There have been many researches about SUGV (Small Unmanned Ground Vehicle) mechanism regarding off-road mobility and obstacle negotiation. This paper introduces an analysis of geometry parameters to enhance the vertical obstacle negotiation ability for the SUGV. Moreover, this paper proposes an anti-shock structure analysis of wheels to protect the main body of the SUGV when it falls off a vertical obstacle. Major system geometry parameters will be determined under certain constraints. The constraints and optimization problem for maximizing the ability of vertical obstacle negotiation will be presented and discussed. Dynamic simulation results and experiments with manufactured platform will also be presented to validate the analysis. Several types of wheel materials and structures will be compared to determine the best anti-shock wheel design through FEM (Finite Element Method) simulations.
In this research, a remote control system has been developed and implemented, which combines autonomous obstacle avoidance in real-time with force-reflective tele-operation. A tele-operated mobile robot is controlled by a local two-degrees-of-freedom force-reflective joystick that a human operator holds while he is monitoring the screen. In the system, the force-reflective joystick transforms the relation between a mobile robot and the environment to the operator as a virtual force which is generated in the form of a new collision vector and reflected to the operator. This reflected force makes the tele-operation of a mobile robot safe from collision in an uncertain and obstacle-cluttered remote environment. A mobile robot controlled by a local operator usually takes pictures of remote environments and sends the images back to the operator over the Internet. Because of limitations of communication bandwidth and the narrow view-angles of the camera, the operator cannot observe shadow regions and curved spaces frequently. To overcome this problem, a new form of virtual force is generated along the collision vector according to both distance and approaching velocity between an obstacle and the mobile robot, which is obtained from ultrasonic sensors. This virtual force is transferred back to the two-degrees-of-freedom master joystick over the Internet to enable a human operator to feel the geometrical relation between the mobile robot and the obstacle. It is demonstrated by experiments that this haptic reflection improves the performance of a tele-operated mobile robot significantly.
This paper proposes the Elastic Force application on the obstacle avoidance of the Silvermate Robot. The method deals with the problem associated with the Silvermate robot driving to a goal configuration as avoiding obstacles. The initial trajectory of a robot is determined by a motion planner, and the trajectory modification is accomplished by adjusting the control points. The control points are obtained based on the elastic force approach. Consequently the trajectory of a robot is incrementally modified to maintain a smooth and adaptive trajectory in an environment with obstacles. The suggested algorithm drivers the robot to obstacle avoid in real-time. Finally, the simulation studies are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach

The safe navigation of a mobile robot requires the recognition of the environment in terms of vision processing. To be guided in the given path, the robot should acquire the information about where the wall and corridor are located. Also unexpected obstacles should be detected as rapid as possible for the safe obstacle avoidance. In the paper, we assume that the mobile robot should be navigated in the flat surface. In terms of this assumption we simplify the correspondence problem by the free navigation surface and matching features in that coordinate system. Basically, the vision processing system adopts line segment of edge as the feature. The extracted line segments of edge out of both image are matched in the free nevigation surface. According to the matching result, each line segment is labeled by the attributes regarding obstacle and free surface and the 3D shape of obstacle is interpreted. This proposed vision processing method is verified in terms of various simulations and experimentation using real images.
An aeronautical study is a study of an aeronautical problem to identify possible solutions and select a solution that is acceptable without degrading safety. ICAO and the member states have established the standards regarding the obstacle limitation and regulated the construction of the man-made structures in and beyond the standards. Any obstacles that extend above a standards should as far as practicable be removed except after aeronautical study it is determined that the object would not adversely affect the safety or significantly affect the regularity of operations of airplanes. However ICAO and most member states does not established provisions of the scope and implement procedures of aeronautical study. Recently, Civil Aviation Regulations in Korea specify the provisions relevant to aeronautical study. The Prime objectives of this comparative study are to improve the domestic provisions for aeronautical study caused by obstacle limitation through the investigate the international standards and regulations.
A potential field method for solving the problem of path planning based on global and local information for a mobile robot moving among a set of stationary obstacles is described. The concept of various method used path planning is used design a planning strategy. A real human living area is constructed by many moving and imminence obstacles. Home service mobile robot must avoid many obstacles instantly. A path that safe and attraction towards the goal is chosen. The potential function depends on distance from the goal and heuristic function relies on surrounding environments. Three additional combined methods are proposed to apply to human living area, calibration robots position by measured surrounding environment and adapted home service robots. In this work, we proposed the application of various path planning theory to real area, human living. First, we consider potential field method. Potential field method is attractive method, but that method has great problem called local minimum. So we proposed intermediate point in real area. Intermediate point was set in doorframe and between walls there is connect other room or other area. Intermediate point is very efficiency in computing path. That point is able to smaller area, area divided by intermediate point line. The important idea is intermediate point is permanent point until destruction house or apartment house. Second step is move robot with sensing on front of mobile robot. With sensing, mobile robot recognize obstacle and judge moving obstacle. If mobile robot is reach the intermediate point, robot sensing the surround of point. Mobile robot has data about intermediate point, so mobile robot is able to calibration robots position and direction. Third, we gave uncertainty to robot and obstacles. Because, mobile robot was motion and sensing ability is not enough to control. Robot and obstacle have uncertainty. So, mobile robot planed safe path planning to collision free. Finally, escape local minimum, that has possibility occur robot do not work. Local minimum problem solved by virtual obstacle method. Next is some supposition in real living area.
In this paper, potential field algorithm was used for path planning in dynamic environment. This algorithm is used to plan a robot path because of its elegant mathematical analysis and simplicity. However, there are some problems. The problems are problem of collision risk, problem of avoidance path, problem of time consumption. In order to solve these problems, we fused potential field with fuzzy system. The input of the fuzzy system is set using relative velocity and location of robot and obstacle. The output of the fuzzy system is set using the weighting factor of repulsive potential function. The potential field algorithm is improved by using fuzzy potential field algorithm and, path planning in various environment has been done.
A robot motion planning algorithm for time-varying obstacle avoidance is proposed. The robot motion planning problem is replaced with the optimization problem by using the distance function with the divided configuration space. To divide the configuration space, the polar coordinate system is used. For each divided configuration space, the admissible region where the robot can reach without collisions is obtained using the distance function. For an object moving in a plane, the admissible region is described by linear constraints on the polar coordinate system. A numerical algorithm that solves the optimization problem is shown and the computer simulation is carried out.
