Methylobacterium sp. GL-10의 유가식 배양에 의한 Methanol로 부터 Poly-$\beta$-hydroxybutyrate의 생산 (Production of Poly-$\beta$-hydroxybutyrate from Methanol by Fed-batch Cultivation of methylobacterium sp. GL-10)

  • The production of poly-$\beta$-hydroxybutyrate(PHB) from methanol by batch and fed-batch cultivations of Methylobacterium sp. GL-10 was studied. PHB accumulation was stimulated by the nutrients deficiency including, NH4+, SO42-, and K+. The nitrogen deficiency was the most critical factor for PHB accumulation. In batch cultivation, the maximum cell concentration and PHB content were 1.86g/l and 0.62g/l, respectively, with 1.0%(v/v) of methanol and 0.5g/1 of ammonium sulfate. The mass doubling time of Methylobacterum sp. GL-10 was in the range of 4-5 hrs. The cell growth and PHB accumulation were severely inhibited at the methanol concentration over than 2% (v/v). To overcome methanol Inhibition, constant feeding and intermittent feedillg fed-batch cultivations were adopted, using C/N molar ratio as a control factor. In constant feeding fed-batch process, cell concentration was increased up to 2.67g/1, and PHB yield was enhanced from 0.33 of batch culture to 0.53. The relatively low cell concentration was caused by methanol accumulated in culture broth at late growth phase. To prevent methanol accumulation and to maximize PHB production, DO-state intermittent fed-batch cultivation was attempted. The cell and PHB concentration was reached up to 4.55g/1 and 1.80g/1, respectively. It was possible to maintain methanol concentration low and also to feed nutrient of desired C/N molar ratio.

Nutritional Constraints and Possibilities for Pig Production on Smallholders Farms in Central Vietnam

  • This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional situation of pigs kept in three ecological zones of central Vietnam: Upland, Lowland and Coastal Area. An interview-based questionnaire was made and surveys were conducted in 27 villages and data were collected from 1,200 participating households. The current study showed that amounts of feed and crude protein content in the diets for fattening pigs and sows are deficient for all three regions. Amounts of feed as DM (kg/d) fed to growing pigs of 20-50 kg BW was deficient by 0.54 kg (29%) in Lowland, 0.53 kg (28.6%) in the Coastal area and 0.42 kg (22.4%) in Upland. The deficiency in CP in the diets of growing pigs in this period (20-50 kg) was largest at 20.7 g/d (62.1%) in Lowland, following by 22.1 g/d (66.4%) in Coastal and 23.2 g/d (69.7%) in Upland. Amount of feed as DM (kg/d) fed to growing pigs of 50-90 kg BW had a deficiency of 1.26 (48.9%), 1.25 (51.2%) and 1.14 (51.5%) kg/d in Lowland, Coastal and Upland, respectively. The deficiencies in crude protein in the growing diet during this period in Lowland, Coastal and Upland regions were 27 g/d (68.3%), 29 g/d (71.9%) and 30 g/d (74.6%), respectively. The deficiency in DM intake (kg/d) of pregnant sows in the Lowland area was 0.3 kg (15%), 0.33 kg (16%) in the Coastal area and 0.47 kg (23.5%) in the Upland area. Crude protein content in the diet of pregnant sows raised in Lowland was 8 g/d (32.0%) deficient, in the Coastal region the deficiency was 11 g/d (42.7%) and in Upland this deficiency was 15 g/d (61.2%). The deficiency in DM intake (kg/d) of lactating sows raised in Lowland was 1.47 kg (31.1%), in the Coastal area this was 1.69 kg (39.2%) and in Upland it was most deficient at 2.46 kg (57.1%). The lack of crude protein content in the diets of sows raised in Lowland was 45 g/d (63.4%), in the Coastal region it was 46 g/d (65%), and in Upland it was 55 g/d (78.9%). The low input of feed in these areas is especially due to low quality and to the insufficient intake of nutrients by the pig. As a result, production and income of farmers are low.

