CQI Generation Method for MIMO-OFDM System in Multipath Fading Channels (다중경로 페이딩 채널에서 MIMO-OFDM 시스템을 위한 CQI 생성방법)

  • 본 논문은 다중경로 페이딩 채널에서 폐루프 MIMO-OFDM 시스템을 구현할 때 효율적인 피드백 정보를 제공하기 위한 채널 품질 지시자(Channel Quality Indicator, CQI)를 결정하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 다중경로 페이딩에서 OFDM심볼의 부반송파들이 주파수영역에서 서로 다른 채널이득을 경험할 수 있고 여러 채널행렬 중에서 어느 채널행렬에 기반해서 채널 상태를 반영하는 채널대표값을 계산해야 하는지 분명하지 않다. 따라서 수신측에서 송신측으로 피드백하기 위해서 하나의 CQI정보를 생성하는데 필요한 채널 대표값이 필요하다. 채널 대표값을 구할 때 쉽게 생각 할 수 있는 방법인 기준신호의 평균 채널행렬을 이용하는 경우에는 채널상태를 정확히 반영하지 못하고 기준신호의 MMSE검출 후 SNR을 검출하는 방식은 채널상태를 정확히 반영해서 성능을 향상시키지만 많은 연산량을 필요로 한다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 허미시안 연산된 값을 채널 행렬 평균화해서 채널상태를 정확하게 반영하고 연산량을 줄이는 것에 중점을 두고 있다.

Performance Evaluation of High-performance MIMO-OFDM System using Carrier Interferometry Codes in Frequency Selective Fading Channels (주파수 선택적 페이딩 채널에서 반송파 간섭 부호를 이용한 고성능 MIMO-OFDM 시스템의 성능분석)

  • MIMO system takes advantage of the spatial diversity obtained by spatially separated antennas for high- performance and high-capacity broadband wireless access. In this paper, we propose Carrier Interferometry coded MIMO-OFDM system (MIMO-CI/OFDM) which provides frequency and spatial diversity. One combined diversity gains featly improve the performance of OFDM systems. To perform a performance analysis, we have used SPW platform that provides an easy tool to analyze the performance. The results show that the performance of MIMO-CI/OFDM shows an approximately 4dB gain over the MIMO-OFDM even in highly frequency selective fading channels.

Performance Analysis of OFDM Systems with Turbo Code in a Satellite Broadcasting Channel (위성 방송 채널에서 터보 부호화된 OFDM 시스템의 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, performance of OFDM systems with turbo code is analyzed and simulated in a satellite broadcasting channel. The performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability. The satellite channel is modeled as a combination of Rayleigh fading with shadowing and Rician fading channels. As turbo decoding algorithms, MAP (maximum a posteriori), Max-Log-MAP, and SOVA (soft decision Viterbi output) algorithms are chosen and their performances are compared. From simulation results, it is demonstrated that Max-Log-MAP algorithm is promising in terms of performance and complexity. It is shown that performance is substantially improved by increasing the number of iterations and interleaver length of a turbo encoder. The results in this paper can be applied to OFDM-based satellite broadcasting systems.

  • It is very important to reduce the PAPR(Peak to Average Power Ratio) in the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) communication system. The proposed method in this paper is an effective PAPR reduction method using the Golay complementary codes without my side information. There are some PAPR reduction methods with the complementary code pairs or sequences. They are usually a type of the forward ewer correction codes so that they produce more redundancies and lower down the code rate. Because of this, the information rate may be cut down or more bandwidth must be required. In this paper, we propose a PAPR reduction method that uses the multi-phase complementary code f3r converting the 4-QAM into 16-QAM constellation. It does not change the code rate and does not require the side information.

A Study on OFDM Technique for High-speed Data Transmission in Underwater (수중에서 고속 데이터 전송을 위한 OFDM 기법 적용성 연구)

  • The performance of underwater wireless communication system is influenced on channel characteristic. Especially, a delay spread cause by reverberation and multi-path happen the ISI (Inter Symbol Interference) and reduces the communication performance. In this paper, we study the application of high speed data transmission in underwater to use the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technique for robust the reverberation and multi-path. we confirm the performance of communication in underwater to use the model for actually underwater channel simulation model. As a result, we acquired the BER of modulation techniques. The BER of single carrier is $2{\times}10^{-1}$ and BER of multi currier is $8{\times}10^{-2}$ in 1000m. Transmission of single carrier is 5 kbps.

