중부지방에서 봄과 가을재배 연맥의 숙기군별 생육특성 및 수량성 (Growth Characters and Productivity of Early- and Medium-Maturing Oat Varieties Sown in Spring and Autumn at Central Districts of Korea)

  • Selection of oat variety according to cultivation period is an important to increase productivity of forage crop. To investigate the growth characters and dry matter productivity of oats according to cultivation period, early-maturing oat(EM0) and medium-maturing oat(MM0) variety were sown in spring and autumn at central district of Korea. When oats were cultivated in spring, MMO variety was longer 8 cm in leaf length and wider 5 mm in leaf width than 25 cm and 12 mm of EM0 variety, rexpectively. but in autumn, those were not different between maturities of oat varieties. Plant length of MMO variety was longer 7 cm than that of EM0 Variety in spring cultivation, but in autumn, plant length of EM0 variety was longer 14 cm than that of MMO variety. Heading dates were 20th to 22th May in EM0 variety, and 30th May to 10th June in MMO variety in spring cultivation, and ear of EM0 variety emerged 30th Oct. to loth Nov. but that of MMO variety did not emerge at harvesting day in autumn cultivation. In Spring cultivation, dry matter(DM) yield of EM0 variety was 7,349 kg/ha that was less 56% than 11,466 kg/ha of MMO variety, but In Autumn, was more 15% than 6,575 kg/ha of MMO variety. In conclusion, selection of oat variety in spring and autumn cultivation can be different with cropping system of forage crop, and this trial is suggesting that oat variety could be sown MMO variety in spring and EM0 variety in autumn at central district of Korea. Effect of Location, Season, and Variety on Yield and Quality of Forage Oat

  • Forage oat (Avena sativa L.) is grown extensively in a double-cropping system on dairy farms. Four oat varieties ('Swan', 'Targa', 'Foothill', and 'Nugene') were evaluated for forage production and forage quality during two growing seasons (spring and autumn) at two locations (central and southern region) in South Korea. The heading stage of four oat varieties was observed during spring, but the autumn season did not produce heading until harvest time except for the 'Swan' variety (early-maturing variety). The heading stage of 'Swan' in both locations was earlier compared to other varieties. The four varieties were resistant to both foliar disease and insects. Lodging resistance was higher during autumn except in 2002 at the central region, and late-maturing varieties ('Foothill' and 'Nugene') have lower lodging resistance. Dry matter (DM) content was significantly different between varieties (p<0.001). Comparing different varieties, 'Swan', an early-maturing variety, was highest in DM content. In DM, total digestible nutrients (TDN) and crude protein (CP) yield, the yield of oat varieties in the southern region was higher than in the central region, and forage yield of the oat varieties in the spring season was higher than during the autumn season. The DM and TDN yield showed significant differences between oat varieties. The CP content of oats grown in the central region (Cheonan) was lower than oats grown in the southern region (Daegu), and the spring season produced oats with lower CP compared to the autumn season. Among the four oat varieties, the CP content of late-maturing varieties was higher than the Swan variety (early-maturing variety). The acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents were higher for the varieties grown in Cheonan and during the spring season. The ADF and NDF contents of late-maturing varieties were lower than the early-maturing variety. TDN and relative feed value (RFV) were higher for the varieties grown in Daegu and during the autumn season. Late-maturing variety had higher TDN and RFV than early-maturing variety. Our study showed differences in forage production and forage quality of oats grown in different locations, seasons and varieties. Forage quality as well as forage production was better in the southern region than in the central region. Forage quality was better during autumn, but forage production was better during spring. Late-maturing variety had better forage quality than the early-maturing variety. Therefore, late-maturing varieties are more suitable for use in the southern region.

