With the innovative development of bio, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor technologies, it is essential to demand a next-generation transfer system that minimizes dust and vibrations generated during the manufacturing process. In order to develop dust-free and non-contact transfer systems, the high temperature superconductor (HTS) bulks have been applied as a magnet for levitation. However, sintered HTS bulk magnets are limited in their applications due to their relatively low critical current density (Jc) of several kA/cm2 and low mechanical properties as a ceramic material. In addition, during cooling to cryogenic temperatures repeatedly, cracks and damage may occur by thermal shock. On the other hand, the bulk magnets made by stacked HTS tapes have various advantages, such as relatively high mechanical properties by alternate stacking of the metal and ceramic layer, high magnetic levitation performance by using coated conductors with high Jc of several MA/cm2, consistent superconducting properties, miniaturization, light-weight, etc. In this study, we tried to fabricate HTS tapes stacked bulk magnets with 60 mm × 60 mm area and various numbers of HTS tape stacked layers for magnetic levitation. In order to examine the levitation forces of bulk magnets stacked with HTS tapes from 1 to 16 layers, specialized force measurement apparatus was made and adapted to measure the levitation force. By increasing the number of HTS tapes stacked layers, the levitation force of bulk magnet become larger. 16 HTS tapes stacked bulk magnets show promising levitation force of about 23.5 N, 6.538 kPa at 10 mm of levitated distance from NdFeB permanent magnet.

Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) has attracted many attention and applications due to its excellent electrochemical ability. Therefore, standardization of rGO through structural and thermal analysis facilitates quality improvement and management, enabling users to increase efficiency and reduce relevant costs. For rGO and graphene-related materials, it is very important to determine the number of layers and define the resulting difference in physical properties. In this study, 3~4 layers of rGO-1 and 9~10 layers of rGO-2 were obtained from graphene oxide (GO) through a hydrazine reduction process. For the prepared rGOs, X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern obtained a diffraction peak at 2θ≈25° related to (002) reflection was used to calculate the layer numbers by determining interlayer distance and FWHM value. To reduce the angular uncertainty, XRD data analysis was performed with angle correction using standard reference materials for X-ray powder diffraction analysis. Precise interlayer distance and number of layers were determined using OriginLab and open-source XRD diffraction analysis programs using the angle-corrected diffraction data. TG-DSC thermal analysis was performed to further standardize the physical properties of rGO samples.
An experimental study was conducted for the effectiveness of steel-CFRP composite (CFRP laminates sandwiched between two steel strips) as stirrups in concrete beam to carry shearing force and comparison was made with conventional steel bar stirrups. A total numbers of 8 concrete beams were tested under four point loads. Each beam measured 1,600 mm long, 160 mm width and 240 mm depth. The beams were composed of same grade of concrete, with same amount of flexural steel but different shear reinforcements. The main variables include, type of stirrups (shape of stirrups and number of CFRP layers used in each stirrup) and number of stirrups used in shear spans. After getting on an excellent closeness between the values of ultimate shear resistance and ultimate tensile load of steel-CFRP stirrups, it could be concluded that the steel-CFRP stirrups represent the effective solution of premature failure of FRP stirrups at the bends.
Some of satellites such as IKONOS don't provide the orbital elements so that we can’ utilize the physical sensor model. Therefore, Rational Function Model(RFM) which is one of mathematical models could be a feasible solution. In order to improve 3D geopositioning accuracy of IKONOS stereo imagery, Rational Polynomial Coefficients(RPCs) of the RFM need to be updated with Ground Control Points(GCPs). In this paper, a method to improve RPCs of RFM using GCPs and 3D cube is proposed. Firstly, the image coordinates of GCPs are observed. And then, using offset values and scale values of RPC provided, the image coordinates and ground coordinates of 3D cube are initially determined and updated RPCs are computed by the iterative least square method. The proposed method was implemented and analyzed in several cases: different numbers of 3D cube layers and GCPs. The experimental results showed that the proposed method improved the accuracy of RPCs in great amount.
The problem of Benard double diffusive Marangoni convection is investigated in a horizontally infinite composite layer system consisting of a two component fluid layer above a porous layer saturated with the same fluid, using Darcy-Brinkman model with constant heat sources/sink in both the layers. The lower boundary of the porous region is rigid and upper boundary of the fluid region is free with Marangoni effects. The system of ordinary differential equations obtained after normal mode analysis is solved in closed form for the eigenvalue, thermal Marangoni number for two types of thermal boundary combinations, Type (I) Adiabatic-Adiabatic and Type (II) Adiabatic -Isothermal. The corresponding two thermal Marangoni numbers are obtained and the essence of the different parameters on non-Darcy-Benard double diffusive Marangoni convection are investigated in detail.
The aim of this paper is to determine temperature and stress distributions in a ceramic based on Partially Stabilized Zirconia coated steel piston crown by using plasma spraying for improving performance of a marine diesel engine. Effects of coating constituent and thickness on temperature and stress distributions were investigated including comparisons with results from an uncoated piston by means of finite element method namely ANSYS. Temperature developed at the coated surface is significantly higher than that of the uncoated piston. The maximum stress components occur between bond coat and adjacent ceramic layer. Provided that coating thickness is constant as 0.5 mm, when numbers of layers increase, magnitude of the normal stress decrease about 34.1% on the base metal surface according to uncoated piston, but the base metal surface temperature of the steel piston increase about 13.1%.

