Statement of problem : Tooth wear is physiological phenomenon. Ninety-seven percent of normal people have tooth wear and about 7% has pathologic teeth wear. If we know the amount of tooth surface loss caused by pathologic tooth wear, we may restore it ideally Purpose : Recently measurement of tooth wear by using 3D scan has been increasing. Therefore, we need to know how accurate 3D scan is. Past accuracy test on 3D scan was about linear change, but as we know that tooth wear is volume change. Thus, the purpose of this study is to know how accurate 3D scan is. Material and Methods : For accuracy test of 3D scanner volume values measured by 3D scanner and micro-balance were compared. For test I, preliminary, 3 ball samples and 3 circular cones were made with pattern resin. For test II, 10 teeth shape rubber samples were used. Results and Conclusion : 1. The result of the accuracy test on 3D scan with 3 ball samples and 3 circular cones made of pattern resin has no significant difference(p<0.05). 2. The result of the accuracy test on 3D scan with 10 samples of tooth shape rubber has no significant difference (p<0.05). As a result, we may concluded the analysis of quantifying tooth wear used by 3D scan is useful in the clinic.

The object of this paper is to evaluate the fission product inventories and radiological doses in a non-LOCA event, based on the U.S. NRC's regulatory methodologies recommended by the TID-14844 and the RG 1.195. For choosing a non-LOCA event, one fuel assembly was assumed to be melted by a channel blockage accident. The Hanul nuclear power reactor unit 6 and the CE $16{\times}16$ fuel assembly were selected as the computational models. The burnup cross section library for depletion calculations was produced using the TRITON module in the SCALE6.1 computer code system. Based on the recently licensed values for fuel enrichment and burnup, the source term calculation was performed using the ORIGEN-ARP module. The fission product inventories released into the environment were obtained with the assumptions of the TID-14844 and the RG 1.195. With two kinds of source terms, the radiological doses of public in normal environment reflecting realistic circumstances were evaluated by applying the average condition of meteorology, inhalation rate, and shielding factor. The statistical analysis was first carried out using consecutive three year-meteorological data measured at the Hanul site. The annual-averaged atmospheric dispersion factors were evaluated at the shortest representative distance of 1,000 m, where the residents are actually able to live from the reactor core, according to the methodology recommended by the RG 1.111. The Korean characteristic-inhalation rate and shielding factor of a building were considered for a series of dose calculations.
In this study, the interfacial stresses in RC beams strengthened by externally bonded prestressed GFRP laminate are evaluated using an analytical approach, based on the equilibrium equations and boundary conditions. A comparison of the interfacial stresses obtained from the present analytical model and other existing models is undertaken. Otherwise, a parametric study is conducted to investigate the effects of geometrical and material properties on the variation of interfacial stresses in damaged RC beams strengthened by externally bonded prestressed GFRP laminate. The results obtained indicate that the damage degree has little effect on the maximum shear stress, with a variation less than 5% between the damaged and undamaged RC beams. However, the results also reveal that the prestressing level has a significant effect on the interfacial stresses; hence the damaged RC beam strengthened with an initial prestressing force of 100 kN gives 110% higher maximum shear stress than the damaged RC beam strengthened with an initial prestressing force of 50 kN. The values of shear stress obtained by the analytical approach are approximately equal to 44% of those obtained from the numerical solution, while the interfacial normal stresses predicted by the numerical study are approximately 26% higher than those calculated by the analytical solution.
Purpose: D-dimer levels are known to be associated with poor outcomes in patients with various cancers, but their significance at the end of life remains unclear. This study investigated D-dimer levels as a prognostic indicator for terminal cancer patients in the last hours of life. Methods: The retrospective study was conducted at a palliative care unit of a tertiary cancer center, using a database to analyze the records of patients treated from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2018. In total, 67 terminal cancer patients with available data on D-dimer levels were included. Patients' demographic data, clinical information, and laboratory values, including D-dimer levels, were collected. Survival was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank test. A Cox proportional-hazards model was used to identify prognostic factors of poor survival. Results: The most common site of cancer was the lung (32.8%) and the median survival time was 5 days. Most laboratory results, particularly D-dimer levels, deviated from the normal range. Patients with high D-dimer levels had a significantly shorter survival time than those with low D-dimer levels (4 days vs. 7 days; P=0.012). In the Cox regression analysis, only a high D-dimer level was identified as a predictor of a poor prognosis (hazard ratio, 1.83; 95% confidence interval, 1.09~3.07). Conclusion: Our results suggest that at the very end of life, D-dimer levels may serve as a prognostic factor for survival in cancer patients.
