The interface system, GIS-AGNPS was to be validated with field data from six tested small watersheds ranging from 0.7 to 4.7$km^2$ in size which have steep topography and complex landuses. The model validation involved the calibration of input parameters and component modifications, in efforts to develop a model applicable to general uses for identifying and controlling nonpoint source pollution loads from agricultural watersheds. The simulated direct runoff from AGNPS was in good agreement with the field data for the averaged antecedent moisture conditions or AMC- II. The results differed, however, from the observed for AMC- I or III. A simple empirical relationship was proposed to estimate the curve number for AMC- I or m from AMC- II, which was found to result in simulated runoff close to the observed. The peak runoff relationship at AGNPS was also modified to reflect the watershed conditions and tested satisfactorily with the field data. The simulated sediment yields from the watersheds were fair as compared to the observed. Nutrient loads simulated from the model were different from the observed data. It appeared that the model was incapable of adequate depicting nutrient transport processes at paddy field and other landuses of the tested watersheds. Some modifications may be needed for the accurate representing the processes at paddy field.

This study is to check the applicability of SWAT-APEX (Soil and Water Assessment Tool-Agricultural Policy / Environmental eXtender) model as combined watershed and field models by applying the APEX to paddies in a watershed (465.1 $km^2$) including Yedang reservoir. Firstly, the SWAT were calibrated with 3 years (2000~2002) daily streamflow and monthly water quality (T-N and T-P) data, and validated for another 3 years (2003~2005) data. The average Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiency (ME) of streamflow during validation was 0.73, and the coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of T-N and T-P were 0.77 and 0.73 respectively. Next, running the SWAT-APEX model with the SWAT calibrated parameters for paddies, the $R^2$ of T-N and T-P were 0.80 and 0.76 respectively. The results showed that SWAT-APEX model was more correctly predicted for T-N and T-P loads than SWAT model. The difference results between watershed and field models was predicted to have substantial impact on NPS loads, especially on T-N and T-P loads. Therefore, to improve negative NPS load simulations should be considered the model characteristics as simulating mechanism to properly select the NPS model for agricultural watershed.

The purpose of this study is to make a design guideline in designing constructed wetland which can treat water quality both of point and nonpoint source water pollution. It focuses on structural aspects of two case studies of constructed wetland applying SSB(Sustainable Structured wetland Biotope) system in Korea. The constructed wetland of Lake Ju-am which was constructed in 2002 by Environmental Management Corporation, was designed by applying SSB system. It shows higher removal efficiency than expected - 56% of BOD removal efficiency, 60% of T-N removal, and 76% of T-P removal efficiency. In two cases, total wetland areal extents were calculated referred to treatment efficiency. The system is consist of micro-cell structures : inflow channel, forebay, multiple wetland cells and micro-pool. When designing constructed wetland appropriate in local area, the total organic system of vertical and horizontal structure : geology, hydrology, land use, and ecological surroundings of the sites should be considered totally.
In this study, regression equation was analyzed to estimate non-point source (NPS) pollutant loads in orchard area. Many factors affecting the runoff of NPS pollutant as precipitation, storm duration time, antecedent dry weather period, total runoff density, average storm intensity and average runoff intensity were used as independent variables, NPS pollutant was used as a dependent variable to estimate multiple regression equation. Based on the real measurement data from 2008 to 2012, we performed correlation analysis among the environmental variables related to the rainfall NPS pollutant runoff. Significance test was confirmed that T-P ($R^2=0.89$) and BOD ($R^2=0.79$) showed the highest similarity with the estimated regression equations according to the NPS pollutant followed by SS and T-N with good similarity ($R^2$ >0.5). In the case of regression equation to estimate the NPS pollutant loads, regression equations of multiplied independent variables by exponential function and the logarithmic function model represented optimum with the experimented value.
In this study, some of the model verification results of STREAM (Spatio-Temporal River-basin Ecohydrology Analysis Model), a newly-developed hybrid watershed model, are presented for the runoff processes of nonpoint source pollution. For verification study of STREAM, the model was applied to a test watershed and a sensitivity analysis was also carried out for selected parameters. STREAM was applied to the Mankyung River Watershed to review the applicability of the model in the course of model calibration and validation against the stream flow discharge, suspended sediment discharge and some water quality items (TOC, TN, TP) measured at the watershed outlet. The model setup, simulation and data I/O modules worked as designed and both of the calibration and validation results showed good agreement between the simulated and the measured data sets: NSE over 0.7 and $R^2$ greater than 0.8. The simulation results also include the spatial distribution of runoff processes and watershed mass balance at the watershed scale. Additionally, the irrigation process of the model was examined in detail at reservoirs and paddy fields.

