  • The 2 GeV electron linac, the injector of the Pohang Light Source, was used as a photo-neutron source for radiation shielding research. The operational beam parameters are the nominal electron intensity of $0.5\;{\sim}5\;nC/sec$, the repetition rate of 10 Hz, and the beam pulse length of 1.0 nsec. One electron beam line was modified in order to install the target systems for producing pulsed photo-neutrons. The neutron spectrum and intensity were investigated by the time-of-flight technique. The reliable maximum energy of the measured neutrons was about 500 MeV. The number of neutrons above 20 MeV produced by one 1 GeV electron in a thick Pb target was about $6.45{\times}10^{-4}/sr$ at 90 degrees to the beam axis. The status of the photo-neutron source and the application research are presented.

  • This paper is mainly concerned with the state of the practical developments of a constants PWM bridge type resonants DC-DC suitable converter for Nd:YAG Laser with a Microprocessor. (PIC16C54 & 8051) The use of IGBT power supply with feedback control of flashLamp currents imparts a advantages to Nd:YAG Laser for materials processing. these include the alility to tailor the pulseshape and modify pulse parameters on a pulse- by pulse basis. And Correct choice of pulseshape can enhance the repeatability of the process. as higher power IGBT became available, act ive pulseforming power supplies will find greater user in deep hole drilling machine By Using certain control tecniques, utililized in designing Pic16c54 from Microchip technology and Intel 8051, also Mornitoring from Microsoft Visual Basic 5, And it allowed us to designed and fabricate ahigh repel it ion rate and high power(HRHP) pulsed Nd:YAG laser system, As a result of that, the current pulsewidth could be contort led 200s to 350s(step 50s) , and the pulse repetition rate could be adjusted 500pps to 1150pps. In addition, in the case of one laser head consisting of a Nd:YAG laser rod and two flashlamps , the maximum laser output of 240w was produced at the condition of 350s and 1150pps, and that of about 480w was generated at the same condition when two laser heads were arranged in cascade.

  • Objective: In this study, we analyzed kinematic changes in the start phase of speed skating before and after physical training. Method: We introduced a new strength training program (2017) that was improved in terms of exercise type and intensity [%, one repetition maximum (1RM)] compared with the previous strength training program (2016). The new program was applied to elite speed skating athletes (four males and four females). To determine the improvement in starting technique, we recorded race images during the start phase of the 500-m race held in 2016 and 2017. The race images were collected using five high-speed cameras and kinematic characteristics of the start phase were analyzed by three-dimensional image analysis. Results: The 1RMs were improved by 11% on an average after the strength training. In 2017, records of four out of the eight athletes were shortened in terms of the initial lap time (100 m), and 500-m records were shortened in six athletes. The time to nine strokes was shortened in five athletes, and the ratio of correct kinetic chain was increased or maintained at a high level in six athletes. Conclusion: In this study, the new strength training program (2017), applied to elite speed skating athletes, showed a positive effect on starting technique and reduced the record times.

  • Conventional PW Doppler systems suffer from the ambiguity of measured blood velocities due to the spectrum aliasing when the corresponding Doppler frequencies are greater than the Nyquist frequency. Base-line shift is a customary method for dealiasing the Doppler spectrums. I lowever, Doppler audio signals still remain unchanged even when the base-line shift method is applied. This paper de scribes an method for dealiasing both the Doppler spectra and audio signals by using sampling rate expansion, frequency shifting, and filtering poerations. For undirectional flows, the method can increase the maximum detectable Doppler frequency from the Nyquist limit of one-half of the Pulse Repetition Frequency(PRF) to the PRF. Experiments with real data have been performed to verify the proposed method.

