어린이 영양지수로 살펴본 지역아동센터 어린이의 식생활과 영양상태 - 경주지역 - (Assessment of Nutritional Status of Children in Community Child Center by Nutrition Quotient(NQ) - Gyeongiu -)

  • The present study was performed to evaluate food behavior and nutritional status of children in a community child center using nutrition quotient according to age and growth index of children. The number of subjects enrolled in this study was 152 including 73 boys and 79 girls. Participants consisted of children from 5 to 12 years old, who visited a community child center in the area. Growth index was assessed through body mass index by height and weight and examined according to age. Subjects were divided into underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese according to questionnaire, which consisted of five categories including balance, diversity, moderation, regularity and practice, were analyzed by SPSS statistical program. Current results show significant differences in the diversity and regularity (p<0.05, p<0.001, respectively). Additionally, four items in the form of 10 questions showed significant differences related to habits of sodium-related food intake. This study design will be a useful tool in the evaluation of food behavior and nutritional status of preschoolers or elementary school children in community child centers, together with food frequency questionnaires related with sodium food intake.

혈액투석 환자의 영양장애 영향요인 (Factors Affecting Malnutrition in Hemodialysis Patients)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional status and to identify factors affecting malnutrition in hemodialysis patients. Methods: Data were collected from a convenience sample of 125 hemodialysis patients who agreed to participate in the study, between August 1 and October 4, 2014. Five structured questionnaires were used: Patient-generated Subjective Global Assessment, Simplified Nutritional Appetite Questionnaire, Self-rating Depression Scale, Fatigue Scale, and Family Support Scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, ${\chi}^2$-test, and stepwise multiple regression analysis by using SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. Results: Of 125 patients, 30.4% were found to be malnourished. Malnutrition was related to age, family household income, depression, fatigue, social support, appetite, and levels of C-reactive protein and serum albumin. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that appetite, C-reactive protein level, fatigue, and albumin level were significant factors affecting malnutrition in hemodialysis patients. Conclusion: Regular and consistent nutritional assessment is essential in hemodialysis patients. Nurses who care for hemodialysis patients need to consider the factors identified from these findings when assessing their patients' nutritional status and needs.

서울시내 탁아기관 급식의 영양적 균형 및 미생물적 품질 평가 (Assessment of Nutritional Adequacy and Microbiological Quality of Foods served in Day-care Centers)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate nutritional adequacy and microbiological quality of foods served in day-care centers, and to provide basic information and guidelines for the development of computerized standardized recipes and microbiological quality control program. Assessment was conducted for four day-care certers selected from each of the four groups categorized in the basic survey. Nutritional balance and amount of consumption of the food was calculated and microbiological analysis was conducted. The results of the study showed the followings: the nutritional assessment of food served in day-care centers indicated that energy and nutrients contents of foods were below the recommended level (RDA/3), except the case of a university day-care center; the percentage of leftovers for soups and vegetables was high, but that for a la carte was low; fecal coliform was not found in any of samples, however, the number of coliform in the salted Korean radish and salad was higher than guideline for microbial acceptability; the number of coliform checked from the surface of the cutting board was higher than acceptable level in most day-care centers.

대학생들의 영양표시에 대한 지식, 태도 및 행동 조사에 관한 연구 (The Study of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behaviors of University Students Regarding Nutritional Labeling)

  • This study investigated the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of 280 University students towards nutrition labels. The purpose of the study was to examine knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of university students regarding nutrition labeling, and whether body mass index (BMI) with nutrition labeling was associated with knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. Descriptive statistics analyzed knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of university students regarding food labeling. The ANOVA and ${\chi}^2$ analysis was evaluated and assessed for its relationship with BMI. Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis examined relationships between knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. More than 90 percent of answers relating to 11 nutritional knowledge questions were correct. Only 30% of participants answered correctly regarding questions about plan source oil and cholesterol content. Attitudes and behaviors of nutrition labels were significantly higher among participants who were obese (p<0.001). Knowledge score was positively correlated with general label usage behavior (r=.169, p<0.01), and item buying behavior (r=0.142, p<0.05). Attitude also was positively correlated with behavior (p<0.01). Nutrition labeling education efforts are needed to provide university students with a nutritional education program and information on how to read nutritional labels and apply this information to their lives. University students need to understand their need for numerous nutrients instead of merely focusing on the fat and calories of foods.