  • The OFDM system is very good for the high data rate communication system. However, OFDM system has a high PAPR problem. This makes the OFDM signal distorted through the nonlinear HPA(High Power Amplifier). To solve this problem, generally, simple PAPR reduction methods have been considered. However, in this paper, we introduce IMD reduction method instead of PAPR. PAPR is the signal property and the IMD is signal component of the HPA output, which degrades the communication quality. So, instead of PAPR we want to use the IMD reduction method. This is to transmit a signal with the smallest distortion by considering the third order nonlinearity when the data is recovered. We use the TR method that was proposed for the PAPR reduction and we find out the BER performance of two methods. As results, we show that the IMD reduction method improves better BER performance than the PAPR reduction.

A New SLM Method using Dummy Sequence Insertion far the PAPR Reduction of the OFDM Communication System (OFDM통신 시스템의 PAPR저감을 위한 Dummy Sequence를 삽입하는 새로운 SLM 기법)

  • OFDM(orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) communications system is very attractive for the high data rate transmissionin the frequency selective fading channel. Since OFDM has high PAPR(peak-to-average power ratio), OFDM signal may be distorted by the nonlinear HPA(high power amplifier). In this paper, we propose an improved dummy sequence scheme for reducing the PAPR in OFDM communication system. This method inserts each different dummy sequence at the predefined sub-carriers fur PAPR reduction. After IFFT, the OFDM data signal with the lowest PAPR is selected to transmit. The complementary sequence is used as dummy sequence. So, it can cut down the computation time and quantity because it dose not require the peak value optimization for finding the phase rotation factor and the transmission of the side information about the rotation factor unlike the PTS method.

Performance Analysis of OFDM Communication System Cancelling the ICI by Data Conversion Method (ICI를 Data Conversion 방식으로 상쇄하는 OFDM 통신시스템과 성능분석)

  • In the multi-carrier OFDM communication system, the inter-carrier-interference(ICI) produced by phase noise in the transceiver local oscillator makes a severe influence on the system performance. In this paper, a new ICI self-cancellation scheme in the data-conversion type is proposed to reduce effectively the ICI. Also, the common phase error(CPE), ICI and carrier to interference power ratio(CIR) are found by the linear approximation of the phase noise. Then, the proposed method is compared with the conventional OFDM to analyze the efficiency of system performance improvement. When the number of subcarriers is 64, there are respectively the SNR gain of 0.6 ㏈ in the phase noise variance of 0.3 with QPSK and 1.5 ㏈ in the phase noise variance of 0.1 with 16 QAM at BER=10$\^$-3/. As a result, the performance degradation by ICI can be effectively lowered in the proposed system with ICI self. cancellation scheme, compared with the conventional OFDM system.

Performance Analysis of WFMT Modulation System Robust to ICI and Doppler Effect (부반송파간 간섭과 도플러 효과에 강한 WFMT 변조 방식의 성능 분석)

  • OFDM is very effective for the high speed communication system. However, OFDM has the problems of high PAPR and serious ICI, which is different from the single carrier system. Especially, ICI problem caused by phase noise, Doppler effect and frequency offset is main reason for poor performance since it breaks down the orthogonality between subcarriers in OFDM communication system. Therefore, WFMT modulation scheme is studied and the effect of the carrier frequency offset and phase noise is analyzed. WFMT modulation scheme is based on the wavelet theory and complex filter banks for synthesis and analysis of multichannel signal. WFHT modulation scheme keeps on the advantage of filter banks system and can be easily possible for the implementation of filter banks. In this paper, we compare ISI and ICI distortions of the WFMT and OFDM system due to the carrier frequency offset and phase noise. Also, we analyze the PAPR and BER performances in the HPA and ICI situation caused by the Doppler frequency shift and the frequency offset.

Computationally-Efficient Design of Training Symbol for Multi-Band MIMO-OFDM System (다중밴드를 사용하는 MIMO-OFDM에 적합한 연산효율적 훈련심볼의 설계)

  • In this paper, an efficient training symbol design with m-sequence is proposed for the MIMO-OFDM based next generation wireless transmission system which supports gigabits per second data rate. In the traditional blute force method, the preamble design is based on the case by case comparison with the system requirements. This paper discusses a training symbol design methodology for the MIMO-OFDM system based on the m-sequence which has been widely used in the spread spectrum communication areas due to its good correlation characteristics. Also the step-by-step design and performance verification method within the limited search space is discussed. The proposed method targets the design of the training symbol which satisfies system requirements for the packet based MIMO-OFDM wireless communication system including automatic gain control(AGC), timing synchronization, frequency and sampling offset estimation, and MIMO channel estimation.
