This study was an attempt to develop a multidrug resistant organisms infection control simulation program for nurses at small and medium sized hospitals and to evaluate the effectiveness of said simulation program. This is a single-group, pre-post experimental design study conducted on 33 nurses working at small and medium sized hospitals. Data obtained were analyzed using the IBM SPSS 21.0 program, along with the use of descriptive statistics and paired t-test. Regarding the results of the study, multdrug resistant organisms infecion control knowledge(t=-10.764, p<.001)and performance levels(t=-4.215, p<.001) of the nurses displayed statistically significant increases following application of the simulation program. There is a need for the development of more diversified simulation programs in the future since the improvement in the infection control knowledge and performance levels of nurses is important to block the spread of multidrug resistant organisms and prevent infection outbreak thereof with medical institutions.
Purpose To develop an educational program using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in oriental medicine education, this study investigated the status of programs currently being used mainly in the fields of medicine, nursing, and dentistry, and was the basis for developing an oriental medicine education program. We plan to use this for future research purposes. Methods To investigate medical simulation education using VR and AR technologies, 72 studies were searched using the ProQuest Central Database (period 1.1.2000 to 10.10.2023.) Of these, 22 were selected for analysis. Results Among the selected studies, the educational fields of the program were 59% (13 studies) in medicine, 32% (7 studies) in nursing, 9% (2 studies) in dentistry, 73% (16 studies) were VR in terms of applied technology, and 27% (6 studies) in AR. Conclusions Recently, research on VRand AR has increased in the medical field. As patient rights and medical environments change, clinical practice education programs using new technologies are needed, in addition to traditional face-to-face practice. Related research is expected to be active in the field of Oriental medicine in the future.
The research is to be aimed how much the practice education could have influence on the critical thinking, the ability to work out problems and the confidence of nursing process. In order to collect the result, 4 scenarios had been applied into 41 of nursing student from March to July in 2014 (total 12 weeks). First of all, in the case of the critical thinking, its score($3.41{\pm}.31$) after being educated was remarkably higher than before($3.25{\pm}.26$). There was also no difference regarding the total score of ability to solve problems & nursing process confidence. However, the knowledge about nursing process, the identification of the relation causes and linkage regarding nursing process step account is after being educated were higher than before in subcategory. Although the changes regarding the ability to solve problems could not be identified with comparing before, the critical thinking and the confidence had been effected by the practice education with using the simulation. Thus, in order to identify the effect of the simulation education for further details, the more researches with the diversified subjects and the varied duration should be needed.
The Purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a simulated and structured senior program on nursing students. 42 nursing students participated in a simulated and structured senior program. Simulation equipment to revive the old man's feeling consisted of special space suits, glasses, gloves and sandbags. After the experiment, subjects composed the paper, which were analyzed according to the thematic content analysis method. Through the simulated and structured senior program, students could deepen their understanding not only upon physical weakness but also environment of elderly. And they came to have a wide perspectives of the elderly nursing.
This study is a descriptive survey study to identify the relationship between nurse-nurse cooperation, nurse-doctor cooperation, and professional self-concept perceived by nursing students among nursing students with clinical practice experience. The subjects of the study were 140 nursing students, and the collected data were descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and regression analysis of the factors influencing professional self-concept. As a result of the study, professional self-concept was positively correlated with nurse-nurse cooperation and nurse-doctor cooperation, and the influencing factor of professional self-concept was nurse-nurse cooperation, with explanatory power of 48.0%. Therefore, in order to improve the nursing professional self-concept of nursing students, it is necessary to develop an educational program to enhance cooperation between professionals to promote the cooperative relationship between nurses and nurses, and to develop a curriculum for the development and application of simulation scenarios for cooperation between professionals based on clinical field cases.
Purpose : This study sought to investigate novice nurses' communication education needs in the intensive care unit (ICU) using Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) and Borich's need assessment model. This study identified communication challenges in clinical settings to develop a simulation program that enhances communication competencies based on educational requirements. Methods : A descriptive research design and a self-report questionnaire were used. The latter was developed and administered to 121 novice nurses with less than one year of experience in the ICU at various university hospitals in Korea. Data were collected via the online open chatroom from June 24th to July 28th, 2023. The communication education needs were identified using descriptive statistics, t-tests, IPA, and Borich's needs assessment model. Text analysis was used to categorize the participants' communication experience. Results : The results revealed that "communication with physicians," "communication with patients," and "communication with nurse on another shift" domains contained the most substantial educational needs for novice nurses working in the intensive care units. Conclusion : The results provide fundamental data for developing and enhancing customized communication education programs for novice ICU nurses. This valuable information could help ICU nurses and educators improve new nurses' communication skills, which would ultimately contribute to the advancement of nursing education and clinical practice.
This is an integrative review paper of Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR) simulation programs in the mental health area including the analysis of the general characteristics, contents, and the impact of the interventions studies. The keywords used to search the studies were "AR/VR" and "medical/nursing students". The author and a postdoctoral research fellow searched four electronic databases: Web of Science, PubMed, EmBase, and CINHA, and as a result nine studies met the inclusion criteria. Among the selected studies AR/VR simulation programs in the mental health area for healthcare professionals were found to be effective in clinical skills as well as for the interpersonal relationship and the stigma of mentally ill patients. Providing an opportunity to experience a safe and effective tool is important when educating health professionals and AR/VR simulation programs are safe and effective. Thus, standardized AR/VR simulation programs are needed to be developed for health professionals.
The purpose of this study was to identify the Kolb's learning style and preference for instructional methods of undergraduate nursing students. Data were collected from 174 students at a university in D city using a structured questionnaire from October 19 to October 21 2015. Learning style ratio of nursing students was accommodator 34.5%, converger 33.9%, assimilator 16.1%, diverger 15.5% and preference scores for instructional methods were discussion 7.27, direct instruction 7.26, peer teaching 7.22, independent study 6.54, project 6.25, instruction through technology 5.77, game 5.45, simulation 4.23. A significant difference was found in experience of flipped learning between four learning styles groups of nursing students. However, there was no significant difference in the preference of instructional methods between the four learning styles groups. Most of the students were in the middle range of the learning styles. The assessment of nursing students' learning styles is expected to help educator to plan teaching strategies.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the patients' perspectives on nursing students' clinical practices in the wards, and to investigate their willingness for allowing students to practice on them. Methods: This was a descriptive study. 116 inpatients were recruited from the S University Hospital. A 60-item questionnaire was applied to collect the data. The participants were 19 years and older with sound judgement, and were not in special or intensive care units. Data analysis was done in SPSS/WIN 22.0 using descriptive statistics, Fishers exact test, and the ANOVA test. the participant answered to questionnaire from April 29th 2016 to May 10th. Results: 40 participants (34.5%) stated they would allow students' practice, while 72 (61.2%) said they would allow only under staff supervision. 5 participants (4.3%) stated they would not allow whatsoever. The 3 most allowed were emotional support, oral care, and vital signs measurement while the 3 least allowed were gastric feeding, intravenous catheterization, and urinary catheterization. Conclusion: Patients were more inclined to allow students to practice on them when a member of the medical team was present. A fair number of participants said they would be more inclined to allow students' practice if they felt the student was competent; hence, reinforcing simulation sessions is vital in enhancing students' competency and ultimately practice allowance.