멀티미디어를 이용한 식이교육이 위절제술을 받은 위암환자의 영양상태 개선에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Multimedia Diet Education on Nutritional Status in Stomach Neoplasms Patient with Gastrectomy)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of diet education on nutritional status in patients with gastrectomy. Method: This study was designed with a nonequivalent control group pre-post test. Ten patients were assigned to the experimental group and fifteen were assigned to the control group. The experiemental group was given the diet education by multimedia including complications after gastrectomy, the way of how to prevent these complications, precautions that patients need to be follow, and food that patients should and shouldn't eat. Data were analysed with a $x^2$-test(Fisher' exact test) and Independent sample t-test, Repeated measures ANOVA, using SPSS WIN 15.0 program. Results: There were significant differences in weight, daily caloric intake, knowledge score between experimental and control group. However, there was a no significant difference in blood profile(albumin, total protein, hemoglobin) between two groups. Conclusion: This study shows that the diet education with multimedia could improve nutritional status for the patients who had gastrectomy.

우리나라 저소득층 비만여성의 식사의 질과 식사섭취패턴 특성 분석 - 2005 국민건강영양조사를 중심으로 - (Diet Quality and Food Patterns of Obese Adult Women from Low Income Classes - Based on 2005 KNHANES -)

  • This study aims to identify the dietary patterns relevant to obesity of Korean women among low income classes. Adults 20-64 years were used as study subjects from the data of 2005 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. We compared obese and normal-weight women in terms of their nutrients intake, diet quality and food patterns. Diet quality was assessed by using the Nutritional Adequacy Ratio (NAR) and Index of Nutritional Quality (INQ). Our results showed higher prevalence of obesity among lower socioeconomic status women. In men, there were no significant associations with socioeconomic status and prevalence of obesity. Higher risk of nutritional inadequacy was observed among obese women compared to normal weight women. Obese women showed significantly lower INQ for nutrients such as Ca, Fe, Vitamin A, Thiamin, Riboflavin and Vitamin C compared to other women. They consumed significantly higher amount of rice (p < 0.05) and lower amount of vegetables (p < 0.01). By contrast, obese men from low income classes showed higher intake of those nutrients. Obese men also consumed significantly higher amount of meats than normal weight men. Therefore, this study suggests that gender-specific approaches based on economic situation should be considered in developing the intervention program for managing obesity for low income classes.

Meal skipping habits and nutritional status among Ghanaian students living in Korea

  • Purpose: The consistent rise in the number of foreign students in Korea demands an accurate and detailed investigation into their dietary practices and nutritional status. For these international students, assimilation into new cultures can be stressful. The influence this process may have on dietary behaviors as well as overall health cannot be overlooked. Methods: The researchers in this study sought to investigate the nutritional status and dietary practices of Ghanaian students studying in Korea. A total of 81 Ghanaian male students with an average age of $29.4{\pm}4.0years$ were sampled between May and June 2016. Investigations were carried out on the general characteristics of the participants, their daily food and nutrient intakes using a 24-h dietary recall method, meal skipping practices, and the nutritional quality of their diets based on their meal skipping habits. Results: The study revealed that the daily nutrient intake of subjects did not fully meet the daily recommended nutrient intake (RNI) established by Ghanaian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), particularly for energy, calcium, iron, zinc, and vitamin B2 requirements. The Nutrient Adequacy Ratio (NAR) for calcium was very low, posing a deficiency risk to the participants. Meal skipping practices among participants changed significantly after arriving in Korea. The study also compared the diet quality indicators (Nutrient Adequacy Ratio and Mean Adequacy Ratio) of those who skipped meals ${\geq}7times/week$ with those who skipped meals < 7 times/week. Participants who skipped meals ${\geq}7times/week$ were shown to have lower dietary intakes of vitamins B1 and B2 than those who skipped meals < 7 times/week. Conclusion: Ultimately, the study found that meal skipping among Ghanaian students was common, and their daily nutrient intakes did not meet the set dietary standards. Those who skipped meals ${\geq}7times/week$ had lower dietary intakes of vitamins B1 and B2 than those who skipped meals < 7 times/week. Based on our study findings, we recommend that nutrition education should be organized for the Ghanaian student community in Korea using our results as a template to draw up a nutrition program that is culturally appropriate.

