In this paper, the a static experiment of on two reinforced concrete (RC) frame sub-assemblages was conducted to evaluate the seismic behaviors of existing RC frames that were not designed to support a seismic load. The specimens were a one span and actual-sized. One of them had two columns with the same stiffness, but the other had two columns with different stiffness values. As Regarding the test results, lots of many cracks occurred on the surfaces of the columns and beam-column joints for the two specimens, but the cover concrete splitting hardly occurred was minimal until the test ends. In the case of the specimen with the same stiffness offor the two columns, the flexural collapse of the left-side column occurred. However, in the case of the specimen with different stiffness values for of the two columns, the beam-column joint finally collapsed, even though the shear strength of the joint was designed to be strong enough to support the lateral collapse load. The nonlinear Nonlinear static analysis of the two specimens was also conducted using the uniaxial spring model, and the analytical results successfully simulated the nonlinear behaviour of the specimens in accordance with the test results.
In this work, nonlinear control of a three-phase shunt active power filter (SAPF) has been studied and compared to classical control based on proportional integral regulator. The control strategy is based on the direct current method using sliding mode control (SMC), where the aim is to regulate the average voltage across the dc bus of the inverter. Details are given for the control algorithm; the controller is comprised of a current loop which utilizes a hysteresis controller to generate the gating signals for the switching devices, and a nonlinear controller based on SMC law which is different from classical laws based on error between reference and measured output voltage of the inverter. Sliding surface applied in this work contains the whole of state variables, in order to ensure full control of the system behavior in the presence of disturbances that affect the supply source, the load parameters or the reference value. The designed controller offers advantage that it can gives the improvement of dynamic and static performances in cases of large disturbances. A comparison of the effects of PI control and SMC on the APF response in steady stat, under line variations, load variations, and different component variations is performed.

In this paper, a nonlinear controller based on adaptive back-stepping method is proposed for high performance operation of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM). First, in order to improve the performance of speed tracking, a nonlinear back-stepping controller is designed. In addition, since it is difficult to achieve the high quality control performance without considering parameter variation, a parameter estimator is included to adapt to the variation of load torque in real time. Finally, for the efficiency of power consumption of the motor, controller is designed to operate motor with the minimum current for the required maximum torque. The proposed controller is tested through experiment with a 1-hp Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) for the angular velocity reference tracking performance and load torque volatility estimation, and to test the Maximum Torque per Ampere (MTPA) operation. The result verifies the efficacy of the proposed controller.

The method to form the space of the pneumatic structures by internal pressure is classified greatly as the dual type with the nlty type. The shape of the pneumatic structures consists of the curved surface under uniform tension not greatly to be deformed by the design load and stress must not be concentrated also. Therefore, In this study, we have done the structural analysis of the unity typed pneumatic structures by the NASS which is the program for nonlinear analysis. The analytic model is a rectangular pneumatic membrane structures which have four side fixed edges. And we have done the nonlinear incremental analysis considering the orthotropic material.

In general, a number of lifting lugs have been used in shipbuilding industry and the D-type lugs are mainly used. The aim of this paper is to increase the cycle of the use and to reduce the size of lifting lugs to introduce lightweight shackle. In this study, nonlinear elasto-plastic analysis has been performed to confirm the ultimate strength of lifting lugs. In order to evaluate the proper design-load distribution around lug eye, the contact force between lifting lug and shackle pin has been realized by gab element model. Gap element modeling and nonlinear analysis are carried out using the finite element program MSC/PATRAN & ABQUS. Additionally the ultimate strength tests were performed to verify the structural adequacy of newly designed lifting lug and to insure safety of it. The D-10, 15, 20 & 40 ton models which are mainly used in the block erection are selected in the strength test. According to the results of the analysis and strength test, the ultimate strength of the newly designed lifting lugs has been estimated to exceed 3 times of design working load.
The combination of spatial latticed structures (hereafter SLS) and flexible cables, the cable-stayed spatial latticed structures (hereafter CSLS) can cross longer span. According to variation principle, a novel geometric nonlinear formulation for 3-D bar elements considering large displacement and infinitesimal rotation increments with second-order precision is developed. The cable nonlinearity is investigated and it is taken that the secant modulus method can be considered as an exact method for a cable member. The tower column with which the cables link is regarded as a special kind of beam element, and, a new simplified stiffness formulation is presented. The computational strategies for the nonlinear dynamic response of structures are given, and the ultimate load carrying capacities and seismic responses are analyzed numerically. It is noted that, compared with corresponding spatial latticed shells, the cable-stayed spatial latticed shells have more strength and more stiffness, and that the verical seismic responses of both CSLS and CLS are remarkably greater than the horizontal ones. In addition, the computation shows that the stiffness of tower column influences the performance of CSLS to a certain extent and the improvement of structural strength and stiffness of CSLS is relevant not only to cables but also to tower columns.

