자동차 헤드라이트용 고압방전등 안정기 시스템의 새로운 점등방식 (Novel Ignition Method for Automotive HID lamp Ballast System)

  • This paper presents novel ignition method for automotive 35W metal halide discharge lamp electronic ballast. At this study, the novel method of ignition is developed to reduce costs and size of the ballast. By use of the novel method, the voltage needed in ignition is decreased, which result in use of the lower voltage rating power devices compared with conventional method and product compactness was achieved by deleting a circuit generating negative voltage needed in ignition at an conventional circuit. In terms of luminosity, color rendering, light efficiency(lm/W) and lifespan, the metal halide lamp is superior to, but unlike halogen lamp, it have more complicated transient characteristics to reach its steady state than the conventional halogen lamp. Therefore, in this paper, the electronic ballast was designed such that the metal halide lamp could be optimized for the automotive, by applying a method of microcontroller-based digital control. The results of the proposed system is verified through various experiment results.

H2O2-케로신 로켓을 초기 가속장치로 갖는 새로운 램젯 추진기관 (Novel Ramjet Propulsion System with H2O2-Kerosene Rocket as an Initial Accelerator)

  • 본 연구에서는 RBCC (Rocket Based Combined Cycle)엔진이나 기존 램제트 추진기관의 초기 추력 제공에 과산화수소 가스발생기를 이용하는 새로운 추진시스템을 제안하였고, 기초 연구 수행으로서 촉매 분해된 과산화수소 제트에 케로신을 분사하여 자연발화 및 연소 특성을 연구하였다. 과산화수소는 촉매 베드를 통하여 분해된 후 축소노즐을 통해 연소실로 분사됐으며 이 제트에 인젝터를 통하여 수직으로 케로신을 액상으로 분무하였다. 연소실내에서의 온도와 압력을 측정하여 점화를 확인하고 자연발화 특성을 조사하였다. 400°C의 연소실 온도와 연료와 산화제 혼합비 0.6이상에서 자연발화와 안정적인 연소가 가능하였다. 이 결과를 통하여 램제트의 새로운 초기 가속장치의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

Modeling unmanned aerial vehicle jet ignition wankel engines with CAE/CFD

  • The paper presents some details of the CFD modeling of a novel design where jet ignition devices replace the traditional spark plugs for a faster and more complete combustion. The numerical simulations show how the pre-chamber jet ignition in a Wankel engine differs from reciprocating piston engine applications. The jets issuing from the jet ignition pre-chamber have many different speeds in the different directions as the pressure build-up at the trailing edge of the rotating chamber makes extremely fast the ignition of the chamber mixture in the direction of rotation. Conversely it prevents the jet ignition in the opposite direction. Careful positioning along the periphery and design of the connecting pipes and the prechamber volume with the help of CFD simulations permits to achieve extremely fast and complete combustion as impossible with spark plugs. The paper proposes results of CFD simulations of the combustion evolution within a jet ignited Wankel engine rotor, detailing challenges and opportunities of the application, as well as a first assessment of the impact the faster and more complete combustion permitted by jet ignition may have on the performances of Wankel engines for unmanned aerial vehicles applications.

  • Simultaneous laser ignition and spectroscopy is a scheme that enables rapid determination of the local equivalence ratio and condensed fuel concentration during a reaction in a two phase spray flame. We have conducted quantitative analysis of the LIBS signals according to the equivalence ratio, droplet size, droplet number density and droplet concentration as a part of novel feedback control strategy proposed for flame ignition and stabilization with simultaneous in situ combustion flow diagnostics. This is a desirable scheme since such real time information onboard an engine for instance can be constantly monitored and fed back to the control loop to enhance the mixing process and minimize emissions of unwanted species and potential combustion instability.

  • The conventional Three-Stage electronic ballast is stable, but Two-Stage electronic ballast has been researching because of efficiency. Three-Stage electronic ballast is consisted of PFC circuit, buck converter, and inverter circuit, but Two-stage is consisted of PFC circuit, Buck-Inverter full bridge circuit. The Buck-Inverter full bridge inverter consists of two half bridge inverters for low frequency switching, and high frequency switching. In the case of street lamp it is far from a lamp to a ballast, the conventional pulsed high voltage ignitor can not turn on the HID lamps because of reduction of ignition voltage. Therefore, it needs to do the research on a resonant ignition to turn on the HID lamps. Therefore, in the Two-Stage electronic ballast which has the resonant tank for ignition, the transient resonant current because of low frequency changing is analyzed, the novel algorithm is proposed to resuce the transient current.

