Analysis of the Recovery Behavior of SFCL According to Reclosing Operation (재폐로 동작에 따른 초전도 한류기의 회복성능 분석)

  • The breaking capacity of circuit breakers could be no more increased in the electric power system. This is because the fault current increases due to continuous increases in electric power demand and facilities. To solve the problem, it is necessary to come up with an alternative. The superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has received an attention among various alternatives. The SFCL effectively reduce a fault current in cooperation with a power circuit breaker. A various types of the SFCL are suggested and a study on them have been progressed. As a result of it, the SFCL can be applyed to the electric power system in the near future. But, a study on recovery behaviors of the SFCL is not enough for applying to the electric power system. If the superconducting elements do not completely recover to the superconducting state after fault operation, it might be a breakdown of the superconducting elements due to heavy power burden and it gives an bad influence on the working of other electric devices. Additionally, the distribution power system has reclosing operation such as open-0.3sec-closed/open-3min-closed/open procedure. So we need to study more about improvement of the recovery behaviors of the SFCL. In this paper, we analyzed the recovery behaviors of a flux-coupling type SFCL according to reclosing operation when a single line-to-ground fault occurred and we compared recovery behaviors of the SFCL with and without a neutral line between secondary reactors and superconducting elements. Also, the flux-coupling type SFCL has advantageous for increases of capacity by controlling the variation in turn ratios between two reactors. Consequently, when the number of turns of the secondary reactors increased, the power burden of the superconducting elements was bigger due to the increase of impedances of the secondary reactors. To distribute the power burden, two superconducting elements connected in series and the balanced quenching of the superconducting elements was induced by connecting a neutral line.

Learning Curve of a Low-Volume Veterinary Surgeon for Laparoscopic Salpingectomy in Asiatic Black Bear (Ursus thibetanus)

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the learning curve of a low-volume veterinary surgeon for laparoscopic salpingectomy of Asiatic black bear. A total of 66 Asiatic black bears (Ursus thibetanus) were presented for sterilization using laparoscopic salpingectomy. These 66 bears were divided into three groups of 22 bears according to the order of surgery (A, B, and C groups, 22 bears per group). One veterinarian performed laparoscopic salpingectomy. There was no significant difference in age, body weight, or crown-rump length between groups. The hazard of completion for salpingectomy by 5 minutes was higher (p < 0.0001) in B and C groups than A group, whereas the hazard was not significant different between B and C groups. The factor that affected the hazard of completing salpingectomy by 5 minutes was heart rate, not age or weight. Operation time was 12.61 ± 8.04 minutes for group A, 5.35 ± 4.38 minutes for group B, and 2.80 ± 1.16 minutes for group C. The operation time for salpingectomy shortened over time. However, significant difference in operation time was present only between groups A and C (p = 0.001). The operation time for laparoscopic salpingectomy decreased rapidly for the first 7 bears (p < 0.05). It then decreased gradually until the 66th case. Operation time of laparoscopic salpingectomy was significantly decreased and stabilized after 33 cases (p < 0.05). As a result, the number of bears required for a low-volume veterinary surgeon to be proficient in laparoscopic salpingectomy is 33 or more.

  • Scientific and technological progress is also fundamental to the evolving merchant shipping industry, both in terms of the size and speed of modern ships and in the level of their technical capabilities. While the freight performance of ships is growing, the number of crew on board is steadily decreasing, as more work processes are being automated through the implementation of information technologies, including ship management systems. Although there have been repeated appeals from international maritime organizations to focus on building effective maritime security defenses against cyber attacks, the problems have remained unresolved. Owners of shipping companies do not disclose information about cyberattack attempts or incidents against them due to fear of commercial losses or consequences, such as loss of image, customer and insurance claims, and investigations by independent international organizations and government agencies. Issues of cybersecurity of control systems in the world today have gained importance, due to the fact that existing threats concern not only the security of technical means and devices, but also issues of environmental safety and safety of life at sea. The article examines the implementation of cyber risk management in the shipping industry, providing recommendations for the safe ship operation and its systems in order to improve vulnerability to external threats related to cyberattacks, and to ensure the safety and security of such a technical object as a seagoing ship.

A Study on the cost allocation method of the operating room in the hospital (수술실의 원가배부기준 설정연구)