  • [Purpose] To date, there have been no studies on the response of wrist tremor to increased muscle activity during exercise. This study aimed to evaluate the wrist tremor response with increasing muscle activity during bench press exercise. [Methods] Triceps muscle activity and wrist tremor response were measured by electromyography and an accelerometer, respectively, during bench press exercise in 11 healthy men without weight-training experience. Subjects performed bench press at 30% repetition maximum (RM), and the rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and lactate concentration were measured before and after exercise. One week later, an equivalent number of bench presses at 30% RM was performed without weight load as a control trial (CT). [Results] RPEs and lactate concentrations significantly increased after resistance exercise (30% RM) from 7.4 to 14.3 and 1.7 to 4.9, respectively (P<.01), but no such difference was observed in the CT. Muscle activity linearly increased during the 30% RM exercise, and wrist tremors were shown to linearly decrease. A strong negative correlation was observed between the two variables (r=-0.88, P<.001). [Conclusion] We found that wrist tremors during resistance exercise, as measured using an accelerometer, can be used to predict muscle activity.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of maximum and endurance resistance exercises on total work, blood viscosity, and erythrocyte volume ratio. The study subjects were selected as 15 men in their twenties with 12 months or more of resistance exercise experience, and the bench press 1RM was measured before the experiment, and the experiment for each condition was cross-allocated at intervals of one week, and the maximum repetition was performed in 6 sets. As a result, the total amount of exercise showed that the muscular endurance strength was higher than that of the maximum muscular strength (p<.001), and the blood viscosity and erythrocyte volume ratio were higher after exercise than before (p<.01) regardless of the total exercise amount. In summary, it was found that blood viscosity was not affected by exercise intensity and amount of exercise, and increased with one-time resistance exercise. This is clinically significant in constructing a resistance exercise program, and it is considered to be a reference material in creating an exercise program for clinical patients related to vascular disease.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of three different plates($0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ$}, $20^{\circ}$)under heels on the lower limb muscles and erector spinae during squat exercise. Ten high school korean traditional wrestling players(age: $18.5{\pm}0.7$, weight: $1972.2{\pm}128.5N$, height: $177.8{\pm}6.0cm$, weight of barbell: $1004.5{\pm}132.4N$) performed squat exercise using three different tilting plates under heels at a cadence of 40beats/sec with 80% one repetition maximum load. Surface electrodes were placed on the participants' left and right erector spinae, and rectus femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, tibialis anterior, biceps femoris, medial gastrocnemius, and lateral gastrocnemius in the right lower extremity. One S-VHS camcorder(Panasonic AG456, 60fields/s) was placed 10m to the side of the participant. To synchronize the video and EMG data, a synchronization unit was used for this study. Average and Peak IEMG values were determined for each participant. For each variable, a one-way analysis of variance was used to determine whether there were significant differences among three different tilting plates under heels. When a significant difference was found in plates type, post hoc analyses were performed using the Tukey procedure. A confidence level of p<.05 was used to determine statistical significance. As a result of this study, maximum nEMG values of the tibialis anterior in $0^{\circ}$ plates was significantly higher than the corresponding values for the other plates during the knee extension. This increased activation in the tibialis anterior muscle indicates an increase in displacement of center of gravity of body. It is very likely that additional muscle activation are needed to stop the forward and backward movement. The results also showed that muscular activities of quadriceps femoris and erector spinae were decreased with increasing angle of plates. This suggests that increasing angle of plate may help to sustain the balance and posture of squat exercise. It is considered that very few significant differences were found among three different plates($0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$) since elite players with much experience in squat exercise, were chosen as a participant of this study. In order to obtain meaningful results regarding the tilting angle of heel plates in squat exercise, kinetic and 3D kinematic analysis will be needed in the future study.

  • The structural materials for cryogenic technology have been recently developed to support the many modern large-scale application from superconducting magnets for nuclear fusion reactor, magnetic levitation railway to LNG tankers. However it is pointed out that quenching phenomenon is one of the serious problems for the integrity of these applications, which is mainly attributed to the rapid temperature rising in the material due to some extrinsic factors of structures. From the viewpoint of fracture mechanics, it is therefore very important to clarify the mechanism of temperature rising of structural material due to cyclic loading at cryogenic temperature. From this purpose, fatigue test was carried out for high manganese steel at liquid helium temperature(4.2K) using triangular stress waveform to identify both the mechanism of temperature rising near crack tip and the effect of loading stress waveform on temperature rising near crack tip and the effect of loading stress waveforms on temperature rising. As the results, two types of temperature rising, that is, regular and burst types were observed. And a periodical temperature rising corresponding to the stress waveforms was also found. The peaks of the temperature rising were recorded near both the maximum and the minimum values of the applied stress. The sudden temperature rises, which indicated the higher values than those of periodical temperature rises under the repetition of stress, were observed at the final region of crack growth. It was shown that the peak values of the temperature rising increased with stress intensity factor range.

  • Objective: Hip abductors play a role in providing stability and movement to the lower limbs. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of hip abductor fatigue on static balance and gait in the general population. Design: One group pre-test post-test design. Methods: Thirteen university students in their twenties volunteered for the study and had underwent a functional assessment. To induce fatigue, the subjects were instructed to raise their dominant lower extremity up against a load of 50% of 1 repetition maximum while producing hip abduction in a side-lying position. Subjects were instructed to maintain an abduction speed of 30 repetitions per minute to induce fatigue. Muscle fatigue was considered to be established when subjects were unable to perform hip abduction three consecutive times along with the metronome. A post-test of balance and gait was performed immediately in order to prevent fatigue recovery. The center of pressure (COP) distance area was measured using the Zebris FDM-S Multifunction Force measuring plate. Gait performance was analyzed using the GAITRite. Results: The COP distance was increased after fatigue was induced. There was a significant increase in the standard deviation of the medio-lateral and antero-posteror distance (p<0.05). Although there was no significant difference in gait parameters, there was a significant decrease in single support time after fatigue was induced (p<0.05). Conclusions: There was an increase in static balance instability and a significant decrease in single support time during gait due to hip abductor muscle fatigue.
