Roughness and micro pit defects on surface of SUS 430 stainless steel strip in cold rolling process

  • Experiment on roughness and micro pit defects of SUS 430 ferrite stainless steel was investigated in laboratory. The relation between roughness and glossiness with reduction in height, roll surface roughness, emulsion parameters was analyzed. The surface morphology of micro pit defects was observed by SEM, and the effects of micro pit defects on rolling reduction, roll surface roughness, emulsion parameters, lubrication oil in deformation zone and work roll diameter were discussed. With the increasing of reduction ratio strip surface roughness Ra(s), Rp(s) and Rv(s) were decreasing along rolling and width direction, the drop value in rolling direction was faster than that in width direction. The roughness and glossiness were obtained under emulsion concentration 3% and 6%, temperature $55^{\circ}C$ and $63^{\circ}C$, roll surface roughness $Ra(r)=0.5{\mu}m$, $Ra(r)=0.7{\mu}m$ and $Ra(r)=1.0{\mu}m$. The glossiness was declined rapidly when the micro defects ratio was above 23%. With the pass number increasing, the micro pit defects were reduced, uneven peak was decreased and gently along rolling direction. The micro pit defects were increased with the roll surface roughness increase. The defects ratio was declined with larger gradient at pass number 1 to 3, but gentle slope at pass number 4 to 5. When work roll diameter was small, bite angle was increasing, lubrication oil in micro pit of deformation zone was decreased, micro defects were decreased, and glossiness value on the surface of strip was increased.

실린더 헤드 스월 측정 및 자동화 방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on Measurement and Automation Method of Cylinder Head Swirl)

  • The swirl ratio of a charge in the cylinder was estimated by calculating the ratio of the rotary speed of charge which could be simulated from the rotary speed of paddle in the swirl measurement apparatus, to the engine speed which could be calculated by measuring intake air flow rate. The automation of the swirl ratio measurement for cylinder head was achieved by controling both valve lift in cylinder head and a suction pressure of surge tank using two step-motors. The number of measurement position for calculating mean swirl ratio was varied by adjusting the interval of valve lift. The mean swirl ratio with varying the number of measurement position showed nearly constant value. Two measurement methods for measuring the swirl ratio were compared, one was to control the suction pressure of the surge tank with PID (proportional, integral, differential) mode with by-pass valve controlled by the step motor and the other did not control the surge tank pressure by fixing the by-pass valve. The difference of the mean swirl ratio between the two measurement methods showed nearly constant value with varying the number of measurement position. This means that the w/o PID control method could be preferred to the PID control method which has been used, due to the simpleness of the swirl measurement.

냉각유로 내 곡관부 및 유로의 회전이 압력강하에 미치는 영향 (Pressure Drop Characteristics in a Coolant Passage With Turning Region and Rotation)

  • The present study investigated local pressure drop in a rotating smooth square duct with turning region. The duct has a hydraulic diameter $(D_h)$ of 26.7mm and a divider wall of 6.0mm or $0.225D_h$. The distance between the tip of the divider and the outer wall of the duct is $1.0D_h$. The Reynolds number (Re) based on the hydraulic diameter is kept constant at 10,000, and the rotation number (Ro) is varied from 0.0 to 0.20. The pressure coefficient distribution $(C_p)$, the friction factor (f) and the thermal performance $({\eta})$ are presented on the leading, the trailing and the outer surfaces. It is found that the curvature of the $180^{\circ}-turn$ produces Dean vortices that cause the high pressure drop in the turning region. The duct rotation results in the pressure coefficient discrepancy between the leading and trailing surfaces. That is, the high pressure values appear on the trailing surface in the first-pass and on the leading and side surfaces in the second-pass. As the rotation number increases, the pressure discrepancy enlarges. In the fuming region, a pair of the Dean vortices in the stationary case transform into one large asymmetric vortex cell, and then the pressure drop characteristics also change.

  • The present study investigates heat/mass transfer characteristics in a rotating two-pass duct for smooth and ribbed surfaces. The duct has an aspect ratio of 0.5 and a hydraulic diameter of 26.67 mm. 70-angled rib turbulators are attached on the leading and trailing sides of the duct in parallel and cross arrangements. The pitch-to-rib height ratio is 7.5 and the rib height-to-hydraulic diameter ratio is 0.075. The Reynolds number based on the hydraulic diameter is constant at 10,000 and the rotation number ranges from 0.0 to 0.2 Detailed local heat/mass transfer coefficients are measured using a naphthalene sublimation technique. The results show that the secondary flows generated by the $180^{\circ}-turn$, rib turbulators, and duct rotation affect the wall heat/mass transfer distribution significantly, As the duct rotates, the rotaion-induced Coriolis force deflects the main flow and results in differences on the heat/mass transfer distribution between the leading and trailing surfaces. Its effects become more dominant as the rotaion number increases. Discussions are presented describing how the rib configuration and the rotaion speed affect the flow patterns and local heat/mass transfer in the duct.

