  • This paper addresses the analysis of the travel distance and the number of storage location for storage location allocation methods in a warehouse system. The dedicated, randomized, combined and limited storage methods are considered. The combined and the limited storage methods are suggested here, which the combined storage method is to divide the storage locations into the dedicated storage area and the randomized storage area, and the limited storage method is to restrict the storage area of each product. Through a numerical example, the average travel distance between input/output point and the storage locations, and the number of storage location needed in the warehouse are compared between storage location allocation methods. The nearest randomized storage method is shown as the reasonable one in the travel distance and the number of storage location.

  • The unique characteristics of graphene make it an optimal material for crucial studies; likewise, its potential applications are numerous. Graphene's characteristics change with the number of total layers, and thus the rapid and accurate estimation of the number of graphene layers is essential. In this work, we review the methods till date used to identify the number of layers but they incorporate certain drawbacks and limitations. To overcome the limitations, a combination of these methods will provide a direct approach to identify the number of layers. Here we correlate the data obtained from Raman spectroscopy, optical microscopy images, and atomic force microscopy to identify the number of graphene layers. Among these methods, correlation of optical microscopy images with Raman spectroscopy data is proposed as a more direct approach to reliably determine the number of graphene layers.

  • Many clustering methods have been studied. For the most part of these methods may be needed to determine the number of clusters. But, there are few methods for determining the number of population clusters objectively. It is difficult to determine the cluster size. In general, the number of clusters is decided by subjectively prior knowledge. Because the results of clustering depend on the number of clusters, it must be determined seriously. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for determining the number of clusters using hybrid' self organizing map and new criterion for evaluating the clustering result. In the experiment, we verify our model to compare other clustering methods using the data sets from UCI machine learning repository.

  • The aim of this study was to determine the appropriate stockpiling methods for revegetation by comparing the germination status of seed banks before and after preservation for 2 years. Soil temperature in stockpiled topsoil was higher in open treatment and at 1.5 m, whereas soil water content was maintained at lower levels (14.06-19.08%), than those in the control group. The seed banks in stockpiled topsoil had 48 species and 1,559 individuals, among which perennials showed the highest number in terms of life forms, whereas Compositae and Gramineae were dominant in terms of families. Based on seed bank type, persistent seed banks had the highest number of species, while transient seed banks had the highest number of individuals. By stockpiling period, the number of species in the seed bank started to increase after 24 months, while the number of individuals began increasing after 12 months and exceeded that of the control group after 24 months. Regarding the treatment of stockpiling methods, the number of species and individuals in open treatment were closer to those of the control group. When analyzed by height, the number of species and individuals were higher at 0 m, but still lower than those of the control group. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA ) showed that the optimal combination was obtained in open treatment and the number of individuals increased with the lengthening of the stockpiling period.

  • Number plates of vehicles operating in real world are sometimes difficult to recognize due to the number plate degradation (bent or dirty plates). To recognize the vehicle number from a number plate with severe degradation, good segmentation is necessary, which in turn requires good thresholding. This paper proposes a binarization method that combines the fast processing speed of global thresholding methods with the local thresholding methods' ability to adapt to lacal gray level characteristics. The proposed method overcomes the degradation of number plates quickly and maintains the widths of digit strokes uniform. The paper presents results of comparison with existing global and local thresholding methods.

  • Purpose: This study examined the level of students' anxiety depending on the injection type, education methods, and the students' characteristics. Methods: 209 first year nursing students were randomly assigned to each group by three factors -injection methods, video watching, and number of practice. Injection methods had two levels (IV and IM). Video watching also had also two levels (video watching and non-watching group). And the number of practice had 4 levels according to number of practice (2, 4, 6, and 8 times). The video watching group was watching 30 minutes video before manikin practice. After 5 to 15 minutes of manikin practice, the sufficiency of practice and the level of anxiety were measured. The data were analyzed by t-test and one way ANOVA. Results: The anxiety of the IV practice was higher than that of IM. The students who have experiences of working at hospital or the similar institution were lower in anxiety. The higher self-confident in sufficiency of practice lowered the students' anxiety. But watching video and the number of practices had no effects on the level of anxiety. Conclusion: To effectively lower the anxiety of nursing students in the nursing practice education, lecture methods and education tools are needed to develop.

  • Amaryllis ($Hippeastrum{\times}johnsonii$) is commonly propagated by three methods: seeds, offset bulblets, and twin scaling. Since the number and size of bulblets produced by these methods are low, we conducted an experiment to evaluate different bulb cutting methods for propagation. For this purpose, bulbs (circumference of 30 - 35 cm) were sectioned or notched into 8, 12, or 16 segments or twin-scaled into 48, 72, or 96 segments for bulblet formation. Our results show that the largest number of bulblets was produced by the twin scaling method, but they take longer to grow to a final, commercial size. Sectioning and notching resulted in larger, but fewer bulblets than twin-scaling. Compared to notching, sectioning provided more space for the bulblets to grow, and is therefore the recommended method. While increasing the number of sections cut from a single bulb resulted in a larger number of bulblets, the diameter of the bulblets decreased. Therefore, sectioning the bulb into 8 segments was the best method for producing an acceptable number of vigorous bulblets.

  • In this paper, we consider two issues in collaborative filtering, which are closely related with the number of ratings of a user. First issue is the relationship between the number of ratings of a user and the performance of collaborative filtering. The relationship is investigated with two datasets, EachMovie and Movielens datasets. The number of ratings of a user is critical when the number of ratings is small, but after the number is over a certain threshold, its influence on recommendation performance becomes smaller. We also provide an explanation on the relationship between the number of ratings of a user and the performance in terms of neighborhood formations in collaborative filtering. The second issue is how to select an initial product list for new users for gaining user responses. We suggest and analyze 14 selection strategies which include popularity, favorite, clustering, genre, and entropy methods. Popularity methods are adequate for getting higher number of ratings from users, and favorite methods are good for higher average preference ratings of users.

  • Purpose: In this paper, we propose calculation methods of Maintenance Float (M/F). Results of each method are compared and verified by using commercial tool (OPUS Suite). As modern weapon systems become more expensive, we need to find the most economical and efficient method to achieve the target operational availability (Ao). Methods: Three kinds of methods (Considering the number of CSP, Applying the Poisson distribution, and Applying M&S Tool) are used to find the number of M/F. Three methods (Considering the number of CSP, Applying the Poisson distribution, and Applying M&S Tool) were used to estimate the required number of M/F. The analysis results were verified by SIMLOX. The cost of equipment calculated by each analysis method was compared and the cause of the difference was analyzed. Conclusion: Ao and cost must be considered to find the optimal number of M/F. In general, it costs more to increase availability. But the cost is not necessarily proportional to Ao. Therefore, it is better to compare the calculation method and determine the final MF quantity.
