Effects of $Nd_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$ Addition on the Microstructures and Microwave Dielectric Properties of $BaO-Nd_2O_3-TiO_2$ System

  • The effects of $Nd_2O_3$ and $TiO_2$ addition on the microstructures and microwave dielectic properties of $BaO-Nd_2O_3-TiO_2$ system were investigated. $BaNd_2Ti_4O_{12}$ or $BaNd_2Ti_{5}O_{14}$ phases were observed for compositions based on BaO/$Nd_2O_3$ = 1 ratio. The compositions deviated from $BaO/Nd_2O_3=1$ ratio were composed of major phases of $BaNd_2Ti_4O_{12}$ or $BaNd_2Ti_5O_{14}$, and the compound of $Nd_2O_3$ and $TiO_2(Nd_2Ti_2O_7)$ or that of BaO and $TiO_2(BaTi_4O_9)$. The microstructure of ceramic with $BaO{\cdot}Nd_2O_3{\cdot}4TiO_2$ composition varied from spherical grains to needlelike grains with increasing sintering temperature. With increasing $Nd_2O_3$, the optimum sintering temperature with maximum density increased, and the dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$) and quality factor(Q) decreased due to the formation of secondary phases. With increasing $TiO_2$, the optimum sintering temperature and the dielectric constant decreased with increased Q value. And the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency, ${\tau}_f$ shifted toward positive direction. The dielectric ceramics with $BaO/Nd_2O_3=1$ showed Q values of above 2000 and dielectric constants of above 80 at 3GHz.

Inhibitory Effects of Flavonoids Isolated from the Leaves of Stewartia koreana on Nitric-oxide Production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 Cells (노각나무 잎에서 분리된 플라보노이드에 의한 대식세포에서 산화질소 생성 억제효과)

  • Five phenolic compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of leaves from Stewartia koreana, and their nitric-oxide (NO) inhibitory activities were measured to identify the major active constituents responsible for the efficacy of the extract against inflammatory reactions. These five compounds were quercetin (1), quercitrin (2), hyperin (3), quercetin-3-O-(6"-O-galloyl)-${\beta}$-D-galactopyranoside (4), and kaempferol 3-O-[2",6"-di-O-(trans-p-coumaroyl)]-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside (5). Among the separated compounds in the EtOAc fraction, compounds 4 and 5 were isolated for the first time, and no study has yet reported their anti-inflammatory effects. The compounds were identified by spectroscopic analysis, and the isolated compounds showed significant NO inhibitory effects in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. Compound 5 showed the most potent inhibitory effect (63.35% inhibition) against LPS-induced NO production compared to that of compound 1 (17.17%), compound 2 (5.0%), compound 3 (3.92%), and compound 4 (6.32%) at $10{\mu}g/ml$ concentration. NO production was inhibited by suppressing the protein expression of inducible nitric-oxide synthase in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages. These results indicate that kaempferol 3-O-[2",6"-di-O-(trans-p-coumaroyl)]-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside might be the major active compound responsible for the anti-inflammatory effects of S. koreana.

  • The effects of additives on gas sensing properties of $In_2O_3$ ethanol gas sensor were investigated. Gas sensors were fabricated by the painting method. The $In_2O_3-La_2O_3-Pt$ sensor heat treated $400^{\circ}C$ displayed fast response and recovery behavior with a maximum sensitivity to ethanol gas in air at an operating temperature of $300^{\circ}C$.

The Effects of Ag and $Y_2BaCuO_5$ on Critical Characteristics of $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ Fabricated by MPMG Method (Ag와 $Y_2BaCuO_5$ 가 고온초전도체의 임계특성에 미치는 영향)

  • $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ samples were fabricated by MPMG(Melt Powdered Melt Growth). Intitial composition of the mixed powders were prepared as follow ; $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ : $Y_2BaCuO_5$ = 1:0, 1:0.2, 1:0.3, 1:0.4. After the first melt and cooling, 5wt% to 20wt% fo Ag power was added to the powder. Effects of the different initial $Y_2BaCuO_5$ and Ag addition amount on $J_c$ and magnetization of $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ fabricated by MPMG method were investigated. The critical current density increased with the amount of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ and Ag. It was also observed that the difference between negative and positive magnetization in the magnetization hysteresis measurement at 77K was larger than the case where $Y_2BaCuO_5$and Ag were not added to the $YBa_2Cu_3O_X$ powders. It is concluded that $Y_2BaCuO_5$ sample with 40wt% amount of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ and 20wt% amount of Ag has not only the largest $J_c$ but also the improved pinning effect.

  • Effects of MnO2 addition ranged from 0.0wt% to 5.0wt% on the microstructure and dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the Pb(Zr0.52 Ti0.48)O3 Ceramics have been investigated. The solubility limit of MnO2 in Pb(Zr0.52 Ti0.48)O3 is about 0.5wt%, and MnO2 as a valence state of Mn3+ is substituted for (Zr, Ti) lattice site in PZT solid-solution. The addition of MnO2 up to 0.5wt% in Pb(Zr0.52 Ti0.48)O3 brings increase of density, but decreased of grain size and tetragonality. Dielectric constant slightly decreases, but both coupling factor(Kp) and mechanical quality factor(Qm) increase with the addition of MnO2. However, excess amount of MnO2 addition more than 0.75wt% results in rapid decrease of resistance. Dielectric constant and tan $\delta$ increase due to the second phase and inhomogeneous Mn distribution.

  • Improved performance and suppressed short-channel effects of polysilicon thin film transistors (poly-Si TFTs) with very thin electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) $N_2$O-plasma gate oxide have been investigated. Poly-Si TFTs with ECR $N_2$O-plasma oxide ($N_2$O-TFTs) show better performance as well as suppressed short-channel effects than those with conventional thermal oxide. The fabricated $N_2$O-TFTs do not show threshold voltage reduction until the gate length is reduced to 3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for n-channel and 1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ for p-channel, respectively. The improvements are due to the smooth interface, passivation effects, and strong Si ≡ N bonds.

  • The plasma spray technics has known as one of the surface modification methods to improve the mechenical properties or the functional charactristics of materials. This paper has been aimed to investigate the effects of plasma sprayed conditions, such as spray distance and arc power level, on sliding wear properties of plasma sprayed $Al_2$O$_3$-40%TiO$_2$coating layer. The sliding wear test using pin-on-disc type wear machine, has been conducted in several sliding speed for coating layer sparyed under different conditions. The result of this paper is that the wear resistance of plasma sprayed $Al_2$O$_3$-40%TiO$_2$coating layer is fluctuated with tile spray distance and the arc power level. The wear resiatance could be improved with decreasing the spray distance and with increasing the arc power level.
