  • New conductor is developed by using high strength nonmagnetic steel(NM) wire as the core of overhead conductor This conductor is called ACNR overhead conductor(Aluminum Conductor Nonmagnetic Steel Reinforced). Formed by the combination of aluminum alloy wire and high strength nonmagnetic steel wire, it has about the same weight and diameter as conventional ACSR overhead conductor. To enhance properties beneficial in an electrical and mechanical conductor during the Process of high strength nonmagnetic steel wire, we made a large number of improvements and modifications in the working process, aluminum cladded method, and other process. ACNR overhead conductor, we successfully developed, has mechanical and electrical properties as good as or even better than conventional galvanized wire. Microstructure of raw material NM wire was austenite and then deformed martensite after drawing process. Strength at room temperature is about $180kgf/mm^2\~200kgf/mm^2$. The conductivity at 0.78 mm thickness of Aluminum cladded M wire is about $7\%$ IACS higher than $20\%$IACS of HC wire used as core of commercial ACSR overhead conductor. The corrosion resistance is about 3 times higher than that of HC wire.

  • The films with ferromagnetic fine particles dispersed in nonmagnetic matrix, such as $Fe-Al_2O_3$ and Fe-Cu have been studied for use of magnetic recording medium, optically device and sensor. Their magnetic properties depend strongly on structural parameter such as size and volume fraction of ferromagnetic particles. Fe-Cr-Ni alloy sputtered films also have microstructure with ferromagnetic -- b.c.c phase and nonmagnetic f.c.c phase grains. Magnetic properties of these films depend strongly on such a unique structure. These are depend on the ratio in volume of ferromagnetic particles to nonmagnetic ones $V_F/V_N$, the saturation magnetization Ms increased with increase of $V_F/V_N$. The coercivity Hc of the as-deposited films took maximum value of about 200 Oe at adequate $V_F/V_N$ and then Ms and Squareness S were 500 emu/cc and 0.5, respectively.(omitted)

  • This paper presents the transient behavior of the switching surge voltages generated by interruption of DC ground fault currents flowing through metal flexible conduits. All fault circuits consist of line parameters such as resistance, inductance, capacitance and conductance. The use of nonmagnetic metal conduits should be taken into account in order to reduce the inductance of battery charger distribution circuits. The frequency-dependent circuit parameters of metal flexible conduits were measured. The switching surge voltages generated at the ground fault circuit consisted of steel-galvanized alloy and aluminium conduits were investigated. As a result, the impedances of metal flexible conduits are significantly increased over the range of the frequency above 10 kHz and the switching surge voltages generated along aluminium flexible conduit are lower than those along steel-galvanized alloy conduit when DC fault current is interrupted.

  • The recent trends of rotating machinery demand high speed and high temperature operation, and the bearing with new material is required to be developed. Ceramic, especially silicon nitride, have been receiving attention as alternative material to conventional bearing steel. Ceramic ball bearing offers major performance advantages over steel bearing, for instance, high speed, maginal lubrication, high temperature, improved corrosion resistance and nonmagnetic capabilities etc.. In this paper, the mechanical characteristics of ceramic ball bearing (hybrid ceramic bearing and all ceramic bearing) were investigated, and the characteristics of ceramic bearing were compared with that of steel bearing. Deep groove ball bearing 6208 was taken the object of analysis. The main results of analysis were followings: the radial stiffness of hybrid and all ceramic bearing were 112% and 130% that of steel bearing, and the axial stiffness of all ceramic bearing was 110% that of steel bearing. According as rotating speed was up, the ball load, the contact angle, the contact stress and the spin-to-roll ratio between ball and raceway of ceramic bearing were far smaller than these of steel bearing. And there was not a significant difference between the minimum film thickness of ceramic bearing and steel bearing. It is expected that this research is contributed to enhanced fundamental technology for the practical applications of ceramic ball bearing.

  • High manganese steel was maintained stability of Non-Magnetics performance. Fatigue tests were carried out under constant stress amplitude, using a non-magnetic high manganese steel. The fatigue crack growth mechanism of the high manganese steel was clarified from results such as observation of crack growth path and fracture surface. The result of getting this study was shown as following: 1) Remarkably ${\Delta}Kth$ of the high manganese steel is big with about 3 times of the general steel product. 2) In the low ${\Delta}K$ value region, da/dN is dependent on Kmax, and in the high ${\Delta}K$ value region, it is dependent on ${\Delta}Keff$. The reason of this behavior is crack closure due to fracture surface roughness and fretting oxide. 3) It seems to ease the stress concentration of crack tip crack growth behavior in the ${\Delta}Kth$ vicinity by the generation of the secondary crack.

  • ACSR(Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced)가공송전선은 교류전류의 흐름에 의하여 코어 (Core)부에 자기장이 발생되어 전력손실을 발생시킨다. 이로 인한 전력손실을 최소화 하는 방법으로는 코어의 재질을 자성체인 고탄소강선 대신에 비자성강으로 교체하는 방법이 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 고탄소강선 대신에 고강도 비자성강을 코어(Core)에 적용한 ACNR(Aluminum Conductor Nonmagnetic Steel Reinforced) 가공송전선을 개발하였다.

  • Externally bonding fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets with an epoxy resin is an effective technique for strengthening and repairing reinforced concrete (RC) beams under flexural loads. Their resistance to electro-chemical corrosion, high strength-to-weight ratio, larger creep strain, fatigue resistance, and nonmagnetic and nonmetallic properties make carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites a viable alternative to bonding of steel plates in repair and rehabilitation of RC structures. The objective of this investigation is to study the effectiveness of CFRP sheets on ductility and flexural strength of reinforced high strength concrete (HSC) beams. This objective is achieved by conducting the following tasks: (1) flexural four-point testing of reinforced HSC beams strengthened with different amounts of cross-ply of CFRP sheets with different amount of tensile reinforcement up to failure; (2) calculating the effect of different layouts of CFRP sheets on the flexural strength; (3) Evaluating the failure modes; (4) developing an analytical procedure based on compatibility of deformations and equilibrium of forces to calculate the flexural strength of reinforced HSC beams strengthened with CFRP composites; and (5) comparing the analytical calculations with experimental results.

  • The properties of $2^{nd}$ generation high temperature superconducting wire, coated conductor strongly depend on the quality of superconducting oxide layer and property of metal substrate is one of the most important factors affecting the quality of coated conductor. Good mechanical and chemical stability at high temperature are required to maintain the initial integrity during the various process steps required to deposit several layers consisting coated conductor. And substrate need to be nonmagnetic to reduce magnetization loss for ac application. Hastelloy and stainless steel are the most suitable alloys for metal substrate. One of the obstacles in using stainless steel as substrate for coated conductor is its difficulties in making smooth surface inevitable for depositing good IBAD layer. Conventional method involves several steps such as electro polishing, deposition of $Al_2O_3$ and $Y_2O_3$ before IBAD process. Chemical solution deposition method can simplify those steps into one step process having uniformity in large area. In this research, we tried to improve the surface roughness of stainless steel(SUS310). The precursor coating solution was synthesized by using yttrium complex. The viscosity of coating solution and heat treatment condition were optimized for smooth surface. A smooth amorphous $Y_2O_3$ thin film suitable for IBAD process was coated on SUS310 tape. The surface roughness was improved from 40nm to 1.8 nm by 4 coatings. The IBAD-MgO layer deposited on prepared substrate showed good in plane alignment(${\Delta}{\phi}$) of $6.2^{\circ}$.