The October 23 2011 Van Earthquake is studied from an earthquake engineering point of view. Strong ground motion processing was performed to investigate features of the earthquake source, forward directivity effects during the rupture process as well as local site effects. Strong motion characteristics were investigated in terms of peak ground motion and spectral acceleration values. Directiviy effects were discussed in detail via elastic response spectra and wide band spectograms to see the high frequency energy distributions. Source parameters and slip distribution results of the earthquake which had been proposed by different researchers were summarized. Influence of the source parameters on structural response were shown by comparing elastic response spectra of Muradiye synthetic records which were performed by broadband strong motion simulations of the earthquake. It has been emphasized that characteristics of the earthquake rupture dynamics and their effects on structural design might be investigated from a multidisciplinary point of view. Seismotectonic calculations (e.g., slip pattern, rupture velocity) may be extended relating different engineering parameters (e.g., interstorey drifts, spectral accelerations) across different disciplines while using code based seismic design approaches. Current state of the art building codes still far from fully reflecting earthquake source related parameters into design rules. Some of those deficiencies and recent efforts to overcome these problems were also mentioned. Next generation ground motion prediction equations (GMPEs) may be incorporated with certain site categories for site effects. Likewise in the 2011 Van Earthquake, Reverse/Oblique earthquakes indicate that GMPEs need to be feasible to a wider range of magnitudes and distances in engineering practice. Due to the reverse faulting with large slip and dip angles, vertical displacements along with directivity and fault normal effects might significantly affect the engineering structures. Main reason of excessive damage in the town of Erciş can be attributed to these factors. Such effects should be considered in advance through the establishment of vertical design spectra and effects might be incorporated in the available GMPEs.

The variation and structure of the cold water mass around Ganjeol Point during the summer of 2011 were studied using data from CTD observations and temperature monitoring buoys deployed at 20 stations off the southeast coast of Korea. There was a $-12^{\circ}C$ surface temperature difference between the cold water mass and normal water during the monitoring period. Variations in the isothermal lines for surface temperature along the coast showed that the seabed topography at Ganjeol Point played an important part in the distribution of water temperature. Cold water appeared when the wind components running parallel to the coast had positive values. The upwelling -response for temperature fluctuations was very sensitive to changes in wind direction. Vertical turbulent mixing due to the seabed topography at Ganjeol Point can reinforce the upwelling of cold bottom water. From wavelet analysis, coherent periods found to be 2-8 days during frequent upwelling events and phase differences for a decrease in water temperature with a SSW wind were 12-36 hours.
The combined effects of reactivity coefficients, along with other core nuclear characteristics, determine reactor core behavior in normal operation and accident conditions. The Power Coefficient of Reactivity (PCR) is an aggregate indicator representing the change in reactor core reactivity per unit change in reactor power. It is an integral quantity which captures the contributions of the fuel temperature, coolant void, and coolant temperature reactivity feedbacks. All nuclear reactor designs provide a balance between their inherent nuclear characteristics and the engineered reactivity control features, to ensure that changes in reactivity under all operating conditions are maintained within a safe range. The $CANDU^{(R)}$ reactor design takes advantage of its inherent nuclear characteristics, namely a small magnitude of reactivity coefficients, minimal excess reactivity, and very long prompt neutron lifetime, to mitigate the demand on the engineered systems for controlling reactivity and responding to accidents. In particular, CANDU reactors have always taken advantage of the small value of the PCR associated with their design characteristics, such that the overall design and safety characteristics of the reactor are not sensitive to the value of the PCR. For other reactor design concepts a PCR which is both large and negative is an important aspect in the design of their engineered systems for controlling reactivity. It will be demonstrated that during Loss of Regulation Control (LORC) and Large Break Loss of Coolant Accident (LBLOCA) events, the impact of variations in power coefficient, including a hypothesized larger than estimated PCR, has no safety-significance for CANDU reactor design. Since the CANDU 6 PCR is small, variations in the range of values for PCR on the performance or safety of the reactor are not significant.