  • The operating room is the major facility that costs the highest investment per unit area in a hospital. It requires commitment of hospital resources such as manpower, equipments and material. The quantity of these resources committed actually differs from one type of operation to another. Because of this, it is not an easy task to allocate the operating cost to individual clinical departments that share the operating room. A practical way to do so may be to collect and add the operating costs incurred by each clinical department and charge the net cost to the account of the corresponding clinical department. It has been customary to allocate the cost of the operating room to the account of each individual department on the basis of the ratio of the number of operations of the department or the total revenue by each operating room. In an attempt to set up more rational cost allocation method than the customary method, this study proposes a new cost allocation method that calls for itemizing the operation cost into its constituent expenses in detail and adding them up for the operating cost incurred by each individual department. For comparison of the new method with the conventional method, the operating room in the main building of hospital A near Seoul is chosen as a study object. It is selected because it is the biggest operating room in hospital A and most of operations in this hospital are conducted in this room. For this study the one-month operation record performed in January 2001 in this operating room is analyzed to allocate the per-month operation cost to six clinical departments that used this operating room; the departments of general surgery, orthopedic surgery, neuro-surgery, dental surgery, urology, and obstetrics & gynecology. In the new method(or method 1), each operation cost is categorized into three major expenses; personnel expense, material expense, and overhead expense and is allocated into the account of the clinical department that used the operating room. The method 1 shows that, among the total one-month operating cost of 814,054 thousand wons in this hospital, 163,714 thousand won is allocated to GS, 335,084 thousand won to as, 202,772 thousand won to NS, 42,265 thousand won to uno, 33,423 thousand won to OB/GY, and 36.796 thousand won to DS. The allocation of the operating cost to six departments by the new method is quite different from that by the conventional method. According to one conventional allocation method based on the ratio of the number of operations of a department to the total number of operations in the operating room(method 2 hereafter), 329,692 thousand won are allocated to GS, 262,125 thousand won to as, 87,104 thousand won to NS, 59,426 thousand won to URO, 51.285 thousand won to OB/GY, and 24,422 thousand won to DS. According to the other conventional allocation method based on the ratio of the revenue of a department(method 3 hereafter), 148,158 thousand won are allocated to GS, 272,708 thousand won to as, 268.638 thousand won to NS, 45,587 thousand won to uno, 51.285 thousand won to OB/GY, and 27.678 thousand won to DS. As can be noted from these results, the cost allocation to six departments by method 1 is strikingly different from those by method 2 and method 3. The operating cost allocated to GS by method 2 is about twice by method 1. Method 3 makes allocations of the operating cost to individual departments very similarly as method 1. However, there are still discrepancies between the two methods. In particular the cost allocations to OB/GY by the two methods have roughly 53.4% discrepancy. The conventional methods 2 and 3 fail to take into account properly the fact that the average time spent for the operation is different and dependent on the clinical department, whether or not to use expensive clinical material dictate the operating cost, and there is difference between the official operating cost and the actual operating cost. This is why the conventional methods turn out to be inappropriate as the operating cost allocation methods. In conclusion, the new method here may be laborious and cause a complexity in bookkeeping because it requires detailed bookkeeping of the operation cost by its constituent expenses and also by individual clinical department, treating each department as an independent accounting unit. But the method is worth adopting because it will allow the concerned hospital to estimate the operating cost as accurately as practicable. The cost data used in this study such as personnel expense, material cost, overhead cost may not be correct ones. Therefore, the operating cost estimated in the main text may not be the same as the actual cost. Also, the study is focused on the case of only hospital A, which is hardly claimed to represent the hospitals across the nation. In spite of these deficiencies, this study is noteworthy from the standpoint that it proposes a practical allocation method of the operating cost to each individual clinical department.

ANALYSIS OF CLINICAL EFFECT OF $CO_2$ LASER ILLUMINATION AFTER SURGICAL EXTRACTION OF IMPACTED 3RD MOLAR (하악 매복치 발치 후 $CO_2$ laser 조사의 임상적 효과 분석)

  • Dental laser provides many advantages to the clinicians. Those are excellent hemostatic effect, good operating sight, minimal adjacent tissue injury, reduction of postoperative swelling & pain, reduction of postoperative infection, reduction of scar tissue & contraction, etc. The purpose of this study is to observe how these advantages work after surgical extraction of impacted third molar. From march 2000 to july 2000, we have randomly divided the patients who had been surgically extracted unilateral impacted third molar into two groups. The first group comprised $CO_2$ laser illumination with 3 watts, defocusing & continuous mode, rotating motion for about 3 minutes after finishing of surgical extraction & suture. The other group patients were not irradiated. The medications in two groups were same. We measured pain, swelling and trismus three times(pre-operation, first day after operation, and 7th day after operation). The number of the patients who had measured three times all are 64, laser irradiated groups are 36 and non-irradiated groups are 28. The age ranged from 19 to 50, with a mean of 27.9 years. The operative time ranged from 3 minutes to 50 minutes, with a mean of 12.1 minutes. In the $CO_2$ laser group, the pain intensity of the 7th day after operation was still increased significantly comparing with that of the pre-operation and the distance which were measured for the swelling was different significantly. In the other group, the mouth opening limitation was still decreased significantly.

