A new control scheme s proposed for the control of reactive batch distillation (RBD) column. A nonlinear wave model captures the essential dynamic behavior of the RBD process. The proposed control scheme is based on both Generic Model Control(GNC) and nonlinear wave model. The control scheme uses a profile position of the column as a controlled variable. Ethanol esterification process using RBD is chosen as an example process. Tight control of the distillate purity is obtained with the use of the proposed control scheme.
The diesel Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) for vehicle applications is a complex nonlinear system. For the purpose of this paper presents a dynamic average model of the whole system in an entirely physical way, which accounts for the non-ideal behavior of the diode rectifier, the nonlinear phenomena of generator-rectifier set in an elegant way, and also the dynamics of the dc load and diesel engine. Simulation results show the accuracy of the model. Based on the average model, a simple PI control scheme is proposed for the multivariable system, which includes the steps of model linearization, separate PI controller design with robust tuning rules, stability verification of the overall system by considering it as an uncertain one. Finally it is tested on a detailed switching model and good performances are shown for both set-point following and disturbance rejection.
The purpose of this study is to optimize parameters of a contact model to obtain similar ground contact force of human walking. Dynamic walking simulation considering ground contact is performed to determine load specifications when developing walking assist robots. Large contact forces that are not observed in actual experimental data occur during the simulation at the initial contact (e.g., heel contact). The large contact force generates unrealistic large joint torques. A lower exoskeleton robot with no ankles is developed with the Matlab simscape and the nonlinear hyper volumetric contact model is applied. Parameters of the nonlinear hyper volumetric model were optimized using actual walking contact force data. As a result of optimization, it was possible to obtain a contact force pattern similar to actual walking by removing the large contact force generated during initial contact.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the static and dynamic stability-of the unmanned airship under development ; the target airship's over-all length of hull is 50m and the maximum diameter is 12.5m. For the analysis, the dynamic model of an airship was defined and both the nonlinear and linear dynamic equations of motion were derived. Two different configuration models (KA002Y and KA003Y) of the airship were used for the target model of the static stability analysis and the dynamic stability analysis. From the result of analyses, though the airship is unstable in static stability, dynamic characteristics of the airship can provide the stable dynamic stability. All of the results, airship models and dynamic flight equations will be an important basement and basic information for the next step of developing the automatic flight control system(AFCS) and the stability augmentation system(SAS) for the unmanned airship as well as for the stratospheric airship in the future.
The turbulent flow is of fundamental interest because the conservation equations for thermodynamics, mass and momentum are linked together. This turbulent flow consists of some coherent time- and space-organized vortical structures. Research has already shown that some dynamic systems and experimental models still cannot provide a good nonlinear analysis of turbulent time series. In the real turbulent flow, very complicated nonlinear behaviors, which are affected by many vague factors are present. In this paper, a kernel-based machine for fuzzy nonlinear regression analysis is proposed to predict the nonlinear time series of turbulent flows. In order to show the practicality and usefulness of this model, we present an example of predicting the near-wall turbulence time series as a verifiable model and compare with fuzzy piecewise regression. The results of practical applications show that the proposed method is appropriate and appears to be useful in nonlinear analysis and in fuzzy environments to predict the turbulence time series.

The nonlinear vibration of the thin perforated plate is analyzed in consideration of the V-shaped tension distribution and the effect of wire impact damping. The reduced order FEM model of the tension plate is obtained from dynamic condensation for the mass and stiffness matrices. Tension wire is modeled using the lumped parameter method to effectively describe its contact interactions with the plate. The nonlinear contact-impact model is composed of spring and damper elements, of which parameters are determined from the Hertzian contact theory and the restitution coefficient, respectively. From the evaluation of the computational accuracy and computation time for the deduced impact stiffness and damping coefficient, we determined proper values for the simulation works, accounting for the computational accuracy as well as the computational efficiency. Finally we discussed the results of nonlinear nitration analysis for variations of their design parameters.
Based on a two-degree of freedom vehicle model, this paper investigates ride comfort for a heavy off-road vehicle mounted a nonlinear hydropneumatic spring, which is influenced by nonlinear stiffness and damping characteristics of the hydropneumatic spring. Especially, the damping force is derived by applying H. Blasius formula in modeling process according to the real physical structure of the hydropneumatic spring, and the established model of nonlinear stiffness characteristics have been validated by experiments. Furthermore, the effects of parameter variations of the hydropneumatic spring, such as initial charge pressure and damping coefficient, on body acceleration, suspension deflection and dynamic tire deflection are also investigated.

In this study, vibration properties of seat and human body are analyzed through test and numerical analysis methods by taking into account the viscoelastic characteristics of polyurethane foam as seat material which is applied for vehicle. These viscoelastic characteristics which show nonlinear and quasi-static behavior are obtained by compression test. In addition, the viscous elastic property of polyurethane foam is modelled mathematically by using convolution integral and nonlinear stiffness model. In order to analyze the performance on ride comfort of seat, vertical vibration model is established by using dynamic model of seat and vertical vibration model of human body at ISO5982, and so the related motion equations are derived. A numerical analysis simulation is applied by using the nonlinear motion equation with Runge-Kutta integral method. The dynamic responses of seat and human body on the input of vibration acceleration measured at the floor of the railway vehicle are examined. The variation of the index value at ride comfort on seat design parameters is analyzed and the methodology on seat design is suggested.
The Disturbed State Concept (DSC) model, with simplified unloading/reloading formulation, is implemented in a nonlinear dynamic finite element program fur porous media named DSC_DYN2D. In this research, the DSC constitutive model is utilized using the HiSS model for relative intact (RI) part and the critical state model for the fully adjusted (FA) part in the material. The general formulation for implementation is developed. The cyclic loading tests from the field load test data on a pile segment were numerically simulated using the finite element program DSC_DYN2D and compared with field measurements and those from the previous analysis with the HiSS model. The DSC predictions show improved agreement with the field behavior of the pile compared to those from the HiSS model. Overall, the computer procedure with the DSC model allows improved and realistic simulation of the complex dynamic soil-structure interaction problems.

This paper presents an output feedback robust H$\infty$ control problem for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems, which can be represented by an fuzzy dynamic model. The nonlinear system is represented by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model, and the control design is carried out on the basis of the fuzzy model. Using a single quadratic Lyapunov function, the globally exponential stability and disturance attenuation of the closed-loop fuzzy control system are discussed. Sufficient conditions for the existence of robust H$\infty$ controllers are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). Constructive algorithm for design of robust H$\infty$ controller is also developed. The resulting controller is nonlinear and automatically tuned based on fuzzy operation.
