  • In this study, the effect of semi-rigid connections on the structural behavior of 20-story braced steel structure has been investigated utilizing the second-order elastic structural analysis program in which nonlinear behavior of beam-column connections and geometric nonlinearity have been considered. Global effects such as P-delta effect and sway at the top have been studied, as well as distribution of member force and combined stress in structural members as local effects. When the structure subjected to horizontal load and vertical load is equipped with lateral-load resisting system such as braces, replacement of shear connection with semi-rigid connection has not caused any problem in P-delta effect and top lateral displacement. Distribution of member forces resulted in reduction in member size for economic structural design.

  • The results of an experimental and analytical study of composite pressure hull on buckling pressure are presented for LRN 300. Composite tensile test was done to know the composite material properties applied FE analysis for URN composite. We predicted the buckling and post buckling analysis of composite laminated cylindrical panels under external compression by using ABAQUS /Standard[Ver 6.4]. To obtain nonlinear static equilibrium solutions for unstable problems, where the load-displacement response can exhibit the type of nonlinear buckling behavior, during periods of the response, the load and/or the displacement may decrease as the solution evolves, used the modified Riks method. The modified Riks method is an algorithm that allows effective solution of such cases [7]. Experiments were conducted to verify the validation of present analysis for cross-ply laminated shells. The shells considered in the study have two different lamination patterns, $[{\pm}45/0/90]_{18s\;and}\;[/0/90]_{18s}$. Cylindrical panel of experiment and analysis have the radius of 200mm, length of 210mm and 60 degree of cutting angle. The critical load from experiment is $69\%$ of that of numerical analysis, because the fracture of matrix was generated before buckling. So URN 300 is not proper to use at the condition under high external pressue.

  • An analysis program to predict the behavior of a concrete filled steel tube column (CFT) was developed. It considered confining effect, material nonlinearity, strain hardening of steel, and initial axial load. With the developed program, axial load-bending moment interaction analyses, moment-lateral displacement relation analyses, and lateral load-lateral displacement relation analyses were performed. For the verification of the developed program, analysis results were compared with the test results from the other researches. The verified results showed that the developed program predicted the behavior of the CFT column with agreeable accuracy. And they showed that it is necessary to consider the confining effect for the reasonable analysis of the CFT column. A simple parametric study was performed and it chose the strength of unconfined concrete and the thickness of a steel tube as the major parameters affecting the behavior of the CFT column. The parametric analysis results showed that the CFT column had higher strength and smaller ductility by increasing the strength of concrete. But the CFT column showed higher strength and larger ductility by increasing the thickness of the steel tube.

  • A three-dimensional approximate computer-based method, YSPR (Yonsei Piled Raft), was developed for analysis of behavior of piled raft foundations. The raft was modeled as a flat shell element having 6 degrees of freedom at each node and the pile was modeled as a beam-column element. The behaviors of pile head and soil were controlled by using $6{\times}6$ stiffness matrix. To model the non-linear behavior, the soil-structure interaction between soil and pile was modeled by using nonlinear load-transfer curves (t-z, q-z and p-y curves). Comparison with previous model and FEM analysis showed that YSPR gave similar load-displacement behaviors. Comparison with field measurement also indicated that YSPR gave a reasonable result. It was concluded that YSPR could be effectively used in analysis and design of piled raft foundations.

  • In this study, it was investigated for dynamic nonlinear characteristics using dynamic data obtained by shaking table test. The design of Tuned Liquid Damper(TLD) has limitation to plan based on Tuned Mass Damper(TMD) analogy and linear wave theory. Also, while there are many studies regarding properties of TLD under harmonic load, there are not estimated for dynamic non-linear characteristics of TLD under the load that is not governed by particular frequency like a white noise. This paper investigated dynamic non-linear characteristics of TLD varied with load amplitude using a white noise and suggested equations that can estimate damping ratio, natural frequency ratio and effective mass ratio of TLD.

  • This research is a part of a research program to develope a new design method for reinforced concrete bridge columns under axial load and cyclic lateral load. A nonlinear analytical method is proposed to obtain moment-curvature relationship and lateral load-displacement relationship. Various analytical models that contribute seismic behavior of reinforced concrete bridge columns are adopted and modified by comparing quasi-static test results of reinforced concrete columns with spirals of circular hoops. The analysis adopts confined concrete model, longitudinal reinforcement test result of reinforced concrete columns with spirals or circular hoops. The analysis adopts confined concrete model, etc. The results obtained using the propose analytical method agree well with test results and give conservative estimations particularly for deformation capacity and ductility.

