  • Purpose: To examine the outcomes of a smoking cessation clinic at a public health center, in Hwasung city in 2006 and to examine the perceptions of the users regarding the clinic services. Method: 620 smokers who visited the smoking cessation clinic from January, 2006 to November, 2006 were enrolled. An instrument developed by the researcher was used to collect their perceptions. The instrument comprised 24 questions, on a 5-point Likert scale investigating the clinic services in terms of counseling time, environment, readiness of the counselors, counseling information, campaign method, medication use, and follow-up services. The general characteristics of the participants were collected from the database developed by the Ministry of Health & Welfare. The data were analyzed with frequencies, percentage, mean and standard deviation methods. Results: The outcomes of the smoking cessation clinic in Hwasung city in 2006 showed some limitations in terms of low-income group, female smokers, and young adult smokers. Conclusion: Strategies for solving these limitations were necessary to increase the effectiveness of the smoking cessation clinic. Clinic services focused on cognitive-behavioral therapy needed to be developed in accordance with chemotherapy. More effective publicizing campaigns of the clinic services also needed to be developed for more people to know about the clinic. Strategies to increase the accessibility for the people living far from the clinic were also necessary. Assessment of the smokers who did not visit clinic was also recommended in order to determine their intentions, or barriers to visit the clinic.

  • Purpose : The purpose of the study were to describe outcomes of CHP activities, and to evaluate the economic validity of CHP through a cost-benefit analysis. Method : The sample size was 272. Data were collected using a researcher developed questionnaire from November 1999 to March, 2000. Result : The mean age of CHPs was 39.6 (SD-36). In regard to marital status, 90.8% of the respondents were married. 72% of the CHPs had associate degree. Among CHP activities, providing medical services was 50%, followed by home care visits 20% and health promotion services 20%, preventive services 10%. Total costs per month incurred to CHP activities was \3,053,437($2,442.7). Total benefits per month was \6,711,525($5,369.2). Hence, net benefit was calculated as \3,658,089($2,926). Conclusion : Cost-benefit ratio was 2.20, which provides the evidence of the economic viability of CHP program. The result of cost-benefit analysis, however, would more strongly support the economic value of CHP if intangible benefits of CHP activities such as decreases in pain and suffering and increased quality of life, could be counted.

