This study was designed to investigate differences in some aspects of value conceptions in fundamentals of nursing functions between nursing service personnel and nurse-educators. The purpose of the study was to identify the difference of value conceptions between the hospital nurses and school instructors, to contribute as a reference in strengthening the educational program in establishing nay hinder professional growth. The questionaries of this study were focused in the following aspects: 1) establishment of nursing service management system, 2) strengthening of the professionalization of nursing service, 3) hindrance in accomplishment of independent nursing functions, 4) communication skills in nurse-patient relationship, 5) activities directly related to nursing care planning, 6) communication skills in nurse-doctor relationship, 7) attitude towards taking responsibilities for patient- centered nursing approach, and 8) nursing educational approach towards preparation of professional competence in practicing independent nursing functions. 265 graduate nurses from 14 general hospitals and 88 nursing instructors from 18 schools, collegiate and diploma, were sampled. The main findings of the study were as follows; 1. Both groups responded highly in the lack of public recognition of nursing profession and hospital administrators support in establishment of nursing service management system. Further investigation is needed to define some relationship between the intrinsic and extrinsic factors which might give influence to the professional development. 2. while hospital nursing personnel responded on environmental pressure such as a heavy nursing load as the factor giving hindrance to independent nursing functions, the nurse educators responded highly on lack of nursing competence of individual nurses. An emphasis should be placed on the development of nursing interaction through professional education. If the professional model is not well established, nursing function will be limited to medical assistance. 3. 3. The patient-centered approach for nurse-patient communication had given positive respond for both group, tut lacks in team concept in problem solving process. There exist a social distance between nurses and other professional co-workers in the hospital hierarchy. 4. It was indicated that, as an intrinsic factor in the development of nursing service and nursing education, building up a philosophical basis is an utmost importance. This question is opened for further and extensive study to clarify whether existence of philosophical absence or philosophical stasis in nursing profession hinders the development.
Purpose: This study describes the associations between shift work factors, workplace violence bystander types, and the missed nursing care of hospital nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among hospital nurses using structured questionnaires related to shift work factors, workplace violence bystander types, and missed nursing care. The study participants were 199 nurses caring for adult patients and working in two tertiary hospitals. Results: The missed nursing care of the participants showed a statistically significant positive correlation with the facilitating bystander (r=.40, p<.001) and abdicating bystander (r=.28, p<.001) among the workplace violence bystander types. However, rest time during duty showed a significant negative correlation (r=-.16, p=.026). A regression model with control variables (department and clinical career), shift work factors, and workplace violence bystander types explained approximately 25% of missed nursing care of the study participants. Further, the facilitating bystander type influenced the missed nursing care of hospital nurses. Conclusion: As a result of examining the associations between shift work factors, workplace violence bystander types, and missed nursing care of hospital nurses, it was confirmed that missed nursing care was influenced by the facilitating bystander type. It is necessary to improve the nursing culture within the department so that nurses do not behave as negative bystanders to workplace violence.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model of burnout of the critical care nurses based on the job demand-resource model. Methods: A structured questionnaire was completed by 414 critical care nurses. The relationships between concepts of job stress, empathic ability, resilience, job satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout were analyzed. Using SPSS WIN 22.0 and AMOS 22.0 programs, the direct and indirect effects of factors affecting burnout among critical care nurses were calculated and modelled. Results: The modified model was yielded as follows: Chi-square= 216.59, GFI= .93, AGFI= .89, NFI= .90, CFI= .93, RMSEA= .07, SRMR= .06 and showed good fit indices. Job satisfaction and compassion fatigue had mediation effects between other three exogenous variables and burnout. Conclusion: The major findings of this study indicate that it is important to develop a support program for critical care nurse in order to improve their job satisfaction and ameliorate their compassion fatigue.

Purpose: A National survey was conducted to assess neonatal intensive care nurses' practice, barriers, knowledge, and belief regarding Kangaroo Care (KC). Methods: A descriptive survey was conducted. Kangaroo care questionares were sent to nurses in all hospitals in Korea whose were identified as providing neonatal intensive care services(N=263). Descriptive statistics were used to summarized the data. Results: Among 67 neonatal care units, 61.1% adapted KC in their practice. About 60% of nurses in the KC providing hospital actually practiced KC. Major barrier of practicing KC were infant safety concerns, as well as work load of nurses. Respondants who had practiced KC were more knowledgable and were more positive in their belief regarding KC. Conclusion: The findings suggest that in order to overcome barriers of practicing KC, educational programs are recommended designed for nurses. In addition, development of KC practice guideline is necessary to facilicate successful and safe KC.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to assess hospital nurses' knowledge, importance and performance in keeping nursing records. Methods: The research design was a descriptive study. The sample for this study was 186 nurses with at least one year of work experience at a hospital with more than 800 beds in Seoul. Knowledge was self-reported using the Nurse Charting Knowledge Scale. Importance and performance were rated on a 4-point scale of 26 items. Data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 program and IPA. Results: This study showed significant results that knowledge, importance and performance for keeping record are related to each other. The importance and performance of nurse's records were relatively higher than the mean. In the IPA Matrix, there were 2 items requiring improvement, 13 items requiring maintenance, and 11 items with low priority. Conclusion: Therefore, awareness of the importance of record keeping and continuous education on nursing record knowledge should be provided so that nurses can improve their record keeping skills.