중부지역에서 총체맥류의 예취시기별 생육 및 조사료 수량 변화 (Changes of Growth and Forage Yield at Different Cutting Dates among Five Winter Cereals for Whole Crop Silage in Middle Region)

  • 조사료 생산에 유망한 동계작물중 보리, 밀, 호밀, 귀리, 트리티케일(라이밀) 등 5종의 총체맥류에 대하여 월동 후 예취시기에 따른 생육 및 조사료 생산성에 관한 생장곡선을 조사하기 위하여 충남 예산군 소재의 충남농업기술원 답리작 포장에서 2006${\sim}$2007년에 수행한 결과는 다음과 같다. 지상부 건물중에서 줄기가 차지하는 비율은 월동 후 점차 증가하다가 어느 정점부터는 감소하는 2차원적인 경향을 보였는데, 줄기의 구성비율이 최고가 되는 시기는 각각 영양 보리 5월 1일, 금강 밀 5월 5일, 곡우 호밀 5월 10일, 신영 트리티케일 5월 11일, 삼한 귀리 5월 13일경이었다. 잎은 월동 후 성숙이 진행될수록 직선적으로 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 이삭이 차지하는 비율은 영양 보리가 출수 후 직선적으로 증가하였는데 밀, 트리티케일, 귀리에 비하여 높았고, 호밀이 가장 낮았다. 영양 보리가 출수기 이후에 다른 총체맥류에 비하여 줄기의 구성비율이 낮고 이삭과 잎의 구성비율이 높은 전형적인 총체맥류에 속하였고, 다음은 밀과 귀리이었으며, 호밀은 알곡 비율이 적은 조사료 작물에 해당하였다. 사일리지 제조에 알맞은 수분 함량(60${\sim}$ 70%에 도달하는 시기는 영양 보리 5월 25일, 금강 밀 5월 25일${\sim}$6월 5일, 삼한 귀리 6월 5일이었고, 이 때 생체수량은 곡우호밀>삼한 귀리>신영 트리티케일>영양 보리>금강 밀 순으로 높았다. 생체수량은 월동 후 생육이 진전됨에 따라 증가하다가 일정시기 이후 감소하는 경향을 보였는데, 중부지역에서 생체수량이 최대로 되는 시기는 영양 보리 5월 7일경, 금강 밀 5월 14경, 곡우 호밀 5월 9일, 신영 트리티케일 5월 17일경, 삼한 귀리 5월 말이었다. 건물수량은 4종의 총체맥류 모두 월동 후 성숙기까지 직선적으로 증가하는 양상을 보였고, 사일리지 제조에 알맞은 수분 함량에 도달하는 시기에 조사한 건물수량은 귀리 > 보리 > 밀 > 트리티케일 > 호밀 순으로 높았다. 상대 생장률은 월동 후 서서히 증가하다가 정점 이후로 감소하는 2차원적인 생장을 보였는데, 월동 후 예취시기가 빠를수록 곡우 호밀이 높은 상대생장률을 보였고, 예취시기가 늦을수록 삼한 귀리가 높았으며, 금강 밀, 영양 보리, 신영 트리티케일은 비슷한 상대생장률을 보였다.

봄과 가을 파종시 귀리 품종별 생육, 수량 및 사료가치 비교 (Comparisons of Characteristics, Yield and Feed Quality of Oat Varieties Sown in Spring and Autumn)