Data collection by interview was carried out from Nov. 1991 to Jul. 1992. The main results were as follows; 1) Total subjects for the need assessment of home nursing care were 123 households wi th 488 persons in a urban poor area. Over half of households $(57.7\%)$ was teenage family. The overall living conditions were poor and the average monthly income was 580 thousands won. $74.8\%$ of subjects was covered by medical care insurance and only $4.7\%$ was covered by public assistance. The morbidity rate was $8.2\%$ among 488 subjects and $27.5\%$ of them was not treated at all, $30\%$ was treated in utilizing pharmacies or local clinics. 2) The subjects of home nursing care were 46 with Hypertension or DM who agreeded the participation of study among registered patients at a public health center in Incheon. Home visiting was performed at intervals per one month for one year. Most of them were the elder(mean age=61 years) and long term patients(7.8 years continued). Home nursing care was effective. That is, blood pressure(including systolic and diastolic pressure) was significantly reduced (t(n=22)=2.31, P=.031, t(n=24)=4.16, P=.000 respectively) and knowledge of disease(t(N=46)=-7.63, P=.000), attitude of disease (t(N =46) = -4.92, P=.000), and self-care(t(N =46) = -4.89, P= .000) were significantly improved through home nursing care. But there was no difference in blood sugar for diabetics between the beginning and the end of visits. At the beginning of visit for home nursing care, sex$(\beta=-0414,\;t=-3.012)$ and nursing need({3=.310, t=2.164) were influencing self-care, and duration of disease$(\beta=.297,\;t=2.106)$ and nursing need $(\beta=.385, t=20417)$ were influencing blood pressure, blood sugar level. Namely, the subjects who were male and had higher nursing need showed better self-care and the longer duration of disease and the higher nursing need were relationship with the better blood pressure and blood sugar level. At the end of visit for home nursing care after one year, the blood pressure and blood sugar level was influenced by age $(\beta.320,\;t= 2.242)$, duration of disease ($(\beta.352,\;t= 2.395)$ and nursing need $(\beta=.350,\;t=2.623)$ and self-care had no influencing factor. The higher age and the longer duration of disease and the higher nursing need were relationship with the better blood pressure and blood sugar level. 3) The problems that were found out during the performance of home nursing care were the absent of useful protocols for services and the clear evaluation base, and the difficulty of teaching elders who were the major part of our subjects.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the importance and performance of nursing interventions linked to five nursing diagnoses in CVA patients. Methods: First, total 37 nursing diagnoses were identified from the analysis of 78 nursing records of CVA patients, and then top 5 diagnoses were mapped with nursing interventions. Second, each intervention was compared in terms of importance and performance by 80 nurses working at neurosurgical units from 5 general hospitals. Data were analyzed using mean, SD, and t-test using the SPSS program. Results: Selected the top five nursing diagnoses were Acute Pain, Risk for Disuse Syndrome, Decreased Intracranial Adaptive Capacity, Ineffective Cerebral Tissue Perfusion and Acute Confusion. In general, most of the interventions were scored higher in importance than performance and most of independent interventions were not performed as frequently as it perceived in importance. The interventions which scored high in performance were the interventions ordered by physician or interventions related to medication behavior. Conclusion: We identified which nursing interventions should be performed more frequently and more critically important to nursing diagnoses. We recommend further research that enhances the performance of nursing interventions to provide better quality of nursing services to the patients in practice.

  • This study aims to understand the research trends in visiting nursing through an analysis of 282 research papers published in Korean journals between 1993 and 2018. The number of research papers has consistently increased since 1993 while it slightly decreased in 2014-2018. Of the three types of visiting nursing in Korea, more than 50% of the studies(154, 53.5%) were conducted for hospital based home care services. For the research topics, many studies addressed visiting nursing services(40, 13.8%) and program and technology development of visiting nursing(38, 13.1%). Also, there were many quantitative studies(269, 95.4%) compared to qualitative(9, 3.2%) or mixed methods(4, 1.4%) studies. The study findings suggested the needs for further studies that develop programs for patients and strengthen competencies of visiting nurses. Also, more experimental, qualitative, or mixed methods study designs need to be applied.

  • This study was conducted to identify communication types of nurses, satisfaction with nursing services and intent to revisit the hospital by hospitalized patients, and to investigate factors influencing intent to revisit the hospital at a time of expansion of comprehensive nursing care service. The subjects consisted of 123 hospitalized patients in sixgeneral hospitals with more than 100 beds in Gyeongsangnam-do. Data were collected by a self-report questionnaire from July 1 to July 30, 2017. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression. There were significant differences in intend to revisit the hospital depending on age(F=9.83, p<0.001), gender(t=-3.82, p<0.001), marital status(t=2.24, p=0.028), education(F=11.92, p<0.001) and days of hospitalization(F=7.81, p<0.001). Intent to revisit the hospital indicated a significantly positive correlation between informative(r=0.609, p<0.001) and affiliative(r=0.536, p<0.001) communication types and satisfaction with nursing services(r=7.97, p<0.001), as well as a significantly negative correlation with authoritative communication types(r=-0.356, p<0.001). Factors influencing intent to revisit the hospital were informational communication type(${\beta}=0.38$, p=0.003) and satisfaction with nursing services(${\beta}=0.84$, p<0.001). Based on these findings, it is necessary to develop various educational programs and conduct systematic education to facilitate effective communication between nurses and patients in order to improve the quality of nursing service and satisfaction of patients admitted to comprehensive nursing care services.