Nonpoint source (NPS) pollution from small watersheds has recently been brought into attention as a potential pollutant to streams and tnbutaries, as majority of them are experiencing water quality degradation. This necessiates the quantification of NPS loadings from agricultural and forested lands. And this study attempts to quantify daily loadings from forested and farm lands using hydrologic and water quality monitoring. The hydrologic monitoring program consists of five water level gauging stations along creeks and stream at the Banweol reservoir watershed having 1220 hectare in size. Water sam pies were taken and analyzeel periodically at the streamf low gaging sites and tributaries. Soil samples were also taken and the chemical constitutes analyzed. The primary results indicate that the major sources of pollution were small villages and dairy farms on the watersheds, constituting two-third of total nutrient loadings to the reservoir. However, the loadings from paddies and upland areas may cause a problem to the water quality of the reservoir and stream as the measured levels of total nitrogen and phosporus are not low enough to ignore. Further studies are needed to quantify the effects of landuses and treatments at a watershed scale.

The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristics of behavior of nutrients such as TN (Total nitrogen), TDN (Total dissolved nitrogen), TP (Total phosphorus) TDP (Total dissolved phosphorous) in runoff water from a nonpoint source dominated watershed ($6.67\;km^2$). Regular and intensive flow measurement and water sampling were taken during two years (February 2002 to January 2004) in the Ingyeong River, a tributary of the Han River. The mean concentrations of nutrients during rainy days were significantly (p < 0.05) higher than those during dry days. The mean TDN/TN ratio in rainy days (95%) is almost identical to that in dry days (96%), but mean TDP/TP ratio in rainy days (24%) significantly decreased compared with that in dry days (66%), suggesting that dominant form of TP is shifted from dissolved form to particulate form. Accordingly, the measures (.eg. filter strips, cover crops) to reduce soil erosion for fallow upland in the rainy season should be taken to control particulate phosphorous.
Nonpoint sources of pollution (NPS) is defined as diffuse discharges of pollutants (e.g., nutrient, pesticide, sediment, and enteric microorganism) throughout the natural environment and they are associated with a variety of farming practices. Previous studies found that water soluble anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) is one of the highly effective measures for enhancing infiltration, reducing runoff, preventing erosion, controlling nonpoint source of pollutants, and eventually protecting soil and water environment. Potential benefits of PAM treatment in agricultural soil and water environments have been revealed by many research and they include low cost, easy and quick application, and suitability for use with other Best Management Practices (BMPs) for NPS control. This study reviews the various applications of PAM and discusses its further potentials in agricultural environment.

The 21st century is that both human and environment live together. The advancing knowledge concerning our environment instigates a change in understanding about the physical surroundings. The construction field particularly induces significant improvements that are environmental-friendly. To convene this demand, several manuals and guidelines related to the environmental issues have been enacted and amended. Especially the manuals and guidelines issued from Ministry of Environment (MOC) and Ministry of Construction and Transportation (MOCT) is requiring the addition of environmental knowledge in construction technology. Recently, environmental assessments and advanced environmental measures in various kinds of construction are persuasively been carried out. The policy of Total Maximum Daily Load is the one more reason for the revisions of the manual and guideline, which is really requiring the addition of the environmental knowledge in construction technology. Therefore, this research is focusing on revising the manuals and guidelines related to road construction and maintenance works issued from MOCT.