농촌 지역 노인의 영양 상태, 근감소증과, 노쇠의 연관성 (Association between nutritional status, sarcopenia, and frailty in rural elders)

  • 노쇠(frailty)와 근감소증(sarcopenia)은 최근 노인건강 관리에 중요한 개념이다. 근감소증은 노쇠에 영향을 주는 가장 대표적인 요인이고, 운동, 영양수준 등이 근감소증에 영향을 주는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이 연구에서는 특히 영양 수준과 근감소증, 노쇠와의 연관성을 파악하는 것을 목적으로 두었다. 연구 대상자는 경남 10개 마을 65세 이상 노인 411명으로, 성별, 연령, 학력, 동거인 유무와 같은 사회인구학적 변수를 조사하고, GDS-SF로 우울감, K-FRAIL로 노쇠, 한국판 SARC-F로 근감소증, DETERMINE으로 영양 수준을 평가하였다. 연구결과, 단순분석에서는 영양 수준과 노쇠, 근감소증 의심과는 유의한 관련이 있었다.(p<0.001) 그리고, 성별, 동거인 유무, 연령, 학력, 우울감을 보정했을 때 영양 수준은 노쇠, 근감소증 각각과 유의한 관련성을 가졌고(p<0.001), 근감소증을 보정하였을 때도 노쇠와 유의한 관련성을 가졌다.(p<0.001) 더하여, 근감소증 역시 노쇠와 유의한 관련성을 가지는 것으로 나타났다.(p<0.001) 영양 수준은 노쇠에 직접적인 영향과 근감소증을 통한 간접적 영향 모두 미칠 수 있고, 근감소증 역시 노쇠에 영향을 미치는 것으로 파악되었다. 따라서 노인들에게 근감소증과 영양 수준을 평가하고 적절한 개입을 하는 것이 필요하다.

Association between dietary flavanones intake and lipid profiles according to the presence of metabolic syndrome in Korean women with type 2 diabetes mellitus

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study was aimed at examining the association between dietary flavanones intake and lipid profiles according to the presence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Korean women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). SUBJECTS/METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis was performed among 502 female T2DM patients (non-MetS group; n = 129, MetS group; n = 373) who were recruited from the Huh's Diabetes Clinic in Seoul, Korea between 2005 and 2011. The dietary intake was assessed by a validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and the data was analyzed using the Computer Aided Nutritional Analysis program (CAN-Pro) version 4.0 software. The intake of flavanones was estimated on the basis of the flavonoid database. RESULTS: In the multiple linear regression analysis after adjustment for confounding factors, daily flavanones intake was negatively associated with CVD risk factors such as total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and apoB and apoB/apoA1 ratio only in the MetS group but not in the non-MetS group. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that the odds ratio for a higher apoB/apoA1 ratio above the median (${\geq}0.74$) was significantly low in the $4^{th}$ quartile compared to that in the $1^{st}$ quartile of dietary flavanones intake [OR: 0.477, 95% CI: 0.255-0.894, P for trend = 0.0377] in the MetS group. CONCLUSIONS: Dietary flavanones intake was inversely associated with the apoB/apoA1 ratio, suggesting a potential protective effect of flavanones against CVD in T2DM women with MetS.

식생활라이프스타일과 인구통계적 특성이 외식영양표시 외식업체의 브랜드 이미지에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of the Dietary Lifestyle and Demographic Characteristics on the Brand Image of Restaurants with Nutritional Labeling)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 식생활라이프스타일과 인구통계적 특성이 외식영양표시 외식업체의 브랜드이미지에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 외식업체의 차별화된 브랜드 이미지 전략을 수립을 위한 마케팅의 기초자료를 제공하는데 있다. 연구분석을 위해 SPSS 21.0 (ver.) 프로그램, 빈도분석 및 기술통계, 요인분석 및 신뢰도분석, 상관관계 분석, 다중선형회귀분석 등을 실시하여 가설을 검증하였다. 그 결과 거주지에서 수도권은 안전추구, 비수도권은 맛추구, 안전추구, 성별에서 남성은 건강추구, 맛추구, 안전추구, 여성은 안전추구일수록 외식영양표시 외식업체에 대한 브랜드이미지가 상승하였다. 연령에서 20대는 맛추구, 30대와 40대는 안전추구, 결혼여부에서 기혼과 미혼 모두 안전추구일수록 외식영양표시 외식업체에 대한 브랜드이미지가 상승하는 것으로 분석되었다. 즉, 식생활라이프스타일이 안전추구, 건강추구일 경우 주거지, 연령, 성별, 결혼여부, 자녀유무와 관계없이 외식영양표시 외식업체에 긍정적인 브랜드이미지를 갖고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
