Data were analyzed by using SPSS 17.0. Results: Seventeen students (9.1%) had IBS by ROME III criteria, but 46% had some GI problems at that time. Abdominal pain or discomfort continued for last six months or more in 14.3%. Fiber intake, obsessive-compulsiveness, hostility, psychoticism, global severity index, positive symptom distress, role physical, bodily pain, social functioning, and mental health were significantly different between IBS group and Non IBS group. Conclusion: Over nine percent of the students were diagnosed by Rome III criteria, and almost half of them had some GI problems. • With rapid changes in social environments, the phenomena of consumption emerge as diverse forms in Korea-excessive consumption, impulsive consumption, imitative consumption, conspicuous consumption, obsessive consumption, etc. Especially, this researcher is interested in how conspicuous consumption of clothing has been reported in newspaper articles. Therefore, the present study is trying to infer reasons for the actual conditions of prevalent conspicuous consumption of clothing in Korean society since the 1980's. Articles in the newspaper from 1991 to 1996 have been studied to provide for study. The rapid industrialization of Korea since the 1960's has led to serious social competition and stratification. For this reason there has been a rise in the relative deprivation and alienation of low-income classes. Hence, they tend to consume clothing conspicuously in order to reduce their complex against wealthy classes. In addition, the improvement of income levels has led to a change in values towards consumption, and materialism. These changes in values along with mass communication are the main factors affecting conspicuous consumption of clothing. Finally, the present study concludes that the state of conspicuous consumption of clothing is based more on the socio-constructive dimension than the personal dimension. Further study of conspicuous consumption of clothing need to focus on the socio-constructive dimension. But because this study only infers the reasons for conspicuous consumption of clothing in terms of constructive dimension, our findings suggest further need for much more detailed and experimental discussion on the issue. The concrete reasons need to be explored in further research.

  • Learning disabilities (LD) are heterogeneous group of disorders with evidences of genetic or familial trait, intrinsic to the individual and presume to be due to central nervous dysfunction. Learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are the two of the most common disorders in the population of school-age children. Typically academic achievements in children with learning disabilities are significantly lower than expected by their normal or above normal range of IQ. Although academic and cognitive deficits are hallmarks of children with LD, those children are also at risk for a broad range of behavioral and emotional problems. Almost all cases meet criteria for at least one additional diagnosis such as ADHD, developmental coordination disorder, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, tic disorder, among which ADHD is particularly predominant. Because of the response to the therapeutic intervention program is promising and positive when applied early, it is critical to recognize patients as early as possible. Pediatricians often are the first to hear from parents worried about a childs academic progress. It is not the responsibility of pediatrician to make a diagnosis, referring children for a diagnostic evaluation of LD is a reasonable first step. Pediatricians can make early referral of suspicious children by asking some serial short questions about basic and processing skills. With a basic knowledge about the clinical characteristics, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of LD, pediatricians also can provide primary counseling and education for parents at their outpatient clinical settings.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the relationships among job stress, job satisfaction, and mental health in marine officers. Methods: The researchers gathered data on marine officers working at a harbor in Chungcheong Province, South Korea, using a self-reported questionnaire. Mental health was measured by the Symptom Checklist-90-Revision (SCL-90-R), and general characteristics including socioeconomic factors, job stress, and job satisfaction were measured by structured questionnaires. Multiple regression analysis was performed to investigate the relationships among job stress, job satisfaction, and mental health status according to the symptom dimensions of the SCL-90-R. Results: Among the marine officers, obsessive-compulsive behavior, depression, and somatization were the most problematic symptoms. Those who reported poor health, low job satisfaction, and high job stress had a higher prevalence of psychoticism, somatization, depression, anxiety, and phobic anxiety. Conclusions: An occupational health system should be introduced that would regularly check the mental health of marine officers in charge of ships and sailors, in order to help reduce their stress levels, enhance their job satisfaction, and thereby improve their mental health.

  • Objectives: Therapeutic effect of Yinyang Balancing Appliance of functional cerebrospinal therapy (FCST) for meridian and neurologic yinyang balance was observed in cervical dystonia cases. Methods: Two cervical dystonia cases were managed with the Yinyang Balancing Appliance on temporomandibular joint (TMJ), combined with acupuncture. Clinical outcome measurement was based on subjective measures and clinical observations. Results: The patients showed positive changes even after the initial treatment and this effect maintained over the follow-up period. Conclusions: Although it is not clear the effect is a sustaining or temporary in its nature, a positive effect was observed and further clinical and biological research on FCST is expected.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine differences in multicultural early childhood teaching activities according to the general characteristics of early childhood teachers, to analyze the relationships and effects of early childhood teachers' happiness, variables of attitudes toward the teaching profession, and variables of multicultural teaching, and ultimately to identify variables related to early childhood teachers that explain multicultural early childhood teaching activities. For this study, 270 teachers in charge of young children from multicultural families at early childhood education institutions were sampled. When the 'age' variable, which might affect multicultural teaching activities, was excluded and the relationships among early childhood teachers' variables as independent variables were analyzed, happiness and obsessive passion were found to have an effect on multicultural teaching activities. These findings suggest that early childhood teachers' happiness and passion for teaching needs to be enhanced as an effort to set the direction of multicultural education fit for the characteristics of Korea in the field of early childhood education, where the foundation of culture is laid and prejudices are easily formed.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to survey the degree to which people use the Internet prior to joining the army and mental health. Methods : The author assessed Internet addiction and mental health using an Internet addiction diagnostic scale for soldiers and the Symptoms Check-list-90. A total of 508 subjects were included in the final analysis. Collected data were analyzed by independent t-test. Results : The Internet addiction risk group (n=19, 3.7%) had significantly higher mean scores for obsessive-compulsion (t=-2.43, p=0.02) and interpersonal-sensitivity subscales (t=-2.30, p=0.03) than the control group. Conclusion : Internet addiction was related to soldiers' mental health. An assessment focused on internet use would be useful in the evaluation of a person potential adaptation to the military.
