Quantitative evaluation of midpalatal suture maturation via fractal analysis

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine whether the results of fractal analysis can be used as criteria for midpalatal suture maturation evaluation. Methods: The study included 131 subjects aged over 18 years of age (range 18.1-53.4 years) who underwent cone-beam computed tomography. Skeletonized images of the midpalatal suture were obtained via image processing software and used to calculate fractal dimensions. Correlations between maturation stage and fractal dimensions were calculated using Spearman's correlation coefficient. Optimal fractal dimension cut-off values were determined using a receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: The distribution of maturation stages of the midpalatal suture according to the cervical vertebrae maturation index was highly variable, and there was a strong negative correlation between maturation stage and fractal dimension (-0.623, p < 0.001). Fractal dimension was a statistically significant indicator of dichotomous results with regard to maturation stage (area under curve = 0.794, p < 0.001). A test in which fractal dimension was used to predict the resulting variable that splits maturation stages into ABC and D or E yielded an optimal fractal dimension cut-off value of 1.0235. Conclusions: There was a strong negative correlation between fractal dimension and midpalatal suture maturation. Fractal analysis is an objective quantitative method, and therefore we suggest that it may be useful for the evaluation of midpalatal suture maturation.

Identifying early indicator traits for sow longevity using a linear-threshold model in Thai Large White and Landrace females

  • Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate the possibility of utilizing an early litter size trait as an indirect selection trait for longevity and to estimate genetic parameters between sow stayability and litter size at different parities using a linear-threshold model for longevity in Thai Large White (LW) and Landrace (LR) populations. Methods: The data included litter size at first, second, and third parities (NBA1, NBA2, and NBA3) and sow stayability from first to fourth farrowings (STAY14). The data was obtained from 10,794 LR and 9,475 LW sows. Genetic parameters were estimated using the multiple-trait animal model. A linear-threshold model was used in which NBA1, NBA2, and NBA3 were continuous traits, while STAY14 was considered a binary trait. Results: Heritabilities for litter size were low and ranged from 0.01 to 0.06 for both LR and LW breeds. Similarly, heritabilities for stayability were low for both breeds. Genetic associations between litter size and stayability ranged from 0.43 to 0.65 for LR populations and 0.12 to 0.55 for LW populations. The genetic correlation between NBA1 and STAY14 was moderate and in a favorable direction for both LR and LW breeds (0.65 and 0.55, respectively). Conclusion: A linear-threshold model could be utilized to analyze litter size and sow stayability traits. Furthermore, selection for litter size at first parity, which was the genetic trait correlated with longevity, is possible when one attempts to improve lifetime productivity in Thai swine populations.

  • 머신러닝은 학습 데이터로부터 목적함수를 구성하고, 테스트 데이터를 통해 목적함수의 확인함으로써 발생하는 데이터에 대한 예측을 수행한다. 머신러닝에서 입력데이터는 전처리 과정을 통해 정규화 과정을 거친다. 이런 정규화는 입력데이터의 평균과 표준편차를 이용하여 표준화하거나, 수치 데이터가 아닌 nominal value는 one-hot 코드 형태로 변환하는 방식을 이용한다. 그러나 이 전처리 과정만으로 문제를 해결할 수 없다. 이러한 이유로 본 논문에서 입력데이터의 정규화를 위해 온톨로지를 이용하는 방법을 제안한다. 이를 위한 테스트 데이터는 모바일 기기로부터 수집된 와이파이 장치의 RSSI값을 이용하고, 수집된 데이터의 노이즈와 이질적 문제는 온톨로지를 이용하여 정제하는 방법을 제시한다.

어선 항적데이터를 활용한 어업손실보상을 위한 조업일수 산출 방법 (A method of calculating the number of fishing operation days for fishery compensation using fishing vessel trajectory data)

  • The fishery compensation by marine spatial planning such as routeing of ships and offshore wind farms is required objective data on whether fishing vessels are engaged in a target area. There has still been no research that calculated the number of fishing operation days scientifically. This study proposes a novel method for calculating the number of fishing operation days using the fishing trajectory data when investigating fishery compensation in marine spatial planning areas. It was calculated by multiplying the average reporting interval of trajectory data, the number of collected data, the status weighting factor, and the weighting factor for fishery compensation according to the location of each fishing vessel. In particular, the number of fishing operation days for the compensation of driftnet fishery was considered the daily average number of large vessels from the port and the fishery loss hours for avoiding collisions with them. The target area for applying the proposed method is the routeing area of ships of Jeju outer port. The yearly average fishing operation days were calculated from three years of data from 2017 to 2019. As a result of the study, the yearly average fishing operation days for the compensation of each fishing village fraternity varied from 0.0 to 39.0 days. The proposed method can be used for fishery compensation as an objective indicator in various marine spatial planning areas.