Nutrient Intake Status of Koreans by Income Level and Age Group Analyzed from 2001 National Health and Nutrition Survey Data

  • In order to investigate the differences of nutrient intakes by the economic status and different age groups and to identify the nutritional risk group and its specific nutrition problem, 2001 Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey were analyzed. The subject's numbers of 9,391 were classified into four classes such as low (14.2%), medium (37.2%), high (26.0%), and high above (22.6%) on the basis of the family monthly income and the 2001 Korean minimum cost of living according to the family size. Mean intakes of energy and all nutrients assessed by the RDAs, lipid-energy %, and MAR were increased as the economic status were going up. Na intake expressed per 1,000kcal was in reverse. Nearly a half(45.5%) of the low-income people seemed to take nutritionally inadequate diet in consideration with MAR values. Deficiencies of iron and even energy in the toddlers (1 to 2 years) of low-income class were of great concern. Adolescent age group has been observed that their calcium and iron intakes, and possibly energy, were appeared to be the most deficient among all the age groups regardless of the economic status. For the elderly in all the economic status except high-above class, calcium, vitamin A, and riboflavin were commonly deficient nutrients. Calcium deficiency was appeared throughout nearly all the ages except toddlers and all the economic classes. Even in the high-above class 57.3% took insufficient amount of calcium.

유아의 우유군의 섭취가 식이의 다양성과 영양소 섭취의 적정도에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Milk Group Intake to Dietary Diversity Score and Nutrient Adequacy Ratio among Toddler)

  • This research was conduced to 1) examine the influence of milk group intake on the dietary, considering dietary diversity and nutrient adequacy, 2) identify which foods truly contribute to the intake of specific nutrients 3) point out the dietary problems of this age group. The subjects were 664(male 357, female 307) healthy toddlers of the ages of 12-36 months, who had neither been taking any medicine-type supplements nor had any diseases that affect the dietary intakes, chosen among the outpatients of university and private hospitals in Seoul and Kyonggi province during Mach-August, 1999. The 24 hour recall method and CAN Pro(food analysis program) were used to analyze the amount of nutrient intake. The grouping of the subjects for the analysis by monthly age was based on the 98 Korean Child growth standard. The results that the milk group intake showed significant negative correlations with the grain group(r=-0.194, p<0.01), the vegetable group(r=-0.115, p<0.01) and the fruit group(r=-0.125, p<0.01). It also showed that the more the milk group intake, the lower the Dietary Diversity Score(r=-0.131, p<0.01), and the more the intake of raw milk, the more dificient the intake of iron(r=-0.211, p<0.01), vitamin A(r=-0.169,p<0.01), vitamin B$_1$(r=-0.078, p<0.05) and vitamin C(r=-0.187, p<0.01). Foods contributory to nutrient intake for of 12-14 months of were mostly infant formula, and the contribution ratio was high. In the age of 15-17 months, the subjects obtained most of the nutrients from raw milk., liquid-type yoghurt, soybean milk, cooked rice, etc. As for iron intake, the age of 21-23 month obtained the most from ionic drinks, and 24-29 months from raw milk, chocolate cakes, ionic drinks, etc. Though the NAR(Nutrient Adequacy Ratio) and MAR(Mean Adequacy Ratio) generally tended to increase accordingly with the DDs, as for nutrients Ca, vitamin A, vitamin B$_1$, and vitamin C the NAR marked the highest when the DDS marked the lowest(due to infant formula). And for iron, even when the DDS was 5 the NAR value was low. Im conclusion, the more the milk group intake, the lower was the dietary diversity. High dependency on infant formula and others from milk group over the age of 12 months proved to result in a decrease of nutritious solid food intake, iron deficiency and a low dietary diversity score, which can lead to an unbalanced diet. Therefore, nutrition education towards mothers/caretakers of toddler is of urgent need, in order to reduce the fluid milk group intake of low nutritional density and to provide various solid foods the children. 2020 한국인 영양소 섭취기준 제·개정: 교훈과 도전 (The development of the 2020 Dietary Reference Intakes for Korean population: Lessons and challenges)

