  • This paper deals with the simulation of solid particle coating technology via supersonic nozzle in vacuum environment to devote as an aerosol-deposition device. In order to improve efficiencies of nozzle and coating process, effects of shockwave, nozzle geometry, and substrate location were studied computationally under a fixed chamber pressure of 0.01316 bar which is nearly vacuous. Shockwave is the important factor affect to entire flow because shockwave in the jet flow dissipates the kinetic energy of the flow in the supersonic condition. Results show that various nozzle geometries have significant effect on the supersonic flow and we know that the supersonic nozzle should be optimized to minimize the loss of the flow. Another parameter, the distance between substrate and nozzle tip, shows little effect in this study.

  • The flow behind the variable area nozzle which corresponds to the flow at the leading edge of the impeller was measured with a 3-hole yaw probe and calculated with CFD. Two nozzle throat-areas were investigated. One is the smallest and the other is the largest opening for the variable nozzle. Test results agreed with the calculated results qualitatively. The leakage flow through the tip clearance of the nozzle vane significantly affected the flow field downstream of the nozzle vane with the smallest opening. However, the effect on leakage flow on the flow field downstream of the nozzle vane with the largest opening was very weak and the effect of wake is dominant.

  • The effects of projectile impact system on the transient spray characteristic which is supersonic liquid tip velocity were studied by experimentally. Supersonic liquid jets were generated by impact of a high speed projectile driven by a Two-stage light gas gun. A high speed camera and schlieren optical system were used to capture the spray structures of the supersonic liquid jets. In a case of nozzle assembly Type-A, expansion gases accelerate a projectile which has a mass of 6 grams from 250 m/s at the exit of the launch tube. Accelerated projectile collides with the liquid storage part, then supersonic liquid jets are injected with instantaneous spray tip velocity from 617.78 m/s to 982.54 m/s with various nozzle L/d. However, In a case of nozzle assembly Type-B which has a heavier projectile (60 grams) and lower impact velocity (182 m/s), an impact pressure was decreased. Thus the liquid jet injected at 210 m/s of the maximum velocity did not penetrate a shock wave and fast break-up was occurred. Pulsed injection of liquid column generated second shock wave and multiple shock wave.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the injection and spray characteristics of single-hole GDI injectors using injection rate and mie-scattering spray images. Five types of single-hole injectors with different nozzle hole diameters were used, and the spray rate, spray tip penetration, spray area, and spray width were analyzed. As a result, the diameter of the nozzle hole had a direct effect on the injection and spray characteristics. It was confirmed that the larger the diameter of the nozzle hole, the higher the injection quantity, the spray tip penetration, the spray area, and the spray width. In addition, it was confirmed that the near-field spray, which has little influence of ambient air, has a great correlation with the injection rate.

  • In this study, nano-sized Ni-ferrite and $Fe_2$$O_3$+NiO powder was fabricated by spray pyrolysis process in the condition of 1kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ air pressure using the Fe-Ni complex waste acid solution generated during the manufacturing process of shadow mask. The average particle size of the produced powder was below 100 nm. The effects of the reaction temperature, the concentration of raw material solution and the nozzle tip size on the properties of powder were studied. As the reaction temperature increased from $800 ^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$, the average particle size of the powder increased from 40 nm to 100 nm, the structure of the powder gradually became solid, yet the distribution of the particle size appeared more irregular. Along with the increase of the reaction temperature, the fraction of the Ni-ferrite phase were also on the rise, and the surface area of the powder was greatly reduced. As the concentration of Fe in solution increased from 20g/l to 200g/l, the average particle size of the powder gradually increased from 30 nm to 60 nm, while the distribution of the particle size appeared more irregular. Along with the increase of the concentration of solution, tie fraction of the Ni-ferrite phase was on the rise, and the surface area of the powder was greatly reduced. Along with the increase of the nozzle tip size, the distribution of the particle size appeared more irregular, yet the average particle size of the powder showed no significant change. As the nozzle tip size increased from 1 mm to 2 mm, the fraction of the Ni-ferrite phase showed no significant change, while the surface area of the powder slightly reduced. As the nozzle tip size increased to 3 mm and 5 mm, the fraction of the Ni-ferrite phase gradually reduced, and the surface area of the powder slightly increased.

  • An ejector is a kind of pump which is using pressure energy of high pressure fluid. This study aims to investigate performance influencing according to change the ejector mixing section shape using CFD simulation by Finite Volume Method. Optimum conditions were suggested 3 kind of variable such as nozzle diameter, nozzle length, distance from nozzle tip to the diffuser inlet. The results, It was confirmed that the diameter of the nozzle was the greatest effect in performance of the ejector. The diameter of the nozzle get smaller, mixing ratio was increased. On the other hand, nozzle length, distance from nozzle tip to the diffuser inlet had little effect on performance. It was proposed specific Mixing section, Nozzel diameter 23.8mm using the Artificial Neural Network.

  • A visualization study of shock formation of the supersonic jet nozzle using a Shadowgraph Method (SM) was carried out to investigate the effect of the longitudinal variation of coaxial pipe end tip position inside the supersonic nozzle. The experiment was performed for the Mach number range from 1.1 to 1.2 at nozzle exit. The well known shock cell structure was shown with the pipe end located deep inside the nozzle for the studied Mach number. With the pipe end approaches nozzle exit, it was found that the shock cell structure disappeared and turned into complex formation. In order to understand the mechanism of the shock structural change, computational simulation was carried out using the Navier-Stokes solver, FLUENT. Topological sketch was added with an aid of the visualization and the numerical simulation.

  • LBB(Leak-Before-Break) analysis is performed for the highest stress location of each different type of mateerials in the nuclear piping line. In most cases, the highest stress occurs in the pipe and nozzle interface location. i.e. terminal end. The current finite element analysis approach utilizes the symmetry condition both for locations near the nozzle and for locationa away from the nozzle to minimize the size of the finite element model and to make analysis simple when calculating the J-integral values at the crack tip. In other words, the nozzle is not included in the finite element model. However, in reality, the symmetric condition is not applicable for the pipe-nozzle interface location. Because the pipe-nozzle interface location is asymmetric due to different stiffenss of the pipe and nozzle(both material and dimensions). The simplified analysis approach for pipe-nozzle interface locaiton is too conservative for a smaller diameter piping. In tlhis paper, various analyses are performed for the range of materials and crack sizes to evaluate the nozzle effect for a LBB anlaysis. This paper presents methodology for developing the piping evaluaiton diagram at the pipe-nozzle interface location.

  • The atomization characteristics of the dual air supplying twin-fluid nozzle were investigated experimentally using PIV and PDA systems. The two-fluid nozzle is composed of three main parts: the feeding injector to supply fluid that is controlled by a PWM (pulse-width modulation) mode, the adaptor as a device with the ports for supplying the carrier and assist air and the main nozzle to produce the spray. The main nozzle has the swirl tip with four equally spaced tangential slots, which give the injecting fluid an angular momentum. The angle of the swirl tip varied with 0$^{\circ}$ 30$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$, and the ratios of carrier air to assist air and ALR(total air to liquid) were 0.55 and 1.23, respectively. The macroscopic behavior of the spray was investigated using PIV system, and the mean velocity, turbulent intensity and SMD distributions of the sprays were measured using PDA system. As the results, the mean axial velocity at the spray centerline decrease with the increase of the swirl angle. The turbulent intensities of the axial and radial velocity were increased with the increase of the swirl angle. The mean SMD (Sauter mean diameter) of the radial direction along the axial distance shows the lowest value at the swirl angle of 60$^{\circ}$.