The purpose of current study is to investigate the beneficial effect of enzyme (Alcalase) hydrolysates of silk protein in rat. Alcalase-treated silk protein hydrolysate (ATSH) itself did not show any cytotoxicity on the hepatic tissues and blood biochemistry, similar to the normal condition. ATSH played a protective role in tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP)-induced hepatotoxicity and liver damage. The values of AST (aspartate aminotransferase) and ALT (alanine aminotransferase), which are the indicators of the liver function, were effectively alleviated with the ATSH treatment in a dose dependent manner. The level of Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and Malondialdehyde (MDA), which were increased with t-BHP treatment, were significantly reduced by ATSH. High dose of ATSH (2 g/kg) reduced the t-BHP-induced LDH release by 48%. Antioxidant and antioxidant enzymes in liver cells were significantly increased by ATSH treatment in their level and activities. ATSH (2 g/kg) increased glutathione (GSH), an intracelluar antioxidant, by 2.5-fold compared with the t-BHP treated group. The activities of glutathione-s-transferase (GST), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase were also elevated by 38%, 60%, and 45%, respectively, with ATSH (2 g/kg) treatment. The antioxidative effect of ATSH was recapitulated to the protection from t-BHP induced liver damages in hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. Thus, ATSH might be used as a hepatoprotective agent.
This study was designed to examine the effects of sea buckthorn (SBT) on the plasma blood glucose and cholesterol level in diabetic rats. Diabetes mellitus was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 200~220 g by an injection of streptozotocin (STZ) dissolved in a citrate buffer into the tail vein at a dose of 45 mg/kg of body weight. Sprague-Dawley rats were fed an AIN-93 recommended diet and the experimental groups were fed a modified diet containing 10% and 20% of SBT powder for 4 weeks. The experimental groups were divided into 6 groups which consisted of normal (N)-control group, N-SBT 10% and N-SBT 20% treated groups, STZ-control, STZ-SBT 10% and STZ-SBT 20% treated groups. The rats' body weight, aminotransferase activities and hematocrit (Hct) values were measured along with plasma levels of blood glucose and cholesterol. Body weight losses were observed by diabetic groups While the nondiabetic rats gained weight. There were significant differences between the control group and the diabetic groups in the weight of kidney. Aspartate aminotransferase activity was lower in the non-diabetic group compared to diabetic experimental groups. The blood glucose were significantly decreased in the 10% SBT of diabetic group. The cholesterol level of STZ-SBT 10% and STZ- SBT 20% were significantly lower than for the STZ-control group. These results show that the supplementation of sea buckthorn leave powder may have favorable influence on reducing blood glucose and cholesterol level in STZ-induced diabetic rats.
A column preconcentration method with pulverized Amberlite XAD-4 loaded with bismuthiol I (BI) has been developed for the determination of trace Cd(II) and Cu(II) in various real samples by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Various experimental conditions, such as the size of XAD-4, adsorption flow rate, amount of bismuthiol I, stirring time for adsorbing bismuthiol I on XAD-4, pH of sample solution, amount of XAD-4- BI, desorption solvent, and desorption flow rate, were optimized. Also, the adsorption capacity and the adsorption rate of Cd(II) and Cu(II) on XAD-4-BI were investigated. The interfering effects of various concomitant ions were investigated, Bi(III), Sn(II) and Fe(III) were found to affect the determination. But the interference by these ions was completely eliminated by adjusting the amount of XAD-4-BI resin to 0.70 g, although the adsorption flow rate was slower. For Cd(II) our proposed technique obtained a dynamic range of 0.5-40 ng mL-1, a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9913, and a detection limit of 0.3 ng mL-1. For Cu(II), the corresponding values were 2.0-120 ng mL-1, 0.9921 and 1.02 ng mL-1. To validate this proposed technique, the aqueous samples (stream water, reservoir water, tap water and wastewater), the diluted brass sample and the plastic sample, as real samples, were used. Recovery yields of 91-103% were obtained. These measured data were not different from ICP-MS data at 95% confidence level. Our proposed method was also validated using rice flour CRM (normal, fortified) samples. From the results of our experiment, we found that the technique we present here can be applied to the determination of Cd(II) and Cu(II) in various real samples.
