followed by damage control surgery could improve survival rates and clinical outcomes.
Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the effects of Semen Persicae(SP) on muscle type change and vascularization effect by measuring expression of Myosin heavy chain (MHC) and Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) protein in the Middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAo) rats. Methods : The middle cerebral artery was occluded, SP extraction was administrated for 4 days. The effects of SP on muscle type change and vascularization were measured. Results : 1. VEGF protein expressions in the Semen Persicae oral administration group of MCAo group were increased compared to the control group. 2. There were no significant difference between the Semen Persicae oral administration of MCAo group and the control group in MHC isoform (Type I, Type IIa) expression change. Conclusions : The present study demonstrates the effect of Semen Persicae in the vascularizing after ischemia, but has no significant effect in musle type change and the improvement of musle atrophy.
Faces of normal occlusion, open bite and class III malocclusion were measured using cephalogram in 190 male and female subjects. Using M.K.G., types of mandibular movement, amount of horizontal and vertical movement were studied in relation to occlusal types, and were compared with each other. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. Movement of protrusion was most different in relation to occlusal type. 2. In normal occlusion, maximal protrusion were horizontal 7.66mm, vertical 3.01mm in male, 6.41, 2.92mm respectively in female and maximal inferior position were -24.32, 33.63mm in male,-23.48, 32.27mm respectively in female. 3. Angle between maximal inferior position and horizontal plane were $53.51^{\circ}$ in male, $53.84^{\circ}$ in female. 4. Generally, amount of mandibular movement was greater in male than female. 5. In open bite, path of protrusion was nearly straight without curve $69.2\%$ in male, $70.2\%$ in female. 6. In class III malocclusion, angle and amount of protrusion were smaller than normal occlusion and path was directed anterior-superiorly in $22.7\%$. 7. There was no correlation coefficient between measurement of face and mandibular movement.

To gain insight into the etiological mechanism of dementia and to develop clinically effective congnitive enhancers, it is required to prepare animal models with symptoms and mechanism resemble to that in human. Dementia is mainly classified into two types : senile type of Alzheimer's disease (STAD) and cerebral ischemia-induced one. As animal models of cerebral ischemia, a couple of types in rats have been introduced : one is the occlusion of bilateral carotid arteries-induced forebrain/global ischemia and the other is the occlusion of middle cerebral arteries-induced focal/regional ischemia.

In this study, 37 subjects with normal facial shape and normal occlusion are classified and reference value for such classification was investigated. Difference in position of maxillary incisor was studied according to the cl assification. Moreover, by investigating correlation between factors affecting forehead morphology and positio n of maxillary incisor, following results have been obtained. 1. Morphology of forehead can be classified as angular type, round type, straight type, and concave type. 2. There were no specific reference value for evaluation of forehead morphology but possibilities of evaluating forehead morphology using S value and forehead length (Tri-Gla) still remain. 3. There were no correlation between forehead morphology and position of maxillary incisor. 4. Forehead inclination and Andrew analysis show statistically significant negative correlation. That is, as forehead inclination increases, maxillary incisor is positioned posteriorly and this relationship can be shown as following equation, Andrew analysis = -0.39*Forehead inclination.
