  • Artificial immune systems (AIS) are one of natural computing inspired by the natural immune system. The fault detection, the pattern recognition, the system control and the optimization are major application area of artificial immune systems. This paper gives a concept of artificial immune systems and useful techniques as like the clonal selection, the immune network theory and the negative selection. A concise survey on the optimization problem based on artificial immune systems is generated. The overall performance of artificial immune systems for the optimization problem is discussed.

  • Rhodium (II) (isobutyrate)$_{4}L_2$, an antinumor drug, was shown to reactr with nucleic acid base derivatives, A, G, U and C in chloroform solution. When these derivatives were treated with one of novel metal compounds, rhodium carboxylate in chloroform solution, a fairly strong complex formation was observed by spectroscopic techniques. The characteristic of these complex was that binding occured at the two axial positions of rhodium (II) (isobutyrate)$_{4}L_2$ to the NH or )$NH_2$ group of the base in the ligands.

  • In this paper, the implementation techniques of intelligent nuclear material surveillance system based on the SOM(Self Organized Mapping) was described. Unattended continuous surveillance systems for nuclear facility result in large amounts of data, which require much time and effort to inspect. Therefore, it is necessary to develop system that automatically pinpoints and diagnoses the anomalies from data. In this regards, this paper presents a novel concept of a continuous surveillance system that integrates visual image and radiation data by the use of neural networks based on self-organized feature mapping

  • A novel motion vector re-estimation technique for transcoding into lower spatial resolution is proposed. This technique is based on the fact that the block matching error is proportional to the complexity of the reference block with Taylor series expansion. It is shown that the motion vectors re-estimated by the proposed method are closer to optimal ones and offer better quality than those of previous techniques.

  • A new and effective Doppler effects compensation scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplex(OFDM) system based on constellation estimation is presented with analytical descriptions which quantitatively clarify the mechanism of inter-carrier interference(ICI). The proposed compensation techniques, applicable both frequency and time domain with remarkable accuracy, are crucial to the future OFDM system operating on ultra high speed mobile vehicles.

  • A network with high mobility nodes or vehicles is vehicular ad hoc Network (VANET). For improvement in communication efficiency of VANET, many techniques have been proposed; one of these techniques is vehicular node clustering. Cluster nodes (CNs) and Cluster Heads (CHs) are elected or selected in the process of clustering. The longer the lifetime of clusters and the lesser the number of CHs attributes to efficient networking in VANETs. In this paper, a novel Clustering algorithm is proposed based on Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) for VANET named ACONET. This algorithm forms optimized clusters to offer robust communication for VANETs. For optimized clustering, parameters of transmission range, direction, speed of the nodes and load balance factor (LBF) are considered. The ACONET is compared empirically with state of the art methods, including Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) and Comprehensive Learning Particle Swarm Optimization (CLPSO) based clustering techniques. An extensive set of experiments is performed by varying the grid size of the network, the transmission range of nodes, and total number of nodes in network to evaluate the effectiveness of the algorithms in comparison. The results indicate that the ACONET has significantly outperformed the competitors.

  • In this survey paper, we discuss biomedical ontologies and major text mining techniques applied to biomedicine and healthcare. Biomedical ontologies such as UMLS are currently being adopted in text mining approaches because they provide domain knowledge for text mining approaches. In addition, biomedical ontologies enable us to resolve many linguistic problems when text mining approaches handle biomedical literature. As the first example of text mining, document clustering is surveyed. Because a document set is normally multiple topic, text mining approaches use document clustering as a preprocessing step to group similar documents. Additionally, document clustering is able to inform the biomedical literature searches required for the practice of evidence-based medicine. We introduce Swanson's UnDiscovered Public Knowledge (UDPK) model to generate biomedical hypotheses from biomedical literature such as MEDLINE by discovering novel connections among logically-related biomedical concepts. Another important area of text mining is document classification. Document classification is a valuable tool for biomedical tasks that involve large amounts of text. We survey well-known classification techniques in biomedicine. As the last example of text mining in biomedicine and healthcare, we survey information extraction. Information extraction is the process of scanning text for information relevant to some interest, including extracting entities, relations, and events. We also address techniques and issues of evaluating text mining applications in biomedicine and healthcare.

  • Miniaturization of lenses has been widely researched by various scientific and engineering techniques. As a result, micro scaled lens structure could be easily achieved from various fabrication techniques; nevertheless it is still challenging to make nano scaled lenses. This paper reports a novel fabrication method of silicon nanotemplate for nanolens array. The inverse structure of nanolens array was fabricated on silicon substrate by reactive ion etching (RIE) process. This technique has a flexibility to produce different tip shapes using different pattern masks. Once the silicon nano-tip array structure is well-defined using an optimized recipe, it is followed by polymer molding to duplicate nanolens array from the template. Finally, the nanostructures formed on silicon nanotemplate and polymer replica were investigated using FE-SEM and AFM measurements. The nano scaled lens can be manufactured from the same template, also using other replication techniques such as imprinting, injection molding and so on.

  • In this paper, a novel and robust Power System Stabilizer (PSS) is proposed as an effective approach to improve stability in electric power systems. The dynamic performance of proposed PSS has been thoroughly compared with Conventional PSS (CPSS). Both the Real Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) techniques are applied to optimum tune the parameter of both the proposed PSS and CPSS in order to damp-out power system oscillations. Due to the high sufficiency of both the RCGA and PSO techniques to solve the very non-linear objective, they have been employed for solution of the optimization problem. In order to verify the dynamic performance of these devices, different conditions of disturbance are taken into account in Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) power system. Moreover, to ensure the robustness of proposed PSS in damping the power system multi-mode oscillations, a Multi Machine (MM) power system under various disturbances are considered as a test system. The results of nonlinear simulation strongly suggest that the proposed PSS significantly enhances the power system dynamic stability in both of the SMIB and MM power system as compared to CPSS.