Proper management and prevention of dysphagia are urgently needed in acute care of stroke patients in Korea. However, no highly sensitive and accessible nurse-led screening tools have been validated within the Korean settings. The purpose of this study was to validate a screening tool led by nurses to identify dysphagia and aspiration risks among acute stroke patients. Registered nurses (RNs) screened 131 residents from a university hospital in South Korea using the Korean version of the Standardized Swallowing Assessment (K-SSA). Results were validated against those from the Gugging Swallowing Screen (GUSS). Compared to results from the GUSS, with 9- and 14-point cutoffs, the K-SSA had a sensitivity of 0.80 and specificity of 0.90 [95% CI 0.806, 0.992] for screening dysphagia and 1.00 sensitivity and 0.94 specificity [95% CI 0.862, 1.000] for screening aspiration risks. The K-SSA demonstrated excellent sensitivity and specificity for screening individuals at risk of dysphagia and aspiration when led by RNs for acute stroke patients.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of training and implementation of a pediatric peripheral intravenous infusion protocol on the nurses' performance and infusion complication rate. Methods: A quasiexperimental study using a posttest comparison of a one group pretest-time series design was utilized. This method was developed to measure nursing knowledge and performance based on a pediatric peripheral intravenous infusion protocol. To calculate the occurrence rate of complications, the number of complications were divided into the number of intravenous insertions. Results: It was shown that the training developed by the study team in 2015 contributed to nurses' increased knowledge, as well as improved job performance. Furthermore, the implementation of the protocol revealed that the number of peripheral intravenous insertions, an invasive procedure, decreased. Additionally, the nursing workload related to pediatric intravenous infusions was reduced. Conclusion: This protocol may contribute to the improved scientific quality and efficiency of nursing management of peripheral intravenous infusions.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to define nursing informatics competency and self-leadership perceived by hospital nurses and the relationship between those variables. Method: The subjects of this study were 215 nurses who had worked in one university hospital in P city. For this study the following study tools were used: the Staggers Nursing Computer Experience Questionnaire and self-leadership scale. Data was analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The mean score of each item in informatics skill domain and informatics knowledge domain $2.93{\pm}.49$ and $3.40{\pm}.50$. The average score of self-leadership was $3.39{\pm}.53$. 'Self-leadership' was positively related with 'nursing informatics competency'. Conclusion: This study proved that there were significant positive correlation between nursing informatics competency and self-leadership. These results suggested that it would be necessary to develop regular educational program which promotes the nurses' self-leadership as well as nursing informatics competency in schools. And practical education program for nurses must be planned continuously for informatics competency in hospitals.

Purpose: This study was to investigate nursing professionalism and job satisfaction of nurses in general hospital. The subjects were 806 nurses in 8 general hospitals where had more than 400 beds. Method: The data was collected from April 21, 2004 to May 6, 2004 using a structured Questionnaire and analyzed with frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and Pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS of window V. 10.0 program. Result: The mean score of nursing professionalism was 3.67. In each realm, the score of social benefit promotion was the highest as 4.14 and that of autonomy was the lowest as 3.19. The mean score of job satisfaction was 2.74. In each realm, the score of interaction was the highest as 3.26 and that of wage was the lowest as 2.20. Nursing professionalism was significantly different according to age, academic qualification, work experience and position. And job satisfaction was significantly different according to age, religion, work experience, position and department. Nursing professionalism had a significant correlation with job satisfaction (r=.257, p<.001). Conclusions: When the Autonomy in nursing job performance, well-defined work limit were guaranteed in the hospital, nurses' professionalism will be enhance. It is recommended that the strategies about nurse's long-term service and efficient hospital administration should be needed for nurse's job satisfaction.

Purpose: This study was conducted to develop the nursing process based performance measurement tool and the evidence based care standards for nursing care in medication management and blood transfusion. Methods: The care standards and performance measurement tool were drafted through comprehensive review of relevant literature, national guidelines, hospital protocols, and standards of recognized international accrediting bodies. The proposed care standards and performance measurement tool were reviewed by the panel of experts and refined based on the panel's suggestions. Final care standards and performance measurement tool were validated by surveying the hospital nurses. Results: All items of the performance measurement tool for medication management and blood transfusion were evaluated appropriate. All contents of care standards and the measurable elements except the evaluation of discharge education were appropriate. The performance measurement tool developed in this study was found to be acceptable as a tool to evaluate quality of nursing care in medication management and blood transfusion. Conclusion: The outcomes of this study including the performance measurement tool and evidence based care standards would be the important indicators to monitor whether necessary nursing care is implemented and be the useful primary resources to improve quality of nursing care services.
