  • In this paper, the algorithms which can track the two dimensional moving circular object using simple vision system are described. In order to track the moving object, the process of finding the object feature points - such as centroid of the object, corner points, area - is indispensable. With the assumption of two-dimensional circular moving object, the centroid of the circular object is computed from three points on the object circumference. Different kinds of algorithms for computing three edge points - simple x directional detection method, stick method. T-shape method are suggested. Through the computer simulation and experiments, three algorithms are compared from the viewpoint of detection accuracy and computational time efficiency.

  • Automatic tracking of a moving object such as a person is a demanding technique especially in surveillance. This paper describes an experimental system for tracking a moving object on the ground by using a visually controlled aerial robot. A blimp is used as the aerial robot in the proposed system because of its locality in motion and its silent nature. The developed blimp is equipped with a camera for taking downward images and four rotors for controlling the progression. Once a camera takes an image of a specified moving object on the ground, the blimp is controlled so that it follows the object by the employment of the visual information. Experimental results show satisfactory performance of the system. Advantages of the present system include that images from the air often enable us to avoid occlusion among objects on the ground and that blimp’s progression is much less restricted in the air than, e.g., a mobile robot running on the ground.

  • The LBS (Location-Based Services) are valuable information services combined the location of moving object with various contents such as map, POI (point of Interest), route and so on. The must general service of LBS is route determination service and its applicable parts are FMS (Fleet Management System), travel advisory system and mobile navigation system. The core function of route determination service is determination of optimal route from source to destination in various environments. The MODB (Moving Object Database) system, core part of LBS composition systems, is able to manage current or past location information of moving object and massive trajectory information stored in MODB is value-added data in CRM, ERP and data mining part. Also this past trajectory information can be helpful to determine optimal route. In this paper, we suggest methods to determine optimal route by querying past trajectory information in MODB system and verify the effectiveness of suggested method.

  • This paper presents the active eye system for tracking a moving object in 3D space. A prototype system able to track a moving object is designed and implemented. The mechanical system ables the control of platform that consists of binocular camera and also the control of the vergence angle of each camera by step motor. Each camera has two degrees of freedom. The image features of the object are extracted from complicated environment by using zero disparity filtering(ZDF). From the cnetroid of the image features the gaze point on object is calculated and the vergence angle of each camera is controlled by step motor. The Proposed method is implemented on the prototype with robust and fast calculation time.

  • Impact of business process re-engineering requires the fundamental rethinking of how information systems are analyzed and designed. It is no longer sufficient to establish a monolithic system for fixed business environments. Information systems must be adaptive in nature. This demand is also applied in production domain. Enabling concept for the adaptive information system is reusability. This paper presents a new object-oriented analysis process for creating such reusable software components in production domain, especially for production planning and scheduling. Our process called MeCOMA is based on three meta-models: physical object meta-model, data object meta-model, and activity object meta-model. After the three meta-models are extended independently for a given production system, they are collaboratively integrated on the basis of integration pattern. The main advantages of MeCOMA are (1) to reduce software development time and (2) to consistently build reusable production software components.

  • Views are essential in providing logical data independence for database systems. Object views in object-oriented/object-relational databases have requirements quite different from those of relational databases due to support for object-oriented concepts. Although many commercial object-oriented/object-relational database systems support object views, implementation techniques have not been discussed sufficiently in the literature. In this paper, we devise a technique for implementing views in object-oriented/object-relational databases and apply it to the ODYSSEUS object-relational database system. We first analyze the requirements of object views. Next, to implement object views, we extend the existing query modification algorithm that has been proposed for implementing views in relational databases. Next, we compare the features of the proposed object view with those of object views in commercial object-relational database systems. It is shown that the proposed object view supports all object-oriented concepts such as object identifiers, inheritance, methods, and composite objects, while existing object views support part of them. Last, we propose detailed techniques for implementing the extended query modification algorithm in the ODYSSEUS object-relational database system.

  • This paper describes a development of magnetic tomography system using two poles perpendicular magnetic field. In the system, the relative permeabilities of the object are detected by Hall sensors located along with tube circumference. The signals according to the size and position of the object could be separated in case the relative permeability of the object are over 10. Moreover, the size and location of the object could be determined in real time.

  • In this paper, we propose a new opto-digital object recognition system which has rotation, scale, and shift invariant characteristics. The fourier power spectrum of the object image is modified to get shift invariance. The log-polar transform is used for rotation and scale invariance. And the decision of similarities is performed by nonlinear joint transform correlator (NJTC) that can control the ratio of phase and amplitude signals. Experimental verification of th eproposed optical object recognition system is presented.

  • Tracking is a fundamental technique which is able to be applied to gesture recognition, visual surveillance, tangible agent and so forth. Especially, multiple object tracking has been extensively studied in recent years in order to perform many and more complicated tasks. In this paper, we propose a new approach of multiple object tracking which is based on discrete event. We call this system the DEMOT (Discrete Event based Multiple Object Tracking). This approach is based on the fact that a multiple object tracking can have just four situations - initiation, continuation, termination, and overlapping. Here, initiation, continuation, termination, and overlapping constitute a primary event set and this is based on the change of the number of extracted objects between a previous frame and a current frame. This system reduces computational costs and holds down the identity of all targets. We make experiments for this system with respect to the number of targets, each event, and processing period. We describe experimental results that show the successful multiple object tracking by using our approach.

  • As technology related to digital imaging equipment is developed and generalized, digital imaging system is used for various purposes in fields of society. The object tracking technology from digital image data in real time is one of the core technologies required in various fields such as security system and robot system. Among the existing object tracking technologies, cam shift technology is a technique of tracking an object using color information of an object. Recently, digital image data using infrared camera functions are widely used due to various demands of digital image equipment. However, the existing cam shift method can not track objects in image data without color information. Our proposed tracking algorithm tracks the object by analyzing the color if valid color information exists in the digital image data, otherwise it generates the lightness feature information and tracks the object through it. The brightness feature information is generated from the ratio information of the width and the height of the area divided by the brightness. Experimental results shows that our tracking algorithm can track objects in real time not only in general image data including color information but also in image data captured by an infrared camera.