Assessment of the Risks of Occupational Diseases of the Passenger Bus Drivers

  • Background: The working conditions of bus drivers are difficult; they lead to occupational diseases and require careful study, particularly in Ukraine. The objective of the article is the description of occupational health risks of passenger bus drivers that lead to deteriorating health. Methods: The risk assessment was performed using a modified Risk Score method, which allowed determining the generalized level of danger to the driver's health. The hygienic hazards level was assessed as based on Stevenson's law, which was generalized later. Results: Based on the modification of the Risk Score method, it was possible to depart from expert assessments method of the risk level and calculate the general indicator based on the degree of dependence of the impact on the human body on its intensity, proposed by V. Minko. This allows objective determining of the impact of hygiene hazards on the health of the driver and to predict the occurrence of occupational diseases associated with the cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal system, and partial or complete disability due to the accumulation of emotional fatigue. The hazard assessment was carried out for three brands of passenger buses common in Ukraine, in which the driver is exposed to the dangers of fever, vibration, noise, harmful impurities in the bus cabin, and emotional load. Conclusion: The health of drivers in the cabins of passenger buses is most affected by hygiene hazards: fever, vibration, and emotional stress. The generalized level of risk is calculated by the modified method of Risk Score is 0.83; -0.99, -0.92 respectively.

Importance of Relative Comparison of Capsular Widths on the Affected and Non-Affected Sides of Temporomandibular Joint Arthralgia Patients: An Ultrasonography Study

  • Purpose: In this study, we evaluate the potential of the relative ratio of capsular width (RCW) between the affected side (Aff) and non-affected side (Non-aff) in patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthralgia. We assessed whether RCW may hold greater diagnostic significance than the objective capsular width (CW) reported in previous studies when diagnosing arthralgia using ultrasonography (US). Methods: Forty-nine patients were assessed using US, excluding four patients with bilateral arthralgia. The patients were divided into two groups: 40 with unilateral arthralgia (UA), and nine without arthralgia (NA). We measured CW and masseter muscle thickness using US. Moreover, we employed RCW to analyze the variances between the groups. The numerical rating scale (NRS) and RCW were compared before and after dexamethasone injection in 10 patients who underwent follow-up evaluations. Results: Within the UA group, CW on the Aff was found to be significantly larger compared to the Non-aff (p<0.001). Additionally, RCW in the UA group was greater than that in the NA group (p<0.01). Furthermore, after dexamethasone injection, a reduction in the NRS and RCW values was observed in the 10 patients who were followed up. Conclusions: While previous studies have suggested a link between arthralgia and TMJ effusion, making CW a possible indirect diagnostic indicator for arthralgia, our findings propose that RCW could hold more diagnostic value than objective CW. However, additional studies are required to standardize the protocols for interpreting US results and determining the cutoff value of RCW in diagnosing TMJ arthralgia.