In this paper, a method for the calculation of 2-dimensional interconnection capacitance for a multi-interconnection signal line in a dielectric region is presented. The numbers of dielectric layers and signal lines are arbitrary. To calculate the capacitance parameter, Boundary Element Method is used, and the dielectric interface and the surface of lines are divided into subsections. The advantages of BEM are small CPU-time and more exact solution due to the directly calculated values of capacitance only at the boundary of domain. It is adopted that the surface capacitance of each subsection assumed constant. The solution of surface charge density and capacitance parameter are calculated in a given domain.
In this research, buckling analysis of an embedded laminated composite plate is investigated. The elastic medium is simulated with spring constant of Winkler medium and shear layer. With considering higher order shear deformation theory (Reddy), the total potential energy of structure is calculated. Using Principle of Virtual Work, the constitutive equations are obtained. The analytical solution is performed in order to obtain the buckling loads. A detailed parametric study is conducted to elucidate the influences of the layer numbers, orientation angle of layers, geometrical parameters, elastic medium and type of load on the buckling load of the system. Results depict that the highest buckling load is related to the structure with angle-ply orientation type and with increasing the angle up to 45 degrees, the buckling load increases.
In current study, natural frequency response of fiber metal laminated (FML) fibrous composite panels is optimized under different combination of the three classical boundary conditions using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and finite strip method (FSM). The ply angles, numbers of layers, panel length/width ratios, edge conditions and thickness of metal sheets are chosen as design variables. The formulation of the panel is based on the classical laminated plate theory (CLPT), and numerical results are obtained by the semi-analytical finite strip method. The superiority of the PSO algorithm is demonstrated by comparing with the simple genetic algorithm.

In this paper, the electromechanical displacements of curved actuators such as THUNDER are calculated by finite element method to design the optimal configuration of curved actuators. To predict the pre-stress in the device due to the mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion, the adhesive as well as metal and PZT ceramic is also numerically modeled by using hexahedral solid elements. Because the modeling of these thin layers causes the numbers of degree of freedom to increase, large-scale structural analyses are performed in a cluster system in this study. The curved shape and pre-stress in the actuator are obtained by the cured curvature analysis. The displacement under the piezoelectric force by an applied voltage is also calculated to compare the performance of curved actuator. The thickness of metal and adhesive, the number of metal layer are chosen as design factors.
