Forest fire monitoring prototype system was developed by National Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) to verify the usefulness of interoperabile system to study new services of Earth observation satellite data distribution for a practical application. In this system, a standard interface of Web based GIS technology, OpenGIS Consortium (OGC) technology, was adopted. This system is also expected to encourage data sharing activities in Digital Asia Network (DAN) as a demonstration system.
In this study, two standard specifications such as GML (Geography Markup Language) from OGC (Open Geo-spatial Consortium, Inc.) and X3D (extensible 3D) from Web3D consortium were dealt with for a web-based 3D urban application without using commercialized tools. In the first step of this study, DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and 3D GIS data sets were converted to GML structure with attribute schema. Then, these GML elements were projected onto a common coordinate system, and they were converted to the X3D format for visualization on web browser. In this work, a 3D urban data model, as a simple framework model, is extended to a framework model having further detailed information, depending upon application levels. Conclusively, this study is to demonstrate for practical uses of GML and X3D in 3D urban application and this approach can be applied to other application domains regarding system integrators and data sharing communities on distributed environments.

According to the increasing use of information in the mobile web environment, web information techniques previously developed considering only a specific platform become unable to use. Such techniques need to be replaced by the web standard techniques guaranteeing interoperability and to develop a new graphic user interface required in the mobile web environment. Based on such backgrounds, this paper surveyed the standards for implementing web geographic information system(GIS) service considering mobile and desktop environments. Based on the survey results, a GIS system configured with open source is designed and web mapping clients based on ExtJs are implemented for mobile and desktop environments. For the purpose of coping with the new web standard environment, the methods and prototype system suggested and implemented in the paper can be used as a case study to implement a GIS in the use of mobile and desktop environments.
Many kinds of OGC-based web standards have been utilized in the lots of geo-spatial application fields for sharing and interoperable processing of large volume of data sets containing satellite images. As well, the number of cloud-based application services by on-demand processing of virtual machines is increasing. However, remote sensing applications using these two huge trends are globally on the initial stage. This study presents a practical linkage case with both aspects of OGC-based standard and cloud computing. Performance test is performed with the implementation result for cloud detection processing. Test objects are WPS 2.0 and two types of geo-based service environment such as web server in a single core and multiple virtual servers implemented on OpenStack cloud computing environment. Performance test unit by JMeter is five requests of GetCapabilities, DescribeProcess, Execute, GetStatus, GetResult in WPS 2.0. As the results, the performance measurement time in a cloud-based environment is faster than that of single server. It is expected that expansion of processing algorithms by WPS 2.0 and virtual processing is possible to target-oriented applications in the practical level.
Recently, there has been much interest in the e-Navigation that applies a variety of digital devices to shipboard thanks to the high interest to maritime safety and the rapid development of ICT technologies. The e-Navigation proposes a new ICT paradigm in maritime information service and maritime safety. This study proposes the shore-based maritime information service platform that enables the converged services of various kinds of maritime data and the standard ENC based on IHO S-100. The proposed maritime information service platform enables the harmonized integration, presentation and web services of ENC, sensed data such as AIS, ocean weather and currents, and geospatial data. Also, the platform enables the mobile maritime information service through WebApp or App software operating in mobile devices of smart phone or web pad. Finally, the proposed platform accommodates the standard ENC of the existing S-57 and the new S-101, and the standard web services of WMS and WMTS of ISO 19100 and OGC.
Recently, bemuse of extensive use of hydrographic information, interoperability of Marine Geographic products is very important for efficient use of geographic information systems. Open GIS Consortium(OGC) developed the Open Geodata Interoperability Specification(OpenGIS) to support the interoperability in the distributed environment, especially Geography Markup Language(GML) Implementation Specification. Geography Markup Language is an XML grammar written in XML Schema for the modelling, transporting, and storing of geographic information GML provides a variety of objects for describing geography including features, coordinate reference systems, geometry, topology, time, units of measure and generalized values. S-57 is currently the IHO standard for the exchange of digital hydrographic data. To date, it ms been used almost exclusively for encoding Electronic Navigational Charts(ENCs). Even though, S-57 is intended to support all types of hydrographic data. In order to meet this requirement, a new standard is being developed. GML will be the core encoding rule of IHO's new standard. But there has been no study that tried to develop the GML for ENC that are recognized as base mop in the Marine GIS. This paper presents the process and results on development of application schema for converting ENC into GML.
The OpenGIS Consortium has proposed a new web-mapping technology to support interoperability in web GIS environment by developing the specifications of MapServer and GML. In this environment, the MapServer transforms legacy spatial data into GML data, and clients display them on standard web browsers. This web-mapping testbed proposes methods for discovering, accessing, integrating and displaying GIS information except processing of spatial operations which are essential services in GIS environment. This paper proposes the method for executing spatial operations on GML data which are overlays of different map layers in legacy data servers. To support spatial operations on GML data in web GIS environment, this paper designs and implements GDOM based on the W3C's DOM Specifications and OGC's Simple Features Specifications. This paper shows the specifications and implementation of GDOM and the process of spatial operations in web-mapping testbed environment.
Recently, new GIS applications such as gee portal and spatial data infrastructure are emerging. These are related to web computing techniques or methodologies based on web 2.0 paradigm, open API of portal, open source GIS, and international GIS standards which are independently on developing. The product of these applications can be realized in the linkage of those components. In this study, a case implementation concerning linkage with Google maps API and open source middleware named Deegree is carried out, and the results are discussed for open source uses in geo portal. Open source middleware supports various levels and types of OGC standards, so that it enables web publishing in the several web standard formats and data exchanges and interoperable uses between external database servers. Also the (unction extensions and the multi tier-based architecture within geo portal for specific purpose are possible.
SWE(Sensor Web Enablement) is the standard platform of OGC for the sensor data service. SWE is only focusing in the data transmission protocols, but supporting the semantic decision. Sensor data service is the decision service of the status whether is on normal or not. In this study, we study the semantic decision model of the sensor data. It can support the context-aware service based on the decision information.

GML is a mark-up language which is suggested by OGC(Open GIS Consortium) for use of encoding standard concerning with storing and transferring Geographic information. For general spatial network database, researches supporting GML documents can be classified into three categories : parsing, storing, and retrieval of GML documents. Among them, the 'Storing of GML document' is essential for efficient GML document retrieval. However, There is little research on schema for storing GML documents. In addition, the existing schema for storing XML documents can't be used for GML documents due to geographic information. Therefore, In this paper, we propose efficient schema for storing GML documents In addition, we do performance evaluation of the GML schema.