  • The discovery of the relationship between nutrients and deficiency diseases during the 100 years from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s was a breakthrough that led to advances in the study of nutrition. The Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) were created as a quantitative standard for avoiding diseases caused by nutrient deficiency. In addition, a reductionism paradigm has become generally accepted among nutrition scholars in health and disease, which focused on the properties of individual nutrients, content in foods, cellular levels, and mechanisms of action. The reductionist paradigm worked very well for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition diseases. However, as the incidence of nutrient deficiencies decreased and that of chronic diseases increased, the nutrition goals have been changed to secure safe and adequate nutrient intake and to reduce chronic disease risks. Accordingly, Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs), a set of nutrient-based reference values, were designed to replace the RDA. The revised Korean DRIs were published for 40 nutrients in 2020. However, there is still room for improvement in the reference intake levels targeted at reducing the risk of chronic disease. The reductionist approach can no longer be practical because chronic diseases are related to the interactions between multi-components in the foods and multi-targets in the body. Therefore, a second innovative leap is needed following the nutrition development breakthrough made over 100 years ago. To this end, the nutrition paradigm must evolve from reductionism to a holism approach. Cutting-edge scientific technologies, such as metabolomics, transcriptomics, microbiomics, and bioinformatics, should also be acceptable in nutrition science based on the knowledge gained from basic nutrition studies.

The Nutrition Survey, Nutrition Surveillance and Nutrition Status in China

  • With the prosperous economy, the status of diet and nutrition among the urban and rural Chinese population has been improved significantly. This paper will focuses on three main surveys in China. (1)'Food and Nutrition Surveillance System in China': Phase I focused on analysis of previous data. Phase II was a pilot survey initiated in Beijing, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Ningxia, Zhejiang, Guangzhou, and Sichuan in 1990. (2) 'The China Health and Nutrition Survey' is an ongoing longitudinal project covered 8(9) provinces in 1991,1993,1997,2000. This paper will analysis the adults aged 18 45 of 1991, 1993, 1997, and 2000. (3) Survey on the status of nutrition and health of the Chinese (2002) is an across sectional study covered 31 provinces, autonomous region and the municipalities. The data was used to analyze the status of food consumption and dietary nutrients intake of Chinese population. In the past ten years, the prevalence of malnutrition and nutrition deficiency has been continuously decreased. The consumptions of animal products, milk, and edible oil have been increased, while the dairy and legume products consumption decreased. The unbalance was showed with a downward trend in cereals, vegetables and fruits consumption and a significant increase in animal products and oil intake among urban people. Dietary pattern of some subjects went away to 'high energy density' diet. The deficiency of calcium, retinal and ascorbic acid etc, especially in the rural areas still exist. China is undergoing a remarkable, but undesirable, rapid transition towards a stage of the nutrition transition characterized by high rates of DR NCDs in a very short time. China is facing the dual challenges of nutrition deficiency and nutrition imbalance. The results can help to understand the dietary structure and the status of nutrition among Chinese people over the past years. It will provide the basis for formulating relevant state policies.

  • From the 24 kinds of literature on the Consumptive disease, it can be concluded as follows. 1. The consumptive disease is the Imparement of deficiency type due to overstrain. it is a general term for these all symptom such as and Deficiency of primordial Qi and Essence of life and blood. 2. The excessive fire due to Yin-Deficiency and the injury of spleen-stomach is accounted much of the cause of Consumptive disease. 3. The main cause of the Hepatic asthenia are the Anger, Consumption and over-thinking. 4. The symptoms of the Consumptive disease are mainly caused by the functional disorder of Liver taking charge of tendons. storing and regulating blood, Heart being in charge of blood circulation. taking charge of mental activities. Spleen taking charge of muscles, transforting and transforming nutrients. Lung taking charge of skins and hairs, taking charge of respirations, Kidney taking charge of bones, storing essence of life. 5. The main symptoms of Hepatic asthenia are flaccidity of muscles and temeons which causes limited movement caused by muscular atonia and the loss of bightness of eyes. 6. The main treatments of Consumptive disease are the invigorating the Spleen-stomach and the invigorating the Kidney and storing essence of life. 7. The treatments of Hepatic asthenia are the moderating the middle and the nourishing the muscles and tendons.

해바라기의 붕소결핍(硼素缺乏) (Boron deficiency of sunflower (Helianthus annuus.))