  • This research is devoted to study post-buckling analysis of functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) micro plate with cut out subjected to magnetic field and resting on elastic medium. The basic formulation of plate is based on first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and the material properties of FG-CNTRCs are presumed to be changed through the thickness direction, and are assumed based on rule of mixture; moreover, nonlocal Eringen's theory is applied to consider the size-dependent effect. It is considered that the system is embedded in elastic medium and subjected to longitudinal magnetic field. Energy approach, domain decomposition and Rayleigh-Ritz methods in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iterative technique are employed to trace the post-buckling paths of FG-CNTRC micro cut out plate. The influence of some important parameters such as small scale effect, cut out dimension, different types of FG distributions of CNTs, volume fraction of CNTs, aspect ratio of plate, magnitude of magnetic field, elastic medium and biaxial load on the post-buckling behavior of system are calculated. With respect to results, it is concluded that the aspect ratio and length of square cut out have negative effect on post-buckling response of micro composite plate. Furthermore, existence of CNTs in system causes improvement in the post-buckling behavior of plate and different distributions of CNTs in plate have diverse response. Meanwhile, nonlocal parameter and biaxial compression load on the plate has negative effect on post-buckling response. In addition, imposing magnetic field increases the post-buckling load of the microstructure.

  • Performance-based reliability analysis is a practical approach to investigate the seismic performance and stochastic nonlinear response of structures considering a random process. This is significant due to the uncertainties involved in every aspect of the analysis. Therefore, the present study aims to evaluate the performance-based reliability within a stochastic finite element (FE) framework for reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls that are considered as one of the most essential elements of structures. To accomplish this purpose, deterministic FE analyses are conducted for both squat and slender shear walls to validate numerical models through experimental results. The presented numerical analysis is performed by using the ABAQUS FE program. Afterwards, a random-effects investigation is carried out to consider the influence of different random variables on the lateral load-top displacement behavior of RC members. Using these results and through utilizing the Monte-Carlo simulation method, stochastic nonlinear analyses are also performed to generate random FE models based on input parameters and their probabilistic distributions. In order to evaluate the reliability of RC walls, failure probabilities and corresponding reliability indices are calculated at life safety and collapse prevention levels of performance as suggested by FEMA 356. Moreover, based on reliability indices, capacity reduction factors are determined subjected to shear for all specimens that are designed according to the ACI 318 Building Code. Obtained results show that the lateral load and the compressive strength of concrete have the highest effects on load-displacement responses compared to those of other random variables. It is also found that the probability of shear failure for the squat wall is slightly lower than that for slender walls. This implies that 𝛽 values are higher in a non-ductile mode of failure. Besides, the reliability of both squat and slender shear walls does not change significantly in the case of varying capacity reduction factors.

  • The response of pile foundations under lateral loads are usually analyzed using beam-on-nonlinear-Winkler-foundation (BNWF) model framework employing various forms of empirically derived p-y curves and p-multipliers. In practice, the p-y curve presented by the American Petroleum Institute (API) is most often utilized for piles in granular soils, although its shortcomings are recognized. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of the BNWF model and to quantify the error in the estimated pile response compared to a rigorous numerical model. BNWF analyses are performed using three sets of p-y curves to evaluate reliability of the procedure. The BNWF model outputs are compared with results of 3D nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis, which are validated via field load test measurements. The BNWF model using API p-y curve produces higher load-displacement curve and peak bending moment compared with the results of the FE model, because empirical p-y curve overestimates the stiffness and underestimates ultimate resistance up to a depth equivalent to four times the pile diameter. The BNWF model overestimates the peak bending moment by approximately 20-30% using both the API and Reese curves. The p-multipliers are revealed to be sensitive on the p-y curve used as input. These results highlight a need to develop updated p-y curves and p-multipliers for improved prediction of the pile response under lateral loading.

  • Generally existing structure analysis was applied to elastic analysis basically in practice. Considering the nonlinear material and the nonlinear geometric to be a more precise analysis, for this reason, The necessity for a structual analysis have been constantly required. Therefore, after optimization is performed, designed a simple model which is applied the principle of nonlinear in this study, a structural analysis of existing experienced users, have a aims at presenting theory and a method in order to perform anyone the analysis easily. In this study, the proposed model applied to die ribs, Regarding the shear load, less strain and stress was generated but strength was sufficient. The initial strain and stress was reconfigured to fit the size and shape, A hyperstudy in conjunction with Abaqus with nonlinear structural analysis, revealed an acceptable maximum and minimum range of stress and under the conditions of minimum strain, the plate made with a constant increment. In the experimental models, the plate thickness was given a power of 40 Newton, according to the thickness of the press die through an iterative process. When the stress and strain was applied to the die thickness, 7-8mm thickness could be obtained by optimizing.