  • 귀리는 단기 다수성 작물로서 잎의 비율이 높을 뿐만 아니라 가축의 기호성도 양호하며 다른 총체맥류에 비하여 파종시기의 선택폭이 넓다. 따라서 본 시험은 내한성이 강하여 중부 지방에서도 월동이 가능한 귀리 3품종과 옥수수 뒷그루 재배에 알맞은 3품종에 대하여 10월 중순 가을 파종과 3월 상순 봄 파종시 생육, 수량 및 사료가치를 비교하고자 실시하였다. 출수기는 봄 파종시 가을 파종에 비하여 평균 12일 늦었고, 품종간에는 약 8일의 차이가 있었다. 봄 파종은 가을 파종에 비하여 이삭과 잎의 비율이 감소하고 줄기가 차지하는 비율이 증가되는 경향이었다. 품종별로는 동한귀리가 다른 품종에 비하여 이삭의 비율이 높고 줄기의 비율이 낮은 경향이었다. ADF 함량은 봄파종에서 높았고, NDF 함량과 가소화 건물 함량은 가을파종에서 높았다. 가소화 건물함량은 가을 파종시 동한귀리와 스완에서, 봄 파종에서는 삼한귀리가 높았다. 삼한, 동한, 조한귀리 3품종의 생초수량이 가을 파종이 봄 파종에 비하여 높았으나 건물수량은 비슷한 경향이었다. 스완, 다크호스, 하이스피드는 봄 파종이 가을 파종에 비하여 생초수량 및 건물수량이 월등히 높았다. 품종별로는 가을 파종과 봄 파종 모두 동한귀리가 건물수량과 가소화 건물수량이 높았는데, 이는 상대적으로 많은 이삭수의 확보와 이삭이 차지하는 비율이 높았기 때문이었다.

  • Three oat cultivars and one oat breeding line were evaluated for chemical, hydration and pasting properties. Protein, starch and ${\beta}$-glucan levels ranged 11.13~14.37, 56.37~64.86 and 3.44~4.76%, respectively. The oat cultivars Daeyang and Seonyang contained higher ${\beta}$-glucan levels of 4.76 and 4.35%. The Daeyang variety had a higher water absorption index (WAI) of 2.83~3.35 (g/g), but a lower water solubility index (WSI) of 8.67~11.08%. Daeyang and Seonyang cultivars showed higher peak and trough viscosity, but lower breakdown and setback, indicating that they easily swell, and thus could possibly provide the desirable viscosity of an oat product. The ${\beta}$-glucan levels were correlated positively with WAI, peak and trough viscosity, and negatively to WSI, breakdown and setback viscosity.

국내 귀리품종 탈부특성에 따른 품질 및 유연관계 분석 (Quality and genetic relationship on dehulling characteristic in oat variety)

  • 귀리(Avena Sativa L., Oat)에서 이삭모양과 탈부특성이 다른 겉귀리와 쌀귀리를 품질특성으로 구분하고자 12 품종 귀리종실의 이화학적 특성 및 식이섬유를 분석하였고, 61개의 SSR 분자마커를 이용하여 근연관계 및 조양 판별 마커조합을 설정하였으며 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 공시한 12개의 귀리 품종을 생육조사 한 결과 쌀귀리는 이삭의 한 소수에서 영화수가 4~5개 생기는데 비해 겉귀리는 2~3개 생겼으며, 탈곡 후 종실의 껍질 유무 또한 쌀귀리는 없었고 겉귀리는 껍질이 남아있는 형태로 기존에 알려진 것과 같은 결과를 보였다. 2. 단백질은 쌀귀리가 13.45 ~ 16.56%, 겉귀리는 12.95 ~ 15.31%의 함량 분포를 나타내었으며, 지방은 쌀귀리가 7.26 ~ 10.34%, 겉귀리는 7.53 ~ 10.82%의 함량 분포를 나타내었으며, 베타글루칸은 쌀귀리가 4.19 ~ 5.05%, 겉귀리는 3.49 ~ 5.60%의 함량 분포를 나타내어 귀리 품종 간에는 품질특성이 차이가 나타났으나 쌀귀리와 겉귀리를 구분 할 수 있을 정도는 아니었다. 3. 지방산 조성 비율은 쌀귀리가 겉귀리에 비해 올레인산(C18:1, Oleic acid, 40.2 ~ 50.9%)과 스테아르산(C18:0, Stearic acid, 1.2 ~ 2.5%)이 높은 비율을 나타냈으며, 겉귀리는 쌀귀리에 비해 리놀레산(C18:2, Linoleic acid, 30.6 ~ 41.2%)과 리놀렌산(C18:3, Linolenic acid, 0.7 ~ 1.3%)이 더 높은 비율을 보였다. 4. 귀리의 근연관계는 계수(Coefficient) 1.22에서 그룹 하여 정리한 결과 겉귀리 6품종과 쌀귀리 1품종으로 그룹 되었고 유전적 거리(Genetic Distance)는 '동한'과 '태한'이 가장 가깝게 나타났으며 다음은 '풍한', '삼한', '옥한', '조풍', '중모2005' 순으로 나타났다. 계수(Coefficient) 1.22에서 그룹 되지 않은 귀리는 겉귀리 1품종과 쌀귀리 4품종으로 '수양', '다한', '대양', '선양', '조양' 순으로 그룹에서 먼 것으로 나타나 대체적으로 겉귀리와 쌀귀리가 서로 멀게 나타났다. 5. 12개의 귀리품종에 61개의 SSR maker를 이용하여 분석한 결과 '조양'은 AM28, 29, 32, 34, 36의 5개 SSR마커에서 다른 품종과 다른 밴드 패턴을 나타내어 품종 구분이 가능하였다.