위상천이 풀브리지 인버터를 이용한 새로운 LCD CCFL 백라이트 전자식 안정기 (Novel LCD CCFL-backlight Electronic Ballast using the Phase-shift Full-bridge Inverter)

  • 본 논문에서는 위상천이 풀브리지 인버터를 이용한 새로운 LCD CCFL 백라이트 전자식 안정기를 제안한다. 제안한 전자식 안정기는 소프트스타팅이 적용된 새로운 형태의 디지털 디밍제어를 이용하여 CCFL의 점화전압을 감소시키고 전류스파이크를 제거함으로써, CCFL의 점화 특성을 향상 시키며 나아가 CCFL의 수명을 연장시킨다. 이를 위하여 본 논문은 제안한 전자식 안정기의 풀브리지 인버터 토폴로지를 간략하게 분석하고 여기에 적용된 새로운 디지털 디밍제어 알고리즘을 간단하게 설명한다. 그리고 본 논문은 프로토타입 회로의 설계예를 보이고 단일칩 마이크로컨트롤러 상에 소프트웨어적으로 구현되는 디지털 디밍제어의 구현 방식을 설명한다. 이것은 실제 프로토타입 전자식 안정기로 구현되었으며, 그 실험 결과를 통하여 제안한 전자식 안정기가 정확하게 동작함을 보였다. 제안한 전자식 안정기 프로토타입의 디지털 디밍제어 동작 시의 점화전압은 기존의 전자식 안정기와 비교하여 약 30[%] 정도 감소되었으며 어떠한 전류스파이크도 나타나지 않았다.

N2O 플라즈마 점화 하이브리드 로켓에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study of N2O Plasma Igniter for PMMA Combustion)

  • 아산화질소($N_2O$) 열분해를 위해 아크 플라즈마를 이용한 점화 실험을 수행하였다. 기존의 점화기들은 신뢰성 및 즉각적인 응답을 얻기 어렵다는 단점을 해결하기 위한 방안으로 플라즈마를 활용하는 방안을 제시하고자 하며, 점화기로써의 가능성을 보기 위해 가스 온도 측정 및 연소 실험을 수행하였다. 1 g/s, 0.7 A 조건에서 가장 안정적인 방전 특성을 보였으며 이때 측정된 벽면 부근의 온도는 약 $960^{\circ}C$이었다. 이를 바탕으로 하이브리드 로켓 연소 실험을 수행하였다. 플라즈마 방전 이후 약 3.1 sec만에 총 유량 10 g/s의 메인 연소가 성공적으로 이루어졌으며 점화에 필요한 플라즈마 발생을 위한 에너지 소모량은 1,780 J이었다.

MEMS Application of Quenching Effect to a Novel Micro Solid Rocket

  • Precise position and attitude control of pico-satellite requires huge number of impulses of the order of 10$^{-6}$ Ns. MEMS solid rocket array is a promising propulsion system but the higher degree of miniaturization causes unreliable operation mainly due to quenching. In order to breakthrough this situation, a novel design of solid micro-rocket is proposed, which generates tiny impulses repetitively from a single rocket not from array. This unique micro-rocket is based on the utilization of quenching, which causes propellant reaction to sustain only in a small area. A test chip of a micro solid propellant tank and micro heater array is fabricated and ignition test is conducted. Obtained results show the feasibility of this concept and future direction of this quenching-based propulsion is discussed.

Novel Ramjet Propulsion System using Liquid Bipropellant Rocket for Launch Stage

  • Ramjets are capable of much higher specific impulse than liquid rocket engines for high speed flight in the atmosphere. Ramjets, however, cannot generate thrust at low flight speed. Therefore, an additional propulsion device to accelerate the ramjet vehicle to a supersonic speed is required. In this study, we propose a novel ramjet propulsion system with a $H_2O_2$/Kerosene rocket as the accelerator for initial stage. In order to test the feasibility of this concept, consecutive reactors was built; one for the decomposition of $H_2O_2$ and the other for kerosene combustion. Decomposed $H_2O_2$ jet was injected to combustor through converging nozzle from gas generator and over this hot oxygen jet, kerosene was injected by spay injector. Through the various test cases, hypergolic ignition test was carried out and steady combustion was achieved.