Cumulative Angular Distortion Curve of Multi-Pass Welding at Thick Plate of Offshore Structures

  • In the fabrication of offshore oil and gas facilities, the significance of dimension control is growing continuously. But, it is difficult to determine the deformation of the structure during fabrication by simple lab tests due to the large size and the complicated shape. Strain-boundary method (a kind of shrinkage method) based on the shell element was proposed to predict the welding distortion of a structure effectively. Modeling of weld geometry in shell element is still a difficult task. In this paper, a concept of imaginary temperature pair is introduced to handle the effect of geometric factors such as groove shape, plate thickness and pass number, etc. Single pass imaginary temperature pair formula is derived from the relation between the groove area and the FE mesh size. By considering the contribution of each weld layer to the whole weldment, multi-pass imaginary temperature is also derived. Since the temperature difference represents the distortion increment, cumulative distortion curve can be drawn by integrating the temperature difference. This curve will be a useful solution when engineers meet some problems occurred in the shipyard. A typical example is shown about utilization of this curve. Several verifications are conducted to examine the validity of the proposed methodology. The applicability of the model is also demonstrated by applying it to the fabrication process of the heavy ship block. It is expected that the imaginary temperature model can effectively solve the modeling problem in shell element. It is also expected that the cumulative distortion curve derived from the imaginary temperature can offer useful qualitative information about angular distortion without FE analysis.

약한 제트 엔진 변조 신호의 Spool Rate 추출을 위한 High-Pass Filtering 기반의 빠른 전처리 기법 (Fast Preprocessing Technique based on High-Pass Filtering for Spool Rate Extraction of Weak JEM Signals)

  • 제트 엔진 변조(jet engine modulation: JEM) 신호는 제트 엔진 고유의 정보를 제공하기 때문에 표적 인식 분야에서 널리 이용된다. JEM 신호의 고유 정보인 날개 수를 얻기 위해서는 날개의 회전 속도, spool rate를 추출하는 것이 중요하다. 하지만 약한 JEM 신호에서는 회전 속도를 추출하는데 어려움을 겪는다. 이에 본 논문에서는 약한 JEM 신호에서 spool rate를 추출하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 우선 JEM 신호에서 spool rate를 추출하기 위해서 JEM 신호 성분의 강약을 구분하는 기준을 정하여 신호를 구분한다. 그 중 약한 신호를 high-pass filtering 기반의 전처리 과정을 거쳐 spool rate 추출에 용의하도록 신호를 변형해준다. Spool rate를 추출할 수 있는 신호를 얻고 난 후, peak detection 과정을 통하여 spool peak를 찾고, spool period/rate를 추출한다. 기존의 CEMD(Complex Empirical Mode Decomposition), WD(Wavelet Decomposition)와 같은 방법보다 간단하기 때문에, 추출을 정확하게 할 뿐만 아니라 시간을 매우 절약할 수 있음을 입증하였다.

  • The present study has been carried out to analyze the flow characteristics with geometric shape and control conditions in subsea by-pass valve. The function of by-pass valve is to prevent reverse flow. In this study, the static analysis has been perform for analyzing fluid flow in open state. In order to consider the turbulent effect, the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model was used. A variety of parametric studies, such as by-pass valve type or size, volume flow rate, leakage hole size, leakage hole position, block type, block shape, were performed. The pressure difference across the valve in the model broadened the flow channel cross-sectional area was greater than the base model for the same operating conditions. As the pipe diameter in the block decreases the pressure difference is greatly increased. The pressure difference according to block shape such as edge type and round was almost negligible. For the same Reynolds number the pressure difference was little changed according to the size of the valve.

  • 현재 FTMS(Freeway Traffic Management System: 고속도로 교통관리 시스템), TCS(Toll Collection System: 요금 징수 시스템), 하이패스(Hi-Pass: 통행료 전자 지불 시스템)등의 고속도로 ITS(Intelligent Transportation System) 설비들은 단순한 이력관리 및 수동적인 사후관리가 이루어져 고장관련 DB가 부족하여 시설물의 통합운영관리 활용을 최대화 하지 못하고 있다. 또한, 부품의 교체시기가 없어 고장 발생 시마다 부품을 교체하다 보니 고장건수 증가 및 수리시간이 증가하며, 매번 교체 할 때마다 서비스가 중단되는 문제 점이 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 고속도로 ITS 시설물의 고장이력을 사전에 관리하여 예방적 유지관리를 하려한다. 따라서 하이패스 시설물의 고장이력을 신뢰성 이론에 기반을 두고 체계적인 통계분석을 통해 시스템의 신뢰도인 운용가용도를 산출한다. 교체시기 산정을 통해 고장건수 및 시간이 감소하며 예비품 수량을 확보하여 예산 비용을 줄일 수 있고, 부품의 관리계획을 수립하여 지속적인 예방적 유지관리를 통해 시스템의 품질을 향상시키고, 서비스 품질을 항시 가용한 상태인 무 중단 운용상태를 지향 할 수 있도록 하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다.

  • This paper proposes a new topology-based partition method for reconfigurable FPGA systems whose components nd the number of interconnections are predetermined. Here, the partition problem must also consider nets that pass through components such as FPGAs and routing devices to route 100%. We formulate it as a quadratic boolean programming problem suggest a paritition method for it. Experimental results show 100% routing, and up to 15% improvement in the maximum number of I/O pins.
