Hexagon-Based Q-Learning Algorithm and Applications

  • This paper presents a hexagon-based Q-leaning algorithm to find a hidden targer object with multiple robots. An experimental environment was designed with five small mobile robots, obstacles, and a target object. Robots went in search of a target object while navigating in a hallway where obstacles were strategically placed. This experiment employed two control algorithms: an area-based action making (ABAM) process to determine the next action of the robots and hexagon-based Q-learning to enhance the area-based action making process.

  • In this paper, we used a laser range finder (LRF) to detect both the static and dynamic obstacles for the safe navigation of a mobile robot. LRF sensor measurements containing the information of obstacle's geometry are first processed to extract the characteristic points of the obstacle in the sensor field of view. Then the dynamic states of the characteristic points are approximated using kinematic model, which are tracked by associating the measurements with Probability Data Association Filter. Finally, the collision avoidance algorithm is developed by using fuzzy decision making algorithm depending on the states of the obstacles tracked by the proposed obstacle tracking algorithm. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated through experiments with the experimental mobile robot.

  • A novel approach is developed for avoidance of obstacles in unknown environment. This paper proposes a new way of intelligent autonomous wheelchairs for the handicapped to move safely and comfortably. It is the objective of this paper to develop delayed time fuzzy control algorithms to deal with various obstacles. This new algorithm gives the benefit of the collision free movement in real time and optimal path to the moving target. The computer simulations and the experiments are demonstrated to the effect of the suggested control method.

  • This paper proposes the Elastic force application on the obstacle avoidance of Silvermate robots. The method deals with the problem associated with a Silvermate robot driving to a goal configuration as avoiding obstacles. The initial trajectory of a robot is determined by a motion planner, and the trajectory modification is accomplished by adjusting the control points. The control points are obtained based on the elastic force approach. Consequently the trajectory of a robot is incrementally modified to maintain a smooth and adaptive trajectory in an environment with obstacles. The suggested algorithm drives the robot to avoid obstacle in real-time. Finally, The simulation studies are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • In this paper, development of an omni-directional mobile robot with rocker-bogie link structure is addressed. The overall mobile robot system consists of the robot mechanism with embedded control architecture, wireless communication with host graphic monitoring system, and the joy stick tole-controller. In the cluttered environment with various sizes of obstacles, the omni-directionality and the traversality are required for a mobile robot, so that the robot call go around or climb over the obstacles according to the size. The mobile robot mechanism developed in this paper has both of the omni-directionality and the traversality by 4 steerable driving wheels and the 2 additional passive omni-directional wheels linked with the rocker-bogie structure. The kinematic modeling for the mobile robot is described based on the well-known Sheth-Uicker convention and the instantaneous coordinate system.

  • This paper deals with the trajectory planning of multi agent robots using complex potential theory for robot soccer. The complex potential theory is introduced, then the circle theorem is used to avoid obstacles, and the vortex pair is used to make precise kicking direction of robot. Various situations of robot soccer are simulated and the effect of vortex strength and the speed of robots are discussed and the better way to avoid obstacles and to kick the precise direction is found. The feasibilities of complex potential theory to apply for the multi agent robots are successful.

  • This paper presents a delayed time path planning method of the Autonomous Mobile Robot using fuzzy logic controller for avoidance of obstacles in unknown environment. It is the objective of this paper to develop fuzzy control algorithms using delayed time techniques to deal with moving obstacles randomly. This control method gives the benefit of the collision free movement in real time and optimal path to the pre-settled goal. The computer simulations are demonstrated the effective of the suggested control method in obstacle avoidance.

  • We propose a task and motion planning algorithm for clearing obstacles and wiping surfaces, which is essential for surface disinfection during the pathogen disinfection process. The proposed task and motion planning algorithm determines task parameters such as grasping pose and placement location during the planning process without using pre-specified or discretized values. Furthermore, to quickly inspect many unit motions, we propose a motion feasibility prediction algorithm consisting of collision checking and an SVM model for inverse mechanics and self-collision prediction. Planning time analysis shows that the feasibility prediction algorithm can significantly increase the planning speed and success rates in situations with multiple obstacles. Finally, we implemented a hierarchical control scheme to enable wiping motion while following a planner-generated joint trajectory. We verified our planning and control framework by conducted an obstacle-clearing and surface wiping experiment in a simulated disinfection environment.

  • This paper introduces an ARV(Autonomous Road Vehicle) system which can run on orads without help of a driver by detecting road boundaries through computer vision. This vehicle can also detect obstacles in front through sonar sensors and infrared sensors. This system largely consists of a handle steering module and a braking module. From road boundaries, the steering module determines handle turn angle. The braking module stops or decelerates to avoid collision depending on the relative speeds and distance to the obstacles detected by different sensors. This ARV system has been implemented in a small jeep and can run 30-40 km/h city traffic. In this paper, we illustrate the structure of the ARV systems and its operation principle.

  • This paper discusses an approach to real-time path-planning of mobile robot navigating amidst multiple obstacles. Given an environment with the coordinates of known obstacles, the moving area of a mobile robot is divided into many patches of triangles with small edge length, in order to ensure a path better than those reported in the literature. After finding a minimum-distance to minimize the number of turns and total path-length by two-step path-revision and path-smmothing.
