  • Purpose: This study investigated the effects of reeducation of nursing process on nurses' expertise, critical thinking disposition, and clinical decision making. Methods: Data were collected from March to June, 2007. The subjects were 47 Academic Credit Bank System Student Nurses. They were taught 'nursing process' during 1 semester(15weeks). 47 nurses were divided into three groups according to clinical experience(under 3 years, 3 to under 5 years, 5 years or more). After 15 weeks, the effects of education were compared using a paired t-test between pre-test and post-test. Results: There was a significant difference in the 3 to under 5 years experienced nurses's expertise(t=-3.659, p=.004) between the pre-test and post-test. There was a significant difference in the 5 years or more experienced nurses's expertise(t=-5.781, p<.001) and critical thinking disposition(t=-3.345, p=.003) between the pre-test and post-test. There were no significant differences in clinical decision making(accuracy, proficiency, and confidence) of 3 groups. Conclusion: Reeducation of nursing process is a valuable teaching and an evaluation strategy for 5 years or more experienced nurses to improve expertise and critical thinking disposition. We need to develop continuing education program for improving nurses' clinical decision making.

  • This study was directed at analysing nursing practice in one oriental medicine hospital. In this study, the nurses were chosen from two units at one oriental medicine hospital. Using the worksampling method, a total of 780 series of nursing actions were collected over thirteen days. this study had two findings. First, the percentage for the amount of actual nursing practice was 79.5% which is lower than the amount of actual nursing practice in other western style general hospitals. Second, the content of nursing practice included nursing actions(43.8%), nursing management (35.5%), and education /research (0.1%), indicating that only the special care of oriental nursing and education /research were not observed in nursing practice. These findings indicate a deficit knowledge in oriental medicine and oriental nursing care by nurses in oriental medicine hospitals. Since Oriental Nursing has not been included in Nursing curriculum, there is a need for research to develop basic education in Oriental Medicine and pharmacology as well as the development of a sgstematized approach to Oriental Nursing so as to provide an appropriate background for nurses working in this field. Further research is needed to define nursing in the Oriental Medicine system.

  • Recent changes in health problems as well as the health delivery system demand expanding nursing roles to improve quality care and at the same time provide cost-effective health services. Nursing leaders of the future will be expected to be excellent care givers who are well prepared as researchers and managers and administrators. The purpose of developing an ND program is to train nursing leaders for the future. The program objective are to demonstrate the role as 1) an advanced practitioner who will provide theory based practice 2) a researcher and manager The target population of the ND program is as follows : 1) Nurses with a BSN degree who are seeking to advance on the career ladder 2) Non-nursing BS, BA graduates who are seeking nursing as a second career 3) Transfer students who are mature and motived to be nursing leaders It is believed that the ND program would meet the diverse needs for potential students, for their role in nursing and the health delivery system and create a meaning and challenging position in the profession of nursing. A task force team was organized to develop the ND program and its activities are as follows; 1) Information on ND programs were collected from 3 universities and reviewed 2)An advanced education needs assessment was completed and it was found that 87.6% of the subjects responded positively about advanced degree work. 3) A tentative curriculum for an ND program was developed. It is a great challenge to develop a new program for nursing however, it is also our task and responsibility to further the development of nursing.

  • Programmed instruction has recent]y advanced greatly thinks to extensive world-wide research. Many countries including the United States have increasingly applied the method not only to education, but to such fields as the armed forces and business circles, too. The author has paid great attention to the programmed instruction of other countries and its application to nursing education in Korea. The author studied the matter mainly through descriptive research and has come conclusions as follows: 1) The nursing education in Korea is confronted with the great challenge of how to provide more effective learning for increased learners. Programmed instruction could meet the challenge partially and improve the general quality of student nurse. 2) Programmed instruction could reduce the required study hours by one-third so that the current excessive school credit system could be rearranged properly. 3) Programmed instruction could provide teachers and professors with more free hours to spend with students and give them advice on a kind of tutorial basis. This could bridge the gaps among the students so the improvement of the average quality of learners could be attained. There are, however, many unsolved problems in applying the programmed instruction to nursing education in Korea. Further research should be made to work out a more effective programmed instruction fit to the reality of Korea's nursing education.

  • Purpose: To understand the development of nursing education of North Korea after 1945. Method: First, collecting primary sources published in NK. Second, collecting secondary sources published in South Korea. Third, interview with South Korean medical personnels who visited NK. Forth, interview with medical personnels who escaped NK. Result: After 1945 NK increased health care facilities in short time and had the policy of training medical personnel in short time. Nursing education was focused on the basic practice. NK could begin free medical treatment for the laborer in 1947. Post Korean War restoration and free medical treatment system of national level in 1950s and 1960s served to the health promotion of NK population. The medical personnel training policy continued and the number of R.N. in NK had increased 13 times in 15 years. NK has tried to increase the quality of health care service and medical personnel since 1970s. Nursing education in medical colleges is three-year course but 6 month training courses in general hospitals continue. They focus on primary prevention and oriental medicine in nursing curriculum reflecting the characteristics of NK medial care. But English and high technology is very poor, and there is no computer related curriculum. Conclusion: nursing education in NK has developed reflecting the changes of NK society and health care since 1945. After 1980s NK is in deep economic depression and it is hard to recover from the state with their hands. In this state, we cannot expect the development of nursing education in NK.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop an e-Learning program that assists nursing students' clinical Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and evaluate a web-based education program for secondary stroke prevention. Methods: A web-based secondary stroke prevention education program was developed using the system's life cycle methods and evaluated by comparing the effects of education among three groups, a web group, a booklet group and a control group. Results: Knowledge level of both patients and family, as well as some health behavior compliance in the web-based and booklet education groups were significantly higher than those of the control group. Family support in the web-based and booklet education groups was significantly higher than that of the control group after 12 weeks. The urine cotinine level in the web-based education group was significantly lower than that of the control group after 12 weeks. Medication adherence, blood pressure and perceived health status were not statistically different among the three groups at any time. Conclusion: Webbased and booklet education programs were equally effective regarding the level of knowledge of patients and their families, family support, health behavior compliance, and urine cotinine level. These results demonstrate the potential use of a webbased education program for secondary stroke prevention.

  • The second National Patient Safety Comprehensive Plan was developed in 2023. In this, national-level patient safety education is designated as the fifth core task, with the establishment of an educational system for preliminary healthcare professionals included as a detailed task. The foundation for providing patient safety education to preliminary healthcare professionals has now been established. In 2011, the World Health Organization (WHO) published standard guidelines for patient safety education for healthcare professionals. This study introduces the WHO's 'Patient Safety Curriculum Guide: Multi-professional Edition' and shares the experiences and cases of patient safety education conducted for nursing students-that is, future nurses-according to these guidelines. The patient safety and nursing course was designed as an elective in the second semester of the third year. Before the class was conducted, only 6.9% of the students were familiar with the concept of patient safety. Of the 11 WHO topics, this course covers nine (excluding infection control and medicine safety) and is divided into seven modules. Three modules consist of lectures only, whereas the remaining modules involve practical training. To practice patient safety, it is essential for all healthcare professionals to acquire knowledge regarding patient safety during their undergraduate curriculum. This study aimed to provide foundational information regarding patient safety education for nursing and other healthcare students who have not yet undergone patient safety training.