  • 「소규모 공공시설 안전관리 등에 관한 법률(2015 제정)」에 따라 각 지자체에서는 소규모 공공시설을 선정하고, 매년 안전점검을 실시하고 있다. 소규모 공공시설 중 소교량은 세천과 더불어 재해위험성이 높고 마을주민의 공공이용성이 높은 시설이나, 그 개소수가 매우 많아 지자체의 한정된 인원으로 관리하기 어려운 시설에 해당한다. 따라서 지자체의 관리능력을 고려하여 합리적인 선정방법이 필요하며, 객관적 위험도 평가를 통한 위험시설의 선정 및 정비계획의 수립이 요구된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 지자체의 관리능력을 고려하여 소교량의 구조적, 기능적 분류를 통한 선정방법을 제시하고, 위험도 평가 10개 항목의 정량적 평가지표를 제시함으로써 객관적인 위험도 평가가 이루어질 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 전라북도 고창군의 선동권역을 대상으로 가법형 통합 지수를 사용하여 농촌지역의 객관적 경관을 평가하는 것이다. 연구는 다음의 세 단계로 구성된다. 1) 농촌경관의 개념 및 평가방법을 살펴보고, 경관 평가지표와 가중치를 바탕으로 객관적 경관 평가를 위한 가법형 통합지수 산정모형을 개발하였다. 2) 경관 평가지표 즉, 녹지자연도, 면적률, 건폐율에 대한 주제도 구축을 위해 고해상도 인공위성 영상을 이용한 식생지수 및 투수면적률을 산정하여 GIS DB를 구축하였다. 3) 평가데이터 및 각 지표에 의한 가중치를 통해 작성된 가법형 통합지수 산정모형을 사용하여 공간유형별, 경관영역별, 객관적 경관 평가를 실시하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 공간유형별 양호한 경관으로 판단되는 2등급 이상의 비율은 경작지, 수공간, 산림, 시가화 지역, 주거지, 건물 순으로 나타났으며, 개발지가 포함된 시가화 지역, 주거지, 건물 등에서 객관적 경관은 열악하게 평가되었다. 2) 경관영역별 2등급 이상의 비율은 혼합경관, 자연경관, 인공경관 순으로 나타났으며, 개발지로 이루어진 인공경관의 객관적 경관은 열악한 상태를 보였다. 3) 객관적 통합 농촌 경관 지수의 범위는 4등급이 가장 높게 나타났고, 1등급, 2등급, 3등급, 5등급 순으로 나타났으며, 객관적 경관이 보통 이하인 3등급 이하가 약 56.5%로 통합 농촌경관은 열악하게 평가되었다.

Automated Pressure-Controlled Discography with Constant Injection Speed and Real-Time Pressure Measurement

  • Objective : This study was designed to investigate automated pressure-controlled discography (APCD) findings, to calculate the elastance of intervertebral discs, and to assess the relationship between the calculated elastance and disc degeneration. Methods : APCD was performed in 19 patients. There were a total of 49 intervertebral discs treated. Following intradiscal puncture, a dye was constantly injected and the intradiscal pressure was continuously measured. The elastance of the intervertebral disc was defined as unit change in intradiscal pressure per fractional change in injected dye volume. Disc degeneration was graded using a modified Dallas discogram scale. Results : The mean elastance was 43.0${\pm}$9.6 psi/mL in Grade 0, 39.5${\pm}$8.3 psi/mL in Grade 1, 30.5${\pm}$22.3 psi/mL in Grade 2, 30.5${\pm}$22.3 psi/mL in Grade 3, 13.2${\pm}$8.3 psi/mL in Grade 4 and 6.9${\pm}$3.8 psi/mL in Grade 5. The elastance showed significant negative correlation with the degree of degeneration ($R^2$=0.529, P=0.000). Conclusion: APCD liberates the examiner from the data acquisition process during discography. This will likely improve the quality of data and the reliability of discography. Elastance could be used as an indicator of disc degeneration.

적혈구중 크롬농도를 이용한 6가크롬 노출의 생물학적 지표 (Chromium in Erythrocytes as a Biological Marker of Worker Exposed to Hexavalent Chromium)

  • Objective - To evaluate the usefulness of chromium in erythrocytes as a biological marker of exposure to hexavalent chromium in chromate producers and chrome platers Methods - Blood and urine samples were ramdomly obtained from chromate producers (n=34) and chrome platers (n=35), and non-exposed workers (n=75), chromium level in erythrocytes and plasma, and urine were measured. Different chromium exposure workers were assessed through measurements of airborne hexavalent chromium concentrations using a personal air sampler. Linear associations between variables were evaluated with correlation analysis. Results - The chromate producers had mean chromium levels in erythrocytes five fold as higher than the chrome platers, and fifteen fold higher than non-exposed group. Among the chromium exposed workers, airborne hexavalent chromium was positively and strongly correlated with in erythrocytes (r=0.689, p<0.01), and erythrocytes chromium was inversely correlated with hematocrit (r=-0.441, p<0.01), hemoglobin (r=-0.465, p<0.01) and the number of red blood cells (r=-0.28, p<0.05). Conclusions - In conclusion, this study suggests that chromium in erythrocytes is a good indicator of the chromium body burden caused by exposure to hexavalent chromium.