In this paper, the efficiency of five Machine Learning (ML) methods consisting of Deep Learning (DL), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Decision Tree (DT), and Gradient Tree Booting (GTB) for regression and classification of the Ultimate Load Factor (ULF) of nonlinear inelastic steel frames is compared. For this purpose, a two-story, a six-story, and a twenty-story space frame are considered. An advanced nonlinear inelastic analysis is carried out for the steel frames to generate datasets for the training of the considered ML methods. In each dataset, the input variables are the geometric features of W-sections and the output variable is the ULF of the frame. The comparison between the five ML methods is made in terms of the mean-squared-error (MSE) for the regression models and the accuracy for the classification models, respectively. Moreover, the ULF distribution curve is calculated for each frame and the strength failure probability is estimated. It is found that the GTB method has the best efficiency in both regression and classification of ULF regardless of the number of training samples and the space frames considered.
The present study analyzed noise reduction and long/short-term components for discharge, TOC concentration, and TOC load data in order to understand the data characteristics better. For the purpose, wavelet transform which can reduce noise from raw data and has flexible resolution in time and frequency domain was applied and the theory of nonlinear dynamics was also used to determine the last decomposition level for wavelet transform. Wavelet function of 'db10' and the 7th level for the last decomposition of wavelet transform were applied for the all data in the present study. Also the results revealed that the energy ratios of approximation components with 187-hour periodicity decomposed from 7th level of wavelet transform were 94.71% (discharge), 99.00% (TOC concentration), and 93.84% (TOC load), respectively. In addition, the energy ratios of detail components showed the range between 1.00% and 6.17%, which were extremely small comparing to the energy ratios of approximation components, therefore, the first and second detail components might be considered as noise components included in the raw data.
There are two types of nonlinear analysis methods for building frameworks depending on the method of modeling the plastification of members including lumped plasticity and distributed plasticity. The lumped plasticity method assumes that plasticity is concentrated at a zero-length plastic hinge section at the ends of the elements. The distributed plasticity method discretizes the structural members into many line segments, and further subdivides the cross-section of each segment into a number of finite elements. When a reinforced concrete member experiences inelastic deformations, cracks tend to spread form the joint interface resulting in a curvature distribution. The program IDARC includes a spread plasticity formulation to capture the variation of the section flexibility, and combine them to determine the element stiffness matrix. In this formulation, the flexibility distribution in the structural elements is assumed to be the linear. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of linear flexibility distribution assumed in the spread inelasticity model. For this purpose, nonlinear analysis of two reinforced concrete frames is carried out and the linear flexibility models used in the elements are compared with the real ones. It is shown that the linear flexibility distribution is incorrect assumption in cases of significant gravity load effects and can be lead to incorrect nonlinear responses in some situations.
One of the most important design criteria in underground structure is to design lightweight protective layers to resist significant blast loads. Sandwich blast resistant panels are commonly used to protect underground structures. The front face of the sandwich panel is designed to resist the blast load and the core is designed to mitigate the blast energy from reaching the back panel. The design is to allow the sandwich panel to be repaired efficiently. Hence, the underground structure can be used under repeated blast loads. In this study, a novel sandwich panel, named RC panel - Helical springs- RC panel (RHR) sandwich panel, which consists of normal strength reinforced concrete (RC) panels at the front and the back and steel compression helical springs in the middle, is proposed. In this study, a detailed 3D nonlinear numerical analysis is proposed using the nonlinear finite element software, AUTODYN. The accuracy of the blast load and RHR Sandwich panel modelling are validated using available experimental results. The results show that the proposed finite element model can be used efficiently and effectively to simulate the nonlinear dynamic behaviour of the newly proposed RHR sandwich panels under different ranges of free air blast loads. Detailed parameter study is then conducted using the validated finite element model. The results show that the newly proposed RHR sandwich panel can be used as a reliable and effective lightweight protective layer for underground structures.