  • 해바라기의 생육불량(生育不良) 원인(原因)을 토양(土壤) 및 식물체(植物體) 분석(分析)에 의(依)하여 본 결과 붕소결핍(硼素缺乏)으로 나타났으며 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 붕소결핍(硼素缺乏)은 토양(土壤)의 유효붕소함량(有効硼素含量)(열수침출(熱水浸出))이 적은데 기인(基因)했으며 유효붕소(有効硼素) 임계농도(臨界濃度)는 0.17ppm으로 나타났다. 2. 식물체(植物體)에서의 임계농도(臨界濃度)는 화부(花部)(두부(頭部))에서 15ppm 근(根)에서는 10ppm으로 나타났다. 상위엽(上位葉)으로 갈수록 B함량(含量)은 상당히 감소하였다. 3. 붕소(硼素)가 적은 토양(土壤)은 Ca가 많았으며 유기물(有機物)이나 산도(酸度) 기타 양분(養分)과의 관계가 불확실했다. 4. 붕소결핍(硼素缺乏)된 식물체(植物體)는 Ca와 P가 두부(頭部)에는 높고 근부(根部)에 낮으며 N는 높고 K는 낮은 편이며 Mg와 Fe는 관계가 불확실했다. 5. 붕소결핍(硼素缺乏)은 줄기와 상부(上部)의 갈변고사(褐變枯死) 및 줄기와 뿌리가 부분적으로 파열(破裂)되고 흑변(黑變)하였다.

부지화 잎의 화학성분에 기반한 질소결핍 여부 구분 머신러닝 모델 개발 (Development of Machine Learning Models Classifying Nitrogen Deficiency Based on Leaf Chemical Properties in Shiranuhi (Citrus unshiu × C. sinensis))

  • 본 연구에서는 부지화 잎의 무기양분 농도 측정 결과를 바탕으로 질소를 제외한 다른 무기양분의 함량을 통해서 잎의 질소 결핍 여부를 구분하는 머신러닝 모델을 개발하였다. 그러기 위해서 부지화의 질소결핍구와 대조구의 잎 샘플을 분석한 36개의 데이터를 부트스트랩핑 방법을 통해서 학습용 데이터셋 1,000 여 개로 증량시켰다. 이를 이용해 학습한 각 모델을 테스트한 결과, gradient boosting 모델이 가장 우수한 분류성능을 보여주었다. 본 모델을 이용해 질소함량을 직접적으로 분석할 수 없는 경우, 잎의 무기성분 함량에 기반하여 질소결핍 가능성 여부를 판단해 질소가 부족한 부지화 나무를 분별하고, 정확한 질소함량을 측정하게 유도하여 그에 기초한 적정 질소비료 시비를 가능케 하고자 하였다.

여름과 겨울철 남해의 영양염 분포 특성 (Characteristics of Nutrients Distribution in Summer and Winter in the South Sea)

  • 여름과 겨울철 남해의 해수에 포함되어 있는 영양염의 분포 특성을 수온, 염분, 겉보기 산소 소모량, pH 등의 환경 인자들과의 상관도를 통해 파악하고자 하였다. 여름철에 영양염의 분포는 염분보다는 수온과 양호한 상관도를 보였으며 생물 활동과 관련이 갚은 pH, 겉보기 산소 소모량과 유의한 상관관계를 보였다. 이로 보아 여름철에 형성되는 염전선역에서 일차생산자에 의한 영양염 소비가 활발하여 염분과 영양염과의 상관성을 강력하게 변형시키는 것으로 판단된다. 겨울철에는 수온이 영양염과 가장 유의한 상관관계를 나타내어 수직 혼합된 냉수와 북상하는 난류의 세력이 만나는 열전선의 위치가 영양염 분포에 가장 중요한 요인으로 분석되었다. 여름철에 가장 우수한 상관도를 보였던 ($R^2$ >0.6) pH의 경우 겨울철에 생물 활동이 미약하여 상관도가 크게 낮아졌다($R^2$ <0.5). 수심에 대해 적분한 질산염+아질산염 인산염 규산염의 값은 각기 여름철에는 321 $mmol{\cdot}m^{-2}$, 23 $mmol{\cdot}m^{-2}$, 637 $mmol{\cdot}m^{-2}$이었고 겨울철에는 261 $mmol{\cdot}m^{-2}$, 31 $mmol{\cdot}m^{-2}$, 742 $mmol{\cdot}m^{-2}$로 계산되었다. 영양염의 질소 대 인의 비는 여름철에는 인이 상대적으로 부족한 반면 겨울철에는 이와 반대로 질소가 결핍되어 우기에 강우와 하천을 통한 질소의 유입이 남해 생태계 유지에 중요한 역할을 하는 것으로 판단된다.
