  • The purpose of this paper is to find an effective control system for a hydraulic motor-load system using matlab. The Hydraulic control system consists of a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic proportional control valve, hydraulic pipelines, a hydraulic motor and a load system. The simulation models were verified by comparing the simulation results with measured data from the real hydraulic proportional position control system. In order to compensate the nonlinear friction characteristics in a hydraulic motor-load system, a discrete time PD controller and Friction torque observer has been applied.

  • This paper deals with the stator design solution of a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) with various slot numbers by loss & torque characteristics related to the slot open and teeth width using coupled Preisach modeling & FEM. The coupled Finite Elements Analysis (FEA) & Preisach model have been used to evaluate the nonlinear solution. Comparisons are given with characteristics of SynRM according to stator winding, slot number, slot open and teeth width variation.

  • In this paper, the mathematical modeling and the design of controllers were performed for the dynamic performance simulation of the diesel engine for underwater vehicle. Nonlinear equations are acquired through the mathematical modeling using mean torque production model technique. Three kinds of controllers were designed for the perform simulation of the engine model. As the result of simulation, it was confirmed that each controller can be applied with regard to system characteristics and desired conditions etc.

  • Wind turbine system is converting wind energy into electric energy. In nature, torque of the blade is nonlinear function. To get a high quality electric power, system needs control of blade angle. The control of a blade is divided into a stall regulation type and a pitch control type. Pitch control type is more expensive and complicated, but it can make torque of the blade in accordance with variable wind. This paper shows 2MW pitch control system's hardware and electric part.

  • Reaction wheel shows nonlinear torque response on low-speed region due to friction. Thus precise satellite attitude control on this region is hard to achieve. Previous research tries to solve this problem, by compensating friction or applying dither command. However, due to difficulties of drag torque modeling or frequent zero wheel speed crossing, these methods are not suitable to apply on the real satellite attitude control. To solve this problem, we propose the attitude controller gain adjustment method based on the attitude error.

  • In electric machine design, there is a large computation cost for finite element analyses (FEA) when analyzing nonlinear characteristics in the machine Therefore, for the optimal design of an electric machine, designers commonly use an optimization algorithm capable of excellent convergence performance. However, robustness consideration, as this factor can guarantee machine performances capabilities within design uncertainties such as the manufacturing tolerance or external perturbations, is essential during the machine design process. Moreover, additional FEA is required to search robust optimum. To address this issue, this paper proposes a computationally efficient robust optimization algorithm. To reduce the computational burden of the FEA, the proposed algorithm employs a useful technique which termed static analysis assisted technique (SAAT). The proposed method is verified via the effective robust optimal design of electric machine to reduce cogging torque at a reasonable computational cost.

  • This paper presents a simple torque estimation method and switching angle control of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) using Neural Network (NN). SRM has gaining much interest as industrial applications due to the simple structure and high efficiency. Adaptive switching angle control is essential for the optimal driving of SRM because of the driving characteristic varies with the load and speed. The proper switching angle which can increase the efficiency was investigated in this paper. NN was adapted to regulate the switching angle and nonlinear inductance modelling. Experimental result shows the validity of the switching angle controller.

  • We propose robust control scheme for flexible joint manipulator in the presence of nonlinearity and mismatched uncertainty. The control is designed based on Lyapunov approach. The robust control which is based on the computed torque scheme and state transformation via implanted control is introduced. The design procedure starts with the construction of linearized subsystems via the computed torque method and then uses state transformation. With this approach we do not impose an upper-bound constraint on the inertia matrix in case it is known. Thus, this control can be applied to arbitrary manipulators. The resulting robust control guarantees practical stability for both the transformed system and the original system. The transformation is only based on the possible bound of uncertainty.

  • The computed-torque method (CTM) shows good trajectory tracking performance in controlling robot manipulator if there is no disturbance or modelling errors. But with the increase of a payload or the disturbance of a manipulator, the tracking errors become large. So there have been many researches to reduce the tracking error. In this paper, we propose a new control algorithm based on the CTM that decreases a tracking error by generating new reference trajectory to the controller. In this algorithm we used the concept of sliding mode theory and fuzzy system to reduce chattering in control input. For the numerical simulation, we used a 2-link robot manipulator. To simulate the disturbance due to a modelling uncertainty, we added errors to each elements of the inertia matrix and the nonlinear terms and assumed a payload to the end-effector. In this simulation, proposed method showed better trajectory tracking performance compared with the CTM.

  • This paper presents results of the effect of different bolt tightening sequences and methods on the performance of gasketed bolted flange joint using nonlinear finite element analysis. Bolt preload scatter due to elastic interactions, flange stress variation and bolt bending due to flange rotation and gasket contact stress variation is difficult to eliminate in torque control method i.e. tightening one bolt at a time. Although stretch control method (tightening more than one bolt at time) eradicates the bolt preload scatter, flange stress variation is relatively high. Flange joint's performance is compared to establish relative merits and demerits of both the methods and different bolt tightening sequences.