Measurements of the Hepatectomy Rate and Regeneration Rate Using Deep Learning in CT Scan of Living Donors (딥러닝을 이용한 CT 영상에서 생체 공여자의 간 절제율 및 재생률 측정)

  • Liver transplantation is a critical used treatment method for patients with end-stage liver disease. The number of cases of living donor liver transplantation is increasing due to the imbalance in needs and supplies for brain-dead organ donation. As a result, the importance of the accuracy of the donor's suitability evaluation is also increasing rapidly. To measure the donor's liver volume accurately is the most important, that is absolutely necessary for the recipient's postoperative progress and the donor's safety. Therefore, we propose liver segmentation in abdominal CT images from pre-operation, POD 7, and POD 63 with a two-dimensional U-Net. In addition, we introduce an algorithm to measure the volume of the segmented liver and measure the hepatectomy rate and regeneration rate of pre-operation, POD 7, and POD 63. The performance for the learning model shows the best results in the images from pre-operation. Each dataset from pre-operation, POD 7, and POD 63 has the DSC of 94.55 ± 9.24%, 88.40 ± 18.01%, and 90.64 ± 14.35%. The mean of the measured liver volumes by trained model are 1423.44 ± 270.17 ml in pre-operation, 842.99 ± 190.95 ml in POD 7, and 1048.32 ± 201.02 ml in POD 63. The donor's hepatectomy rate is an average of 39.68 ± 13.06%, and the regeneration rate in POD 63 is an average of 14.78 ± 14.07%.

Inducement of Design Parameters for Reliability Improvement of Servo Actuator for Hydraulic Valve Operation (유압밸브 구동용 서보 액추에이터의 신뢰성 향상을 위한 설계 파라미터 도출)

  • The precision hydraulic valve is widely used in various industrial field like aircraft, automobile, and general machinery. Servo actuator is the most important device for driving the precise hydraulic valve. The reliable operation of servo actuator effects on the overall hydraulic system. The performance of servo actuator relies on frequency response and step response according to arbitrary input signal. In this paper, we performed the analysis for the components of servo actuator to satisfy the reliable operation and response characteristics through the reliability analysis, and also induced the design parameters to realize the reliable operation and fast response characteristics of servo actuator for hydraulic valve operation through the empirical knowledge of experts and electromagnetic theories. We suggested the design equations to determine the values of design parameters of servo actuator as like bobbin size, length of yoke and plunger and turn number of coil, and verified the achieved design values through FEM analysis and performance tests using some prototypes of servo actuators adapted in hydraulic valve.

Analysis of Flow Characteristics in Upstream Channel depending on Water Gate Operation of Nakdan Multi Functional Weir (수문운영에 따른 낙단보 상류하도 흐름특성 해석)

  • This study, examines the flow characteristics of upstream channel depending on water gate operation of Nakdan Multi-fuctional weir. The specific purpose of this study are to simulate the variation of flow velocity depending on the operation of the weir using 1-dimensional hydraulic model, HEC-RAS, and compare it with observed velocity. For discharge conditions from $50m^3/s$ to $3,500m^3/s$, it is observed that the velocity of upstream channel is almost constant, whereas for probability flood discharge, the velocity and froude number are increased as the discharge values are increased. The velocity values for downstream boundary condition EL, 40.0 m are more decreased than those for EL. 40.5m. From comparison on the variation of water stage depending on water gate operation, it is observed that the stage values are almost constant for discharges below $300m^3/s$, whereas 5 cm to 20 cm for discharges over $700m^3/s$. Flow velocity at streamflow gauging station. Nakdong, is decreased by more than 875% after installing the weir. The results obtained from this study indicate that the velocity of upstream channel is decreased and the discharge and velocity of downstream channel are significantly varied after installing the weir.

AGV Dispatching with Stochastic Simulation (확률적 시뮬레이션 기반 AGV 배차)

  • In an automated container terminal, various factors affect the operation of container handling equipment such as quay cranes and AGVs, and thus calculating the exact operation time is nearly infeasible. This uncertainty makes it difficult to dispatch AGVs well. In this paper, we propose a simulation-based AGV dispatching algorithm When dispatching an AGV to an operation, the proposed algorithm conducts multiple stochastic simulation for the succeeding AGV operations for the predetermined period to collect stochastic samples of the result of the dispatching. In the stochastic simulation, the uncertainty of crane operations is represented as a simple probability distribution and the operation time of a crane is determined according to this. A dispatching option is evaluated by the total delay time of quay cranes which is estimated by averaging the quay crane delay of each simulation In order to collect a sufficient number of samples that guarantee the credibility of the evaluation, we devised a high-speed simulator that simulates AGV operation The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is validated by simulation experiments.

An Efficiency Analysis on Mutation Operation with TSP solved in Genetic Algorithm

  • Genetic Algorithm(GA) is applied to a problem that could not figure out its solution in a straightway. It is called as NP-hard problem. GA requires a high-performance system to be run on since the high-cost operations are needed such as crossover, selection, and mutation. Moreover, the scale of the problem domain is normally huge. That is why the straightway cannot be applied. To reduce the drawback of high-cost requirements, we try to answer if all the operations including mutation are necessary for all cases. In the experiment, we set up two cases of with/without mutation operations and gather the number of generations and the fitness of a solution. The subject in the experiment is Travelling Salesman Problem(TSP), which is one of the popular problems solved by GA. As a result, the cases with mutation operation are not faster and the solution is fitter than the case with mutation operation. From the result, the conclusion is that mutation operation does not always need for a better solution in a faster way.