Varietal and Annual Variations of β-Glucan Contents in Korean Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and Oat (Avena sativa L.) Cultivars

  • Varietal and annual variations in the contents of ${\beta}$-glucan fractions per weight grain samples were examined in sixteen covered and eighteen naked barley and five oat cultivars developed in Korea. Also, the effect of pearling on ${\beta}$-glucan content was investigated. Average contents of total, soluble and insoluble ${\beta}$-glucan fractions were 5.25, 3.72, and 1.53%, respectively, in covered barley, and 5.86, 3.51, and 2.35%, respectively, in naked barley. Soluble ${\beta}$-glucan content was higher in covered barley, though total ${\beta}$-glucan content higher in naked barley. The total and insoluble ${\beta}$-glucan contents were higher in pearled grains. Total ${\beta}$-glucan content was higher in waxy barley than in non-waxy barley. Duwonchapssalbori, a two-rowed and waxy naked barley cultivar, was highest in total, soluble and insoluble ${\beta}$-glucan contents. Highly significant positive correlations were observed between total ${\beta}$-glucan and soluble ${\beta}$-glucan contents both in covered and naked barley. There were significant annual variations in total ${\beta}$-glucan content in barley. Average contents of total, soluble and insoluble ${\beta}$-glucans of oat cultivars were 4.33, 3.44, and 0.89%, respectively. Contents of all fractions of ${\beta}$-glucans were higher in barley than in oat. These results would be useful for the breeding of high ${\beta}$-glucan variety and also for the use barley and oat as valueadded food ingredients.

Production and Quality Parameters of Oat Grown in Conventional/Organic Farming

  • Hulled and naked oat is a perspective crop for the low input production systems due to its low requirements for soil quality and nutrition. Oats have good competitive ability against weeds and can provide appropriate yield in organic farming in comparison with other cereal species such as wheat or barley. It is a perspective crop from the point of view of use in the food industry too. The aim of our study was to compare the production and quality parameters of naked and hulled oat grown in both organic (OF) and conventional fields (CF). Small plot trials were conducted in two locations in the Czech Republic (České Budějovice, Prague) for four years (2018-2021) in two production systems (OF, and CF). We used four varieties of hulled oat (Korok, Kertag, Raven, Seldon) and one variety of naked oat (Patrik). During the vegetation, agronomically important data were recorded. After harvest samples were processed in the laboratory and analyzed selected quality parameters of grain dry matter (the protein content was determined by the Kjeldahl method, starch content in grain according to Ewers, fat content in grain dry matter by the modified method according to Soxhlet, and ash content in grain dry matter). The data were evaluated using the program STATISTICA version 13.2, StatSoft, Inc., California, USA. It is clear from the results that the number of panicles before the harvest was influenced by the location, cultivation system, year, and, to a lesser extent, the influence of the variety. The number of panicles in OF averaged 340 per square meter, which was 90% of the value of CF. For thousand grain weight (TGW), a significantly predominant effect of year was found. The independent effect of location on TGW was statistically not significant. Grain yield was predominantly influenced by cultivation system and location. In OF, it reached an average of 3.97 t.ha-1, which was 75% of the yield of CF. As part of the evaluation of the basic grain quality indicators, the content of protein, starch, fat, and ash in the dry matter of the grain was evaluated. The content of protein in the dry matter of the grain was predominantly influenced by year, followed by the influence of the variety and a fairly comparable influence of the cultivation system and locality. On average, it achieved 16.05% in OF and 17.01% in CF. The starch content was then related to the protein content, where as a result of the lower protein content in the grain of OF oats, the content of starch and fat was on the contrary increased. The year turned out to be the most significant factor, affecting both the starch content in the dry matter of the grain and the fat content. This was followed again by a fairly comparable influence on the cultivation system and locality. The influence of the cultivation system and location was not statistically significantly applied in the case of ash content in dry matter. Based on our results we can propose both types of oat (hulled and naked) as perspective crops for OF. An organic farmer can expect to achieve stable yields which, in less favorable conditions for the production of cereals in the OF, may be close to the level of conventional yields. In the future, it will be important to change agrotechnology in OF and increase oat yield because this crop has a good potential to grow in areas with low nitrogen input or less fertile soil.

Analysis of Rumen Fermentation and Methanogen Levels in Response to Various Alfalfa Hay, Oat Hay, and Feed Concentrate Ratios

  • This study aimed to analyze ruminal fermentation, methane emissions, and methanogen levels for different forage feed type and concentrate feed ratios. Alfalfa hay, oat hay, and a feed concentrate were used for in vitro fermentation experiments, at ratios of 9:1, 5:5, and 1:9 (forage:concentrate). After 24 h of incubation, rumen fermentation and methanogen level changes were evaluated. In the low forage treatments, the total gas, CH4, NH3-N, true dry matter digestibility, and total volatile fatty acid were higher than the other treatments, which were used as the parameters on which to assess rumen fermentation (P < 0.05). The feed ratio influenced the copy number for the total archaea and the genus Methanobrevibacter (P = 0.015, P = 0.010). The copy number result trend was like that for CH4 per digested dry matter (DDM). The PCR results and methanogen copy number analysis indicated that the composition of the methanogens affected the CH4 levels, not their copy number. The results of this study can be applied to predict rumen fermentation and methane emission patterns for cattle fed a variety of feedstuffs.

Prospect of new variety breeding of Italian ryegrass in South Korea

  • The objective of this study was to know prospect and present state of new variety breeding of Forage and Grassland in South Korea. The industry of forage in Korea is going up to expend through utilization of good quality forage, Italian ryegrass, forage corn and oat rather than rice straw. Especially, since 2007, Italian ryegrass(IRG) had been very important major winter forage crop in South Korea and developed 13 varieties including very early maturity variety (three varieties), early maturity variety (three varieties), medium maturity variety (one variety) and late maturity variety (six varieties). But the disadvantage of Italian ryegrass was weak winter hardness and drought but has good advantage of forage nutritive value, high-yielding and high sugar content, and like livestock as like hanwoo, dairy cattle, goat so on. The Ko-variety (Korea developed variety) of Italian ryegrass has high cold-tolerant and adaptability more than any other country developed variety, and expend to cultivation area from southern area (below Daejeon) to middle-northern area (upper Han river). Although the cultivation area of Italian ryegrass of South Korea was 21,700 ha in 2007, right now, that of Italian ryegrass is about 123,600ha due to expend cultivation area and know famer to good forage crop and have a various maturity varieties (very early, early, medium, late) according to local situation (before-crop harvesting stage or double cropping system). The seed market of Italian ryegrass in South Korea becoming extended to around 100 million Korean won and seed export get nearer to foreign country. We are going to develop of new variety for stress tolerant and high yield and quality forage variety, good adaptability to the Korean environmental conditions including reclaimed area, make self-sufficiency system for forage seed (Italian ryegrass), export our seed to foreign countries.
